Hot Chocolate. $12 + tax. Mix of dark and milk. Very rich/delicious so worth it even for that price
Glenn C.

I was here at this gorgeous-looking chocolatier very recently for a chocolate walking tour with Shorewalkers, along with Läderach, Lint (as it was on the way,) Li-Lac, and 'Royce. There were a lot of people here checking out the very chocolates, going to the Cacao Bar in back, or doing what I was doing: ordering a hot chocolate from the front. The front area is essentially an abridged version of said sit-down spot in back, where you can get your chocolate to go. The prices are $8 for a small (4 oz) or $12 for a large (8 oz,) which at first glance seems crazy expensive compared to most hot chocolates, but there is a catch compared to other chocolate places. This is because the hot chocolate, unlike most American places, is made with pure chocolate rather than cacao powder, so it contains much more chocolate. Unfortunately, the front only has a couple of chocolate choices compared to the back. There is white chocolate (nope,) 38% milk chocolate with hazelnut, 62% dark chocolate (which is presumably their Aztec,) and 62% spiced dark chocolate with chipotle, ancho chili, cinnamon, and nutmeg. I ordered a large and asked the friendly guy if I could get a mix of dark and milk, which apparently isn't typically allowed, but he said it was fine, which was appreciated. He asked whether it should be half-and-half, and I was okay with that. A few moments later, I got my hot chocolate, which was thick and piping hot. The milk chocolate was slightly sweet with a hint of hazelnut, while the dark chocolate was slightly bitter. This made it a pleasant mixture, and I think I would have had difficulty drinking the large milk chocolate in particular, as it would have gotten too sweet. I also tried a bit of the spicy chocolate, which was unique with a slight burn that grows over time, and I'm not sure if I would want a large portion of it. I could complain about the price point, as the hot chocolate was $12 + tax, but this was seriously high quality, with the only similar comparison being the NYC location of Chocolat Michel Cluizel, which has been closed for a while. I'll go back to this location or to the others closer to where I live and try something else next time I'm in the mood for fancy chocolate. In principle, I wish it wasn't worth it, but it was.

The Cacao Bar at MarieBelle in SoHo is a "chocolate oasis" where diners can savor indulgent chocolate desserts and rich cups of hot chocolate. We visited on a snowy day to tuck into a rich cup of hot chocolate. We ordered the MarieBelle special which was a large drink with your choice of either macrons or scones. Erik went with the iced Aztec chocolate with rose lychee and salted caramel macrons while Alex went with the Jefferson's Favorite dark hot chocolate chocolate with scones. Both were exceptionally delicious. MarieBelle is a perfect venue for our new favorite hot chocolate in NYC and makes for an elegant afternoon indulging in chocolate

There's a small cafe at the back where you can get a hot chocolate and dessert. It's very cozy and great for the winter. All the chocolates in the store were beautiful!

Absolutely delicious chocolates. Dark, rich, creamy. Fun stencils. My lovely spouse spent a week in Manhattan. I stayed home in California. Had to babysit our three Labrador retrievers. No availability from my house sitter and one of my dogs has been a failure at two boarding facilities. I asked for no souvenirs from NYC. But the morning after her return she gifted me this box of assorted ganaches. I'm savoring them. After a week I've eaten just 4 out of 16 because I don't want to end the pleasure. A glass of pinot noir and one of these chocolates is a moment in heaven.

Randomly stumbled on this cute chocolate shop because of the sign outside! I was getting hangry and needed sugar fast and I was hypnotized by the frozen ice chocolate ad. I got the dark chocolate, however when I was given my order it was literally just chocolate in the glass cup. Just very boring and unappetizing. I felt like i was bamboozled. I even had to ask for whip cream. So they gave it to me in a cup and I added it in myself. However it was bomb so highly recommended.

