I visited Läderach in New York, and this was hands down one of the coolest chocolate shops I've ever been to. All of their chocolate is shipped directly from Switzerland, which makes the experience feel extra special. The staff was incredibly sweet and welcoming they let us sample the milk chocolate with hazelnut, and wow... it was so smooth and delicious. Not overly sweet at all just perfectly balanced. The store itself was very spacious, clean, and beautifully laid out. We had the chance to try a few different chocolates, but we couldn't resist going back for more of the milk chocolate with hazelnut. On top of that, the attendant at the front surprised us with even more samples, which was such a thoughtful touch. I'll definitely be back! read more

This is my favorite chocolate store. I tried it for the first time when I was in Frankfurt, Germany. I am glad it's available in NYC. Upon entering there's a staff who gave out samples. At the back there's a display of truffles including liquor infused kinds. Boxes of chocolate are all around the wall. At the middle you can pick individually wrapped chocolate and you pay by the weight. The main attraction is the chocolate Statue of Liberty. I am having a hard time making my selections from slabs of several kinds of chocolate. My favorites are Dubai, strawberry, hazelnut, and coffee. I was actually on my way to another chocolate store in Grand Central to buy some chocolate as a gift to some co-workers I was going to visit the following week. As I walked by, the chocolate caught my eye and when I entered, the young lady with the samples of hazelnut chocolate bark caught my attention and my tastebuds....it was so good! So that detour derailed my plans to visit the other store and I loaded up here. I bought several boxes of truffles which were well received by my colleagues. Make no mistake, this place is pricey but if you want to treat yourself, you won't be disappointed. I have a trip to Geneva next month so I won't bring Swiss chocolates there, but anywhere else I would go, this would be a great place to pick up a nice present. read more

They were giving out roasted hazelnut milk chocolate bars and I was sold. The nice man graciously gave me 3 samples because I couldn't resist. I ended up buying that along with the Dubai chocolate. Ok this is my absolute fav chocolatier. We have one in Tampa but not this size and not with all of these offerings. The Statue of Liberty is made out of all chocolate! Amazing. They have samples when you walk in and you can also request to sample the chocolate they have behind the counter that you can purchase by size. They even have matcha flavored for a limited time. I really liked how they had the chocolate in little individual packages that you could fill in a bag for variety. I got almost 2 of each for like $25. Staff was welcoming and friendly talking to us about the flavors and answering hubs questions about the chocolate and the Liberty statue. read more

Side note- if you're curious how it's pronounced, as Allemanic (i.e., Swiss) German is a rather difficult language, it's lay-der-rah with the h at the end being a ch sound like in the word loch. Also, the price point of their bark is presumably a bit higher, as they give samples here, or else it would be more comparable to Li-Lac or other fancy chocolatiers. Would recommend the Florentine most of all. Anyway, initially based in Glarus/Ennenda, one of the German cantons of Switzerland, Läderach is a fancy chocolate brand known for its FrischSchoggi, its name for chocolate bark. I usually go to their Midtown East location on Lex near Bloomingdale's, but there is also one near Times Square if you're there for whatever reason. This is by far their largest location and the nicest looking, and I presume it is being used as their flagship. Outside of their bark, which has a whole lot of flavors including seasonal ones, they also sell truffles, pralines, and a few other things. The bark is, I believe, close to $60 a pound, which of course puts them in the premium price range along with MarieBelle, Li-Lac, and a few others. Apparently, the Dubai Chocolate is a bit more expensive on their website, but I don't remember seeing a price difference at the Midtown location. All information aside, the best thing here/my recommendation, is their Florentine, available in dark or milk chocolate. The florentine is made from flaked (or, in other words, sliced) almonds along with sugar, butter, and cream, which is then turned into a slab and added as a crunchy and delicious topping, almost reminiscent of toffee but less sweet. I personally prefer it with their excellent dark chocolate, as the florentine adds a little bit of sweetness. If you don't want to get it this way, they also sell tiny pricey and tasty pralines made with the same florentine along with "snacking florentine," which is the same on top of a circular chocolate, but with some candied fruits added. Outside of this, the more standard hazelnut is good, and I tried a nut and berry based one that was tasty among others. The place is a bit too expensive to shop often, but it makes a nice treat and gift. I will stop in here again (and their other locations) and ignore my wallet. read more

