For the love of seafood I need "nothing fancy" anywhere to get a good catch is enough for me!!!! Small restaurant that serves extremely fresh seafood, inside and outside seating is available with a super casual environment. Service is a counter order, grab a drink and sit......beach style!! BYOB is a great addition. The food is delicious however something strange happened both orders we had were fried, with fries....they were served freezing cold.....this is extremely unusual they were definitely cooked, quite possibly a bit over fried.....hmmm! Definitely couldn't eat the cold fries. We also noticed another couple sending their food back, we didn't say anything, it was just a quick bite for us....We will try this place again.....looking forward to HOT seafood!

Tiny little whole in the wall. Formerly kettle bagel building. Fresh mostly fried seafood. They do have a boiled 2lb. Lobster dinnner with fries and coleslaw for $49.00. Also, the owner reported to have specials of soft shell crab. I had the whole bellies. The batter was light and very tasty. We also ordered the fish tacos. The order came with 3 good size tacos, fries, and small coleslaw. Everything was good. The coleslaw was a bit watery but tasted ok. They do have outdoor seating available. The portions are large.

My wife and I went here after reading so much good written about it. We both ordered the daily special which was fried scallops, fries, Cole slaw, chowder and a soft drink. I think it was a good price for we received. The staff was friendly at the counter where we ordered. Our food was delivered promptly with the chowder coming out first. It wasn't really clear what drinks were included but our waitress pointed out the cooler and we picked out our drinks. Our meals were brought over to us along with our plastic ware. When they say nothing fancy, they mean it. The scallops were cut in half, I guess to make it seem like we were getting more. They were lightly fried and tasty. The fries were very thin and crispy. No flavor and reminded us of potato sticks. The Cole slaw was good, served in its little plastic to-go container. The store was clean, inviting and well laid out for the type of "Nothing Fancy" atmosphere it's going for. I'd like to go back and try a non daily special. Maybe my food won't be cut in half in an attempt to make the portion appear larger.

New seafood restaurant in the old kettle bagels location. Its okay. I wish it was great.

Great service and people but certainly lives up to the name. It's "Nothing Fancy". Well fried seafood but lacks flavor. Plenty of places around here that I would go to instead but I feel like they are some good seasonings away from a great place! Prices were fair, portions were good, get some flavor!

Ordered the captain platter to go was cooked good and it came with clam chowder and a soda . They only thing is the French fries were a bit thin . Others than that very pleasing to taste

    $34.95 Whole belly clam platter...

I ordered the whole belly clam platter for dinner to go on the phone. When I went inside to pick up, the restaurant was decorated really cute so I was very anxious to get home and see what was in my bag! It was absolutely disgusting. The clams were completely overcooked! They actually tasted on the verge of being burnt. The fries were undercooked and soggy. The portion was very small. I am so disappointed I gave them a 20% tip. I just threw away $42+. It was literally inedible. I am sad- I was so looking forward to it....

Clam strip platter with a couple pieces of fish.

The clam strips and fish were ultra fresh and perfectly cooked. Everyone was super nice. Will return every time I'm back in CT.

I've known about this place for a while, and a friend reminded me that they recently changed locations. We were seated in the bar area at a high table and were given two menus: a happy hour menu that lasted until 6 PM and their regular menu. We figured we'd order a few things off of their happy hour menu while it was still going on, then move on to the regular menu after 6 PM, since we knew we'd be there for at least a couple of hours. We ordered a shrimp appetizer, gnocchi, fries, wine, and a white Cosmo to start. My absolute favorite was the grilled shrimp appetizer, even though the other two were very good as well. My friend's favorite was the gnocchi. From the regular menu, I ordered the ham and cheese croquettes and she ordered the regular cheese croquettes since she is vegetarian. We loved those as well. These four tapas were enough to serve as our dinner and we didn't have to order anything else. The service was fantastic and I thought that everything was priced very well. I liked that there was a parking lot right next-door. A friend met us. Later on for a final drink and mentioned that he liked this new location better than the old location. I would definitely return and try different tapas. Their entrées also looked very good. I really like this location because you can walk around and do other things after dinner in the area.

Service in the bar area and in the dining area were both wonderful. Both the waitress and bartender were awesome! I liked that the menu had items labeled gluten free. Always makes it easier. It was 3 of us that came out to celebrate my birthday and 2 of us ordered an entree and our other friend ordered tapas. We were all very happy with it. I had the grilled salmon and it was perfect! Since we got there a bit early we had enough time to order from the happy hour menu so we ordered Grilled Shrimp and Escargot and drinks of course. I love that they have a tray of desserts to showcase! Makes it easy or hard to choose from because they all look so good! I must say prices were good, service was wonderful, food was delicious! We all agreed we would go back!

