Let me start this off by saying I have been a big fan of Jacques for years and have been making his chocolate chip cookie recipe few years as well. I'm not a professional baker, just someone who loves to bake. That being said I do, for the most part, know what I'm doing. I make his cookies almost monthly and actually won a contest with that recipe! The cookies served in the store are nothing like the actual homemade version. Yes I know this isn't some small family run bakery making everything from scratch and fresh everyday and that it's a mass produced product. But even knowing that, I was not at all impressed with the cookies being sold. They were dry and overly sweet. The shop was cute, albeit a little oddly laid out. If you're looking for an average, nothing special, chocolate chip cookie, then sure, get it in the shop. But if you want a truly amazing cookie, make his recipe yourself and skip this place! They are worth the 2-3 day process!
The store is very big and has some seating as well. The chocolate is definitely on the fancier expensive side but great for gifts. They had lots of pre-packaged sets but you can also create your own box. Lots of NYC themed packaging as well. We loved all the different flavors. The dark chocolate was intense and smooth without being too bitter. Hard to believe it was 80%! One note: Gift cards purchased online cannot be used in the store! We found that out the hard way.
Get there early for fresh baked goods like croissants, as they sell out. Hot chocolate is rich and flavorful. Thick and creamy. Very comforting. Not too sweet, which was a nice surprise, since it's milk chocolate. Would return for this to try with a scoop of ice cream!
One of the best cookies I've had and I stumbled on it by accident: I'm a sucker and when I saw the candy canes, I knew I had to go in and get the cookie. Crispy edges, not too sweet, still had a good chew, full of candy cane pieces that didn't make my teeth hurt and so much rich chocolate. I am 100% going back. Service was sooo friendly.
I have visited the Grand Central and other locations before as I have loved these cookies since visiting Mr. Chocolate's second NYC location on Hudson St. Dumbo was the first location he opened. This is a large and well set up store with excellent staff and so many products available. We of course took away multiple cookies and some dark chocolate. I appreciate that it is explained where the chocolate is sourced from. The cookies were amazing and are definitely a favorite of mine!
First timers and we stumbled upon it literally 5min till close. Ran in to see what was available the lady was so kind I wish I had asked her name. She took her time explaining and we ended up with macarons and chocolate bark. Very excited to try them when we get back to our hotel but let me just say the HOT CHOCOLATE alone is worth a trip here. I will be back for his famous cookies and a signed cookbook. My kids were so excited to see his store in real life since we are all big NAILED IT! fans. 10000/10 make a point to stop here when in the area
I only tried the chocolate chip cookie but didn't think it was particularly good. The texture was hard but not crisp and the flavor was pretty standard for a chocolate chip cookie. Their other items might be better but I wouldn't recommend their cookie.
such decadent hot chocolate!! rich, thick, and a great value. there is some comfortable seating inside and the service was so friendly and excellent. if you're lucky, you may also find a staff member handing out some chocolate samples outside the store :)
This was a good experience. The chocolate chip cookie was good but was a little hard. If you dip it in the classic hot chocolate it is a great bite. The service was super friendly. The hot chocolate is very rich and tasty.
Best hot chocolate hard down. Just my luck, Jacques himself served me hot chocolate! Amazing! I was as struck! I see him on TV all the time! Love this place! Great service!
Food: 4/5 I've had the pleasure of trying there delicious chocolate cookies, hot chocolate and there caramel and chocolate covered popcorn. All which are Belgium dark and regular chocolate. And it's SO GOOD! My goodness. The chocolate taste so rich and fresh. Service: 5/5 Staff are friendly, attentive and greet you upon walking in which means a lot. Ambiance: 3/5 Nothing to fancy but they have a wide space for seating and to eat. There are an array of different chocolate variations to choose from. You'll have a ball. If in the area stop it and try them out.
Amazing! I love chocolate but am pretty picky... this place had incredibly good plain chocolate bars (I had the dark) and the two bon bons/ truffles I tried were delicious! I had the dark espresso and the gf dark almond crunch. Friendly staff as well. If you like chocolate I would stop here! Also it wasn't insanely priced!
I visited the grand central terminal location and had their frozen hot chocolate. It was rich and creamy, and tasted amazing. They put their handmade whipped cream which tasted just perfect (not too sweet) and I loved it. It was $6 and the amount was a lot. I definitely recommend this for chocolate lovers. I could taste the cacao and the chocolate was not too sweet which I loved.

