Our first time for our daughters Birthday, ache and our son in law had been a few times. FANTASTIC covers it all . Had the shrimp appetizer as my dinner as it is the best shrimp I've tasted. Complimentary carrot cake for the birthday girl was wonderful, moist , warm and delicious. Wife had salad and added chicken which she raved about . Son in law also had the shrimp. Drinks were excellent. Will be back as we now have a new favorite place, we live in Sun Lakes so a little drive but worth it. read more

Let me start by saying my husband and I only went here because it is on Resy and we could use our AMEX Resy credit here and menu had plenty of diverse choices. We were looking forward to a night out and took a ride share so we could enjoy cocktails without worrying. Turns out the cocktails were the only thing worth ingesting that night! Service was not great. The server was pushing us to order ASAP and was semi attentive during that time but clearly she was done waiting on us once she got our order in. We asked her to come back a few times as we were leisurely reviewing the menu and enjoying our drinks. We started with the grilled bread which was soaked in butter and charred so badly that it tasted like charcoal. The bread was drenched in butter to the point of it coating the roof of your mouth, not in a pleasant way. The almonds and olives were an odd accompaniment but I needed the almonds to try to erase the taste of char from my mouth. About two bites into the bread, another server tried to bring an additional order of bread to the table and acted shocked when we said it wasn't ours and we already received ours. Our order was literally sitting on the table still so it couldn't have been ours. For main dishes I got the veggie burger and my husband got the roasted chicken. I am not a fan of fake meat and did not think that is what I was getting since the menu did not specify beyond meat or whatever brand it was. I should not have assumed it wasn't but I've ordered many veggie burgers and they usually aren't meat substitutes unless specified. To say the least I could barely eat the meal because it was beyond salty. Fries - salty. Burger - salty. I picked around some of the bun and the veggies on the burger but left the rest. When the waitress came to clear our plates (the only time was saw her after ordering) she asked if I wanted to take it home and I said no, it was way too salty and I couldn't eat it. Her response was "I'm sorry, anything else?" I said no so she cleared the plates and brought the bill. She could care less about creating a decent reputation for the restaurant. My husband said the chicken was odd because it was only seasoned on half of it so he picked at it. Also, it is bone in chicken which isn't a big deal but wasn't described on the menu and that's a deal breaker for some. Menu descriptors and staff need a lot of work. There are too many other choices out there to pay the prices at J. Alexander's. I would have been very upset if I had to pay the full $107 for this sub-par meal. read more

The chef's prime rib is so mouth watering I cannot wait to come back just for that. Service was phenomenal from the time I walked in, until the time I left. The restaurant has a light and airy upscale vibe and well attended even at 5 pm on a Tuesday. The menu was varied and has something for almost every taste. The service was impeccable. The food was the STAR OF THE SHOW! WOW! I didn't know broccoli could taste so good. My fish was glorious, and was served with cous-cous, which is not my favorite, but I ate every bit. We were very excited to try this new restaurant! Made a reservation and we were seated right away when we arrived. Ordered drinks and apps. Apps came fairly quickly and drinks came much later...after the apps were all done. Apps were fine but we all felt like we could have bought them frozen at the grocery store and made them at home. Calamari was fine, queso dip was average. Grilled artichokes were not good. Dinner was up next and was similarly disappointing. Filet medallions were chewy. French dip was extremely disappointing- overloaded with fat and the bread was hard. Veggie burger was off too. None of the meals were very warm and fries were cold. The menu is similar to Houston's and Hillstones but the food tastes nothing like it. Hope it gets better! read more

My wife and I went back after her and friends tried it last week so I could see if it was really as bad as they claimed and was not impressed. The Maui steak was one of the toughest cuts of meat I've ever tried, I think I'm still chewing it lol. The Burger was decent but very disappointed in the Steak and her and her friends were also very disappointed the first time they tried it. I had high hopes for a new decent restaurant in this area but I guess it's not this one. Will have to keep going to the Biltmore, Scottsdale and Gilbert for now. read more

