Got there at 530 and landed in a lovely table for two at with a window overlooking the lake. This Ivers continues to be legendary, and the ambience is fabulous. The service is a well oiled machine. I ordered the wild Alaskan copper river, salmon, extremely expensive. Unfortunately it was undercooked so I had it returned to the kitchen, so it wasn't sushi anymore, we had a fabulous time despite the disappointing fish that dish cost $58 which is frankly outrageous.Go for the ambiance and the views and order the cheapest things on the menu! read more

It might have nothing in particular for some people but the fried shrimp are pretty good! I guess it has no cute presentation as this part is the front bar. If you would like a table and a view, you could go inside to the restaurant. This bar has a few tables inside for winter days. Tables on the outside are perfect when waiting for your order. Came here after watching YouTube's Worth It review of this establishment. Wish I could give this place 4 or 5 stars because the staff was very friendly, but honestly food quality falls short compared to its price. For $17 I got an a la carte mix of fried halibut and cod and their smoked salmon chowder. Because the staff knew this was my first time, they threw in an extra piece of halibut. Still, I thought the portions weren't that large (or maybe I'm just a big eater). Anyway, onto food quality. Starting with the positives, I really enjoyed the fried cod. Each bite was hot and the fish itself was very tender. The batter was nice and flaky as well. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the halibut (which is actually more expensive than the cod). It was warm, not hot. It was also very dense and kind of dry to be honest. The smoked salmon chowder was a mixed bag for me too. On the one hand, great smoky flavor. On the other hand, I was hoping to see chunks of salmon in the chowder but instead there's MAYBE some shredded pieces in there. While you can taste the salmon in the chowder, I didn't really see much salmon in the chowder itself. Trust me, I searched Lastly the tarter sauce tasted okay but I was hoping for freshly made homemade tarter sauce - instead it comes in a dipping sauce container and has probably been stored in inventory for some time. As someone who grew up in landlocked states I was hoping that Seattle (and Ivar's) could be the "In N Out" of seafood - amazing fresh seafood at a low price. I stop in here every now and then and always get the clams. Love the chowder but usually just get the clams and strips. On this last visit, the fries tasted like they were fried in old stale oil and left a weird aftertaste so just abandoned them. The clams were just fine. When you click 3 stars on Yelp, it says "A-OK." And that is exactly how I felt about this place. It was OK. I was so excited to have some good seafood (specifically salmon) on my weekend trip to Seattle. The thing about the seafood here is you can go to a nicer seafood place that will cost you an arm and a leg, but the food will be worth it. Or you can come to a quick joint like this that is cheaper and faster, but maybe not as high of quality. So when it comes faster seafood, this place is pretty good. I ordered the grilled salmon dinner. It comes with salmon, wild rice, corn bread, and coleslaw. The salmon I would give 4 stars, the rice and coleslaw 3, and the corn bread 2. I was really hungry and had been craving seafood. So this stuff was good, but not great. I also felt like the bar itself was a little disorganized. Ordering your food shouldn't have been as difficult as the workers made it out to be. I did not feel like a valued customer, rather a person to get out of the way so they could make their next order. This Ivar's is a Native American decorated seafood restaurant with stunning views out to Lake Union. On-site dining with both indoor and outdoor seating. Patio is full of bouncing noise of traffic as the Ship Canal Bridge is not far above. I prefer a table near the window. I have dined here on numerous occasions - both lunch and dinner. I prefer dinner because it has thoughtful and attentive plating. In terms of food, Ivar's fish and chips are light and crispy, and the batter doesn't separate from the cod fillets. Classic white chowder is creamy and full of ingredients. Alder smoked salmon is on the drier side which creates a rough texture, but it has a nice mild smoky flavor with a hint of sweetness. Overall: Standard service. OK food at high price. One cool thing about this Ivar's is that they have actual whale-makers in the bar area. HUGE! read more

Went for a nice bike ride in the beautiful weather we've been having and grabbed dinner to eat by the water. Order information at the walk up window was easy and fast, the only downside was the horrible smell coming from their trash bins directly adjacent to the line where you order. The girl who was handling the handoff of orders also forgot to add utensils to our order. I had the shrimp caesar salad so I shouldn't have had to go back and ask for utensils. This is a Seattle icon, somewhere any tourist should consider going at least once but it's also a local favorite with Northwest comfort food including clam chowder and fish & chips. The chowder is creamy, thick, with a healthy amount of chewy clams. The fish is more street-food level, nothing fancy, but memorable and good texture & flavor. No frills quick stop with decent seafood. Staff was really friendly. Came here on a Friday night and it was alright. Not very packed at all. There's indoor and outdoor seating, but it was chilly the night we came, so we sat inside. You order at the walk up bar outside and sometimes they take a bunch of orders at once so make sure you're ready to give it to them. They usually take the hot seafood entree orders right away and when you walk up to pay they take the additional drinks and "accessory" orders. The menu is pretty simple We got some of everything to try. Fish n Chips - juicy, medium pieces of fish. battered and fried well. also received a bonus fish in our order Oyster n Chips - medium pieces of oyster; not too briny, no sand, great texture and flavor Shrimp Cocktail - pass on ordering this again. It was basically bloody mary mix with cut up celery and small pieces of baby shrimps. The flavors and textures made this one hard to eat. Bowl of white chowder - decent flavor, large pieces of potatoes and clams, decently thick (did the spoon test) Overall for the price point you're paying, it's a decent seafood meal. I personally like the location along the pier better but that's purely because of the scenery. The chowder is good, pretty good for a fast casual place. The bread was a little hard and so it was better with the crackers. We got the shrimp and chips and it wasn't anything to write home about. But if you're craving popcorn shrimp and some fries then this will get the job done. We also got the fish and chips to try. This meal was better than the shrimp, in my opinion. The fish wasn't too greasy and the batter to fish ratio was good. They have a nice enclosed area to sit in during the colder days. Parking is a little small but it's still there. I have visited many times over the years. Gradually more disappointing service..... today especially. Ordered 2 salmon and chips and chowder for take away. Not too busy. Got home to find only one salmon in bag. Verified that I was charged for correct order. Called to ask for credit, but no answer. Eventually got through by calling main restaurant and transferring. Person who finally answered asked if we had looked in the bag before we left. Couldn't give any credit (about $12). If we drove back (20 min) we could probably get another order. Guess I should not trust their employees to actually do their job or give good customer service. read more

The worker who took our order was nice and funny and offered to make our food presentable since he knew I wanted to take a photo. He also gave us as many sauces as we need! The food was what we expected, luckily, it was well-thought-out and planned in a corporate way. So it was good enough. I think we caught a waiter who'd already spent his positive energy earlier in the day so we got rudeimentary service enough that the plates made it to the table but I did get a little tired of asking for a refill in the coffee for us in Seattle. So, as far as a review goes they did their homework and so things were delicious, decently proportioned and served in a reasonable Northwest style.