This review is for the Bucketlisters wine pairing event. We purchased tickets to the wine pairing event MarieBelle was having with Bucketlisters - $100 for two people. The event page says the event is 4pm-6pm. It does not mention time slots or that you can show up at any time. We showed up promptly at 4pm. The tiny dining room was filled up with people who were not doing the wine tasting event but just walk ins who wanted to have food/hot chocolate. Other guests for the event showed up at the same time. The server said that we would have to wait for a table to open up. He said that the event "doesn't start at 4pm, it starts any time between 4pm-6pm" which was not what the event page says (see attached event page screenshot) and honestly just seemed like an excuse. I also want to note 3 weeks before the event I called MarieBelle up and asked if I needed to reserve a table for the event (as the screenshot says to do this) and I was assured I didn't need to reserve a table and could just show up. The staff was not really taking note of who showed up first, but luckily the other guests here for the event were all kind enough to keep track ourselves (which we shouldn't have to do). The first guests did not enter the dining room for the wine pairing until about 4:30pm. My friend and I were not seated until 4:45pm for the wine pairing with groups after us still waiting for a seat. Staff handed out samples of hot chocolate to try and make up for the poor experience with waiting. The wine pairing itself was good. The wines selected, the chocolates, the cheese and fruit were all enjoyable. But the mood had already been soured by the poor time management of this event. In total, it was only about 45 minutes to go through the tasting. We waited to get in the same amount of time as the tasting itself. This is the second Bucketlisters event I've been to that has been poorly managed and I won't go to another. If MarieBelle knows that wine pairings are starting at 4pm, why would you seat other parties close to 4pm without giving them a time limit to be finished by 4pm? It just seems greedy and shows a lack of regard for those who have booked the event in advance. Gratuity is not included with your event reservation and they make sure to note that before you leave. There's one super tiny bathroom available for use in the restaurant if needed. I don't think I'd come back to MarieBelle even though the food and chocolates were good because of the lack of customer service shown with this event.

My review is a bit mixed but I'm willing to try them again. The good: The chocolates are amazing. The staff in the store were friendly. The bad: My friend and I had tickets for an event by NY BucketListers that was advertised as taking place from 4-6pm. We waiting till 4:45 to be seated. I'm not sure if the issue was in MarieBelle, BucketListers or both but it was disorganized and the cafe staff seemed frustrated. They didn't have a good system of seating people once tables opened up. They were going to seat my friend and I ahead of another party that had been waiting for over an hour for their table for the same event until we asked them to seat them first because they were waiting longer. The event itself was nice but the disorganization tainted the experience. We had planned our day around the reservation time so we had to rush to get to our next commitments on time.

The plate, saucers, tea, cups, teaspoons are all super cute and elegant, and make you feel even more special.

What an amazing treat! I have done high tea in London and in other places in the US and this is one of the top three experiences. Our server has been at this location for over 14 years and is there to please and serve you. We started with a shot of hot chocolate followed by a split pea soup. We pickedout our tea, the chocolate rose and the lychee. We then got our tower of tea sandwiches and sweets along with scones that had two types of jam and clotted cream. It is such a cute place, but I definitely recommend reservations as it is small. They sell out for special occasions, super early. This would be a great date, girlfriend gathering, Baby shower experience, mother, daughter outing. Enjoy!!

Stopped by Mariebelle after shopping around SoHo. We did not have a reservation but we were able to snag a spot at the cafe. We waited around 15mins for a table for 2 but I do making a reservation. While we waited we bought the hazelnut truffles which we really enjoyed. We also purchased two other chocolates that were on display in the flavor of Earl Grey and mint. The staff were all very nice they gave us samples of the chocolate with our purchase. While we were waiting for our table in the cafe we were offered hot chocolate shots. We got the cold white hot chocolate shots which was surprisingly tasty. In the cafe, we got the espresso, hot chocolate, and the milk, hot chocolate both with whipped cream on the side. We also got the Madeline and the macaroons. Everything was delicious!! The cafe was very cute and everything was giving Christmas/ holiday vibes. Definitely recommend stopping by to grab a hot chocolate!

If heaven was made of chocolate, it would be fashioned like MarieBelle. Booked a table for tea for three on a weekend celebrating life (and electricity) in New York City. So lucky to be able to get a cozy table when the intimate cafe opened at 11 AM. (Tip: They are not so booked early on Friday.) Welcomed by our fabulous host and chocolate sommelier for the experience, Johnny the Troublemaker. What a gem! So kind and so thoughtful. Gave us some fantastic recommendations and adjusted the menu to cater to our every wish. Like a magical chocolate genie. Get the MarieBelle special. A large hot or cold nonalcoholic beverage with your choice of two scones, two ganaches, two madeleines or two macarons. Has gone up from $11 to $15 since last year, but still such a great choice. Definitely get this one if you are not having the afternoon tea tower. Take my advice. You'll thank me later. Started with large Tiffany blue cups of Aztec hot chocolate so thick that you could eat/drink it with your spoon. The best seller for a reason. Decadently delicious and worth the hype. The oat and traditional scones with clotted cream and orange marmalade were so good. Reminded me of high tea when I worked in Europe many birthdays ago. The little glass dishes for the marmalade and clotted cream were so cute. The tea sandwiches were so adorable and so unique. Salmon and dill cream cheese. Beet hummus with cucumber. Endive salad with walnuts and blue cheese. Butternut squash with balsamic vinaigrette. Gruyere toasted with no ham. The ganaches were a nice bonus as was the Happy Birthday to "mom and dad" mini chocolate lava cake. Make a wish!! Truly an unexpected treat. Make a reservation if you are going on the weekend. Ask for Johnny the Troublemaker. He will treat you like a VIP. Thanks also to my fabulous Houston (via Queens) CM Jandito for always guiding me to hidden treasures that really make it Sweet to be Elite!!