Just a heads up to Jacque Torres or "Chef" (as whoever in charge makes his employees call him). Make sure you take care of your employees. Especially considering while working there, me and a few other staff members had to work with what/around you see in the picture. Multiple mice running behind and on the counter, having to cover up the Bon Bons because mice and rats jump on the counter overnight, roaches and flies all over store. And when we asked for help in rectifying the obvious rodent problem, we were told that "Chef" cannot afford to close the store for 1 or 2 days to fix the rodent issues. Please, if anyone reading this cares for PEOPLE, and the obvious health concerns that can arise from this. STOP SHOPPING HERE, AND ASK WHOEVER THE MANAGER IS TO DO WHATS NECESSARY read more

Superb, thick hot chocolate. Shoutout to Jonathan who always has AMAZING customer service and makes the best drinks!!! I recommend the hot chocolate snowball, which is hot chocolate with a scoop of gelato (try the cookies and cream!)... it's the best mix of thick warm chocolate and cold creaminess. Their cookies are also great - chewy and a little crispy (but more chewy), and the chocolate is great quality. I highly recommend this place! read more

Pleasantly surprised! I got the wicked hot chocolate. It was like drinking a chocolate bar but it wasn't too sweet. So rich and smooth and tasty. You can taste the quality. Since it's so rich in flavor a small was enough for me. read more
Jacques Torres Jacques Pepin Jacques Chirac Jacques Cousteau ...don't they all cook for a living? They don't?...Tant pis. Like many people, I became aware of Jacques Torres from the Food Network where he had his own show about...big surprise...making chocolate delicacies. The bigger surprise is that the man isn't 500 pounds from all the rich goodies I saw him make. Since I just happen to be in the DUMBO area, it seemed worthwhile to visit his flagship shop next to his factory. It's a tiny place made all the more tinier by the tourists queuing up for all the chocolate paraphernalia sold there from hot chocolate to ice cream sandwiches. Sure, it all looks sweetly appetizing, but excess is the hobgoblin of small minds and big bellies. Or so my long-ago Weight Watchers counselor told me. Prices are on the ka-ching side, but the selection is pretty vast, especially when you stare longingly in the glass display where all sorts of exotic flavors were presented within the chocolates...chai tea...red wine...succotash. No, not succotash. Perhaps you'll see Monsieur Pepin...I mean Torres...on the premises. It's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area, especially on a brisk fall day when you are wearing your French beret and talking like Maurice Chevalier. Regardless, you should jog back to Manhattan on the Brooklyn Bridge to work off the calories, don't you think? That's because self-indulgence is the hobgoblin of small minds and big bellies. I think that's what my long-ago Jenny Craig counselor told me. read more
This was such a cute little chocolate factory once. You could go to DUMBO, wander around the funky stores, people watch and then go watch chocolates being made. Then you could go in to the old crowded shop and enjoy the photos of the celebrities who had come in, some while filming in the area. The smell of chocolate was intoxicating and homey. Sometimes we would see wedding options being shot in and around the old warehouses. Such a special ambiance. Now there are swanky stores and lots of places to shop with lots of people around. Inside the chocolate shop you can buy chocolate and souvenirs but the factory has moved. Jacques Torres is now big business which is wonderful but sad for this little shop. It still has delicious chocolate but in a less cozy setting. I have always loved the Wicked Hot chocolate. Hot chocolate with a touch of spicy heat. Either my tastes have changed or the recipe has. Now I find it to have spices but less heat. I miss it. A creamy cocoa nevertheless and it goes well with the giant cookies. Progress?! read more

After walking across Brooklyn Bridge, the only thing I had planned to do was visit Jacques Torres' Chocolate Shop. The store in DUMBO is the place where it all started. You will find handmade chocolate treats, hot chocolate and ice cream sandwiches. They also have wonderful packaged chocolate gifts to take home, so I bought a few of these! Seeing it was a super hot day, it was a good excuse to order one of their frozen hot chocolates. Boy, oh boy, it was rich... but very good! I recommend ordering one of these and sitting in the nearby Empire Fulton Ferry Park to enjoy such treat, while taking in the Brooklyn Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge and city views. read more
After seeing Jacque Torres himself on the show Chopped, we had to stop in one of his shops when we were in NY. So weeks before our trip to NY, we bookmarked this place, planning to visit the location in Manhattan. However, since we were in the area for Grimaldi's pizza, we felt the need to go to the shop. We ordered ice cream since it was so hot and humid out. It was a little pricey, but that's to be expected. My daughter had one of the most expensive ice cream she's ever eaten but she enjoyed it. Next to the ice cream shop is his chocolate shop and we stopped in to pick up some little pieces of chocolates to enjoy in the park. The chocolates were a little pricey, but again, we expected it. It was the experience we were paying for. I got the little piece of Saffron chocolate and it was just phenomenal, just a nice reminder that chocolate doesn't have to mix with just other sweets, it can be salty, savory, bitter, and even umami as well. read more

Good ice cream right by the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge park! There's a wide selection of flavors, both dairy and non dairy. The chocolate ice cream was the star of the show, with a very deep and rich chocolate flavor. (Nothing short of what I would expect from a chocolate shop!) The strawberry was also very well made, tasting very fresh and not artificial at all, unlike many other strawberry ice creams I've tried. Overall, a good experience. read more