Anthony Jack's ... it's like home, on steroids! It feels like family in here. And that's an awesome vibe. This place isn't for blue hairs only. Being I was here today for lunch, it was a younger crowd, along with children of the younger crowd. This was really nice to see Meeting great friends from Southington here for lunch, even though there are other choices, Anthony Jack's is a solid local favorite. Not only for me, but for the many. Today I was in the mood for a burger, and I ordered the $13 burger which arrived cooked medium, along with lettuce, tomato, and red onion. This was all served on a wonderful fluffy soft fresh roll. Chef chose a great roll to serve this burger on. The hamburger patty was not the frozen type cheap stuff; this was fresh ground beef, and hand formed. A quarter pound it seemed, and grilled with a nice charcoal flavor to it. It was very juicy and hit the spot. Also included with crispy well seasoned french fries and a little salad with house dressing. For $13 this was an excellent value. Our server, Brianna, was very very cheerful knowledgeable of the menu, and of course, very attentive to our needs. To say our service was perfect would be an understatement. I wish other food establishments had servers like Brianna. She's really that good. Restrooms, of course were clean, as usual. Parking was a breeze out front, but there are also many parking spaces at the rear of the restaurant and utilize the restaurant's back entrance. It was nice to come back home. And it was just as nice to return to Anthony Jack's. Anthony Jack's .. until I see you again, you left me with a smile and full. Upon arriving we'd realized we'd eaten at this restaurant before (when it was in a different location) and eaten in this building before (when it was a different business). Caesar salad appetizer was excellent. Kids Mac and cheese was maybe one of the best Mac and cheeses we'd ever had, kids or not. And it was great as a pizza topping. My wife and I split a wagyu burger and The Craft Pie. The burger we believe we got someone else's, it was missing the espresso aioli and prosciutto jam. It wasn't until we finished it that we realized it was way different than we expected. The pizza was excellent however. As I walked through the front doors, I noticed kegs alongside on the floor. This was kind of a turn off, kind of reminds me of a dive bar. So my mentality kicked in that we were going into a dive bar serving food. I kinda get the sketchy feeling. Once we were seated, and menus placed, we were served iced water A few minutes later, the server came back and took our order. My friend ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and some string french fries. I ordered the 1/2 smoked chicken, which came with two sides. I chose the rattlesnake beans and the creamy macaroni and cheese. Also include included was cornbread I originally wanted the street corn, as a side, but it was not available. Our lunches came quick, and my friend only ate half the french fries and cheeseburger, as she wasn't really turned on by them. The smoked chicken was fairly dry, with a very interesting smoked flavor to it that I can't put my finger on. I eat about 1/3 of it. Left the rest on the plate. The creamy macaroni and cheese was out of bounds top-notch. I could've eaten this all day. The rattlesnake rice and beans were just OK. The rice was cooked pretty good, and was seasoned well. The beans had a weird taste. Now thinking of this side dish, I was hoping for raw onions to be on top, but they were nowhere to be found. It'll be nice if there was chopped raw onions to go with this. The cornbread was delicious. I ate about half of it. It was a generous slice. While the server was fairly attentive, as she only checked in to fill the water glasses and ask how lunch was. She didn't ask us if we wanted a desert or coffee. Being old folks this would've been a great up for us, but it didn't happen. I had to ask for the check. I'm not sure if I would come back. I think this might be a one and done. The vibe just didn't hit it for me. Restrooms were clean. The restaurant was clean; the silverware clean. I don't know. It just was like a funky type layout and those beer kegs kinda sent the wrong tone to me as a guest. Lunch for the two of us was $40 and change and I left a $10 tip. We didn't have any cocktails or mock tails, we didn't have coffee or dessert either. From what I understand, the owner was near the exit when we left, not even a smile or a thank you for coming in...

