Chicken taco in pita bread with fries and a side of Greek dressing
    Susan S.

The ambiance at BJ's is upscale bar & grill, but on the casual side. It's located near Franklin Park Mall, so it probably attracts some shoppers. I was there with a group of people after seeing a movie at the mall. I had a chicken taco in pita bread. It was served with a tasty pico de gallo that was very fresh and delicious. There wasn't a lot of chicken, but what was there was good. Our server was very nice and efficient but it took a while for our food to come out. The person seated across from me received the wrong order and didn't receive the correct order until everyone else had finished their meals. She wasn't charged for the meal, fortunately, but it was a shame that she had to sit there while everyone else was eating. Overall, I would return and recommend BJ's.

Visited BJ's for a birthday. No complaints from anyone at the table! Fast and friendly service and delicious food. Inviting atmosphere. I tried everything on the table besides the double bone in pork chop (which was HUGE). However, it was tender yet cooked thoroughly. Both steaks were tender and flavorful. The salmon was fresh and as good as it looks in the picture!! The Jambalaya is very flavorful and spicy. Shrimp scampi, great sauce. I even started putting the sauce on my mashed potatoes and vegetables, lol! My tipsy snowman drink (amazing). I had two. If this drink is called something else outside of the holiday season, please let me know so I can continue to order it. Thanks, BJ's! It's always an enjoyable time!

Master of nothing. BJs is a chain. The Texas and California locations are a little better. They have a large menu but nothing is consistently good. I just got some chips n queso this last time. Clumps of cheese like it wasn't cooked all the way. Got a California flatbread to go last month. Had to put it back in the oven at home. It was doughy. The service at the bar or at tables is good. Every time I have gone it's 3/4 empty unlike other locations which are packed from happy hour on. I really feel like they need to cut the menu in half and specialize in something instead of having a little bit of everything. If I'm in the neighborhood I would stop by for maybe an appetizer and a beer but that's about it.

It's not that BJ's is bad, because categorically it is not. But it's also not good, at all. Full stop. Not good. Completely generic, the menu has the traditional American-chain "try to please everyone" approach, with pizza, pasta, burgers, salads, globally focused apps.... you name it, they have it, and all of it is average at best. None of the dishes shine from a flavor perspective, and everything is weirdly bland. That said, all items are technically prepared with textbook accuracy that makes you wonder what was lost in translation, but can likely be blamed on low quality, off season ingredients. With a staff that offer up welcoming smiles and eye contact that make you wonder if they know something you don't, you'll notice a dozen or more servers and staff swarming around the floor, as you find yourself curious where the heck your own server went. During a recent visit, we only saw ours twice, once to take our order and once when I waved her down with my credit card. Long story short, avoid if you're in the mood for good food and a memorable experience.

    Dubai chocolate espresso martini

bartender did amazing on the martini, however when we ordered a beer we regularly get it was the wrong beer poured, we were told to deal with it as it was the "correct beer poured." it was not. server was barely attentive and the new dessert barely had any toppings. looked nothing like the photo. wont be coming back. usually love bjs.

I was pretty impressed by the beer list, BJ's brand, locals, great regionals, etc.

