Halibut and chips
Kelcy D.

We stopped in for Ivar's at the waterfront for a quick lunch and were greeted by a long line, but it moved surprisingly fast. The staff did a great job keeping things efficient by calling out to customers in the line to start on each order, and by the time we got up to the cashier, our food was ready within minutes. Talk about efficiency! There's plenty of seating options-outside along the water or under a covered area. We were going to sit outside, but after we sat down, a family came out to feed the birds. The seagulls swooped in, so we moved indoors. While inside was a little less hectic, there were plenty of pigeons hoping for crumbs. Oh well! We still enjoyed our freshly fried halibut and chips. The fish was perfectly golden brown and not overcooked. We love dipping each bite in tartar sauce, and the cashier gladly gave us extra dip. Napkins, malt vinegar, straws, and utensils are conveniently located just left of the cashier for easy access. Looking forward to next time.

We stopped in here for a great midday meal in October while visiting and enjoyed the views of the interior of the restaurant with much to see and also views to the outside through large windows to see water, mountains, boats, etc. The waitstaff were top notch and very attentive and helpful with answering questions. Food orders were taken and fulfilled by kitchen very quickly, piping hot and delicious. I ordered from the Ivar's Classics lunch menu and chose the fried northwest combo of Alaska true cod, surf clam strips, shrimp. and substituted Brussels sprouts for the fries. No complaints, very satisfied! Highly recommended as a top destination if visiting Seattle and appreciate tried-and-true options.

10/10 my favorite clam chowder and fried cod! We ate at the outside storefront after a long day of sightseeing, and it hit the spot. The chowder is perfectly thick, with just the right amount of clams and potatoes. Also can't beat the price! The cod was cooked to perfection, not too dry and lightly battered. We also got the calamari, which was also really delicious. Service was good, staff was friendly and on par with any other fast food type place.

This ranks among the worst fish and chips I've had in Seattle. The food was overpriced and mediocre, there's really not much else to say about it. The service was decent and straightforward, which was the only redeeming quality. Despite the lackluster food, the place was packed with tourists eager to experience a taste of Seattle. There's ample seating both indoors and out, though outdoor diners should be prepared for opportunistic birds that may leave unwelcome surprises dangerously close to your meal. I'd recommend trying elsewhere.

Stopped by Ivar's Acres of Clams and had a mixed experience. The clam chowder was fantastic--rich, creamy, and definitely the highlight of the meal. The Alaskan cod fish and chips, though, were just okay. Not bad, but nothing to rave about either.

Ivars was a miss for me. I got fried calamari, fried oysters with fries, and a cup of clam chowder, but the frying oil tasted musty and it tainted everything -- sad because I love fried seafood. The chowder also skewed a little sweet, which threw me off since I prefer savory-forward chowders. Staff were fine but the food just didn't land. If you love classic clam shack vibes, maybe try it once, but I wouldn't rush back.

Looking for some lunch after taking the water taxi from West Seattle and was in the mood for chowder. We went to the outside ordering spot, and then they have seats in a covered area or along the side of the building outside looking out at the water. Kind of felt like herded cattle when we were in line ordering. One of the guys shouted he wanted our fryer order first then get back in line. I get the reasoning because fish n chips takes longer and we had a mixed order of a fish n chips and chowder. Service was pretty quick that way, though, and by the time we were at the front for our turn the fish n chips were done. We took our food to the side outside to eat, as we wanted to enjoy the pretty day. Unfortunately this restaurant encourages patrons to feed the seagulls, so all while we are eating there are people feeding seagulls, and they are a menace while trying to eat your food in peace, and also watching them poop all over while eating is lovely. The chowder was decent. Nothing to write home about, but not bad either. My husband's fish n chips were good he said, with a good fish to batter ratio. Not too much batter. All in all, the food was ok, but the experience could have been so much better without management encouraging their patrons to feed the seagulls. (There was actually a sign) I was so distracted I actually forgot to take a picture of the food.

Had to come back the very next day.

For my first meal in Seattle was Ivar's was the best decision ever. I ordered a cup of their smoked salmon chowder and a cup of their regular white chowder. I fell in love with both but couldn't stop thinking about their red chowder!!! It was so good we did not take a photo of the first meal. Went back the next morning for another bowl this time of their white chowder. Then again at night for their fish and chips. Let's say, I'll be back just for this!!!

