I ordered a bbq plate to be delivered. It was a large pile of two different kinds of meat and they only give you one tiny container of bbq sauce. Not nearly enough. A large chunk of the meat was just a big slab of outer charred fat that should have been carved off for disposal and instead they included it on my plate. The brisket that was actual meat was tough. The mac and cheese was generic, watery and flavorless (no better than box max and cheese) If you are expecting good, home-made penne pasta Mac, with crispy bread crumbs, melty cheese and rich flavor your will be extremely disappointed. I was curious if Seattle had any good BBQ and I think I found it. I came here with a party of 8 (they do reservations) and our table was ready right away. We ordered pork ribs (they have beef ribs on Tuesday only), and brisket with a bunch of sides such as mac and cheese, collard greens, and coleslaw. They brought out two kinds of bbq sauce: mild and spicy. Boy, the spicy one is a real killer. It is definitely hot. The mac and cheese is my favorite side. The brisket was slightly dry however the ribs were on point, cooked to perfection. The meat pulled from the bone so easily and it was so moist! I would reccomend getting that. The ribs and brisket looked great as well as the Mac and cheese. Once I tried the ribs I was let down as they were way tougher than I like, I had to work hard to get the meat off. I redeeming factor was that the taste was very good with only the dry rub on them. I great Smokey flavor. It was a good thing they were flavourful as their BBQ sauce was pretty bland in my opinion. The brisket was juicy with very good flavor, by competitive standards it didn't tear apart however the flavor was a redeeming factor, it didn't need any sauce to be very flavourful. Probably the most disappointing thing was the Mac and cheese with was good, I just always look for great in a Mac and cheese. Holy BBQ Batman!! They call it Texas-Style BBQ, but I call it the best darn BBQ I have had in years, if not ever!!!!. If that is not enough then the award-cladded wall when you walk inside should tell you this is a special place. I have been a big BBQ fan since I lived in the South and this place really impressed me. The brisket was absolutely incredible; no wonder Jack was called the King of Brisket in 2015. The crust on the brisket is amazing, thick and flavorful, the inside was very tender and juicy with outstanding taste and just the right amount of smoke, which comes from their two 25 foot smokers out back. Ribs were just as impressive as the brisket, not overly fatty and a perfect flavor and smoke balance. Thankfully nothing was covered in sauce, yeah the bbq sauce comes on the side, but I only touched it to try it. All the sides were great and the hushpuppies are an definite must! A nice beer list with a full bar just adds to the great food. You got to try it to believe it, that is all I can say. Came to Jack's BBQ for Mother's Day brunch this year and prior to that, I held my courthouse wedding reception here two years ago! And you know what? The texas-style BBQ still tastes just as good as I remember it. For brunch, most of our table ordered the brisket and then....more brisket. It was full of flavor and we ordered it moist mind you. It was so juicy and tender, I didn't even have to use the bbq sauce. I also decided to try something different and ordered the chicken enchilada which was great! The chicken was still moist and the chile sauce was fantastic. All the sides we ordered tasted great; my potatoes were nice and crispy and my brother said he grits tasted amazing. My dad really enjoyed the beef bacon, said it was one of the best things he's ever ate, haha! Brunch is a new thing at Jack's and we are all better for it. The owner came up to our table to see how we were enjoying meal and let us know that they are going to soon future a Jack BBQ style eggs benedict! I won't put any spoilers in here except to say that it sounded amazing and I will definitely be coming back to try that. My mom also orders food to go from here regularly and she usually gets the ribs, hushpuppies, brisket, brisket sandwiches, potato salad and several slices of pecan pie. Another day of supporting small businesses during the COVID-19 outbreak. So weird because I'm dining out more now than before the outbreak since I'm getting sick and tired of cooking. Ha! I placed my order on the website to be ready for pickup ASAP. I ordered the spicy sauce chicken sandwich and the two meat (brisket and ribs) plate and three sides - potato salad, mac n cheese and Texas caviar for two people. The sides were all excellent, tasted fresh and flavorful however, I thought the portion sizes for ribs and brisket were tiny. You basically get two ribs and two strips of brisket. Maybe this isn't supposed to be shared? The meats tasted good and the spicy sauce was an added bonus. I'd skip the chicken sandwich next time though. I've been to a huge amount of bbq joints from pecan lodge in Dallas, Franklins bbq in Austin and basically everywhere I travel I always try to find a bbq joint, just for the sake of eating