We also got the chicken wings with Honey Garlic and it was very tasty and good size, but the celery sticks tasted a bit off. So my wife and I were hunting for a place do hangout over the long weekend and we decided to go with Jack Astor's. The summary is this: family friendly, great service, good food options for everyone and most importantly they're fun. I made a reservation for the 3 of us just to make sure. When we arrived, front desk promptly got us to a booth seat. Offered us choices of booster or high chair. We ended up bringing our own cause it's just easier for us. Anyhow... the server was excellent and gave us lots of help and fun to talk to. We ordered food shortly after: kids burger, chicken club and buffalo blue chicken sandwich. Would not recommend coming here unless you want to take the chance of getting sick. Last night after a visit with my boyfriend he got severely ill throughout the night (will spare the details) After contacting a manager the next morning (Claudia) I was told I would get a refund but upon filling out a report in store was later told I would essentially need to go to the doctors to prove the illness as no one else has called to complain about any illness as I predicted it was food poising. This was disappointing as I pointed out a few things to Claudia 1. That I had called first thing in the morning and that other people might not have had the chance to call in as of yet 2. That it extremely inconvenient as apart of their policy to request someone go to the doctors to prove the illness (the last thing anyone wants to do after being sick all night is spend hours waiting at the doctors to then prove said illness) 3. That my refund should not be at the result of other people not calling. Not everyone does as some people have social anxieties, don't like to complain despite the valid reason too or for this reason (the response of your situation being invalidated). My boyfriend for example wasn't going to call in but as I stand on strong morals of a company providing a service that's positive if you're paying for I didn't on his behalf. I will continue to look into this matter but nonetheless would suggest any other jack astors location over this one. read more

Came here after the grand opening and had a great time! Ordered the steak and fries, and it was much tastier than I've thought. The steak was delicious and cooked to perfection. This was a business lunch. A reservation was made for Dec 19, 2024 at 12 pm. The person that made the reservation was already there a little before noon. I got there at 12:05 pm. Stood in the line up when I got to the greeter, she told me to walk around and find the person who made the reservation. I told her I have not met this person before all I have is the name. She said there are no names registered. I called the cell and met the person. The waiter came by promptly. I ordered a coke, the other guest was already having a cold drink. About 20 minutes later, the waiter comes by to take the order but not before asking if we want more drinks. We both ordered the same, a burger. An hour later, we ask the waiter what happened to the order? He says they are very busy - just as he is saying this, the server comes with the order. Its now almost 1:30 pm. We were not able to finish our burger. We asked for the bill. The waiter comes by and then asks us: "Are you 'guys' going back to work?" I'm not, he is, I replied. Where do you work he asks. The other guests tells him. He then asks for a job there. Ordinarily, I would not have minded this. But considering the circumstances - There as not even an apology for the long wait. We were visiting the area and having a real hard time finding a place to eat. It was a combination of not knowing the area and not knowing what was open or not. In this area where this restaurant sits are 2 large chains which are a) open and 2) large enough so that you'll find a seat anytime. Jack Astor's saved us. Finding a place everyone in your party will like can be difficult if two of those people aren't adventurous eaters. Meaning, they don't want Indian or Chinese or anything else. Jack Astor's is a nice large chain with decent American food. I had the Epic Asiago chicken ceasar salad and it was all right. 2 of the group split a burger and liked it. Another got a fish dish I think and they liked it. 2 of us had wine and we didn't notice until the waitress walked away that it was 1/2 price bottles on Monday and Tuesday. I've never been a real fan but it's consistent "OK" food. Recently renovated and reopened last Friday. They have a promotion for their reopening of $25 off a minimum spend of $55 on food and non-alcoholic beverages for dine in only. We ordered their tiny tuna tacos, which were, in fact, tiny and came in wonton shells. They were good, but a little heavy on the sauce. We also ordered their holy smoke bbq burger and fish tacos. The burger was on the greasier side, but the pickles on the side helped. I wish there were more than two slices of pickles. Their fish tacos were good but come in flour tortillas. I like to spice mine up with their hot sauce. The loaded baked potato was huge and delicious. Also tried their spicy grapefruit margarita, which was a miss for me, didn't know where the spicy was. The service was friendly, but the kitchen was a little slow. Removed one star for the bathroom (Started with 4 stars) - it's shared with Scaddabush Restaurant and there was puke in the bathroom that wasn't cleaned up even after we told two different employees about it. Our server was fantastic - I think his name was Gustavo. It was busy in there and he was doing the best he could do. And he really kept us hydrated with the water. Why is there security in a Jack Astors? Security that looks like they aren't built to keep the place 'secure'. Is it because of the location? Probably. Bruschetta very good! Burgers and fries good too! I heard people behind us order steaks as well done - like why bother? I love Jack Astor's! Great food, music, spot, and prices! Unfortunately, the menu has recently changed and a lot of the great items have been taken off such as the fajitas (don't understand why because it used to be a staple here). The prices of burgers are ridiculous (most are $17-18 or more than $20) and burgers should not be that expensive.... We came on a Saturday at around 9pm and waited about 30-40 mins to get seats for three. The servers were super friendly and nice though! We loved the Pan bread with cheese! it is definitely a must get item at this restaurant! The pad thai wasn't anything special but the tofu was great. The pad thai noodles could have used more flavour and spices! Overall, it was good and maybe next time, I would just come back for the appetizers. read more