I really liked it. I had the braised ribs and let me tell you they were good. The server was very helpful as he recommended the dishes he thought we would like. My husband had the steak med rare with mashed potato's. He was also pleased with his dish. We enjoyed two glasses of gin and tonic and ended the dinner with a bread pudding desert. Our first visit to J. Alexander's and it was a great experience. Our waiter Harrison was top notch- friendly, informative and great eye for service. The bar manager stopped by and chatted. The food was great and our entrees were great size and flavor- got the Cypress salad (wonderful and love the honey mustard dressing) and French dip which beautiful beef nice color and flavor plus a great pile of fries. Went on a busy Saturday night a grabbed a couple seats at the bar. Loved the ambiance. Bartenders were attentive and efficient. Had the ribs and the French dip. Ribs were delicious. There were 4 of us looking to try a new restaurant. J. Alexander's was absolutely perfect. It opened 2 1/2 months ago in a brand new, up-scale building. It was beautifully designed and staffed by wonderful employees who were welcoming and kind. Our sever, Emily, was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. What a very disappointing night of mediocre food when I was hoping for a wonderful dining experience....but it wasn't all bad, just enough to disappoint. The front greeters/reception were very friendly and inviting and our server Skylar was nice...at first then he had a attitude. Well get to that in a bit. The food: Their dinner salmon and salmon salad was pretty good but can't really say their prime rib were. They looked like they were precut and sat out for some time. There was no luster in the meat and looked "dried" out. I had the Maui Steak and I think they could have cut back on the sugar content and the meat was a bit chewy. Now with the service :o( ... Skylar was very nice and friendly at first, THEN he had an attitude when I told him that my steak was MEDIUM when I asked for rare. He told me "but it was cook how you asked for it, medium well". I said "No, I asked for rare". Then he contradicted me by TELLING ME "no sir, you ordered it medium well". WTH !?! Really, arguing with a customer when I know what I asked for since I ALWAYS have my steaks RARE. From then on it went down hill ... we had to ask for water from him TWICE and never got them until we asked the server. Then he would come by twice with a "how's it going for far?"... but with a quick exit. The Drinks: I ordered a rum and coke with a twist of lime in a tall glass .... No lime. My friend ordered a DIRTY martini 3 olives.... NOT! We had to ask the server for the olives and small glass of olive brine to get the drink right. The server was very nice and helpful and we got more attention from him than WHAT'S HIS FACE! We spent $700 at this place and it's just not worth it. I was excited when this restaurant opened up in Chandler. The restaurant has very classy and modern interior. The staff are attentive, friendly and helpful. The food is amazing. It was Saturday 4:15 1/31/26 when we arrived. The hostess could not find our reservation but seating was not a problem. All seemed pleasant then the food arrived. My medium Maui steak was a half inch thick and about 30% fat and way overcooked. It was floating in a sauce that totally overwhelmed the steak. A mountain of potatoes were included. They were good. No one asked if we would like a side dish and we did not think to ask. No bread, no vegetable. Must have been an unusual night since others have written positively. read more

This was our 1st time at this restaurant. It is a nice location with plenty of parking. We had reservations and were seated right away. Ambiance was a cozy feeling. Our waiter James went over the specials and made some recommendations based on our questions about the menu. I chose the babyback ribs with coleslaw and broccoli and my wife chose the steak & fries. We both also had a cocktail which was prepared perfectly balanced. The food tasted excellent the portions were large enough we both took home to go boxes. We also got a dessert to go for later (carrot cake and chocolate cake) which were good as well. James was very knowledgeable about the menu and attentive. We went here with high expectations. We came 30 minutes early sat at the bar and had a drink and everything is wonderful. The drinks were great. The service was great. The atmosphere was perfect. We sat down and ordered some appetizers and drinks. The appetizers came, but no drinks. 35 minutes later our drinks came. I would understand if the place was packed, but it wasn't. Our table of 4 ordered 2 Maui steaks, both were medium well instead of medium rare.. I ordered the steak medallions, mine were over cooked and the sauce was sooooo salty. Again, half of our table didn't have drinks again.we waited 40 minutes.. I don't understand why restaurants have such thin steaks. They should get a thicker steak so it can cook more precise. I know the thinner the steak the bigger it looks on the plate. But that only works if you can cook it correctly We may give it one more try, just to see if this experience is a one off, I hope so.. read more

We visited J. Alexander's for the first time last evening and our experience was wonderful. The food was outstanding: grilled artichoke, Caesar salad and entrees of ribs and steak + fries. The wine was excellent, and the pour was 9 oz. The service was first class with food being delivered beautifully prepared and hot. My wife and I highly recommend J. Alexander's. Disappointed in the quality of the food, especially for the price. The shrimp on the Ceasar salad was cold and tough and not very appetizing and the dressing was disappointing for a Ceasar. The other salad with blue cheese dressing tasted more like ranch than a good blue cheese dressing. The Chili was good. Nice decor but not cozy, service was acceptable. read more

Great new restaurant for the area. Decor is stunning. Servers and management friendly and courteous. Food was excellent. Portions are very large. Our group had Deviled Eggs, Trout, Crab Cakes, Crispy Chicken, Calamari, Palermo Chicken and Prime Rib. Everyone loved their dinner. Because we were celebrating birthdays they comped Carrot Cake for those celebrating. We had to get it to go because we were all full so we haven't tasted it yet. I highly recommend giving them a try. We tried J. Alexander's Chandler store last night and feel the need to share our story. The waitress service was superb and perfectly attentive. The silverware on the table when seated was noticeably spotted and, after ordering, the steak knife placed on the table was crusted with a previous diner's food residue. Cocktails and wines were served timely and were as ordered. The lighting fixtures above the booths should have sparkled, but were filmly and didn't accent a higher-end experience that would seem appropriate. We ordered the house salad, a filet mignon, and a N Y strip. Food quality, presentation, doneness, and portions were spot-on, but the entrees arrived at the table just 2 or 3 minutes after the salad was served, which was awkward for both the server and us. The server made the comment that "the kitchen was really on top of things tonight". We'll be back and give the chain another try with the hope that there's a bit more attention to detail. read more
