The Crispy Chicken sandwich with fries
Eli T.

Loved the food! The fries are amazing and the burgers are so good! The service was amazing! We got a table as soon as we walked in, and I loved my server! It is loud inside but, it still has a nice vibe. There are lots of photos and TV's, and In my opinion is amazing for families! I do recommend!

OMG! What started out as a promising quick lunch turned out to be a drawn out almost torturous affair in the hot sun! In a nutshell, the food at Jack Astor's near Yonge-Bloor was good but the service was slooow and not so great. Stopping in for what was supposed to be a quick lunch on my way back to the office from the bank, I discovered some good food but surprisingly slow service. Let's start with the food. I had a burger with fries and it was really good! It came with bacon and cheese and lots of thin cut crispy fries. The burger patty was juicy and tender and the whole burger was put together quite well. This was a good meal! What kinda spoiled it for me though, was the speed of service. Ughhh! I was there for over an hour! And it really wasn't that busy! Only three tables were occupied on the patio when I arrived and a gentleman took the table in front of me shortly after. That left about eight tables empty. The entire patio was shaded and cool and it was a lovely day. Was! After around forty five minutes of waiting in the shade, the sun came around the building across the street and it was HOT! The food finally arrived and I just wanted to eat quickly and get out of there. It was getting HOTTER and I was now sweating buckets! So now I was finished and waiting for my bill. Where were all the staff? The fellow at the table in front of me must have been feeling the same way because he got up to go and look for our server. He finally showed up (it must have been too hot for him out there), we paid and left. How long did it take to have lunch? Long enough for the customer that arrived after me to have almost three whole beers. Lunch took over an hour. Please don't tell my boss... PS - The patio was really noisy, from a nearby overhead vent.

We came here after movie night, on a sports night also, at around 830-900pm. We were got a seat quickly and was introduced to our server right away. We have placed our orders and got our food a little faster than expected on such a busy night. My steak was cooked accordingly so I have no complain on that. However, here's my complain... We asked for the bill at 10pm, but we did not get to leave until 1045pm. Why? Because our waitress did not print the bill until 1025pm! Now, I understand it was a busy night but still, we did not expect the bill to be printed at 1025pm, 25 mins after we have asked for the bill. We have seen others asked for the bill and got theirs quickly. So I didn't understand. Basically, come to this location if you have much time to spare on a dinner

Asiago chicken bow tie, grilled chicken quesadilla, original sirloin

Let's talk about the service. My friend and I came here for lunch on Tuesday. There were a lot of empty tables when we dined in. We thought we were going to have a good experience dining in since the waitress was constantly checking up on us to see if we were ready to order. We ordered the classic sirloin, Asiago chicken bow tie, and grilled chicken quesadilla. The waitress informed us that we were going to get the quesadilla first (since it was our starter). The server came and brought us our mains. We questioned where our starter was. Not sure if they forgot about it, but the server brought our grilled chicken quesadilla a few minutes later. Half way through our entree, the waitress gives us our bill and the dessert menu. One of the reasons why I come to Jack Astors is to have their delicious sundae. Since our bill was already totalled, my friend and I decided not to get any dessert since it was too much of a hassle. We felt rushed devouring our food and did not enjoy it as much as we wanted. We didn't understand why we were given our bill while we were still eating. We assumed that the waitress was leaving and wanted to check out. However, that was not the case. After we finished our entree, the waitress was still serving other customers. They need to work on their customer service. Will I come back? Maybe, maybe not. But will definitely not come back to this location.

FOOD - 3/5 The food here is just typical menu items you would find in any other bar. They have tons of dishes you can share with friends as well as a wide selection of mains. I think food here is overpriced for a lot of their mains. We got nachos and calamari to share which were decently priced. The nachos were okay, while the calamari wasn't my favourite. SERVICE - 4/5 The staff here were really friendly and accommodating. It was, however, hard at times to flag our server down. They should really improve on that aspect. OVERALL - 4/5 It's a really great place to meet up with friends however the food is just regular bar food.

This is I think one of the best Jack Astor's in the country. Great food, great service.

I went to Jack Astor's today. I got there about 12:30pm and it was busy. There were no tables available so I sat at the bar. I ordered what I always order at Jack Astor's ... Chicken Parmigiana. I really like it. When it arrived, the cheese wasn't melted (it was really obvious) and when I stuck my finger in it, the chicken was stone cold. Needless to say, I sent it back. The chicken came back piping hot but the pasta was just warm. It was tasty, though. Even though there were a bunch of servers buzzing around, I found the service lacking. After my meal was delivered, no one checked to see if I wanted a refill on my pop when my glass was empty or if I wanted dessert. After waiting for a while, I had to ask for my bill. I've been to some great Jack Astor's ... this one is definitely not one of them. I won't be back.

House salad with Greek dressing

2.5 Order: SEÑOR JACK'S JALAPEÑO BURGER It was not as spicy but more of a sweet tangy flavour due to the jalapeno zucchini relish (yum!). I do wish they had more chili hot sauce though. I love sweet/spicy stuff. However, the burger itself was quite dry as you kept digging it. And there was a handful of shredded lettuce (way too much). I ordered a house salad w/greek dressing for the side which usually comes with mixed greens, but this had mostly romaine lettuce. (Eh..) The portion was big though! BUT, I only came here because I had a coupon ($4.97 for ANY burger) or else it'd be $13.71. (Yikes!) ALSO, this place would be ideal for kids and groups of teens 'cause the tables are like Montana's where you can draw with crayons. Overall: This burger is worth the coupon price. Okay, maybe like $8.50 with the big salad, but definately NOT the almost 14 dollars.

