King Crab Legs pre-cut for your slurping enjoyment, Potatoes are bomb, Com on the Cob (com?) is as bad as its spelling
    David N.

Food was ok. Liked the appetizer chips, unique shape, taste, and texture. Juice was not watered down and tasty. Hush puppies were a little undercooked and not the tastiest, and we liked the melted butter dipping sauce. We got 1 pound king crab, 1 pound snow crab. Got extra eggs and potatoes. 2 since it was mushy, stinky, and under-done in some spots. Corn was rancid, and we did not eat it. We also didnt finish the crab as we didnt want to get too sick if we got sick chef, just a smidge poisson de crab, s'il vous plait. 4 Service was ok. Pleasant greeting, appetizers and drinks showed up fast, as did crab boils. Not too attentive, had to get attention to refill drink after they walked by an empty glass a few times. We paid up front, as we weren't sure if they would bring the bill or not. 2 Ambiance - low on anything special, but we liked the crocodile at the entry. Bathroom was fine, sub-Target, above Walmart. With many crab boil locations closing down, and freshness being paramount for the steep price, we'll keep visiting our tried & tested spots as we hope for more selection in the future, once the economy and environment decide to chill. Any recommendations? Idk if return spot or not. Very mid, but thats not necessarily the worst thing. (Ninja edit: We are still fine as of this draft, a few days later.)

Fried Clam Strips Basket and Fried Shrimp Basket with Sweet Potato Fries

We don't have seafood boils too often, so it was nice to change up our dining experience with a trip to The Hungry Crab! We did the Combo #3 which had mussels, snow crab legs, and shrimp with potatoes, sausage, and corn. The seafood was all fresh and tasty, and so were our fried shrimp and fried clams strip basked with sweet potato fries. We tried an order of the Cajun wings, which were good, but could've used a lot more Cajun seasoning. Our cocktails were pretty, but had an artificial flavor to them. I appreciated that they had white paper on the tables so that you could feel comfortable making a mess. Service was good, but I did wish they came by to check up on us more often because we didn't have water, and I was looking to have a glass.

I've been coming here since 2018 and the food has been great since then! The service is always great. Servers keep checking in on you ensuring you're enjoying your meal. The ambiance was okay. Music was the perfect sound and I could hear when each party at my table spoke. If you are a seafood lover and loves crab boils I'd suggest getting the special blend sauce. It's very delicious and pairs well with the seafood. For wine lovers I'd suggest getting the kikkoman plum wine. It's on the sweeter side but very delicious!

I am a sucker for steam bags/pots and was thrilled that this was a night out dinner! My brother and sis-in-law and a bunch of their friends gathered around a table and set to figuring out which bag to order. There was an appetizer on the table that I missed out on because I went to the ladies room- dang it. That's ok- I split a fishbowl of a blue cocktail with Tessa and ordered my shrimp and crab legs bag- it came with sausage, potatoes and corn. I admit to being surprised when they set down the bag and nothing else... where is the plate or tray to dump the bag into? Nope- there wasn't one- you eat straight from the bag. Whaaattt??? Alrighty then. I dug in after bibbing up and asking for 8 napkins- everyone else donned gloves. Apparently I ate the slowest- I was talking too much!!! I was the last to finish my seafood. Everything was delicious- the crab snapped perfectly, the shrimp were very good too. I ate everything except the sausage. I was laughing that they allowed the leftover fishbowl to go home! One of the friends couldn't finish and she left with three cups of the drink! Actually- she left with two, because Tessa snagged one for us! Funny when you are in a big group- you don't always pay attention to details like service- I think we got our food pretty quickly- but I wasn't starving and the conversation was good. The server did handle the divided checks like a pro!

Tough decision: Two stars or Three. It was early in the week, daily happy hour specials. We opted for a couple of bar seats. A group of four, another couple, and solo oyster eater at the bar. The friendly bartender offered menus and a list of drink specials. Three dollar draft (deal) & $7 cocktails (fair deal). Happy hour appetizers were enticing, but a meal was on our docket. We ordered a couple of Po Boy sandwiches, one shrimp and one crawfish, in a open roll with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. Both included, soup and a choice of fries (sweet potato x2). Soup, one clam chowder and one gumbo. Hot sauce was readily available. Everything served was clearly pre-fabricated and not freshly made on-site. The establishment was cluttered and presented an unkept persona. This particular location has had a quick turnover in businesses and I'm sure this will also be a victim of poor management and a lack of culinary practices.

I my sister and mom decided to try Happy Crab. Anyone who knows me know that I love seafood. The foodie in me was like let's check this place out. We chose several appetizers the buffalo wings were cooked perfectly and the sauce didn't soften the crispy skin. We also had the dry rub cajun wings #BANGING #JUICY & CRISPY. My sister had The Hungry Bomb and my mom had ordered the Top Shelf Long Island she couldn't drink she stated it was to strong so I finished it for her. Please drink responsibly as there drinks are strong. My mom had the fried crab cakes with sweet potatoe fries and the bread for her crabcakes were soft like a marshmallow soooooo gooood The fries were sweet and salty. My sister had the fried Seafood Basket everything looked really good. Fried Whiting, jumbo shrimp & fried oysters. The fried fish was season to perfection...and the seasoned French fries were banging everything was fried perfectly. I had the crab boil with garlic butter and spicy for my heat level. I had wild caught shrimp & crawfish with snow crablegs & corn on the cob and potatoes. My crablegs were sweet and the prawns were succulent and my corn was sweet and boiled perfectly. I had so much food left and that makes me happier then a crab claw. It was definitely worth $64.00. The music and ambiance was nice music from late 80's early 90's I was jamming to the music while I ate my food. Please make your way to this establishment it met all my points. It was phenomenal the waiters were friendly and knowing I was a Yelper they were so happy. So when your in the West Hartford, CT Elmwood area check out Happy Crab. You will not be disappointed..trust me #FOOFIE4LIFE.