They have the cutest little patio to host a girly luncheon. Lots of umbrellas to shade the tables from the sun. When it gets too hot the misters go off to cool things down. Their hanging flower baskets are well taken care and overflowing, a perfect background for a leisurely lunch. We escaped the crowds at the Scarborough Towne Centre and were looking for a place to eat outside the mall. What attracted us to Jack Astor's was their lovely outdoor patio. There was no line up and we were escorted to our table right away. Our server Mark/Marc was awesome. He answered all our newbie questions about the menu and gave suggestions to fit our tastes. We started off with drinks - Strawberry Mint Soda (Strawberry and lime juices with fresh mint and soda) and a Sassafrazz (Orange, Pineapple, Cranberry Cocktail, raspberry and Grapefruit juices with Sprite). They were light and refreshing. I ordered the Steak frites subbing the fries with a side salad. The salad was fresh and the steak was cooked perfectly - seared well, a little pink in the middle, flavorful and juicy. My friend ordered the Roasted Double Chicken Breast which came with dirty rice (not the Southern Cajun kind of dirty rice), sautéed peppers, onions, avocado, and feta. I wanted to take advantage of all the birthday deals, and one of them was for a free dessert at Jack Astor's. Since Jack Astor's got rid of my favourite apple pie dessert (so sad), I have yet to try their new dessert menu. So I thought this was a good opportunity to do so. We added a caesar salad to our entrées for $2.77: crisp romaine lettuce tossed in creamy garlic dressing topped with grated Parmesan Romano cheese. They were pretty generous with the bacon bits. Jack's signature chicken fingers: chicken tenders, marinated, seasoned and breaded in-house to order. They were served with fries and dipping sauce. Jack's chicken fingers are supposedly never frozen, and these were pretty good and tasted fresh. Of course, it's hard to mess up with chicken fingers, as I generally find the frozen ones quite enjoyable as well. The breading wasn't too thick and the meat was tender and juicy. I was actually really disappointed with their new dessert menu. There were only four choices. In the end, I opted for New york vanilla cheesecake, described as a deliciously rich and smooth cheesecake with a graham cracker crust, served with seasoning topping. The cheesecake was decent, but definitely not the best that I've had. I wished that the texture was creamier, and slightly softer. But I won't complain since it was free! Of all the fast casual restaurants out there I enjoy the value you get at Jacks. They've upped their beer game with a decent selection of craft beers, including IPAs, saison, Belgian wit and more. They do rotate the craft taps, so you'll always find something new to try. The food is decent, fair value for a place like this. The perk (which seems to be the 'norm' for your local chains) is that soft drinks are bottomless. As a Diet Coke lover, I was in heaven. The last time I checked, Jack Astor's is a family restaurant. This used to be a go to place for my group of friends whenever we celebrated birthdays. The restaurant offers a special birthday treat where they play music, give you a tin foil hat and provide a small cup cake with a sparkler in it. The food, itself, is pretty average and nothing really sets it apart from other restaurants in Toronto. Their burgers and sandwiches are usually a safe bet to order. My friends also love the shareables, especially the Ye Olde Faithful Macho Nachos. The restaurant itself is cozy and big, with the layout leaving you not feeling cramped in the slightest. The staff were usually nice to us when we went, but that could also be because we usually went in a big group. Parking should be a breeze since you can also park in Scarborough Town Centre's parking lots and walk over if the restaurant's lot is full. read more

Jack Astor's has been one of my favourite restaurants to come too when I'm in the mood for burgers, pastas, fries, etc! They have a very friendly and welcoming environment that makes you feel at home. I would recommend coming here for their burgers as that is what is the best from what I've tried. Holy smoke BBQ burger is the best in my opinion, I've had steak from here before and it wasn't the best experience as the veggies were bland and had 0 to little flavour. So that was left uneaten. But there's always a first and last to some things! Definitely coming back here for the burgers as it is one of the best I've had, never a let down. read more

The vegetables were hard and the potato mash was chunky, not to my preference. My friend had their fish n' chips with sweet potato fries. He noted that the coleslaw tasted better than any other component on the pan (yes, this dish is served in a metal tray). Went to this Jack Astor's last night with a friend and my boyfriend. As I don't remember going to one before, they recommended the crab dip to share for the table and we all got a plate of chicken fingers. The crab dip was amazing and beyond what I expected! This dish came with fried taro slices, snap peas, bean sprouts, red peppers, green onions and rice. I was hoping to order a healthier dish, however it was drenched in sweet and sour sauce. I didn't end up finishing the dish even though the portion was not large, since the sauce was overpowering. Our server was nice however didn't seem like she wanted to be there. Came as a large group, a birthday party of two bench tables and everyone ordering at separate times, so take this as just my experience. The service was a little iffy, very off and on. The servers are friendly enough, and maybe it was partly my fault for not noticing but some mistakes were made. I ordered the featured draught, an amber beer and some wings. First off, my drink came later than a bunch of other beers that were ordered by other people 10 mins later. Second, as I was trying a new beer, I didn't even realize I actually received the wrong drink till I had finished mine and was sampling my friend's whose tasted more like the drink that was described to me. She had suspected something was wrong as well, but just stayed quiet since no one else spoke up. Quite unfortunate. The wings were a little slow to come, but the presentation was fun, and Korean and medium sauces really hit your nose in a good way. They toss the wings in small pots right in front of you! Chicken Asiago Bow Tie Pasta: I've been going to Jacks regularly for around a decade now & always order the same thing: the chicken Asiago bow tie pasta. It used to be my favourite item on their menu, in fact it might've even been one of my favourite pastas ever. However, every time I've ordered it for the past 2 years, at multiple locations, it just tastes awful. I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt because I just loved this pasta so much until accepting they've done something to their recipe, not quite sure what, maybe added more Asiago?
