Staying at the Kahala Resort we were going to round to the North shore and wanted eats on the way. Zippy's is an option but we tried the cute, clean and small Jack's. Heard about the "biscuit" muffin corn bread thing. It was unique and tasty. Hash was great only complaint, more would have been better. Simple, clean, cheap and unique. $28 for both of us. If I were to name my perfect weekend, it would include sleeping in on a Sunday and waking up to a delicious Jack's breakfast. Jack's is the epitome of comfort food for my family! My "usual" is homemade corned beef hash, hash brown, scrambled egg, and (of course) their famous grilled biscuit! Everything is always delicious, every time. The homemade corned beef hash has the perfect "crust" on the outside, and it's just so yummy! The hash brown is golden brown with the perfect crunchy top. And the grilled biscuit... it's just on a level of it's own! Fluffy and light inside, cooked to perfection on the outside. My favorite part is the muffin top area. Make sure you have it with their special whipped honey butter! My family also loves the vegetarian omelette, pancakes, Portuguese sausage, and Thai chicken. Definitely not low-fat, healthy breakfast but stick to your ribs type breakfast/lunch fare. I ordered the Combo B which comes with hamburg steak patty with gravy and grilled onions, 2 eggs, rice, and biscuit or toast. I was surprised that it came with the biscuit since the biscuit itself is quite a hearty starch. The biscuit is really good. Buttery, soft, has that melt in your mouth texture. I wish it was served with honey or some sort of jam but it does comes with whipped butter. The loco moco was damn good. The meat was a little tough but very flavorful and the gravy... oooooh weeee the gravy. Love the texture (not too thick, not too watery but just right) and that combined with the perfectly cooked over easy eggs. Perfection. We just happened to see this restaurant after we had gone to Aina Haina Chop Suey and thought it would be interesting to try it. So we headed over early in the morning since we weren't sure if it was going to be crowded. First of all, I admire this place for its honesty in eschewing any sort of pretense that it is anything but simply a place to eat breakfast and go on about your day. It lacks even a hole-in-the-wall charm or homey-ness. And I am perfectly fine with that. Service is very quick and good. We ordered the mushroom and cheese omelette and the vegetable omelette, both with their "signature" Jack's Biscuit. So exactly what is Jack's Biscuit? It is an odd hybrid of a buttermilk biscuit and a cupcake. It has the color and flavor of a biscuit but the shape and texture of a cupcake...not a muffin, which is quite dense. It is light, fluffy and springy like a cupcake. I did like it but it was as if my brain couldn't quite process the conflicting information it was getting. As for the omelettes, they were good. The interesting thing is that they mix in the ingredients into the eggs rather than put the ingredients in the middle and fold the egg over it. And the veggie omelette had shredded cabbage. Odd, and I'm still not quite sure how I feel about that. Along with the biscuit, this place confounds me, which I quite like. Oh, and it also comes with hash browns, which were crispy and not greasy at all. Now one thing to note is that they do not seem to salt their food, or only very lightly. And me, I likes me salt. So there was a whole lot of shaking going on on my side of the table. But this is neither good nor bad. It's all personal taste. Breakfast partner is not a salt-a-holic so this was fine. Another thing I like about this place is that there is a lot of parking and is very wheelchair/walker-friendly because there is a lot of space between tables. This is important for me since my mom uses a walker and so many places have the tables jammed so closely together, she has to navigate them like she's hiking a slot canyon. So thumbs up for this. And yet another thing I like about this place are the portions and the prices. Wait, those are two things. No wonder that sentence sounds weird. Anway, portions are reasonable, not gigantic. And prices are reasonable, not gigantic. Tired of gigantic portions with gigantic prices. Food is 3 stars. But because there are so many things I like about this place, I say 4. People looking for trendy, mind-blowing food, move along. Save your superlatives for another place. But me? I'll definitely be back. read more

This little restaurant is quite the surprise. There always seems to be a line when I want to have breakfast here. I like that the tables are the same, but seem to be just thrown into the restaurant, it makes it seem like a family living room rather than a formal restaurant. Best food served in this restaurant for me are their biscuits. They are not small biscuits, and always are crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The pancakes are substantial - but still fluffy. Their corned beef hash is also yummy!!! Service here is prompt and efficient. I ordered the Combo 4 which included an egg (cooked to your choice), corned beef hash and a YUMMY biscuit served with AMAZINGLY tasty honey butter. The texture of the biscuit is the perfect consistency, and is not dry at all. The flavor pairs wonderfully with the honey butter. The fried rice that is pictured in Combo C was ok. It could have used a little more flavor. The portions are not extremely big, so if you are looking for a huge meal I would recommend sharing between friends, and ordering more than one plate. the wait time to sit is not long at all. Okay, so my friend is the kind of guy that really takes care of himself. He works out 3-4 times a week and generally watches what he eats. All of this really works well for him and it shows, he's in great shape. I, on the other hand, am just the opposite, I'm decently active but don't really watch what I eat, and unfortunately that shows too. I got the "Jack's Special Suggestion" aka Breakfast special "C". For $6.75 plus tax/tip you get a biscuit, 1 scoop of rice, 2 eggs and choice of meat. I got my eggs cooked over easy with corned beef hash. The food came out super fast, they automatically gave me ketchup :) and I was out in 15 minutes! The eggs and corned beef hash were perfect. I would def suggest eating the biscuit first when it is hot. Why not 5 stars you ask? The water tasted a little funny. I am a huge fan of good-tasting water. I know it sounds snobby, but I hate it when there's that little hint of detergent (?).
