Jack Sprat: the menu is for "foodies." I simply "don't get" the negative reviews concerning Jack Sprat Restaurant in Girdwood. One must wonder if folks have taken leave of their senses. The Golden Rule of travel is research. Yelp provides an excellent restaurant list, but the user must goto the homepage of the restaurants and read the menu! Jack Sprat Restaurant is nothing short of GOURMET DINING!!! Annie W., greeter and server met me with a smile a mile wide! Jack Sprat Restaurant is very small, and we choose the wonderful Solarium to DINE! Totally loved the menu, and so do lots of other folks. Main dining room is small; solarium dining is a best bet in the rain; deck is neat; and there is a "yard dining area." We don't do spirits when driving, and ordered the velvet hash, which seem to be a mixture of delicious beets, potatoes, apples, and two eggs. WOW! This is not corned beef hash, and the chef knows HER stuff! Loved Jack Sprat Restaurant, and the menu is for "foodies." Want something else goto another Girdwood restaurant. The ambiance and service were great, but I think the food was overpriced for the quality. The Bibimbap and halibut were not very good given the price. The Bibimbap sauce was not gochujang. The halibut was well cooked but the portions were small given the price. This is the best option for Alyeska but don't have high hops. read more

We arrived at this place and were asked to wait 20 mins. We entered through the dining area during seating where we noticed plenty of tables were available. One odd thing that we noticed was that all water glasses all tables were pre-filled by the service there which is a health violation at most dining facilities. In my water cup I had a bug floating towards the bottom of water cup. There was another customer who questioned the pre-fill the water cups. Our server had also made an error with one of our drinks but was corrected before the food came out. read more

The best food around. Period! We visited for the New Year's Eve five course meal. The food was plated to perfection and looked just as good as it tasted. I love the use of fresh ingredients and unique flavors. Our waitress was outstanding! It was very busy but she managed to make us feel as if we were the only people there. I absolutely loved the inside of the restaurant. It is extremely cozy. You can tell that every single detail is thought out for the customer to have a comfortable and enjoyable experience. The wine and beer menu is extensive and the wine pairing with the five course meal was excellent! Whether you're staying in Girdwood, passing through, or just in the area looking for some outstanding food, I would highly recommend you visit Jack Sprat for a high-quality, delicious meal! read more

Good food and nice atmosphere. We stopped by during Forest Fair weekend. It was pretty crowded, but we were seated outdoors in about 30 minutes (Inside was a longer wait). Food was really good. Our server said it had just changed, but we were super happy with our choices. My favorite was the pasta dish - it was so tasty! They had a good selection of local-ish brews which I loved trying. Outside was fun, inside was super cute and cozy. If I go again, I'd for sure make a reservation a head of time. read more

We came here March 12 2023 to celebrate our anniversary, I've lived here my whole life and we both had never been so we got to check it off our list. It opened at 4 and we knew to get their when it opened. When we walked up about 20 minutes before it opened there was one other family waiting nearby. We got seated second. I think this is a Girdwood thing but many restaurants do t take reservations and make it seem like everything is so sacred and you need to line up beforehand to get it or you'll miss out- kind of a high ego thing and I am not a fan of this vibe here in town. The building is beautiful, especially on the inside. Very nice set tables and everything was clean. The menu is kind of small with about 6 apps and 6 entrees. When we went we got a cheesy schmool which is tomato's sauce with ricotta in it and fresh baked focaccia bread. The bread was thick but good, could of used some salt. The tomato's sauce was very hot and burned the roof of my mouth but it was good. Was good but tried it once no need for a second round. Ricotta was our next choice. Apps were highly priced considering they normally are supposed to be cheaper than the main course but it wasn't much. For dinner we both actually got the wagu burger. It only being $21 I think it's half wagu half beef? Wasn't specific. Said "1/2#wagu" It was very good. Well seasoned, fresh baked bun, scraped my onions off but my husband said they were done very well and he enjoyed them. Pickles and tomatoes were nice. Fries were hot and fresh. I think they make pretty much everything themselves. The yam fries were huge and very good also. Had some kind of sauce that was good. The chocolate king cake was so good with the chocolate ganache, we were full and got it to go but we ate a few bites in the car :) no pictures of that oops but other people have. Didn't get any drinks, only beer and wine. $80 total not terrible. I heard they do breakfast in the summer? No word on their website but would think about coming there for brunch but nothing really I would want to try for dinner again. read more