In town with family , who suggested this spot. I try to avoid tourist spots but we were so hungry having just landed. I ordered the fish and chips. This was probably the worst fish and chips I've ever had ! The waitress recommended the beer batter one's. I almost think they were frozen. They were dry and flavorless. The fries were salty and warm. The Caesar salad was good. A little too much dressing. View was spectacular

Cozy waterfront spot with fresh fish and great vibes Visited Ivar's Fish Bar in Seattle and had a wonderful meal. Ordered sourdough, a clam chowder bowl, and the 3-piece Fish 'N Chips--the fish was super soft and perfectly cooked, and the chowder was rich and comforting. The spot definitely feels like a tourist favorite--they even have tour maps near the entrance. The waterfront view is lovely, and the indoor seating is very spacious, with cozy fireplaces and nice decorations throughout, giving a warm, welcoming vibe. They also have a happy hour every day, which is a nice bonus. On top of that, everyone is super friendly, making the overall experience very enjoyable. Overall, a solid spot for fresh seafood with a cozy atmosphere and beautiful views.

Ivar's Fish Bar *June 3, 2025 *11:30am- Tuesday *4.5 Stars Seating/ Environment: *Located on the Pier *Close to Pike Place *Nice Restrooms Food/Drink: *3 Piece Fish N Chips (Cod) *New England Clam Chowder (Cup) I went to Ivar's Fish Bar because a friend recommended it, and overall it was a good experience! The cod fish tasted fresh and well-cooked, but the portion was smaller than I expected based on the advertisement on the posters. The New England clam chowder was really good-- not overwhelming creamy and good amounts of clams. One thing I liked was that the fish is made to order, and the service was really fast. It's a nice spot for a quick bite, especially with the covered outdoor seating that lets you enjoy the view. Just a heads up--there were lots of birds around, so be prepared for some feathered company while you eat. If you need to use the restroom, there are nice indoor facilities close by inside the main restaurant. I'd say it's definitely worth trying if you're in the area and want fresh seafood with speedy service! Hoping to try other fish options next time I'm in town!

Needed a quick bite and this place has walk up service. Their menu is simple but you have a variety of options. There's no formal seating so it's more grab and go. I had heard their fish and chips were good so that's what I went with. The portion was smaller than I had expected . Their tartar sauce is pre-packed and was hoping it was made fresh. The fish tasted fresh. It was good for a quick bite.

Mmm I think there was something missing in the clam chowder. More clams forsure. The fish and chips were ok. Cookie butter beignets were too much.

We shared a 3 piece cod and chips and a large chowder. It's nice they give a senior discount when you are over 60 (yikes!). The service was quick and friendly and we got our food quickly. The fish is cooked up perfectly with a golden crust and was delicious. They serve it with their house tartar sauce and a very small side of coleslaw. The chowder was very hearty and tasty as well. Everything here was good and, even though seating inside is limited, they had a few outdoor tables which helped. We at outside and another group joined us and we made friends with them. Bonus. Give this small business a try next time you're in Rainier Valley. I'll definitely come back again.

came in cause this spot was featured on worth it's show :)…read more i asked what fish the staff would recommend, which was cod. they also have a ton of great options for fish for their chips at different price points, cod, catfish, salmon, prawn, etc. even chicken, if you're bringing someone who isn't into fish (for some reason). now hoooly, this was good fish. as background, i've never been the biggest fan of fish and chips in general, i had it at a "famous" spot in london and was unenthused by the dish for a long while. recently, i've been hunting places in seattle for a good fish and chips meal after moving here though, and this spot really captured my heart and i'm definitely an enjoyer. super flavorful fish with a light, crisp, and flakey crust, can't even make this up, it was a perfect light fry in my opinion. great flavor coming through as well with plenty of moisture retained in the cod. and the chips (or fries, for the uninitiated) were so bomb as well. frankly, i found the cajun? dusting to be an incredible add and the texture was incredible on these. each order also comes with a coleslaw which went well with the fried items, and i found the 3 piece to be a sufficient size for a small-medium meal at a great price for the cod. overall just such a great experience here, i will definitely be back to try the catfish and salmon, and just like in worth it, probably will give the chowder a shot too. ambiance wise, there's a small parking lot with reasonable amounts of parking and the shop has a handful of seats indoor and outdoor, was kept really nice and i love the neighborhood go-to spot vibe. staff were also very nice! overall: 10/10 taste: 10/10 price: 10/10 honestly, it hasn't gotten better than this in my experience with fish and chips.