We went again on Saturday. WOW!…read more Started with a Martini for my dining partner and iced tea for me. Both were great. The waiter (Josh, a five-star waiter if ever there was one) really knows how to take care of his customers. He really knows the menu, can explain the dishes along with their components and what makes them unique and paces each course perfectly. He even asked if we were BOTH done before any dishes were removed from the table. Nothing looks worse than one person still eating while the rest of the table has no plates in front of them. We started with the roasted carrot salad. The carrots were perfectly roasted and chilled with and amazing tahini "paste" and radicchio, perfectly dressed with a lemon vinaigrette. OUTSTANDING!!! Seriously, this could have been my entire meal! The tahini paste is great, and I made it once while making a tahini dressing for roasted Brussels sprouts. Tahini naturally gets thick (paste like) when liquid is added. To make the paste, just stop adding liquid to it and stop mixing until it gets smooth again. Seriously, delicious. We both ordered the chicken schnitzel for our entrees. It comes with a really nice side salad consisting of mixed greens, dressed again with a very mild vinaigrette. My only quibble (and it's a really small one) is I would have liked the schnitzel to be a bit thinner. That said, it was perfectly cooked, not at all dry and the thickness is up to the creator of the dish. I don't think there's a "standard" for this (ha, ha - get it!). Great breading and very tasty. The dessert... Again, had to go with the sticky toffee pudding! If this is on the menu, there's no way I'm not going to order it. GOD, it's just a perfect ending to a great meal, well, that along with a pot of French Press coffee. All in all, the meal came to $108.00 excluding the tip. Expensive, but WORTH EVERY PENNY! I spent that much a few weeks ago (maybe more) on a really awful meal/experience at a different place. You'll have to read my old reviews to figure that one out! Anyway, this place treats their employees like they actually appreciate them. They took them on a cruise! Of all the restaurants I used to work at, the best thing I ever received was a shift meal or maybe a cold beer because I was still at the place cooking apps at 1:00 in the morning and the manager wanted to go home but felt bad because I couldn't leave. Thanks for the glass of Miller Lite draft, Mr. Chi-Chi's manager guy! Everyone in the place, from the servers to the hostesses, to the bus folks and the floor manager had smiles and a sense of graciousness and appreciation to each and every customer. Try to find that at any other restaurant in Toledo. The food is top notch, made with very unique recipes and techniques you're not going to find anywhere else. The dining room and restrooms (at least the men's) are clean. I never had to ask for a refill on my iced tea or water. New silverware was brought before each course was served. The old plates were removed from the table after the staff asked if it was OK to do so. Proper training in procedure and etiquette is obvious. Again, just a great meal in every way - 10 out of 10! Can't wait to go back.

After visit #2, I'm not sure there will be a visit #3 anytime soon. The consensus among friends -- confirmed now by our own table -- is that everything is too heavy. The first few bites bring the oohs and the ahhs. By halfway through the plate, the ughs and the oofs begin. The menu reads as thoughtful and dialed in. Our table of four ordered very different entrees -- seafood, steak, pasta, salad -- and somehow every plate arrived at the same destination: rich, savory, dense. No acid. No brightness. And strangely, blue cheese and garlic had crept into every single bite, as if the kitchen could not bear to let a dish leave without them. A meal that should have pleased everyone left most of us with a mild remorse. I felt surprisingly ill for hours afterward -- not because anything was unsafe, not because it wasn't delicious, but because it was simply too much. Too rich. Too savory. The body, it turns out, asks for contrast, and we had not been given any. The service, on the other hand, is STILL outrageously good. Without question some of the best in the region -- better than nearly every higher-end room in town. But the atmosphere is stuffy, the food is one-note, and high quality is not the same thing as good execution. My wife's "medium plus" steak arrived extremely rare. My salmon was undercooked. At this price, that is inexcusable. Still -- the service. The service is something to behold.