Who doesn't love fresh creamy chocolate? The staff here is friendly and very generous with the samples. Laderach understands how to hook you in! Once you savor the sample, you simply have to try and buy more It's pricey but if you can get to Switzerland, buy it! My fav is the milk chocolate almond follower by the raspberry blackberry. Hubby's favorite is the milk chocolate cornflake but honestly, they all are delicious and so fresh. Say goodbye to Hershey bars! read more

Came by for some chocolates the other day and it was a fantastic experience! Laderach is a Swiss chocolatier and I saw them on my way to Neuhaus at Grand Central! The store was huge and they had plenty of staff on hand passing out samples. I got the sense that business was rather mediocre as the vast majority of the chocolate boxes were expiring within 30 days... I finally found some dark chocoalte truffles that had at least a few months prior to expiration! Staff wore gloves when handling chocolate too! read more

If you have not, it is a high quality milk chocolate with....some almonds in it. This is some of the best chocolate on the planet I love it. I also got a package of their colorful sticks and those were not too good. They tasted pretty artificial. This store did not have the friendliest employees nor did they offer any assistance. Visiting Läderach as a chocolate fiend is quite the experience! You are greeted with a generous chocolate sample upon walking in (hazelnut milk chocolate during my last visits). The available chocolate barks all have enticing flavors - most of which you can sample, except for the Dubai chocolate! My favorites were the matcha dark/white combo, raspberry blackberry, and of course the Dubai chocolate. Everything else I sampled was also delicious. They sell bark variety bags in different sizes and these make wonderful gifts for chocolate lovers! Plus bars and truffles. Wonderful chocolate! Rich, decadent, delightful. The service is great as well! I have a nut allergy and the staff were all so kind and patient with checking the ingredients of the chocolate truffles I was interested in to ensure that they were safe for me. As for the actual chocolate, I loved all the flavors I tried. I also tried their coconut mousse which was interesting. The filling was more similar to marshmallow rather than a mousse. I liked the baileys truffle, but didn't get a super strong baileys flavor. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the chocolate and will definitely be returning. read more

The chocolates are delicious and clearly high quality. Unfortunately, the customer service did not meet the same standard. I placed a corporate order in excess of $2,000 and was assured it would be delivered before Christmas. That commitment was not met, and the order could not be fulfilled as promised. As a result, my corporate gifting plans were significantly impacted. If the level of customer service matched the quality of the product, this would easily be a five-star experience. read more

I knew we should have kept walking along 42nd street right to our cross over street instead of taking 5th over to our other cross over street. The barks in the displays are quite appealing to the eye. We walked in and the staff greeted with a sample of the milk chocolate with caramelized hazelnuts. The milk chocolate is good, but I favor the more bitter and slightly healthier dark chocolate options. 3 dark chocolate hazelnut and almond barks late, after trying them out. We did try out the strawberry white chocolate, they also have raspberry and white chocolate, but I have never been a fan of white chocolate much. I would have liked a dark chocolate with raspberry, but no such option. read more

Our very favorite chocolatier. We are obsessed with the milk chocolate with almonds. A splurge purchase.

We stopped by here to get their vegan chocolate stack which we had tried years ago. We picked up the same bag and an extra mini slab. The mini slab was charged $48 and the big stack a $34. On asking at the register we were told "this is the price". We stepped out and noticed that the receipt marked the mini slab as almost a pound in weight. We went back and asked again and were brushed off again by another representative. We finally caught someone who presented as a manager and she acknowledged the error. We were charged $48 instead of $5. On asking what happened we were told "oh this happens often". Well, train your staff to be better at math and common sense instead of overcharging customers 10 times over. PLEASE EVERYONE MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS. read more

