A weary traveler arrives and sits down at his favorite bar--Bottleshop48, located at 3318 S McClintock Dr, Tempe, AZ 85282, in the Aldi shopping center. He orders a crisp glass of Bottleshop Water, known to the regulars simply as "water," and rests for a moment as a film begins to play on the main TV. Brad and Angelina appear. It is Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the acclaimed 2005 action/comedy. A small tear rolls down his face; finally, he will be able to enjoy Mr. and Mrs. Smith from start to finish. Finally, his life will have meaning beyond the crude dionysian pursuit of wine, women, and song. Today, he thinks: "my suffering will end: I am free from the banality of the world outside, with a full 2 hours of action/comedy to enjoy, cold drink in hand, hale companions to my left and to my right." It was my first time here w/friends. Great local taproom in south Tempe. A variety of local breweries both on tap and in can/bottle options. A large selection to choose from. Seems like locals frequent this place, and there were a few "regulars" known by name, pop in and purchase to go quantities. We had an eclectic group of drinkers, ordered Revision's Moon Trips on draft, Celestial Artisan Meadery Supernova Rasberry bottle to share, and a Drekker can of Can you feel the PRRRT tonight. We discovered this place because of the 2023 Pub Pass. It was fun to see this taphouse located in a shopping plaza where Aldi, coffee shops, a few restaurants, and some other businesses were. We tried some beers on tap and they were delicious especially if it was a hot summer day. I also tried their wine on one of our visits. They also had a lot of beer to go options, and I believe the price is reasonable. This place felt like a local neighborhood bar because a lot of customers seemed to be "regulars". They were known by names or recognized by faces and greeted with warmth by the bartenders. To be honest, it could feel a bit left out if this were your first time here. I think part of the reason for this was also because the dining area was a bit crowded, which made the atmosphere tight and intimate. They had board games and a separate room for wine lovers. It seemed that they also hosted regular wine club events and some other community events as well. They did not have a kitchen inside but there was a food truck available right outside. This place was dog friendly inside as well, although it could be a bit tight if you have a large dog. read more

This is exactly what a neighborhood beer shop should be! It's small and relaxed, with great beers on tap and in cans/bottles, and they do various events - games, food trucks, yoga!? I prefer hazy IPAs, so I just get whatever hazy is on tap, and have always liked it. They have a great selection of beers in the cooler as well. They also have wine, but I've never even looked at the selection. I come for the beer! It is dog friendly (if your dog is friendly) and they are always welcoming to my giant dog. It's nice to have a place indoors to have a beer with your pup. You can bring or order food to enjoy with your beer, and they often have food trucks. What's not to love about this place! Everyone who works here is so kind and so knowledgeable about beer and wine. Prices are so reasonable. The bar has two rooms and often hosts events like Loteria, trivia, and Bachelor viewing parties. There's almost always a delicious food truck there on Fridays to pair with their extensive beer selection. Dog friendly place too, which we love! The best part of this place though has to be the people. The people who congregate here are welcoming and warm with everyone who comes in. What a lovely place! This is the equivalent of a chuck's hop shop, for anyone from Washington State. You can go in, get beer on tap, buy cans/bottles and drink in shop, at one of the many tables they have, or take a growler/can/bottle home. Great selection of drinks at reasonable prices! EXCEPTIONAL! I have been going to Bottleshop 48 for a few years but not often. I went in today with a list of beers my husband wanted and both gentlemen working were helpful and kind. They found everything on my list for my husband's birthday and my dad for Father's Day. They also helped me get it all to my car. Really wonderful service. About Bottleshop in general. It is a little hard to find if you are only looking for "Bottleshop 48" but follow the beer and wine signs and you'll find it! They have a strong selection of beers including hard to find local selections. There is also a really cool side room with wine but I never make it past the beer! The draft selections are also really varied which I appreciate. My husband likes IPAs but we also know they are likely to have a sour on for me. Highly recommend! read more

We stopped in to Bottleshop 48 for a drink before dinner. I would describe is as a beer/wine store with a tasting room. It was packed on Friday night--standing room only. The crowd was mostly hipsters but there was an age range. There was some kind of wine tasting going on and a promo from a brewery. No one was overly friendly, but when I asked employees about things, they were really knowledgeable. The back bar has draft beer. The bartender was really efficient and got our drink orders right away. We browsed the beer selection, which is organized by style. It's IPA heavy but there's a good bit of everything including a case of sours. You can have an employee open anything and drink it there for an extra $1. We went through the wine selection, which was also decent. I tend towards Barbera and Barolo and they had a couple of both. I felt like most bottles were marked up a couple dollars more than they should have been, but it's probably worth it to avoid a chain. I gathered there also a wine club, but didn't ask about it. There's no food, but there was a food truck outside. Both our neighborhood bars closed within a couple weeks of each other. I've been looking for a replacement. Bottleshop 48 isn't it for me, but I'm glad to know about it to get harder to find beer and wine. read more

Easily my favorite bottle shop in the east valley. Reasonable prices as well. When they have the sitting area open I highly suggest using it. Craft beer selection is top shelf. Year round they keep a good selection of darker beers with the typical IPA selection. Not many places carry baltic porters but I've found them there. Love em. I'm not as well versed in wine but they have a wine bar as well, again when the current restrictions aren't on. The staff is very nice. Very knowledgable. Bottleshop 48 is a very unique beer store that is needed for the Phoenix area. There's a plethora of brews in Arizona itself and they definitely help cut down on the clutter. Cold and not-cold beers and ciders are available from across the state, southwest and some international selections. The evening I stopped by there was an Oregon meadery sampling a couple of their bottles which was a nice addition to my shopping experience. There weren't a lot of staff around to help and answer questions. The beer-tender in the back was helpful in giving a few suggestions and kind of giving a layout of the store and what can be drank at their bar top, but that was about it. Besides him and the meadery rep, no one really came to help me. The beer is fairly well-organized according to style in both the refrigerated and non-refrigerated sections. Too bad though they don't have a better location, it's almost completely hidden from Southern & McClintock. I only discovered them when I had tires replaced at the next-door Discount Tire and walked to a local coffee store in the same strip mall area. read more
