I have a lways loved this place and used to visit regularly, however have not been here for almost a year due to Covid--and decided to get a seat at the bar and have some dinner...ohhh myyy what a bad decision---I don't even know where to begin.
For starters the clientele has completely gone ghetto. Lord have mercy--It resembled the crowd you see all gathered together outside of a Valero gas station in the hood hollering obscenities and smoking dope. Toddlers screaming and running around the bar area and jumping on the booths while trying to reach over the dividing wall (just insanity) while the parents (who are reeking of nasty smelling weed/pot) --they all just sit there and act like its no big deal to have their kids running around the bar like smelly chickens--I seriously thought I was at some dive hood rat bar for a minute. The look on the bartenders and servers faces was priceless. Yep, the gangsters have taken over J.Alexander's. Scary, yes very scary crowd.
Now to the food. Awwwwwful. I ordered the Alex salad. It used to be delicious, now it is bland and missing vegetables such as tomatoes and zucchini..etc, not to mention the lack of cheese. Croutons were beyond stale-dressing was bland--just really a bad-bad salad. I also ordered the Rattlesnake pasta with bread. Woops....never got the bread? Perhaps they used it all to feed the chickens! Annnd now to the Rattlesnake Pasta....which was disgusting---all clumped together like mush. Perhaps that's how they serve it in prison to the inmates--which is why this particular crowd of vagrants thought it was tasty. The peppers were all but missing. The few I found were completely gooey as was the pasta. It looked like a big clump of oatmeal and potatoes churned up and plopped in a plate. I handed it to the server who smelled it. Thank God I did not try it. The chicken had a bad odor and was rancid. The server looked embarrassed and kept apologizing. She kept offering me another entree....however I kinda had enough. She informed me that apparently they use the old left over chicken to use for the pasta?? Now the price went up $3 --which would be fine except the portion was cut in half?
I do not mind paying more for fine dining. I regularly travel to Vegas, NYC, Chicago, Miami etc. and pay so much more to dine out and never--ever worry about the cost of a meal--and I enjoy tipping well. I hate to leave this horrible review--but I was just totally blown away at how trashy this place has become.
Ambiance=F.....Food=F.....Service was delayed and I was ignored (felt so bad for the employees that had to deal with this crowd of low class termagants).
The place was crowded and there was definitely not enough employees to handle the guests--so I felt like I shouldn't bother the wait staff for anything because they all seemed extremely stressed and on edge--as no one was smiling. Furthermore I was absolutely shocked to see all these low-class patrons that were seated around me were not tipping the bartenders/servers....and WOW, now completely understand why no one may not want to work here.
There was a nasty man who resembled a pimp sitting next to me, ohh my how he reeked of weed, his bill was $58 and get this...he leaves a $1.35 tip---the bartender should have thrown it back at him. Total piece of trash. All this bum did was run the bartender ragged and his nasty-you know what-leaves a $1 tip. His server was wonderful and he leaves her a lousy buck---I was appalled--Stay at home crack head if you cant afford to eat out--as no one needs your $1 tip--- Never ever saw such a loathsome crowd of indigents. I should have stayed at home as I had planned---Honest to God---How these hood rat--scumbag--bunch of degenerates have ruined this wonderful restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere but here. read more