First time here visiting Sunday July 20 2025. Had the wagu burger and cheddar broccoli soup. The soup had no flavor and the cheese had broken and was grainy not smooth. After some salt it was ok. As for the wagu burger, it had a bacon jam that took over the burger. Not only the flavor but the texture. The bacon bits were so hard I had to remove them to keep from damaging my teeth. Later that evening I came down with the worst case of food poisoning I've ever had. It's Tuesday morning and I'm still recovering. The food gets 1 star, but the service gets 5. read more

Wow wow wow!!!!! I was so pleasantly completely and thoroughly surprised by how perfect Jack Sprat was. I'm not sure what I had in mind but this is by far the best and nicest dining experience I had in Alaska last week. For whatever which reason, I think I assumed this was some little hole in the wall spot which I was totally fine to grab dinner at after Girwood Brewery but no.. no no... this place is super classy and totally nice. The perfect spot for a celebration, date, birthday, anniversary, family time, friends, you name it - it reminded me of a couple of nice spots in Park City UT. They don't take reservations and close at 9P, we arrived around 740P and were able to be seated immediately. I loved this spot from the second I glanced up at it from the road, thinking no way is that the restaurant. Super cute, warm, inviting decor place. Had a perfect table in one of the smaller more quiet dining spaces with a couple other tables. I'd seen the menu before arriving and already had in mind what I'd order but once reviewing it in the restaurant I was so excited, everything looked so enticing and yummy. We started with the yam fries, which honestly I can say would probably be a skip for me next go round unless you're with a super hungry group and just need a bit of filler before your meal arrives. I know sweet potatoes are good for you and I like them but this item was my least fav. We both ordered the soup of the evening, a butternut squash done with Egyptian seasoning and this bowl of soup was everything you can want from a bowl of soup, so satisfying and delish and I make a really good butternut squash soup - this one actually is better than mine and when something is better than mine I know it's very good, it was topped with a bit of fried sage which is always the perfect touch to certain dishes. You must order this soup! The menu item I knew without a doubt before even arriving that I'd order was the Peanut Pan. This dish was decadent and yummy but I certainly couldn't have ordered it and eaten it all myself. I probably had about a 1/4 of it. I'm not super big on peanuts or peanut butter I'm more of an almond and cashew nut and butter girl but this dish was delish but in my opinion a dish that is nicely shared unless you are a big fan or peanut. Super yummm but an overload of peanut for me, perfect for a small portion. My favorite dish was one I was going to pass on until recommended to me when asking about another halibut option, the Deep Sea Curry. OMG!!!!!!! Mind blowing good, right up my alley I love a good curry like no ones business. This dish was so nicely done, with a forbidden black rice, sautéed red pepper, onion and kale (which are literally three things I can't breathe without), a red curry coconut broth with pan seared halibut. Now I'm not a big halibut seeker outter, I'm more of a Chilean sea bass type but I was eating my fair share of halibut on this trip - each dish seemed to be prepared the same way, where I questioned whether or not it was overcooked. I don't prepare/cook Halibut at home so maybe this is the way it's supposed to be cooked, it's a bit firm not flaky so I'm guessing this is right, but what do I know... It was good nonetheless and this dish is a do not miss. Superb! The entire meal, glass of wine I had (didn't want much on this front since I'd just left a brewery) and dessert ordered to-go were all incredible. The chocolate olive oil cake with mascarpone filling, a light chocolate ganache (I'm guessing it was) over the top with a sprinkle of sea salt was nearly sinful. I ate half of it before going to bed with very little guilt. It was really divine. I need to recreate this recipe at home and hope it comes out this amazing. Service was great, the place is by far the nicest place I dined in and I would highly, highly recommend dining here if you are looking for a great meal or need to impress someone in Alaska. I LOVE meat and cheese and yet somehow these one of my favorite nachos of all time!!! GET THEM!! Both the curried halibut and the peanut pan were so-so...but oh those nachos!!! King Dong Cake. Holy Cow. I Yam...so happy we went here. All the punny names are only out done by the taste and quality. They had a delicious Spanish wine. Quality and diverse beer list. They had kombucha mixers. No liquor though. I have never been to a non-Korean restaurant that does bibimbap this good. Right down to the perfectly cooked egg on top. The rice got crispy as the clay pot continued to keep everything hot. All sorts of tasty items in the bowl like kimchi, carrots, and bean sprouts. They let me add the mushrooms from the vegan option. Honestly, they were better than the pork (and the pork was great!). Outdoor seating came complete with umbrellas and big deterrent citronella candles. Bugs weren't that bad though. This is a review on past experiences and also seeing this has happened to multiple parties not just ours. Super slow service and food comes out cold only to be told " we are busy" The management here needs a reality check, and some serious coaching on how to handle situations. Based on the "owners" comment on a recent one star shows all you need to know about how they run a business. "Whats more to complain about" alot actually, 1 learn how to treat customers right. 2 learn how to address concerns. 3 get both sides to the story. 4 have management that care more about customers and ensuring service is not slow, and food is edible than just $$$ signs. We stopped in right around dinner opening and were able to get right in - I don't believe they take reservations so good to possibly plan some waiting time if needed! Their menu is on the smaller side, but still something to please most! We wanted to share some items, so we went with the Alaska Semi-Sweet Cider (Alaska Cider Co - very yummy), their special soup of the day which was a ginger tomato bisque (AMAZING), I Yam starter (delicious, salt baked sweet potato wedges with homemade sauce), kale salad w/ salmon added (extra to add salmon but very good kale and fish), and ended with the peachy keen (baked peaches with crumble and house made vanilla ice cream - every element was so yummy)! The ambiance was nice and artsy inside (still casual but wouldn't be out of place if you dressed up a little) and they had a nice outdoor area! First I want to say that I have gone to Jack Sprat MANY times. Every time I've been here it has been amazing! Unfortunately, this time the food was horrible. They did a special Valentine menu. We didn't get to select anything, they brought everything out based on their special Valentine menu. The food was nothing like normal Jack Sprat type food. Honestly, it was really really really weird food. The duck was significantly undercooked. We sent it back, but it still wasn't good. Unfortunately now my girl has the $hits. WONDERFUL...on Valentine's Day...sooo much for a romantic night. lol Highly recommend that people go there during their normal menu and avoid any special menus. read more

