    Blueberry and lemon Pancakes

While I've heard so many positive reviews about Jacob's Pickles, I was left a little disappointed. I ordered off their seasonal menu and got the blueberry and lemon pancakes. We all agreed that K "won" since everyone else's meal was subpar. The biscuits and gravy were soggy and cold. The other meal had tough chicken and undercooked potatoes. Our server was so sweet but didn't check on us often despite the restaraunt being fairly empty. I did hear they recently relocated- and this new location is much more spacious compared to the last!

Jacob's Pickles is a restaurant specializing in Southern (comfort food) now located on West 93 Street & Columbus Avenue. This place is almost always full, busy & loud (in a good way!). It's dimly lit, spacious, with lots of seating, decor is casual & the staff is friendly, attentive, quick & always busy. The assortment of pickles are great, including the Fried Chicken Biscuit Sandwiches, Fried Green Tomatoes & a variety of Beers & Cocktails. It's a good place for groups & families & the atmosphere is always festive. I really enjoy going there with my family for lunch & dinner.

Met some ladies here for a late lunch on a Friday. Our server was super cute and informative. I ordered the BBQ Smothered Pepper Jack Chicken. The chicken was crisp and good. I didn't care for the biscuit on the plate (it was dry) or the cheese grits (they were cold). We had a dessert that was very large but not so great. You know I usually love my dessert. I'm glad I got a chance to visit.

I come back to Jacob's Pickles again an again and there are many reasons why. The first: the staff has been incredible every time: so kind, attentive, and welcoming, despite the fact that it's a pretty big restaurant and has been decently busy every time I'm there. Secondly, it's beautiful. I love the classy, modern, warm aesthetic of both the inside and outside dining spaces. Third, the FOOD (duh). The portions here are huge so you're almost always getting two meals in one. This time, we ordered some fried pickles (a classic-$15) with some sriracha mayo (yumm). It's the perfect crunchy, salty bite. Then, I got the original chicken sandwich ($22) which just falls apart in the best way. The chicken was juicy and tender and I left in a food coma.

When I say I am a long time pickle lover and have grown up in the South to know good southern cooking. I want to Marry whoever Jacob is because this is my next brunch staple on New York. The pickles were delicious the biscuits in gravy is better than your grandma's. Don't get me started also on the root beer. My one complaint is that the root beer is $5 a glass but that's okay because it is worth it and I don't need to drink a gallon of root beer. Got in with barely any wait time on a Sunday no less. I would make a reservation next time I go because it was very packed. If you like good food or love pickles this is the place to go. Can't wait to go back

Wow this place was delicious. I had been meaning to try this place for a while and I can see why it is so popular. Firstly, our server started off by letting us know that the portions were big but the were so much bigger than I imagined (definitely not a complaint!) All the food was great! The deviled eggs were delicious, I enjoyed all of the different types of pickles which all had different flavors and were nice and crunchy. The Special Biscuit French Toast was Oreo and very light and not too sweet so the maple syrup was able to take it to another level. The Hot Honey Chicken & Toast had a nice light spice to it so it was very easy to eat. It also went great with the pickle sampler that we started off with. We walked out with a bunch of leftovers and unfortunately not enough room to have dessert. The service was excellent and very helpful. I will definitely be back to try out more items with a bigger party and try dessert as well!

