We came with a friend for a pre-dinner snack since this is a famous local place though I really haven't tried it myself. I liked the retro style nostalgia of this place, but really don't feel like the prices reflect the quality. We tried a regular cheeseburger (almost $6 and ketchup is an extra). Burger was greasy and soft and nothing special to be honest. We were unfortunately a little disappointed.
This Wallingford outpost of Dick's Drive-In is packed almost every night in the summer. It's conveniently located near the I-5, along a busy stretch of NE 45th St. We stopped by around 9pm after a trip to Vancouver and tried their cheeseburgers (regular, special, and deluxe) as well as some fries. The milkshakes seemed to be really popular as well, but I wanted to save my stomach space for some Molly Moon's (which was also down the street). Our cashier was really kind and helpful, and walked us through the differences between their burgers. I really liked my deluxe burger out of all the ones I tried, but you cannot beat the deal that is the $3.25 cheeseburger. I was told Dick's is Seattle's version of In-N-Out and I can definitely see the resemblance. They have a delicious mayo-pickle relish sauce that is sweeter than it is tangy, but the acidity is a nice balance to all the grease. I will say, however, the fries were a miss. They came limp and soggy and our fingers were slicked with oil after grabbing a few fries. Overall, our total about out to be about $36 for 6 burgers and 2 fries, which is an incredible value. The parking lot can be packed during the later hours, but it's not too hard to find a spot since cars come and go.
Standard Seattle Dick's. The staff are always nice and helpful when I have a question. It's a drive in so obviously it's to-go so you can eat in the car, take home, or sit down on a nearby bench. I usually order fries and cheeseburger. Nothing fancy but if you're craving a greasy fast food burger and fries this is a good option especially with the late night hours! I like their chocolate and strawberry milkshakes and today finally tried a sundae! For sundaes you can choose any of the ice cream options and get one topping. I chose a huckleberry sundae with the chocolate hot fudge. The sundae was good especially on a hot day. Chill vibes if you're looking for an easy and quick meal. What I enjoy and like most about Dick's Drive-In is definitely the late night hours open until 2am.
If you are looking for an old school, basic unpretentious hamburger...this is your place. Straight forward. Basic. Fast. Hot. Fresh. Very good. My kids love this place, and I do, too. I don't need any housemade burger slop or aioli. Mustard and ketchup is just fine. And fresh, hot fries. And cold thick shakes. Come to Seattle and get you a bag of Dick's (hamburgers). Hey, this is a family joint...keep it clean and respectable.
Extra star for the huckleberry icecream! The burger is fine, and understandable the nostalgia that it provides locals. However the burger fell flat for me. Nothing fresh like lettuce and tomato on it that makes a burger more satisfying on a hot day for me. The parking lot is also a bit of a nightmare, we sat on a bench nearby and saw a few near misses! Be careful when you're here
A good classic burger and fries at an affordable cost, something I haven't had for a long time. If my wife and I were local I could see us being regulars here. I'd say the actual food is like a high 3/5, but you honestly cannot beat the price in today's economy, bumping it to a 4. Service was quick and the staff were friendly. The public restroom was clean which was a pleasant surprise. Overall this was a super nice way to end my time up in Seattle for the day.
I was told that Dick's is to Seattle as In-N-Out is to California, just not as good. Even with the "just not as good", I don't know that they can even be compared. I ordered a burger, fries and ice cream. The burger and fries just weren't my jam. They were very soggy and soft. Maybe this is how some people like it, but I just didn't love it. I love a crisp burger- a bun and patty with a little bit of crunch. But this was more soft in consistency. The fries were also limp and just not my style. The ice cream was fine and I enjoyed that it had a bunch of topping options including my favorite, hot fudge. The vibe I got from this place was that it's more of a icon versus actually having tasty food. Probably a great nostalgic spot, but not for the actual food itself. Service was very friendly though and they moved real quick. Parking was easy and they had bathrooms available.
Came for the vibes, I love the retro look! The food was nothing special, but it's a nice late night drunken greasy meal. There's no place to sit so you eat it in the car like a drive in. Apparently, Bill Gates was photographed eating here.
Burgers are exactly what is expected and their burgers have their own personality. They are delicious. Chase it with a strawberry shake perfect. Perfect drive in atmosphere. They had a pop up merch tent.... Nice and nostalgic. FYI Restrooms on site now
Things I love, and have always loved, about the Wallingford Dick's: - Near the U and open late (which was kinda dangerous back in my Greek Row days) - Affordable prices (not as affordable as in my U days but still) - Consistent, delicious burgers; mushy-but-tasty fries; best root beer float in town - It's so easy to get to on my way home in the northerly regions; great stop on the way home from a late night flight into SEA - Friendly staff and almost always lots of parking - Always a small opportunity for a local sealebrity sighting! Add to that the fact they finally take credit cards, and are slowly adding new items to their menu (while still keeping that tight rein on their offerings), means I'm a loyal customer for life. Don't ever change (too much) Dick's!
You can't beat the vibes and prices at Dick's. I got a cheeseburger and a strawberry milkshake this time and they were the simple and old-fashioned flavors you'd expect and hope for. There was a semi-long line when I arrived on a Monday night but it moved quickly enough. The staff are friendly and efficient
It's a landmark and it's hard for me to fight that and the nostalgia I have for Dick's so I'm giving it a begrudging three stars. The wait to order was still as quick as I remember and the efficiency of it was still there. I don't know, maybe in my 20s it was funner or tastier but the deluxe was smaller than I remember, greasier than I recalled-and felt the next day and thankfully I was in a rental car because it was a pretty messy affair. I think in the years since other fast casual burger places have come up, Dick's has just nostalgia to fall back on.
I heard about this burger spot online and how it was comparable to In-n-Out in our state. I thought the prices were low and affordable for what we bought. We ordered a hamburger, a deluxe burger, fries, and a strawberry milkshake. We thought the burgers were tasty but not as flavorful as the In-n-Out burgers. Also, the burger is small, so I would suggest buying 2. The fries were crispy and fresh since they hand cut them daily. The milkshake was sweet and had a smooth texture. The lines moved quite quickly and our cashier was very friendly. The atmosphere was laid-back at this quick-service spot. I'm glad we tried this burger spot, but I would not go to the drive-in next time because there are no tables and seats. read more
Super quick service! Order came out before I was able to pay. Heard about this popular place in Seattle for value, quick, and easy burger place. Simple menu of burger, fries, and ice cream. Got the deluxe burger which has 2 patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a tasty sauce. Fries were soft and limp but had some crispy pieces. Drive in vibes with huge rotating dicks sign in front. read more
I finally tried Dick's Drive-In last month after my partner, a Washington native, insisted it was a rite of passage. Those burgers were hot, juicy and satisfying. I genuinely can't remember if we got fries (apparently my brain checked out the moment the burger hit), but Washington soda just tastes better. I don't know what kind of magic is in the water up there, but it was absolutely worth the soda tax. Service was quick, the food was hot, and the whole experience lived up to the hype. read more