One of my favorite go to places in DUMBO, especially with all of the great dessert places nearby. I will definitely swear by their hot chocolate, it is so rich and thick with a unique mixture of added dark chocolate. Definitely a must have for any chocolate lovers. And make sure to get it with ice cream in the hot chocolate (I recommend cookies and cream)! The combination of cold ice cream melting within the hot chocolate is soooo good. Especially with The melted gooey chocolate chip cookies mixed inside . The cookies, cold chocolate, milk shake, and ice cream are all great as well. Definitely worth it to try a little bit of everything whenever you're make multiple visits to the area! Customer service is great too. Look out for a guy named Jonathan because he makes the hot chocolate new for every customer and he makes it with the perfect amount of thickness. He makes it a pleasure to go there every time. read more

Chocolately heaven for a non-chocolate lover. Meh?! I got myself a mocha frappe which was seriously pumped with chocolate jizz. Whoa...it was WAY too chocolate for my taste but for a chocolate lover I'm sure that person could've finished the drink for me. It tasted like a strong shot of espresso with a big ole bucket of very rich chocolate. It was too hot that fine day in NYC for me to try their famous hot chocolate. Even though I saw a few people there ordering it. Why I'm rating this place so high? The delicious warm, huge chocolate chip cookie I also had put me in a straight buttery, sugar shock! Sooo bomb! It's not a huge thick cookie like Levain. Think Chicago deep dish vs NY thin slice. It was a thinly sliced type of cookie. Had the right amount of crunch on the outside and ooey gooey center. Great location too! Right by the Brooklyn Bridge Park. read more
I remember watching Chef Jacques Torres on the Food Network years ago, so I was really excited to check this place out in Brooklyn! He creates handmade artisan chocolates that include bon bons, hot chocolate, cookies, and ice cream, you can see the actual kitchen inside. This location was just so cute with the floral arrangements, the rustic wooden floors, the large selection of chocolate gift boxes and candy bars, and a few tables and some stools at the counter to enjoy your beverage/chocolate purchase. I tried out a 'Wicked' hot chocolate that contained cayenne pepper - had a kick, and the beverage was thick and creamy. I also purchased an 18-piece chocolate box in which you can choose a variety of flavors - these were so pretty and wonderfully decorated. A cute place to stop by if you're in the DUMBO area. +'Wicked' hot chocolate read more

Fantastic hot chocolate here. Everyone that visits dumbo should pick up a cup of hot chocolate and walk on the bridge. It's one of the best I've tried. It's dense and not overly sweet. They have hot chocolate, spicy hot chocolate, mocha, and other coffee drinks. They also have many different flavors of ice cream, chocolate pastries, cake slices and of course variety of chocolate souveniors to take home. The place is pretty big with table sittings so it's good to relax. Surpringsly, the price seems pretty reasonable to me. I'd love to try the chocolate infused cake slices or brownie or pick up some chocolate shortbread cookies next time. It's a must stop place for me whenever I'm in dumbo. read more

OMG, I'm so lucky! My friend brought back some Tuxedo Peeps as an "omiyage" from NY and I must say these Chirp'N'Dales are awesome. I was gonna eat only one and give away the rest, but I'm thinking I can't share this. LoL. I must remember to visit this store someday when I go back to NY! read more
The original Jacques Torres store in Dumbo (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nVIAmfM55P6zoKzaUKdGgw?select=j_N-seg5NqKjQ-8YMPVPSw) adjacent to the JT chocolate factory is a pretty small little walk-in. On the 95 degree day we visited the lady behind the counter let us know about the $1.50 insulated and cooled bag (2 small reusable cold packs) which was free with $25 purchase. I ordered a "Wicked" iced hot chocolate while the g/f perused daddy's day gifts for her old man (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nVIAmfM55P6zoKzaUKdGgw?select=PpNAAJf_Vy9RUmUwNUzqGA). She ended up with a chocolate tie (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nVIAmfM55P6zoKzaUKdGgw?select=oNzNUT7rx5J7gOpFzMx1rQ) and I ended up with a not that spicy somewhat gritty drink. It's thick and chocolatey, to be sure, but the texture was not the thing of legends I saw on "Best Thing I Ever Ate" (damn you Giada DeLaurentiis!!) Could be better hot (non-iced) in the Winter-time. I hope the chocolate tie is smoother. We'll find out this coming weekend :-O read more

The stars are for the ice cream selection. They finally revised their flavors. This time we got peach ice cream. They're good. As for the service I would give them ZERO stars, I've been here so many times that I could say they need to re educate their staff on how to provide good service to all people. That includes locals and tourists alike. read more