We didn't realize it at first, but Chef Marcel's wife was our server. How lucky is she to eat so well on the regular?! She was very gracious and patient in tending to our table and answering our questions. Very lovely and down-to-earth! While Chef Marcel is known for visiting with customers, he was too busy iIn the kitchen when we were there. We started with the stuffed large portobello mushroom as an appetizer. Go to their website and simply click away on you preferences. It's really easy and worth the expended effort. The staff was very nice and accommodating. We arrived and were quickly seated. Water was brought to the table, but without ice. I asked for ice and pretty quickly received some. I would suggest always serving ice water! Warm tap water isn't very palatable to most folks. First impressions of the dining room... So, it's a fairly small room without carpet. No tablecloths or individual table lamps (this doesn't bother me, but some may find this type of dining without such refinements unacceptable). I believe in keeping costs down. Take the savings and use them for buying better ingredients. Oh, a plate of bread with an absolutely delicious compound butter was served when the water was served (a little amuse-bouche). The butter was a lemon, garlic, basil combination that was outstanding!!! Everyone loved it. We split a bottle of wine (no cocktails, sorry). That was fine. They have a nice, simple wine and beer menu. We also ordered Appetizers. If you try any of the apps, try the bang bang shrimp! Better than anything you'll get at the Japanese Steakhouse. Seriously, next time I go back, I'll probably order this for my entrée along with the Caesar salad, and more of that delicious bread! Our other app was the calamari. It was served with marinara, and perfectly cooked. Both great appetizer choices. For our entrées... I ordered the halibut, and what an amazing job chef Marcel did with it! It was sauteed with some small diced vegetables and capers, served over polenta. Maybe a bit too done, but that's just me. I like my fish to be more on the rare side. I'm not faulting anyone for this because I never specified. It was still a great, creative and delicious meal. Two of my dining partners ordered the chicken paillard. Unfortunately, they said these were overcooked and too dry to really enjoy. They both looked delicious though. Another person ordered the salmon and said it was delicious. Our 5th person ordered the mixed green salad with duck. So this was something that really intrigued me as I love duck, and rarely see it. The salad greens/bean sprouts were very fresh, really nice. The duck was sliced very nicely, perfectly cooked, but cold. The temperature of the duck is intentional. I think it would be a better dish if served warm, but that's just me. It also lacked flavor. A nice Asian soy based dressing would have been perfect with this. Soy sauce, rice vinegar, scallions, garlic, ginger, sesame oil... Anyway, we ended with a shared piece of carrot cake and coffee. The carrot cake was out of this world, and it has to be good for you since it's made out of a vegetable. The coffee is french press and should have steeped longer, but we all love strong coffee. We'll definitely go back! Nice, hidden little spot with some great food and staff. Not too expensive, clean and an easy destination.

Upon entering, there's a long bar where many people gather to sample various wines. There's also an extensive offering of potential gifts if you choose. Yes, pricey, but fun to browse. The overall ambiance is what I would describe as upscale casual, but you can also dress up as much as you'd like. It's a sophisticated and yet comfortable environment and the staff members we encountered were very welcoming and attentive. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our server, Taylor, was the absolute best!!! We started off with Lemon Drop Martinis that were perfect. (I took lots of pics but not of the martinis because we were thirsty!) We had narrowed our entree selections of salmon down to two and Taylor gave us her honest opinion of what she preferred while also telling us that the other option was very popular. Both my friend and I ordered the lighter salmon entree that was served with lemon and lots of vegetables. (I had previously had the miso soy glazed salmon with coleslaw, which was amazing.) I did not regret trying the lighter version of salmon with the vegetables and finger potatoes. The combination was perfect and the salmon was excellent and not at all fatty. Btw, the calorie count was 570 for this entree... Gotta love that! Since my friend reminded Taylor that we were celebrating my birthday, she brought out truffles with a candle. It was a very sweet and special way to end the evening- even though neither of us could eat another bite. It was boxed up and I put it in the fridge to share with my mom in the next day or so. While my experience at Cooper's Hawk sometimes varies between a 4-5 star experience, tonight was definitely 5 stars! Highly recommend!

We are grateful for her ability to read the room. We tried the caprese flat bread for our appetizer. The bread is thin and crispy and toppings were flavorful but not overpowering. It was a light and enjoyable starter. The balsamic could have been stronger for our taste but overall, the dish was good. Our server brought out "complementary fresh baked pretzel bread". It looked lovely and had a crisp outer shell but was frozen in the middle. After completing our appetizer, we waited 40 minutes for our food to arrive to the table. Our server informed us that the short rib risotto I had order was the hold up as the short ribs were "just coming out of the oven". When our meal arrived the presentation was lovely; however, my "short rib" which was actually a large, tough, lukewarm piece of chuck roast served over mashed potatoes with grilled vegetables (not mushroom risotto) was less than I had hoped. On the bright side, those roasted veggies were top notch and the gravy which was necessary to choke down the tough meat was really quite tasty. Unfortunately, my husband's steak was also overcooked. He agreed that the vegetables were the best part of the meal. We skipped dessert as we had experienced enough disappointment for one night. The ambiance was nice, our server was pleasant and knowledgeable, the food just didn't make the grade.