I think this location is one of the better Jack. I always get good service here and there hasn't been anything wrong with the food. I come here often just for a snack or dessert (especially in the summer time) after a day of shopping. The must get is the garlic bread with cheese (I've been loving it since high school). I find the Cesar salad very salty because it was heavily drenched in salad dressing. I believe I got some sort of Tex-Mex burger which was delicious for the most part. I don't think the burger is part of the permanent menu but I may be wrong.

Our server was not attentive what so ever, he took quite a while to even take our order and at one point we had to wave him down. It was quite disappointing to know that this was how we were treated coming out for dinner. Now when it comes to the food, also nothing special. I ordered the Steak & Prawns but it definitely lacked flavours. Where I know the server was not being attentive was when I had asked for medium well and it came out medium rare. The prawns were garlicky and flavourful but the steak was definitely underwhelming. We also ordered the Nachos with Chicken (chicken was extremely bland), Calamari (nothing special), Parm fries (probably best thing I had), and the Trio Dip (which was alright). Overall was a mid experience and not sure I would come back, after the way we were treated. 5.5/10 Recommend!

Beertown occupies a commanding footprint in Toronto's Financial District -- a sprawling,…read moreenergetically lit gastropub that announces itself with a theatre of gleaming taps and an open, convivial floor plan designed unapologetically for the after-work crowd. It is, in many respects, exactly what it intends to be: a loud, generous, unpretentious haven for those emerging from Bay Street offices or rallying before a Scotiabank Arena event. The beer programme is the undisputed centerpiece. The selection is vast and thoughtfully curated, spanning local GTA craft offerings alongside storied European imports such as Erdinger and La Trappe. Flights arrive on paddles with coasters identifying each pour -- a charming detail that rewards the curious drinker. One could spend an entire evening simply navigating the rotating taps, and many regulars do precisely that. The kitchen delivers pub fare that, while familiar in concept. Service is warm and attentive on its best evenings, with staff who clearly understand the rhythm of a busy house. However, during peak hours the pace can stretch thin, and a lapse in table attention can surface. The noise level is considerable -- an unavoidable consequence of the venue's scale and popularity. Those seeking quiet conversation will find it a challenge; those seeking energy and the communal hum of a city unwinding will feel entirely at home. For the corporate denizen of the Financial District, or the sports fan looking for a spirited pre-game gathering point, Beertown is a reliable and genuinely enjoyable destination. The beer alone is worth the visit.

Thankfully somehow they did and we sat down to order. I'm not sure if it was our server's break but a couple of other servers came to check on us but couldn't (wouldn't?) take our order until our actual server arrived a while later, which was maybe 20 minutes or so. Not deterred, as we were hungry and thirsty - we ordered the giant beer paddles for our table to share and also a few apps. The beer arrived warm quite a while later and also only had the breweries names on the coasters, not the actual name of the beer so we guessed on a few. The apps were not memorable and were only warmish - so was not blown away. Too bad as the location nearer to me in Oakville was much better in terms of food and service. Even though my office is steps away, I wouldn't rush back.

Ambiance - 4/5: similar to most sports bar, it's dim and loud with a lot of sports games on tv. They had a lot of reservations so the tables were split off for our small reservation. It felt a little tight. There seems to be 2 levels of seating. Service - 3.75/5: we got there early but they were nice enough to seat us early. The host sweetly pulled out my seat for me. It took us awhile to decide what to order but the server was patient with us. He checked in on us a few times. Maybe because the tables are tight, servers kept knocking into my chair seving other patrons and my seat is all the way into the table. Food - 3.5/5: I appreciate that the menu gives little historical moments that happened over the years. we ordered: Spinach dip - comes with chips and pita. Some of the chips were heavily seasoned. The pita is soft but doesnt really absorb much of the spinach dip. The dip itself is light in flavor. I prefer the chips over the pita Steak frites - we ordered medium rare and they got the cook right. The steak knife is very bendy. It should have been a AAA striploin but for some reason it felt tough and was hard to cut through. The charcoal grill marks made the exterior too burnt, giving it a bitterness to the steak. It came with an arugula salad and a very genorous portion of fries. Everything was seasoned well. The arugula salad and the chimmichuri on the steak had a tartness to it which added some brightness to the dish. I typically don't use ketchup but I needed it to help me with the fries. I could not finish the fries Sundae - there's probably only 1 scoop worth of vanilla ice cream. It comes in a cup with whipped cream and berries. Overall: 3.75/5 - If we come back, I might try other food items.

We started with the Brussels sprouts which is always a great choice from here. Crispy on the outside and not an overwhelming Brussels sprout taste. This is likely because there is a generous sprinkling of grated parm and a great amount of dip. We tried the crispy tuna sushi. The tuna was beautifully marinated, so flavourful. And the sushi was nice and crispy. The vodka pie was a seasonal item and when we saw it listed, we knew we needed to try it. The sauce- amazing, the press was nice and flaky and light and really tasty. And the soccer Sada added nice saltines and flavour without being too overwhelming.