bbq because meat is my life. The last time I came here is about 2016 summer and I went here when I was a rookie and didn't know that much about bbq in general and in specific. Last time i came here the lean brisket is tough but the ribs is amazing and might be my top 5 ribs i've ever tasted in my life. But that 2016 summer visit left me kind of disappointed, maybe I don't really like the food or maybe I haven't appreciate the art of Texas bbq. I'm writing a review on this because I have just recently went here which is about 9 hours prior of writing this review. And this day is amazing I ordered the alacarte of "1 pound of moist brisket, half rack ribs, 2 links and sides of macaroni & cheese and potato salad". These selection is enough for 3 people or maybe more than enough. The highlight is the brisket because back in summer 2016 I ordered the lean brisket but now I ordered the moist and it doesn't disappoint because the brisket is really moist as it looks like it just literally came off the smoker covered with oil, as the brisket is perfect temperature and the smoke ring is well done. The ribs never disappoints. The links are not bad. But from this trip 9 hours ago I would say that I would be coming back and become a regular. read more

Not bad for a BBQ place. I've travelled through the south and Midwest and Jack's is pretty good. Their portions are hearty and their service is great (At least our server was awesome. I think her name was Erin). I ordered the pulled pork and my wife ordered the ribs. The pulled pork was moist and well seasoned as well as the ribs. The corn on the cob was my favorite! The potato salad was ok but the mac and cheese was really good. The ambiance was good. Minus the guy sitting at the next table who wants everyone to hear his conversation with his friend, the atmosphere was upbeat and friendly. There were plenty of seating and large tables to accommodate groups. The parking lot may be a little small to handle all the cars if the place was full. Bookmarked this place for the next time we're in the area. Three star for the place and four star for service! I consider myself a Texas Hill Country BBQ junkie. Jack's BBQ is a unicorn: a great BBQ spot outside of the "motherland" of central Texas. I was traveling and had heard of the joint and had to check it out. So much so that I had to bail on a free conference meal, Uber across Seattle, and solo into the place. And, I'm glad I did! Since this was a one shot try, I had to go all in. I ordered the Texas Trinity and a Smoked Old Fashioned. I knew that there was no way I was going to finish it all, so I asked that they serve it in a To-Go box. I'm sure I rang their "weirdo meter". The Texas Trinity came with three meats. First off their brisket. It could have definitely held it's own against anything within 50 miles of Lockhart, Texas. The only down side is that I skated in at 7:00pm and they closed at 8:00pm. Not optimal time to get fresh brisket. In Texas they would laugh at you if you thought any would be left after 11:00am. As a result, it was evident that it had been sitting around a while. The flavor was great, the bark was spot on, but the texture was a little tough and the temp was a bit tepid. It would have scored MUCH higher had I arrived earlier or even at lunch. The ribs were gloriously SPOT ON. They are amongst the best ribs I've ever had. If you want one meat, go here. The bark was sweet and the meat perfectly smoked and this was a "winner winner Chicken Dinner" event. The sausage was another great find. It appeared that I had two types. I'm sorry but I have no clue if this was true or what they were called. The larger sausage was top 3 EVER in my book. Maybe the best. And then it had a subtle late kick to it. Very good. The little one was just as good and kind of reminded me of a more German wurst without the heavy kick. Either would do depending on your heat tolerance. A great choice. Being an old school chili junkie, the sides were easy. #1 was a chili cup all the way (onions, cheese and sour cream). It was good, but (I hate to say this) too much meat. The entire thing was shredded beef. Great if you like it, but I like some more beans in there. The beef was succulent and sweat. You may like it tremendously, but there wasn't the variety for me. #2 was coleslaw. I don't actually like coleslaw a lot, but it's like cornbread - it's a good indicator of quality. The coleslaw was just as straight forward as you could wish. And I say that as a good thing. Fresh, crunchy cabbage and all. Finally, I didn't have just one, but two, of their Smoked Old Fashioned. The first was so good that I had to have another while waiting for my Uber. They say the sugar in the simple syrup is smoked in their smoker for a few hours first and so are the oranges. Then they had a wicked good local rye whiskey and a nice cinnamon flavored cherry all worked together perfectly. Imagine a smoky flavored old fashioned and this was that. Definitely truth in advertisement here. It may get old if I tried them a lot, but for a one and done trip - it was sublime. Oh yeah, best of all - they didn't muddle