My husband loved the bin bin bop and I had the salmon which was also good (FYI it has the skin on it). Only in anchorage for a few days and place was on list of restaurants to check out and it was definitely worth it! Great atmosphere with super friendly staff we couldn't have been happier with everything and especially our food. I ordered the ribeye which was cooked perfectly, we also ordered wagu beef burger and a pork and grits special that tasted like a rosemary thanksgiving. Heed the sign on the host stand and my own personal warning: If you're coming here, be prepared to wait, both for being seated and to eat (they do not take reservations). Pro tip: try to come right when they're open because this place fills up FAST. If you're in a rush or just looking for a quick bite, probably not the best place to come to. That being said, they have a lot of outdoor seating with water available and you're free to order drinks while you wait, which helps the time go by faster. On to the food... -Vegan nachos: I'd say this is a MUST. These were amazing, and I couldn't even tell this was meatless (this is coming from someone who is not vegan nor vegetarian). Awesome starter to share with a group and we all found ourselves going back for more. I also appreciated the kick of spiciness! -Green Eden salad: Amazing salad! I could've eaten a whole one by myself (we shared among our group of 5). The variety of vegetables and toppings was perfectly balanced, and the vinaigrette was so good. It also wasn't drenched in dressing, which I appreciated. -Deep Sea Curry (halibut): Yum. Huge portion of halibut sitting on a bed of black rice and rich curry coconut broth. Nothing bad to say here! -Naked Berry Cheesecake: Another MUST. This was a vegan cheesecake, consisting of a vanilla cashew filling and mixed berry swirl, and I have to say I didn't even miss real cream cheese. It was one of the highlights of our meal, and we gobbled this down in about 5 minutes. The almond coconut date crust was amazing. Do yourself a favor, and order this. Service is super friendly as well - you can tell the staff are certainly doing their best to accommodate everyone. Our waiter came by several times to make sure we had plenty of water to drink and tried to keep us informed of when our food was coming out. It took around 1.5 hours for our main entrees to come out (starters came out sooner within 15-20 minutes or so of ordering), but I didn't mind. More expensive than I would like to spend, however a delicious bibibap bowl (or however you spell it), and a large portion so I took it home and made myself an egg for the leftovers the next day. The outdoor waiting area is lovely, and of course the views are wonderful. I'd recommend this over a couple other options in Girdwood, but not my favorite if you have to choose only one place to dine while visiting from out of town. That being said, you could do worse, too. Service was great. Like most places you have to wait when you get there and they don't do reservations for less than 6 but that's usual for Alaska. The menu is filled with fresh items. The presentation is beautiful. One thing, request modifications if you like herbs and spices or need more protein for salads and pasta. Don't wait for the result the kitchen is too busy for that. I requested extra sauce for the Peanut Pan pasta dish. It was just right after a 15 minute wait but it's made to order. I needed more shrimp and chili spice. I add it at home and smiled.