What's left to say about Jacob's Pickles that hasn't already been said? We've been eating here since the beginning, but this was our first time at its new, expansive location on Columbus. The space was previously home to Gabriella's, a good tequila bar + fair Tex-Mex restaurant, and has been renovated with elegant, clean lines and mirrors that bring outside light deep into the restaurant. The time seems appropriate for a re-review. By way of background, I was born and raised in the south. Biscuits and gravy, fried chicken, chicken and waffles, cornbread, grits, banana pudding and/or Jello "salads" made their appearance at just about every get together. It's a cuisine I know and love. Jacob's Pickle serves good to decent versions of these southern standards. The fried chicken, which seems to make a showing in half the dishes on the menu, is thickly breaded, well brined, and tender. It's not far short of what one would find at Charles Pan Fried Chicken, a place I find standard-setting for fried chicken in NYC. Too often, though, the chicken isn't really allowed to take center stage, but is drowned in hot honey butter or gravy. Don't get me wrong: chicken with gravy is a wondrous thing. But if you're going to go to the trouble of frying that thickly breaded chicken fresh, do it the justice of leaving it crisp. In my world, chicken with gravy is for church picnics, large format brunches, and other get togethers where the chicken has to be pre-fried and left to sit for a l'il while. Everything is more oily than it has to be, which believe it or not is not always a hallmark of southern cooking. Case in point: grits. I swoon over grits when they're made well. JP's are very smooth (not stone ground, which I admit is my preference), made with a lot of butter and possibly another fat that isn't butter, as well. There's a touch of cheese. But oily as it is, there's something flat, something lacking in umami, about the preparation that I can't quite put a finger on. Favorite versions from home include heavy cream, sometimes black pepper, and sometimes broth. The mouthfeel of JP's grits is somehow more oily, but less rich, than those. While baja salmon, a new-to-me menu item, was well seasoned, moist, and fresh, it was also excessively oleaginous. The dish almost seemed to have been finished with butter and oil just as some Indian dishes are finished with a tadka or some Sichuan dishes with chili oil, which... didn't really work, here. The spinach underneath the salmon was unpleasantly hypersaturated with oil. Quick rundown of some other menu items: - The turkey leg is fall-off-the-bone tender, served with consistently undersalted mashed potatoes, stuffing, and a wee bit of cranberry sauce. I don't think it's a menu strength, but my convives sometimes order it as a slightly healthier option. - Biscuits are good enough that I wouldn't feel embarrassed about feeding these to a southerner. - Salads are large and well composed. - Cocktails, including the Bloody BLT at our most recent meal, are well made and by NYC's ridiculous standards, well priced. The beer list is both well curated are well priced. - Pickles are legitimately great. They're fun to eat and I think made in house, perfectly acidic, briny and in some cases spicy. I recently brought a selection of these for a pickle-loving buddy in Maine. Portion sizes are, as others have noted, large by NYC standards, but fairly normal by southern standards. If it's too much food, just bring a box or ask for one for leftovers. We didn't love some of the wait staff we encountered at our most recent meal. (Some seemed unfriendly and exasperated at a baseline level.) But the staffing pool is enormous and we've had lovely hostesses and servers in the past, so perhaps we just drew a short straw this time. It's a wonderful space. There are enough good things going for Jacob's Pickles -- not least its proximity to home -- that I'm sure we'll be back.

This was my first time visiting Jacob's Pickles. I was very impressed with the experience. I had the Vodka Lemonade for my drink and I ordered the Original Smash Burger with French Fries for my entree. Everything was well prepared and tasted great. I placed an order to go. I got the deviled eggs and street corn. Both were very good! I would definitely visit this restaurant again. I enjoyed everything I ate and drank. The service was great and the restaurant is very nice.

Jacob pickles kles has always been a great place in the UWS, vibes and music was always on point. Love the fried chicken and biscuits from here. Their fried pickles were delicious. The spinach and artichoke dip was not up to par this time I went, the spinach tasted a bit old and can definitely tell it was frozen or left in the fridge too long. Unfortunately, this time zi did get food poisoning, I do not think it was from the dip but maybe from unclean glassware as there was a funky taste to my cup and water. Our server was very friendly and helpful, and definitely patient since we had a kid with us. Overall a good experience and new place is very pretty too!

"Top 5 smash burger in the city?" Went craving BBQ - either brisket or the BBQ Ribs. Unfortunately the brisket couldn't cut with the fat & ribs were unavailable :(( Went with the BBQ Double smash burger Was also happy hour so I got a few $12 drinks also @ the bar. I'm thinking top 5 smash burgers in the city.

Was spending a day with my two girlfriends, when they decided on eating at Jacob's Pickles. They ate there already, and I am surprised I never have since my dad lives only three blocks away from it. I suggested making a reservation, and good thing we did. The place was crowded for a 3pm on a Saturday. We were sat at a table near the windows on the little extension part of the restaurant. I liked that the tables were spaced out, not on top of one another like in other places. The space was really elegantly decorated. We ordered the Fried Pickles ($15) for the table. I ordered a Jam Jar Cocktail ($15) and the Duke Burger ($26). My friends ordered the Original Chicken Sandwich ($22), and Buffalo Mac&Cheese ($23). The food was amazing... like really really amazing. I can't believe I've never been there before, but it will definitely be my go to when I visit my dad.

Jacob's Pickles Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Jacob's Pickles

I love all of the food there. Exactly what kind of pickles are 'Special sours"? Can they be bought…

I'm not sure what they are. They just might be sours. Their pickles are delicious but I don't think they can be bought on line. Why not check their website?

Are the meatballs beef or are there other meats in them as well?

Ah man I actually don't know. I would assume they are beef

    Do the biscuits contain lard?

    No, they don't.

Are the banana pudding pancakes a permanent addition to the menu? Please say yes! 😂

I think I wrote for the wrong pickle store. The one I was writing about is in Clinton,nj. Sorry

What are the chances of scoring a table for 4 at noon on a friday?