Randomly stopped by at Laderach and had no intention of getting anything at all until I saw the truffles! Lol At first the boxed truffles looked so tempting but I brushed it off saying I dont really need anything right now..just browsing. While looking further I noticed the place was very clean and organized, the chocolates displayed were fresh and obviously of good quality but another observation was how the staff were just so wonderful! Not just one staff but all! You could tell from their interactions with the customers they were talking to that they were pleasant so it actually makes you comfortable checking the place out, taking your time and actually trying a few samples - it took the pressure off and made the visit enjoyable. With that positive feeling I ended up just trying the truffles on display. I was surprised they would actually allow you to sample them! I think hubster and I actually tried 3 truffles (we shared of course) and ended up buying a box! Lol We had such a wonderful experience especially when Paul assisted us and made recommendations. The Pralines Pave that he had us try was a favorite! Surprisingly this cubed coco-powdered truffle was the only vegan truffle there but it was perfectly sweet and delectable! A must have for sure! Absolutely love Läderach chocolate. We haven't had their chocolate since visiting Basel Switzerland a number of years ago. Such an upscale, clean and immaculate chocolate store. The service we received was right in line with expectations. If you have any chocolate questions, they know their chocolate. ;-) We walked out with dark pralines, classic truffles with and without alcohol. All delicious and luxurious. I had a very bad experience here. I asked the woman with curly hair near the pink chocolate if I could try a sample, and she told me they don't offer samples. Shortly after, I saw a white customer ask another worker for the exact same chocolate, and they were given a sample without any problem. The staff treated white customers with friendliness, but with me (Asian) they were rude and dismissive. It felt clearly racist and discriminatory. No customer should be treated differently based on their race. Management needs to address this immediately. read more

Ok chocolate lovers in NYC near Bloomingdales.... Its worth the quick stop out front ... hoping for no ticket... This is a Swiss style chocolate shop. They have delicious milk chocolate and a large variety of truffles.. by the pound in a glass case, and out front wrapped. Pre-boxed candies, square and Valentine's Day hearts. When reading ingredients on the boxed truffles saw palm oil and passed.. but that was not their main or favorite offering. Best to Start with the basics.... some freshly made chocolate nut bark by the pound.. its NYS real estate price appropriately.. Hahaha . Also the have wrapped plain milk or dark chocolate bars. In the front of the store their is a large amount of rounded pink taller sized marshmallowy truffles.. sold by the piece and a fun thing to try. Way to go!! read more

Better location than the one at 7th Ave in terms of allure and appearance. It's also much bigger and better laid out. The staff here was mostly helpful but there were a couple of gals here that projected coldness and aloofness one would find in someone that didn't want to work at the place but had to due to bills, bills, bills. Love the young lady in glasses that helped me with her friendliness at the chocolate counter and then later at the register. So glad there are more than one location but also far away because I would not be able to resist this chocolate heaven! read more

Laderach is the best. Pricy, but the best. I've been to the Lake Grove, NY store plenty, but when I passed their flagship store in the city, I knew I had to stop in. We were greeted with samples of chocolate hazelnut. I declined, but my husband loved. I ordered a slab of chocolate blackberry (my favorite) and my husband ordered a slab of chocolate caramel (his favorite). After passing the slab table, we made our way to the back to gaze at the mini chocolate factory in the back where a nice gentlemen explained the chef's process of making chocolate. Then, we made our way over to the chocolate truffle section to taste another free sample of chocolate. The cocoa dusted chocolate cubes were mouthwatering - I had to buy! We also bought some other chocolate that I never noticed the Lake Grove store having (chocolate champagne bites). Something did leave a bad taste in my mouth: the workers were joking and making fun of the typical Laderach customer. They walked into the store saying it "smells like chocolate in a chocolate store" and asked if "they had any samples". Not a big deal, but I feel like that can be done after hours when the customers are in the store and probably trying free samples of chocolate. read more

I love Laderach. It's the closest thing to European chocolate I have access to if I'm not in France or able to visit Switzerland. It's truly expensive here, however, and I always leave this store $30-$100 less in my wallet. The famous chocolate is usually the strawberry chocolate, and I always opt for the macadamia or almonds milk chocolate as well as the white chocolate with mixed nuts. There has been some better places for chocolate in France at the same or slightly cheaper price point, so Laderach gets a well deserved 4 star from me. I return every other month! read more