MarieBelle offers a lovely setting to indulge in a decadent chocolate drink or an afternoon tea. While the initial service and the price of the chocolates might not be for everyone, the friendly service at the bar and the exceptional drinks make it a worthwhile stop for a sweet treat in the city. During my first visit, the initial interaction at the front counter was a bit on the cooler side and felt somewhat unwelcoming. On the other hand, the service at the bar area towards the back was a definite highlight. The server there was friendly and attentive, creating a much more lively environment. They also helped me choose the best chocolates to purchase based on my taste. I only wish I remembered the name to give them proper credit! MarieBelle's chocolates are visually stunning. They are little works of art! They have an amazing flavor selection and the taste is enjoyable, but I felt that the price reflects their exquisite presentation and workmanship more than a significant difference in flavor compared to other quality chocolates. However, the chocolate drinks are where MarieBelle truly shines for me. These were rich, indulgent, and absolutely delicious - a real treat and a definite reason to visit. If the weather is too warm for hot chocolate... get the iced version! The Iced White Chocolate with Tahitian vanilla is my favorite! The cafe section itself is small but beautifully decorated, offering a charming and cozy ambiance.

2025 After dining elsewhere on a recent weekday afternoon, we enjoyed chocolate decadence with some fruit of the vine here recently. Johnny, MarieBelle's resident "trouble-maker" served us in a space of grandeur and elegance of an era gone by. I loved the Spicy Hot Chocolate accompanied by a glass of Rioja. We shared the Molten Chocolate Lava Cake - rich and warm, as well as the warm crusty Gouttes de Chocolat. The entire experience was lifted in a wonderful way by Johnny, who gave us tastes of different chocolate crafts and beverages. When we finished, of course we bought more treats for friends at home!

My first afternoon tea in NYC and it was as good as the ones in London ! The set menu proposes unlimited tea or coffee, a soup of a day, an assortment of sandwiches, cakes and chocolates of course ! It worths the price ($70 per person) I ordered the mochachino with dark chocolate. It was amazing ! I will love to go again and try more delicious pastries !

They're also across the street from a flagship Ghirardelli store, which they also own, if you aren't aware. In general, I find Lindt too sweet, but that is also coming from someone who is a dark chocolate lover. For this location specifically, the staff here are friendly and give samples, which is a plus. Anyway, if you're wondering why you'd want to stop here instead of just going to the literal CVS around the corner which sells their products, you can customize stuff better here, and there are many more options. Along with the standard truffles they are famous for, there are flavors available only at this location, as well as seasonal ones. Some current ones include shortbread, made with milk chocolate, as well as a snickerdoodle, which I didn't realize was made with white chocolate, or else I wouldn't have purchased that one (it was still tasty,) and others. The truffles are around 62¢ post-tax for a single one, so it's a little cheap and tasty treat. Outside of truffles, there are bars, some fancier chocolates, and bark, among many other things. Of course, there's a Dubai option like every other chocolatier in case you want to purchase a cheapo version here. Obviously, the chocolates in general are not as high-quality as Läderach, Li-Lac, and other spots, but they are at very different price points, so that's to be expected. The latter spots are more artisanal, while this is a step up from Hershey's "chalk-olate" and other cheaper brands. If you're looking to buy a gift without paying an exorbitant price but still want a step up from Hershey's or similar places, I would recommend going here.

Then my wife got their fruited sour Peach Berry Punch that definitely had a punch of pink guava and peach but the berry was more subtle. Two great beers with plenty of other styles available too.
