Pros- staff is super friendly - sampler was mostly great. Fan favorite were the ribs and stuffed mushrooms. Cons- everything else But seriously, for a night that was not busy it took so long to get drink refills, the food was mostly bland with little flavor, the calamari was way over cooked, the drinks were flat. They changed their pizza sauce, new sauce has little to no flavor. And don't get me started on the building. So much water damage. The bathroom is a hazard. So small you barely fit, looks like mold on ceiling, smells strange, and fan makes loud noses. Over all, we won't be back.

Grinder

I ordered a grinder Monday night, grinder was good... until I nearly cracked my tooth on a hard piece of plastic! I had anxiety the rest of the night wondering if I swallowed any plastic! Also, I would recommend having the person taking the orders, and collecting the money to be more friendly and courteous!

Inside the meatball grinder , where if the cheese ??? Yuk.

Disappointed! We walked in and sat at the bar, the place not that busy at all and quite a few staff working. Took a while to be greeted and when we were it was like the bartender was having a bad day herself so we were not greeted with a smile. My wife ordered a cocktail special to start , and myself a dirty martini... way too much olive juice and when I asked for blue cheese stuffed olives , I received regular small olives, disappointing when drinking a martini. I also asked about the steak special if I could have the risotto instead of the potato, the bartender asked "the owner" and the answer was "no, it's too much money for the risotto and potato comes with it " made no sense to me and I was a little shocked with that answer. We still had hope and decided to order a few things to take with us. We ordered a sausage cheese pizza snd 2 half grinders. Meatball and eggplant. The pizza was good. The grinders ? A very sad excuse for a grinder. Not at all appealing and they could barely spare the meatballs or eggplant or even the cheese for that matter and on cheap bread. Waste of money. We love supporting our town and local businesses, but good customer service is a must and good food ! I honestly think they need to really take a look at who is making the food and who they hire to bartend. Sadly, we will no longer be going to J&M. For amazing food and service try Zuppa , they are top notch with service, bartenders, cocktails and food ! Sorry J&M .... you have some shaping up to do.

Dinner salad with what was supposed to be Italian dressing. The dressing tasted like oil and Parmesan cheese.

A long standing mom & pop Italian style restaurant that was suggested to me by many people. After reviewing the menu online I finally decided to give it a try. I wanted this place to be great since so many people had such positive things to say but I have to say I left a little disappointed. While the menu was expansive (both online and in person) however a lot of the options were not available. The portions are huge but the flavor was lacking. The wait staff was friendly but the service was so slow. Now I will end with we were there on Mother's Day so maybe that's why service wasn't above and beyond and menu items were unavailable, but there is nothing to explain in the lack of flavor in the food.

Grilled chicken Caesar salad with the dressing not pre-mixed in.

The restaurant had a nice open layout with a very comfortable feel. Our menus were brought out promptly, but it took a little bit for the server to return to take our drink order. I ordered a grilled chicken Caesar salad. The chicken was thinly sliced and a bit overcooked where it was dry and tough. The Caesar dressing was not premixed and the bowl didn't really provide ample space to mix on your own. I don't know about other people, but I expect Caesar dressing to already be mixed in. One of our guests ordered the buffalo wings and he seemed to thoroughly enjoy them, but he will pretty much eat anything. Ha ha! Another ordered a chicken panini sandwich with mozzarella and spinach and said it was decent, but nothing spectacular. It took us several tries to get the servers attention to get our check. Overall it was just an average experience.

Chicken francaise

I know things are rough right now and normally I would just shrug off a bad day. But not only was the service terrible, the food was not good at all. It took 15 minutes for us to get our drinks, which were just glasses of water. Me and the individual I was with ordered an appetizer off the specials menu. We were given the wrong condiment, no big deal. But we were not given utensils so we had to wait to catch the servers attention. My guest ordered chicken francaise with french onion soup and a side of pasta with marinara. I ordered chicken alfredo with french onion soup. The chicken francaise? It wasn't the worst but it was overwhelmingly lemony. It seemed as if the lemon used wasn't fresh but was bottled. The marinara sauce on the pasta? It tasted like jarred sauce and the person I was with didn't even eat it he said it was that bad. We both agreed that the french onion soup was incredibly salty. The amount of salt in the soup took over all the flavors and had us both wishing we had a gallon of water handy. The chicken on the chicken alfredo was cooked nicely and was flavorful but the alfredo sauce itself was not good. It was bland and lacked flavor. I took a few bites of the dish and the rest I asked the server to take back. I even asked if the person I was with wanted it and he didn't, he said it wasn't good and lacked seasoning. Upon receiving our check, we realized we were charged more for our appetizer than what was listed on the specials menu. At this point, we were already there for quite some time and just wanted to leave so we didn't make a fuss.