the darn thing. Beyond the food, I thought the bartender who served me (being alone and late, I was at the bar) was just a fantastic person. Quick, friendly, having fun working there. Terrible customer service. We came in last night for a dinner - our party has 4adults and 1 baby. The host sat us at a 4seaters table, left no room for the baby. When we tried to move to next table that has 6 seats, the host came and told us she couldn't let us sit there, and then gave us an attitude saying "which is why I asked if you need a high chair". (We didn't need a high chair because the baby is only one month old). My husband then asked very nicely for her help to get us a regular chair so we could put the car seat on, and she just left! Another lady tried to help us by getting us a high chair and flipped it upside down. We tried putting the car seat on there, and then 2 minutes later, our baby along with the car seat and high chair fell off to the ground!! Basically meh. I wanted to like it and maybe had too high of expectations based on reviews, but the lower scores on here got it right in my view. Disclosure: I lived in Houston for several years and I am pretty spoiled for what good BBQ tastes like. But I have had good BBQ here in Seattle, so it's not impossible just because this isn't Texas. Brisket plate: The brisket while quite moist was lacking in flavor. Not all, but parts of it were almost too moist though. Strangely mushy actually, which is a first for any brisket I've ever had. The regular BBQ sauce was even more disappointing though actually I prefer a good brisket to not require slathering it in sauce to make it tasty. It came with 2 little side cups, so the quantity was good but the flavor was not. I've never tasted BBQ sauce that had such a distinct tomato-y flavor. It almost tasted like someone mixed a jar of mild BBQ sauce and tinned spaghetti sauce, then added some pepper. Pretty poor showing on the main item. On that note of pepper... oy, it continued... 2 sides: Coleslaw - on the dry side (not my cup of tea), and doused with far too much pepper/spice. To me coleslaw should cool your palate while eating spicy BBQ. Aside from the pepper and cabbage, there wasn't much taste to it. I like pepper and spicy stuff too, but that much on my coleslaw? Ick. Mac n cheese - this was also off for me. Again, someone thinks a bbq joint needs to have pepper and jalapeño in everything. Hint: it doesn't. But it should taste more like cheese, which it didn't. On the milky and mushy side. Toss in the many tiny bits of jalapeño and whatever other spices they had in there and I was disappointed enough to set it aside with the coleslaw. If you want to pimp your mac n cheese out like this, fine - different strokes for different folks, but call it jalapeño mac then so people know what they're getting. I won't be ordering again. Ordered the half rack ribs with the hot bbq sauce. It came with 2 sides from the list of 7 sides on Jack's menu; I got the mac n cheese and Texas caviar (Black eye pea salad). We got our fixin's too, comes on request that included white bread, pickles, jalapeños, and onions making our taste buds consistently stimulated the whole time. The mac n cheese was good; the black eye pea was delicious, but after tasting it for a while felt it was not as good as the first bite. The food was good would rate it 4 stars; what really made this a 5 star place is the awesome service and experience you receive. Our waiter was extremely nice and was patient when everyone was ordering. She helped recommend my sides since I wanted to know what she thought was delicious. And helped my friends with their plates as well. Side note, we had a group of over 8 people, so be prepared for a service fee if you have a large group. Here's the cherry on top we got to meet the owner Jack himself. He was very welcoming. I told him that it was our first time here and I found the place on Yelp. He offered us a tour and said whenever we want we can take a look at the back where all the BBQ magic happens (all smoke no mirrors). They showed us where the meat gets smoked and let me hold a huge piece of brisket meat (valued at over $1,000). Highly recommend going on a weekend with your friends and family for some good old BBQ at a good price. Visited Jack's BBQ before an event and my fiance and I decided to sit at the bar for a little while. I had a really great conversation with someone who was a regular there. He was super friendly and I saw him speaking just as genuinely with Jack himself when we first got there. I think that this first impression just goes to show what kind of people go into Jack's. I hardly ever have honest, interesting conversations with random people. This was a different story! The bartender was also very sweet. I don't remember her name but she was a blonde girl with a Southern accent. Settle down, gentleman. I had a couple of glasses of the rose and my fiance had one of their Shiner beers. This was actually our first time trying Shiner and my fiance really fell in love with it! You can tell they are big fans of Shiner because they have all sort of memorabilia in the