Crawfish, shrimp, and clams all smothered in the Special Blend Sauce!

Having closely followed The Hungry Crab from the moment I heard about its upcoming opening on Facebook, I remember pressing my face to the glass pretty frequently on my drive home - especially when their grand opening seemed to be delayed a few times. Needless to say, my expectations were high for a Cajun seafood boil place in West Hartford (about damn time)! So when the opportunity arose to bundle their grand opening day with a friends birthday, we hopped on the opportunity to check this place out - all 15 of our friends included (which in hindsight was not the best logistical choice). Let's just get the obvious out of the way. Service was pretty slow, and it took a while to get orders taken, for the food to arrive, and to pay the bill - but it was to be expected for grand opening day. With all that out of the way, let's get to the food. For apps we ordered the calamari and fried scallop. The calamari was definitely on the smaller side and fried a bit too much to the point where it was dry. Scallops fared a bit better, large and juicy when bit into - but nothing to write home about. The real star here is the seafood. Our 3 lb bag of crawfish, clams, and shrimp were filled with very large representations of each seafood. The crawfish were massive, and rid of any muddy taste. The shrimp were also large and definitely fresh and juicy. The clams here were the real stars: spilling out of their shells and dripping with sauce. Nothing here was overdone. For the sauce, I would definitely recommend the "special blend." It's a combo of everything and went well with our spice level. My only complaint is that I wanted it to be a bit stronger to penetrate the seafood more. As an add-on, we put pasta in the bag after to sop up all that deliciousness. Please also note that each combo comes with a healthy amount of potato, sausages and corn on the cob. Spiciness level is definitely on the lower end and I would get the "fire" level next time. All in all, I will definitely be back - with a smaller group and at a less busy time. I am glad more places like these are opening here in WeHa and I will be rooting for their continued success!

This food truck was parked at the Gastro Park in West Hartford on a Saturday. I am a fan of lobster…read moreso I was excited to try them out. There were plenty of lobster dishes on the menu; from lobster and hot dog, lobster grilled cheese, lobster roll, and more. There were dishes up to $50 plus dollars. My husband had the lobster and hot dog, he said it was delicious. I had the lobster and shrimp grilled cheese. There were plenty of chunks of lobster and shrimp. The grilled cheese was loaded and cheesy, it was better than I expected. I am a fan! The fries were crispy and the people working there were nice. If you're a lobster fan and see this food truck, I highly recommend.

Tucked right on the water, it's a peaceful, no frills seafood shack where you can sit outside, watch the boats glide by, breathe in the salty air, and let the day slow down. It's New England summer at its absolute best. Everyone talks about their famous lobster rolls (and for good reason because people travel far for them), but I'm a clam chowder girl through and through. And let me tell you: Lobster Landing has the best clam chowder I've had anywhere. It's creamy, fresh, loaded with clams, and the corn is sweet and crisp like it was just shucked that morning. The vibe here? Super laid-back. Pretty sure it's BYOB, and people come prepared. The picnic tables are almost always full, but somehow there's always a seat when you need one. The staff is always smiling, and it never feels rushed. Just chill. If you're looking for the perfect coastal stop this summer, this is it. Bring a friend, bring a drink, bring your appetite, and prepare to fall in love with Connecticut shoreline dining. If the line is around the corner, slather on the SPF and catch a tan. It's worth the wait!

Nice location and staff but spotty food…read more Came here on recommendation by a friend. Made the trek out to try some authentic Portuguese food. They were prepping for a big event when we came, so they were a bit distracted when we came in. They offered us seating at the patio or the bar and we opted for outside. Our server for the nice was very nice but clearly stretched thin. She tried to check in frequently but ended up only really dropping by a few times through the night. We get a gambit of items. The garlic steak bites, the mussels with chorizo, the picaha and get the saffron rice and salad as our sides. Food comes out quickly, along with some bread for the table. Very crunchy bread, butter was cold but easy enough to massage to make spreadable. The steak bites and mussels came out first. The mussels were cooked, but the dish was really lacking flavor. You got chicken stock, the smokiness of the chorizo, and the veggies. That's all the flavor you got though, no real seasoning and very basic flavors. It really needed salt. The steak bites were pretty good. Kind of a little open faced Philly cheesesteak crostini, but with untoasted bread. Flavors were solid but also lacking seasoning. Then we got our entree, and the thought was there but it was very much lacking. Meat was unseasoned, overcooked (probably because they threw a cooked steak onto a sizzle plate which took it right over the edge of done) but it did have a wonderful charcoal bitterness which was a welcome choice. Instead of asking for a new one (steak was tender, just well done) we asked for a sauce. They took 5 minutes to make a scratch sauce for us. A mushroom type gravy, which was the highlight of the meal. All the flavor that was missing from the other dishes brought to the forefront, with a strong emphasis on salt and acid to really pop the flavors of the meat. I really enjoyed the sauce. It showed that the kitchen can put out good food, it just was too focused on the event to put up a good showing. It was a shame, but it's good enough to try again some day. Pricing was reasonable for the quality, it's possible to get a good meal here, but your experience can vary.