My friend and I were looking for something cheap in the area and Dicks seemed like our best bet. I got the cheeseburger and fries for less than $10. Why are people in Seattle allergic to salt everywhere I've been the fries are just hot oil and potatoes. The burger was fine. I got a kids chocolate cone and the icecream had a weird after taste but it was bareable, it also had weird ice chunks. Best part was the cone. Very... um... smiley staff... I don't know whats so funny but when I look back he's still smiling when no one is there... also why can't we get some tables in here? Do they sacrifice buying tables to keep food prices so low? This is a Seattle institution! You can't visit Seattle without stopping in at Dick's Drive-In. The prices are still insanely cheap. It's a no frills burger here. Great service and quick to come out. You order outside at the windows. You choose your burger, fries, shake, drink.. and it comes out fast. I do suggest adding the tartar sauce to the burgers or using it as a fries dip. Since it is delicious! Adds that extra punch to the food. A must for anyone checking out Seattle for the first time or looking for a late night fast food bite read more

Smells like teen spirit here at this Seattle institution. Busy in the sunshine, even busier when raining. You don't come here necessarily for lunch or dinner. He calls you to come at all times throughout the day or sleepless at night. With the inevitable credit card acceptance, gone are the days when every employee was a math wizard and added up your total instantly in their head at the end of your order. That was always impressive. Though times have changed, the courteous service the delish burgers & fries & shakes have remained the same. read more
Super cheap and affordable for a late night snack/meal, got my food and milkshake pretty quickly and the lines weren't too long. There's no outdoor seating so I ate my food in the car while watching the sausage being made. Their burgers and chocolate milkshake are amazing! read more
Quick service - Greasy goodness - Old school dinner prices Officially had my first bag of dicks! Cheapest food I've found in Seattle! Old school style burger and fries. Got the Dicks special which is a burger with lettuce, pickles, and mayo. Added ketchup mustard and onions that were an additional $0.20 each. Not much seating around but walked over to a nearby bench and enjoyed. It's not the best burger and fries I've ever had but prices you can't beat. Hit the spot. Worth coming to! read more

