I've been going here for 10-15 years for breakfast. I always get the same, over-easy eggs, crispy hashbrowns, ham and rye toast. I've rarely had any issues with the food. It's usually the wait staff... They always get the eggs just right and I've never been served a broken yolk (are you listening other breakfast places?). Over-easy eggs don't have broken yolks. Their crispy hashbrowns are just that, crispy! They're not gray or half cooked potatoes. The toast is made of high quality rye bread (Schwebel's?) with plenty of butter (and it's always perfectly toasted). THE HAM!!! Oh my god, the ham! This isn't some awful ham roll, no no! It's a slice from an actual ham! Real HAM! I was told it's Dearborn ham and I'd bet that it is. If you're not familiar, Dearborn makes great stuff. So, my issues... Not sure, but the coffee seems like it changed. It's weaker now and lacks the flavor from the coffee I remember from the past. They also stopped garnishing the plates with a slice of orange. I LOVED that slice of orange. Finally, the wait staff. They have some great waitresses but every once in a while, I get one that really doesn't know how it works. Because the server can really screw up a meal, I've avoided going back for months at a time. One time the waitress brought everything except the toast. I started eating the ham and potatoes. By the time she brought the toast, the eggs were cold and I couldn't eat them. She still charged my though. Didn't go back for a year, I swear. It's really important to always bring the complete meal. If the toast chef was asleep at the wheel and the entire breakfast becomes ice cold, have the line re-fire the order. It's not the customer's fault. Anyway, it's a nice, family place. Things usually go well, but there are those times... Oh, the place gets crazy busy on weekend mornings, especially with the after church crowd, so go early or plan on a wait. read more

Clean basic diner. The breakfasts are large portions however nothing exciting. Asked for over medium eggs and got over easy with some uncooked white. Sausage & pancakes good. I thought it was unusual that my friend got a ham and cheese omelette and the price is listed but at the very bottom and tiny print they have extra charge for cheese? That's very odd seems like they should just change the price of the omelette. No up charge on the eggs just on the cheese.(even though it's actually supposed to be already included) I would like to have seen some kind of latte or cappuccino available. Maybe tomato juice or blueberry muffin or something with avocado. someone else in our party said that they would like to have seen a breakfast sandwich. Nothing really to bring me back. This is a busy, friendly local restaurant with an expansive menu with a little something for everyone. I have tried their spaghetti and a chicken pita. The spaghetti was pretty basic but the noodles were well cooked and the sauce was fresh. The chicken pita could have been a little better. The tomatoes were rather dried out little cubes and there was a ton of onion that I had to remove because so much overpowered the flavor of the sandwich. The tzatziki sauce that came with the sandwich was underseasoned in my opinion but it did add moisture to the sandwich. The server was attentive and made sure our glasses were filled with water and that we had everything we needed as we ate. Prices are reasonable and service was pretty quick each time I have been here, with plenty of staff available to assist diners. read more

The restaurant is always clean and the staff are usually friendly and very attentive. This visit we had breakfast which was served hot in a timely manner. There's not a bad item on the menu. We love coming to red star on a Sunday morning or after a busy day of school and work when we are just too tired to cook or have a little bit of time between activities of the day. The staff is always super friendly and the portions for the prices are great. I actually enjoy the dinners and lunch more than the breakfast because a lot of their stuff is homemade (sauces, soups). The breakfast is typical good breakfast like you make at home, the country skillet is delicious though . Our families favorite American food joint in the area. HUGE portions but reasonably priced. The food is delicious and staff are friendly. Especially, the breakfast special for only $4.29..2 eggs, 3 bacons, choice of hash browns with bread or two huge pancakes! Only a couple of items to pass are the onion rings and pies. Been here a few times. Pretty standard fare for a diner. Have never had any real issues with this place until today. The food was good. I had a burger and onion rings and the girlfriend had eggs, pancakes and bacon. All good tastewise. The issue today was two fold. First our server seemed more interested in chatting with her regulars and people she knows. Kind of a pet peeve of mine. My money spends like theirs. The second issue was the speed. My wife and I escaped quarantine for a little drive about and ended up in Temperance. Seeing an open place to eat, which for a Sunday is a rarity, we pulled in, masked up, and went inside. It was clean and well styled for a family diner. The staff was on the ball and didn't leave us hanging for a menu, a refill or the check. My wife had a hamburger with fries and I had a bacon cheeseburger with a cup of cabbage soup. What came out to us made our day. The soup was savory and salty, the way a good cabbage soup should be and frankly, I didn't use the spoon. Tip it up and watch it go down! The burgers were amazing. Hand formed 1/2 pound Angus burgers with tons of toppings and a buttery soft bun. This thing was thick! Truly, it was one of the best hamburgers I've had in months and months, and not just because of the pandemic. The fries were seasoned well and crispy golden on the outside and fluffy potato goodness on the inside. (They came home with us.) You get a HUGE portion for the price. Been here a few time over the last few weeks first time was great. Second time was eh, third time was some where in the middle. This place is a quick drive from Northern Toledo. Nice little scenic drive over. The diner has very quick service and a fairly large selection. I was content with the offerings, as they had fish sandwiches. However, I think their menu is limited for vegetarians. The decor is rather bland, the walls are a casino or butter yellow with lots of blank space despite there being framed pictures everywhere. Nevertheless, there are some cutesy Americana pictures hanging which are a nice touch. This diner is good for a hometown feeling meal, just not one that seems to stand out out very much. Oh, and it has a semi-private large party area. I haven't seen that at family establishment before, it could be very useful for community groups. A definite plus! read more

A Diner is not the place to impress a date, but for a good meal, reasonably fast, this is the "go to" restaurant in the area.