All the…read moreoutdoor tables were full when we arrived at 6, so we put our name on the list for inside and waited about 30 minutes. The oysters were the main draw for me, and they were totally worth the visit. Old Stove serves them with a savory watermelon sauce in addition to a traditional cocktail sauce--eaten together, it's a flavor explosion that I can't quite describe. We also enjoyed the garlic everything fries, which were delicious! We just had to try a flight to sample the brews. There are some really good beers available here, especially the Belgian blonde, citra pale ale, and the stout. I did not really care for the seasonal sour (grapefruit, I think)--to me, it just tasted like a sour and nothing more, but someone with more interest in sour beers would probably enjoy it just fine. Despite the busy night, our server checked on us regularly and was very personable, stopping to chat with us about the local sports scene. There's plenty to look at, inside and out. If you can snag a seat outside, you'll get to enjoy the waterfront. Inside, the decor is industrial but fun. Not sure if this runs all the time, but when we were there, the tvs were playing vintage beer ads, which was quite fun. They also sell some pretty good t-shirt designs. Overall, Old Stove Brewing is the perfect combo of good location, good food, and good beer. Definitely recommend a visit when in the Pike Place area!

I didn't find the pours I got to be particularly memorable. I had a Circuit breaker which was probably the best. Pomegranate sour was passable as was the Citra streaker, but none of them slapped. The place was swamped with people and while I understand the setting. for the number of staff running around here, the place was dirty. I'd think they'd have a couple of the servers come thought and sweep up and clean the tables. So my impressions of Old Stove is that it's a huge restaurant/brewery that tourists can come to as it's close to Pike Place and the pier, but as a result is slammed so bad that it looks a bit worse for the wear, or at least it was on my visit on a weekday evening.

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and I am so glad I finally did! We ordered a few things to share and every single dish was delicious! Shrimp toast: this was a great appetizer to share! Very crispy and the sauces on the side gave it a more complex flavor! It came with a sweet mayo and chili sauce. The chili sauce is definitely spicy if you can't handle spice so beware on how much you're using if that's the case. I also really enjoyed the slaw that came with it, it was very refreshing and it had a bit of sweet mayo flavor to it, I think it's the same as the dipping sauce but I could be wrong! Fried oysters: these were delicious! I think fried oysters can be a hit or miss for me, sometimes the interior can feel too dry and feel kinda of mushy-like, like I'm eating bread rather than seafood. But this had great texture on the inside while being crispy on the outside! The sauce on the side tasted like a pepper aioli which gave the oyster a nice tang *the fried dishes were great but after having a few, it definitely felt heavy, so this would be something I share with someone else vs eating it on my own Smoked salmon belly dip: I really enjoyed this! It was creamy and had chunks of salmon in it. It wasn't too dense or thick so it was perfect for scooping onto the kettle chips. The kettle chips were lightly salted so it was the perfect combo with the dip. Clam chowder: wow I absolutely loved this! This is different than any other chowder I've had. While I love a white creamy chowder from your typical seafood places, the base being a fish stock definitely brought out the seafood flavor vs a white chowder feeling like a cream base. This chowder still felt creamy and rich without the seafood flavor being overpowered. Rockfish bowl: the crab rolls were sold out by the time we made it to the register so we opted for this instead and I am so glad that we did. I didn't really expect this to blow me away but this was such a refreshing dish that balanced out the fried dishes we got. It used viet flavors that you may typically find in a banh mi which made it refreshing and had great texture from all the different fresh ingredients and fried garlic. I also loved how the fish came in patty form mixed with pork, it was flavorful and moist. I love any type of fish tofu/patty, I think it really makes fish flavorful when it sometimes can have a really mild flavor. I'll definitely be back to try the crab rolls!

Staff were ready to answer questions, and had a lot of good energy when serving orders to me and their other customers. I split with two others in my group the sampler, which consists of two pieces each of fried cod, oyster and shrimp, all on top of a bed of French fries. The tempura batter for all three came apart a little too easily, though it was even more so with the fried cod, as it was hard to use a spoon and fork to scoop up the easily broken pieces. Shrimp and oyster were both really good and not too salty on their own. French fries were also really filling, and were very fresh - they were on the verge of being too salty. Overall portion was relatively big and all three of us got full from splitting this.