If you like small and limp then Dicks is ur go to. $3.20 is not even a good price for this crap. Fries are solid as well as shakes read more
Fun fact. THIS Dicks Drive-In is the very first Dicks Drive-In! It's true - "the morning of January 28, 1954, the first Dick's Drive-In opened for business on N.E. 45thStreet in the Wallingford District of Seattle" (From the Dick's Drive-in website) So this particular Dick's is kinda historic. Many of you know I love my history and..burgers. That all out of the way, Dick's strongest draw is that it's cheap. Yeah, in my visit I got a couple of deluxe's (Double cheeseburgers), a shake and fries for about $20. From there Dick's goes a bit limp (no pun intended). additional condiments are $0.20 each. I understand the extra asking price but it's still kinda lame when at other places you can load up on ketchup to your content. Consistency is a bit off. One deluxe was soggy and not as hot. The following one was significantly better, but not great. The fries were also just alright and not crispy in the least. The Shake was cold and tasted ok but was soupy and had not thickness to it. So overall it was pretty flat. I've had worse burgers, and many may well know you're coming to Dick's for a quick and cheap burger fix, that you take right to your car or to the curb and chow down. I won't say I'll give up on Dick's but I wouldn't make it my first option. read more

19¢ cent cheeseburger or hamburger special!!! What a fun special! Although lines were LONG, service was so quick that it went by very quickly. You can choose either a hamburger or cheeseburger, either plain or original. No other substitutions. Service is seriously instantaneous! We also ordered a double scoop of mint chocolate chip and peppermint ice cream. It came with both a cone and cup. There is lots of parking available in their private lot. There is no seating/dine in available. read more

It's Dick's. If you like Dick's burgers, you'll like this location. If you do not, you won't. Oddest Dick's location I've seen so far. Kind of hidden in the back of Crossroads Mall. Still, they've managed to capture the Dick's walk up look and feel (more of the feel than the look). Food is spot on. read more
Damn delicious. Yeah, I said it. I've been hearing about Dick's Drive In for years. Frankly, it's never been on my list of places to go, food to enjoy, must have in Seattle list. After enjoying one of their burgers, I'm wondering why it hasn't been on my list. Dicks is a local favorite, and apparently has been around for decades. If you know, you know. If you don't, I'm here to help you out... for those of you that think that the California based In-N-Out Burger is the be-all to end-all, I'm here to tell you you need to try dicks drive-in. Diners tip: their approach to how they make their food, it's similar to that Seinfeld episode with the soup man. You get what you get, and you don't have a fit. There's absolutely no changing the way they make their burgers. You order the way you see it on the menu. I'm here to tell you, I always get my burgers without lettuce, and in this case, did not have a choice. Everything about my cheeseburger was absolutely fantastic. This is totally cheap eats, but really good eats. The prices are so freaking unbelievably low, you'll probably end up staring at the menu sign thinking that you may have read the price's wrong. I ordered the deluxe cheeseburger. It's a quarter pounder burger that's made into two individual patties. If you are a hearty eater, you can easily down a couple of those bad boys. The fries are even fabulous. The fry order by itself is relatively small so if you're not interested in something super huge, it's definitely the perfect meal. So I mention how incredibly delicious the cheeseburger was?! They call it chopped pickles but I'm pretty sure it's some type of relish mixed in as part of the condiments they put on the burger. Whatever it is, just eat the damn thing because it's so delicious. They definitely have options on the menu if you are a food wuss, and you just want basic/plain. The one thing that made me laugh is that they impose what apparently is a local ordinance tax when you buy a soft drink that has sugar in it. Yes, if you order a diet drink, you don't pay the sugar fee. I really wanted to try one of the shakes. The person next to me ordered one, and it looked divine. Everything that they serve is made in house. Yes, fresh ingredients, all house made, and so super inexpensive you will want to die in there every day! read more