Oh my! Jacques Torres Chocolate, is literally a chocolate lover's dream. It's gorgeous and so well organized. The chocolatier gave me options of beautifully boxed BonBon's, truffles, pastries, chocolate bark...really ANYTHING CHOCOLATE! Of course I had to get the Bonbon's assortment, there was no way I could choose just one kind. Hand picked ( w/ a glove), and perfectly placed in the 12 count box ($27.99) I didn't even realize that the folded insert had all the descriptions, until there were only 4 left. I plan on trying more of his specialties! Perfect place to buy friends/family delicious gifts. read more
This chocolate shop in Dumbo has the nicest people working here! They were very friendly and gave honest recommendations about what to order. Best of all they offered unlimited samples of their cookies, all of which were really good. We ordered a mudslide cookie (chocolate in all ingredients basically) and a hot chocolate then ate inside. At that point they even offered us an additional delicious chocolate chip cookie which was served warm. It was a great way to wind down with dessert on a cold and rainy night. Thank you people of Jacques Torres for your warm welcome into Brooklyn! read more

If you love a chocolate heavy cookie then Jacques Torres Chocolate has the perfect cookie for you. There's more chocolate than cookie in their signature Chocolate Chip Cookie and it's delicious. The cookie contains decadent dark chocolate. So if you're looking for milk chocolate then this cookie isn't it, but don't fret because they have a cookie for that, which I have yet to try. The cookie is giant in portion and is fairly pricey around $3.75 but is more than worth it if you have a sweet tooth and enjoy fine, high quality ingredients. If you're in Dumbo, check out this famed establishment. read more

Seriously, the BEST Chocolate Chip Cookies you'll ever have. Ask them to heat it up for you and thank me later. These CCC are a game changer, once you've tried these, no other CCC comes close. The amount of time and work that goes into these cookies definitely pay off (Google it, it takes over 24 hours to make them!). These CCC are larger and flatter, so the texture is more even. (I'm not a cookie dough person, so this is perfect for me.) It's buttery goodness and you can taste the superior quality of the chocolate that's used. Their Hot Chocolate is liquid gold. Rich and decadent, it's perfect in every way. To the management: Please train your employees to provide the correct information. I purchased 6 CCC to bring back to Miami and asked how long they were good for. The person assisting me said 3 weeks - as is. As a baker, I found that information to be incorrect and asked multiple times, just to make sure. Staff should be well informed that the cookies stay fresh to 2-3 days and should be frozen thereafter. read more
Went to Jacques Torres Ice Cream after Grimaldi's pizza, & before Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. It's a small shop with tons of chocolate things for sale everywhere. I asked for a sample of a dark chocolate piece & wasn't impressed. Did get a warm Wicked Chocolate Cookie for $3. It was very rich & huge. Ate a few bites & took the rest to the hotel to eat the next few days. read more
My best friend is staying in Brooklyn for work, and I knew when I came to visit that Jacques Torres was a must visit! This place did not disappoint. We got a box of chocolate and the pieces were beautiful and delicious, exactly what you'd want from a box of chocolates. I especially enjoyed the fresh coconut and the wicked chocolate. I really wanted to try the hot chocolate but it was a fairly warm day so I didn't feel like drinking something hot. Service was very friendly and prompt. The little shop was crazy busy, but we got in an out pretty quick. I want to back already and try more chocolate laden goodies. read more

Absolute chocolate HEAVEN. It's small and packed but well worth it. We went on a gorgeous sunday afternoon after having a late lunch down the st and man...you walk in and just want to buy everything. If you're a chocoholic that is! I beelined for the good stuff in back....delicious, rich, smooth chocolate pieces beautifully made...set out for you to feast your eyes upon and sell themselves. I really meant to just get myself a sampling (6 pieces?!?) but instead after seeing so much to choose from, i went for the 25 piece box. And yes, it's worth the $33. Favorites are the fresh coconut (bf's fave), grand cru (how can you NOT like chocolate with wine), wicked fun (nice heat) and the champagne kiss (mmm). But all the others are yummylicious too..love potion #9, ginger, menage a trois (helloooo), golden espresso (im a coffee addict), 80% (it's all about the cocoa), mystery (havent tried yet, still in the box staring at me). Just remember, dont chew...you have to savor these. Let them melt and you'll taste all of the flavors soo much more. We'll be back, b/c this time i'd like to try the cookies, ice cream and the wicked hot chocolate (we were too stuffed to try it this time). read more

So went here looking for some of their famous White Chai Chocolate drink and they were all out so I went with the classic Hot Chocolate instead which was way too sweet. I would say 90% chocolate and 10% milk which is not the way I like my hot chocolate but none the less it wasn't bad just very rich so it's more of a dessert drink. The atmosphere of the cafe is nice and they have some comfortable seating area for you to relax in. They also offer a variety of other coffee drinks and chocolates which taste delicious! I would recommend this place for some sweet tooth indulgences. read more