bar area. This has become quite the staple for me living in the city. I haven't found a better BBQ spot. The brisket is to juicy and packed with flavor. I love the pulled pork and fried chicken sandwiches as well. The staff is always kind and attentive as well. As far as sides, I think the cornbread is pretty good. But coming here, is all about the meat. I'd give it a try if you're looking for some good barbecue. The price does run a bit on the pricier side but not compared to anything else in the city. I've been here several times and have always been in the bar or patio. This is real deal Texas BBQ. The cocktails are twee, boring and weak, don't bother. BUT, the food is great! The bbq is amazing. This time we had the Caesar with chicken and brisket chili. Both are spicy, mildly but noticeable. The star of the show is the cornbread with honey butter, I live for that! we have had all the meats and side dishes. Nothing bad in my book. a delicious BBQ spot. Only real criticism is that there's a big screen in the bar that keeps playing the same tired uninspired slideshow showing the owner visiting other spots in Texas. It is weird. So being from Bama it was tough for me to judge Texas BBQ. The food was good. Pulled pork was tender and the brisket too. Potato salad was yummy, Mac n cheese is better than other places. I loved the collard greens and slaw. The sweet tea needed more sugar, but that's because Bama's tea. I gave it 4 stars because I couldn't try the sauce, it was too peppery for me. But the guys liked. Really good Texas barbecue in Seattle. Went for lunch with a couple colleagues, one of who is from Texas and wanted to try the place. We did not have a reservation and though the place was packed we were quickly seated at a table. We ordered the picnic for 4, so we could try all the different meats and you get to pick 4 sides. All the meats were delicious, flavored and cooked really well. The pulled pork was my favorite. For the sides we picked potato salad, coleslaw, ranch beans and mac and cheese. The sides weren't that great but the meat made up for it. My colleague from Texas approved it. If I am in that part of Seattle, will visit again. read more

I have eaten at Jack's a number of times. Every visit is a surprise. I last visited In June and bbq ribs, collard greens and beans were delicious. I went back last week on July 17th and order ribs with sauce to the side, red beans and Mac n cheese. The skin on ribs were tough, the ribs weren't too tough but not enough meat, mostly gristle. The Mac n cheese was underwhelming. The beans were really good and well seasoned. The ribs were a little too tough for me so I gave mine away. I was very disappointed for the price I paid $26. Then later that night I vomited it all up. I was curios because it didn't seem like I had any type of food poisoning?? I surmised my body wasn't used to pork. Jack's BBQ makes me happy. Despite years of working nearby I did not know it existed until a co-worker suggested it for lunch and since I've never looked back. For me, this is BBQ done right. I am not going to state that I am a BBQ expert but I know I like the tastiest of delicious meat and Jack's has consistently delivered time and time again. I have had their smoked jalapeño sausage which was fantastically smoked and just hot enough from the jalapeño. I have had the beef bacon BLT which is incredible - their bacon is just tasty and is offered as an appetizer if you care to skip the sandwich but still want to chew on bacon. My favorite, hands down, is the brisket. It is cooked to perfection. It is tender, flavorful, and not overly fatty. I typically eat the sandwich because I love sandwiches, and it is the perfect portion size. I have had every appetizer except the pickled egg. I didn't care for the hushpuppies, but I am not a huge hushpuppy fan so don't take my word on that one. The chips are fine. But you don't want those. You're at a BBQ restaurant. You want the rib tips because the rib tips are utterly fantastic. I have seen people just eat those for a meal because they are that amazing. Just amazing. The bartenders are generous with alcohol and make the perfectly balanced alcoholic cocktails. They have a full bar and the bar is typically busy. I have had consistently great service from their servers and bartenders. They have always been prompt, friendly, and very accommodating. I had one large event there and our waitress was magnificent - she kept checking on the table, making sure the drinks never really emptied, and ensured everyone was happy. The restaurant is not a fancy restaurant. It has a very casual, relaxed environment. It isn't in the most convenient location, but there's plenty of free parking. The high reviews and the amazing number of them lured me in. The place is out of the but I'm one to go the extra mile for a hidden gem. The beef brisket was good. It is seasoned with a dry rub the result are nice but not impressive. The pork ribs are seasoned in the same way but start to suffer in flavor - way to salty for my taste. The bbq sauces are made by the house they are okay. I think they could do better.