High - they are not too busy during the day

Do they have a Happy Hour?

    Do you have bottomless mimosas?

Hi Anna I'm pretty sure they do not offer that. It's by the drink

    Can my dog join us?

Yes, they have covered, heated outdoor seating that's very nice and your dog is definitely welcome. I saw other dogs in there during my visit.

Is the brunch menu only for weekends? Do you serve food in the morning on weekdays? Where's the non-dinner menu?

I'm 99% sure it is everyday

I have a picky child, is there a kids menu or will see have to be creative with the regular dinner menu?

There is no kids menu. I recommend sharing an item from the menu as the portions are large enough to share.

Do they have heaters for outdoor dining?

    Yes, they do!!! (:

    Is Jacobs pickles dog friendly?

They have outdoor seating, that would be your best bet. Inside it is pretty cramped and not much room for pets.

    What time does brunch end?

    4 PM!

    What are the vegan options?

Most of their pickles, a few of the starters like fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, okra & chiles, and a few of the sides like house fries, house salad, side of fruit.

Is there even one single vegan option? EDIT: besides pickles

All the sides are vegan except for the Collards & Black Eye Peas because that's cooked with pork shoulder; and the biscuits. I'm not sure what the Fried Pickles and the Fried Green Tomatoes are fried in though.

Are the mashed potatoes gluten free?! (Or can be made GF without gravy?)

Hi Ariel, thanks for reaching out! Our mashed potatoes can be made gluten free without the gravy. Hope you’ll be able to join us soon!

    Do they deliver?

    No!

Is brunch still served on weekdays?

    Yes

Can i make reservations for 2 people?

Thanks for your interest in joining us! Although we do not accept reservations for parties less than 6, we do reserve the majority of our dining room for walk in guests. You will receive an estimated wait time when you place your name on the… Read more

    Are there any vegetarian options?

Yes. Although it's overall meat heavy menu, for brunch there is plenty of veggie omelettes, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, all available. Dinner, however would be much more disappointing for a vegetarian as there are very few options.

We visited with a party of 7 at 9pm on a Friday which just so happened to be their first night doing a burlesque show. What a fun watch! I was, however, wondering the whole time if the people outside could see. Is that allowed?? Even though we did have a resy, it still took a hot minute to get our table (whole party does have to be present before you're seated, but even then it took a while). I will say it seems like the staff is overstretched. Service was slow and so by the time we got most of our food, it was unfortunately a little too cool. Additionally, one member of my party ordered their vodka pasta, which besides being almost flavorless and cold, there was also a random potato in there (?). I wasn't too impressed with their garlic & parm bread, there could've been more garlic and it would have benefitted from them cutting it in half and adding more butter in the middle. The honey butter was good though, but that's because they plop it on top so you can control how much or how little you'd like. I do think they have a pretty decent Caesar salad. The dressing didn't scream homemade (which I didn't like) but it was overall a respectable offering. The steak frites was perfectly cooked to medium rare for me and the fries were delicious and plentiful (I didn't finish them). Like I mentioned earlier, because everything took so long to come out, it was a little cooler than I would've preferred, but I was happy with my choice. I would've loved to try their chocolate cake, but I was pretty full and the speed of service had left a bad taste in my mouth. I wouldn't completely disqualify this place, but I would recommend trying to find a less busier time to visit.