We had tiramisu which was a huge piece and really good, it's light and flavorful. Not overly sweet. My only complaint was the chicken parm grinder, not sure what it was but it was really bland, and it got lost in the bread. We had the garlic bread with heirloom tomatoes which was also very tasty. Overall as usual really good and will go back, might not try the sandwich again but the meals/apps/dessert were all on point

I've known about this place for a while, and a friend reminded me that they recently changed locations. We were seated in the bar area at a high table and were given two menus: a happy hour menu that lasted until 6 PM and their regular menu. We figured we'd order a few things off of their happy hour menu while it was still going on, then move on to the regular menu after 6 PM, since we knew we'd be there for at least a couple of hours. We ordered a shrimp appetizer, gnocchi, fries, wine, and a white Cosmo to start. My absolute favorite was the grilled shrimp appetizer, even though the other two were very good as well. My friend's favorite was the gnocchi. From the regular menu, I ordered the ham and cheese croquettes and she ordered the regular cheese croquettes since she is vegetarian. We loved those as well. These four tapas were enough to serve as our dinner and we didn't have to order anything else. The service was fantastic and I thought that everything was priced very well. I liked that there was a parking lot right next-door. A friend met us. Later on for a final drink and mentioned that he liked this new location better than the old location. I would definitely return and try different tapas. Their entrées also looked very good. I really like this location because you can walk around and do other things after dinner in the area.

Service in the bar area and in the dining area were both wonderful. Both the waitress and bartender were awesome! I liked that the menu had items labeled gluten free. Always makes it easier. It was 3 of us that came out to celebrate my birthday and 2 of us ordered an entree and our other friend ordered tapas. We were all very happy with it. I had the grilled salmon and it was perfect! Since we got there a bit early we had enough time to order from the happy hour menu so we ordered Grilled Shrimp and Escargot and drinks of course. I love that they have a tray of desserts to showcase! Makes it easy or hard to choose from because they all look so good! I must say prices were good, service was wonderful, food was delicious! We all agreed we would go back!

The new booth was great, but there was no table set up until we asked for utensils and napkins. Water tasted chlorinated. After ordering the food arrived quickly.. too quickly, and should have been spaced out; drinks and bread, appetizers, and main course. Food was piping hot! Too hot to enjoy and burned mouth, making the taste unenjoyable until cooled. Soup was boiling in crock bowl. Someone should be checking the temperatures in the kitchen, before sending it out to be served. Appetizer was served without small side plates and had to ask for them. The added flower was a nice touch, but taste of food was hit or miss. White ventilation vents appeared dirty on the walls, and were mounted high up on the wall in the main dining area. Someone should clean them. Sorry, but I think this restaurant could better. It was my first time going there, and would consider going back knowing that my concerns were addressed with staff and corrected. Locals love this restaurant. Unfortunately, my visit was not the best.

My family came here recently during the first week of Aladdin theme and the kids were over-the-moon happy. They couldn't stay seated too long because they wanted to explore anf take pictures of the Aladdin decorations which was so thoughtfully layedout with so much detail. Brittany was our waitress and she was amazing as a server and a photographer! She helped my family take many pictures during our short stay here. I believe if you are a family of 4, you ca. stay for 2 hours. We stayed the whole 2 hours and did not feel pressure to leave. Note that even if you have younger kids (I have a 4 and 7 year old) you will have to order entree per person even if your kids dont eat that much. Consider it an admission fee which I still think is worthwhile. We live in NYC and we drove here just for this restaurant. The food however isnt the best but it isnt bad neither. So for the food I would rate it 3, maybe 3.5 stars. The decoration was phenomenal so that's an easy 5 star. I would come back here before they take down the Aladdin theme which I was told might be up for about 8-10 months? It was also well decorated for the Fall Season. There were a few employees that were visible at times, but they weren't organized in such a way to provide a typical lunch experience. The person who was working the bar also served as hostess and my server in the main eating area. So I waited a minute or so at the host stand to be greeted while she finished a drink. There was also hammering in the kitchen area for a decent part of my lunch. My server was very nice though and hustled to try to meet everyone's needs. I believe Ideal Tavern recently won the Southington Wing Fest. So I wanted to try the wings. I asked my server what the most popular wing flavors are and she didn't have an answer. I ordered the Sweet Chili Gorgonzola because it looked like the most interesting option. I also ordered an Ideal BLT Burger. The wings and burger were brought together, which I didn't ask for. That obviously defeats the purpose of ordering an app. The wings were meaty and had great texture. They were more glazed than sauced. I thought the Gorgonzola component would be more of a sauce but there were actual pieces of Gorgonzola cheese. The Gorgonzola was good quality. The burger was big and cooked to my requested medium rare. I didn't note any seasoning. The burger came with cheddar, which isn't the best melting cheese. You could tell they tried to melt the cheese, but the cheese broke off rather than stretched when I pulled at the side. The bacon seemed like it was probably high quality, possibly uncured bacon. The texture of it wasn't great for a burger. It was hard in parts and too difficult to chew. I also wish the LT part of the BLT had a bit more focus. I didn't think the Truffle Aioli worked for a BLT either. The fries had kind of a unique wide swoop cut style. I think Ideal Tavern could pay a bit more attention to the details of what makes a good customer experience. They have some good things to work with though. 3.75