Welcome to the great stuffed shrimp taste-off of 2021!!…read more In search of the best stuffed shrimp in the area to serve on Christmas Eve, I posted on various Facebook pages to solicit recommendations. Of course, I can't just trust strangers on Facebook, so we did what any self respecting Yelpers would do...we did a trial run of five spots over a two day period, ordering 4 stuffed shrimp from each. We sampled them plain, with lemon, butter, and cocktail sauce, critiquing the size, quality of the shrimp, taste and quality of the stuffing, and overall value for the price. With, of course, photos of both the raw starting point and the cooked final product. Gulf Shrimp was 4th in the line up, but came with numerous recommendations. Upon arrival, I was struck by the horrific rancid smell of decaying fish. Outside!! I mean I know it's a fish market, but are they throwing fish carcasses in the woods?? Upon walking in, the smell was even worse. I wanted to walk out, but we were committed. Now remember, we went to 5 fish spots in two days - none smelled anything like this. We aren't at the docks next to the fishing boats. It's in an industrial area off the highway, and there is absolutely no reason for it to smell like this. I already knew they only sold the stuffed shrimp frozen, which was a major con as I needed to cook it that night. 4 for $28, or $7 each. On the higher end of what we had paid. We decided to try 8 cooked cocktail shrimp as well, as they had some nice large ones. Their fresh seafood selection was extremely limited though. I'm not sure why...I've seen more seafood at a grocery seafood counter than at this dedicated fish market. We get it home, I have to thaw the stuffed shrimp. We decide to eat the cocktail shrimp while we wait. Of the 8, two were not properly cleaned (nasty!) so I had to do that myself. I'd be hard pressed to pay $24.99/lb for cooked/cleaned shrimp that I then have to inspect at home before serving to my guests. That was a huge miss. They were also a bit chewy. Stuffed shrimp was good in size, but the stuffing was extremely fishy to the point where my husband didn't finish his. He ate all the other shrimp in the taste off. I also was reluctant to believe they were cleaned properly after the cocktail shrimp experience. No amount of lemon, butter or cocktail sauce saved these stinkers for us. So in summary, smelly, expensive, mediocre quality. I'd skip Gulf Shrimp and try a different spot instead. We won't be back. Gulf Shrimp came in at #5 out of 5 in the great stuffed shrimp taste-off of 2021.

It is way more spacious than their previous location and nicely decorated. We sat in a nice Modular Half Moon Restaurant Sofa in the back. Felt like I was looking down upon the rest of the guests having dinner. Nice table just felt a bit like we were on display however I still enjoyed as I love the style of these tables. Our waiter I think was new and definitely did not know wine. We asked for a bottle of the Merlot, which he pronounced back to us "Mer-LOT." I couldn't help but chuckle a bit when he left the table. Someone else came and opened the wine for us and when our main server came to check on us, he grazed the side of my glass and freaked, telling us the glasses are $500 each and if he breaks one, it comes out of his paycheck. Ummm what? This stuff we probably should not know! Again, I think he was new, probably not having much experience as a waiter. He definitely needs training on how to pronounce wine! Moving on to the cheese, they used to give you a cheese board with a few different cheeses. It's a bit different now. They give you whipped butter, a few pieces of cheese (last night was Cheddar), roasted red peppers, and whipped goat cheese with a touch of honey on top and some bread. Not sure if this changes/rotates at their new location. We chose not to do the raw bar or appetizer courses (fyi those are extra). For my salad, I chose the Signature Salad (forgot to take a picture of this course). This is where things went downhill for me. I asked for no apples. He said no problem. He did not tell us they ran out of the dried cranberries and caramelized nuts which to me make the whole salad. I used to love this salad at the old location. So, when telling us the specials he did say he "thinks" they had one salmon entree left, but had to check. Restaurants run out of things, and I get it, but take that salad off the menu if you're out of 2 ingredients and the customer asks for no apples. All that we got on our salads was lettuce, gorgonzola and fried potato skins. I feel like I had French fries on top of lettuce. It was awful. Also, I'm the only one that asked for no apples and my boyfriend got the same salad I got with only potato skins and lettuce and gorgonzola so clearly they were running out of things. We then saw other customers getting the same salad lacking main ingredients. For my entree, I got the Heavenly, which was supposed to have a lobster sauce. I couldn't put my finger on what the flavor of the sauce was. It was strange. It wasn't bad, it just didn't really go with the lobster. It had a brown tint to it. The manager came over after we ate and asked us how things were, and I told him about the salad and asked what the flavor in the sauce was. He told us a crab style sauce which made sense. Boyfriend had the filet. He said it wasn't Ruth's Chris good, but it was good. Mashed potatoes were very bland. Presentation was pretty bad. Dessert they get from a third party. I had the flourless chocolate cake which was the best part of the meal. Desserts are where they have improved with the new location. They used to give you petit fours style desserts, and now they give you full size desserts. It was delicious. I really want to like this place more because I like the concept of what they do. I guess on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays the chef creates whatever he'd like for guests for $25 a head. Mystery meals. The manager said that's where the name "Adventures in Eating" comes from. Again, we had come here previously, and I had a problem the last time with the Branzino where the waitress didn't tell me it came as the whole fish. Servers are friendly here, they just aren't top notch. Food is ok.