We asked for more sugar cane because we wanted it! (So good) HOWEVER, skip both and order the rum punch!! BABYYYYYYY it was great!!! We ended up ordering it and my cousin had TWO. We ordered chicken bites and they were delicious with and without the sauce!! It was "child certified" by our little cousin. We ordered fries and asked for the tamarind / ketchup. Loved it! The Trini corn soup was devoured with barely any evidence soup was in the bowl! The jerk chicken comes out on its own as an entree. The sides are al a cart. It did not need sides as the portion was nice! The crab fried rice was delicious as was the curry vegetable fried rice. The beef lo mein was delicious. The beef was tender and not too spicy . Because it was going so well, we ordered cake: a carrot slice, and a coconut slice. The carrot cake we like better than the coconut cake. Both had icing we all loved. The carrot cake was a little different from any I have had, but it was good. The coconut cake was cold and I suspect it was the reason it was on the dry side. It had flavor just not as moist as we would expect. So listen, this is a two restaurant experience. In the morning there is a different menu. We came after 5pm. Time for a stomach reset!…read more This restaurant is not for those who are sensitive to flavor and spice. If salt and pepper are the only two spices you can handle, this is not the restaurant, rather not the cuisine, for you. Thai food is based on a multitude of factors. Colors, variety, and spice. What I got here reflects all of that, even if my pictures show a large shade of brown. My first item is the Kao Soi Ped, a coconut curry noodle soup with duck and shallots. I was incredibly afraid to eat the whole thing because coconut curry is a natural laxative. However, the dry noodles and crispy (and rather tasty) duck probably saved me from potential embarrassment. The dish evolved from a chow mein into almost like a duck ramen, which actually made it fun to eat despite the insane flavor bomb it packed. My go-to at any Thai restaurant is a Drunken Noodle, better known as a Pad Kee Mao. It carries quite a punch to the mouth in flavor. There is also plenty of variance on the plate with ample noodles and chicken. The amount of vegetables to protein to noodle is appropriately proportionate to each other. Not one piece of this dish is out of place. The spice also countered the richness of the curry and to my surprise, I finished the whole thing. I never go to a Thai restaurant without ordering a Thai Iced Tea, and this one does it as well as one can make it. My advice is to order it and save it for later, when the heat and flavors need some temperance from taking over your stomach, throat, and later, perhaps your bowels. For Upper West Side standards, this is par for the course in terms of price and value. It is also close by the 1 train when it comes to convenience, but keep in mind the kitchen closes for a bit as the restaurant shifts from lunch mode to dinner mode. Good thing the restaurant is not far from a few distractions to keep you entertained if you want to dine here but do not live in the neighborhood. Or you could just plan your trip accordingly like any normal person and stop in after 4:30 pm if you want to come here for dinner. Enjoy the experience.

We last dined at Haven on Marathon Sunday and there were several large groups there, some who seemed to be newbies, but everyone seemed to be having a fine time. Highly recommend, especially when you're looking for a change of pace.

Service -5/5 - Attentive service and our sever was very helpful in deciding which dishes to get Food: Haven Burger - 3.5/5 - it's supposed to be a double smashed patty burger but it ends up tasting like a normal burger. Smashed patty should be.. smashed with a crispy exterior and a juicy interior. Meat was underseasoned and the dressing was a bit too much Crispy Tuna - 3.5/5, the rice portion is almost like a hashbrown consistency. Didn't feel like it was enough crispy as I would have expected Jamaican jerk mussels - 3.5/5, anything jerk should have a strong vibrant flavor and I'm not sure what muted the heat you normally get from Scotch Bonnet peppers. Some of the mussels were overcooked and shriveled. Nothing about the dish really screamed Jamaican style flavoring unfortunately General Tso Chicken Lollipops - 5/5 great cook on the chicken and great flavor for these Overall, pretty good experience, and the food for me was good but not quite great

After walking around New York all day in the snow it was time to choose a place for dinner. I chose…read moreMexican food. The food is pretty authentic with the waiters and staff able to speak Spanish. I wanted fajitas but the closest thing I found on the menu was Alambres. A grilled mixture of meat, vegetables. and melted cheese that comes with corn or flower tortillas. This plate was delicious and the corn tortillas were made fresh. The guacamole appetizer was also tasty. For dessert I ordered the flan and it is some of the best flan I have ever tasted. You must save room for it! Do not bypass this place if you're craving Mexican and on this side of New York.

Showed up on a gorgeous Sunday with friends. Inside was empty (and hot), but we saw a table outside wrapping up. Spoke to the host about sitting there and he said sure. We sat at the bar to have a drink while we waited. He returned a few minutes later to tell us her informed by the older woman working there (not Nina based on pics from their website) we couldn't sit outside if we're just drinking. We explained we wanted to eat, but for now while waiting we'd have drinks. And then we sat there. Waiting. 15 minutes went by and we finally were able to order drinks waiting for the table to be cleaned. We saw a party of 5 enter and speak to the woman about having our table. We said to the man we're waiting on that table and he said yes its yours no need to worry. Next thing we know the woman sat the other party at the table we waited 22 minutes for. We pointed this out to the man. He was silent and didn't know what to say. I got up and went outside to the woman and explained we'd been waiting 22 minutes for that table and she needed to move them and explain they were sat in error. At first I could see she realized her mistake, then she said she would get her manager, then she said they actually were here before us. I said no they were not, we've been here all this time and they just arrived. She kept saying they were here first but they were not. I walked away from her done with this stupid conversation. We told them we were leaving and the man said "sorry". Nina - if you read this you need to train your staff to do better. The restaurant seemed understaffed and the two people working there are not communicating and seem like they do not know what they are doing. We ended up going down the street to Polanco Social where we were sat outside immediately, had amazing service, great food, and ended up chatting with the kind owner who bought us dessert on the house!
