We came with a friend for a pre-dinner snack since this is a famous local place though I really haven't tried it myself. I liked the retro style nostalgia of this place, but really don't feel like the prices reflect the quality. We tried a regular cheeseburger (almost $6 and ketchup is an extra). Burger was greasy and soft and nothing special to be honest. We were unfortunately a little disappointed.
This Wallingford outpost of Dick's Drive-In is packed almost every night in the summer. It's conveniently located near the I-5, along a busy stretch of NE 45th St. We stopped by around 9pm after a trip to Vancouver and tried their cheeseburgers (regular, special, and deluxe) as well as some fries. The milkshakes seemed to be really popular as well, but I wanted to save my stomach space for some Molly Moon's (which was also down the street). Our cashier was really kind and helpful, and walked us through the differences between their burgers. I really liked my deluxe burger out of all the ones I tried, but you cannot beat the deal that is the $3.25 cheeseburger. I was told Dick's is Seattle's version of In-N-Out and I can definitely see the resemblance. They have a delicious mayo-pickle relish sauce that is sweeter than it is tangy, but the acidity is a nice balance to all the grease. I will say, however, the fries were a miss. They came limp and soggy and our fingers were slicked with oil after grabbing a few fries. Overall, our total about out to be about $36 for 6 burgers and 2 fries, which is an incredible value. The parking lot can be packed during the later hours, but it's not too hard to find a spot since cars come and go.
Standard Seattle Dick's. The staff are always nice and helpful when I have a question. It's a drive in so obviously it's to-go so you can eat in the car, take home, or sit down on a nearby bench. I usually order fries and cheeseburger. Nothing fancy but if you're craving a greasy fast food burger and fries this is a good option especially with the late night hours! I like their chocolate and strawberry milkshakes and today finally tried a sundae! For sundaes you can choose any of the ice cream options and get one topping. I chose a huckleberry sundae with the chocolate hot fudge. The sundae was good especially on a hot day. Chill vibes if you're looking for an easy and quick meal. What I enjoy and like most about Dick's Drive-In is definitely the late night hours open until 2am.
If you are looking for an old school, basic unpretentious hamburger...this is your place. Straight forward. Basic. Fast. Hot. Fresh. Very good. My kids love this place, and I do, too. I don't need any housemade burger slop or aioli. Mustard and ketchup is just fine. And fresh, hot fries. And cold thick shakes. Come to Seattle and get you a bag of Dick's (hamburgers). Hey, this is a family joint...keep it clean and respectable.
Extra star for the huckleberry icecream! The burger is fine, and understandable the nostalgia that it provides locals. However the burger fell flat for me. Nothing fresh like lettuce and tomato on it that makes a burger more satisfying on a hot day for me. The parking lot is also a bit of a nightmare, we sat on a bench nearby and saw a few near misses! Be careful when you're here
A good classic burger and fries at an affordable cost, something I haven't had for a long time. If my wife and I were local I could see us being regulars here. I'd say the actual food is like a high 3/5, but you honestly cannot beat the price in today's economy, bumping it to a 4. Service was quick and the staff were friendly. The public restroom was clean which was a pleasant surprise. Overall this was a super nice way to end my time up in Seattle for the day.
I was told that Dick's is to Seattle as In-N-Out is to California, just not as good. Even with the "just not as good", I don't know that they can even be compared. I ordered a burger, fries and ice cream. The burger and fries just weren't my jam. They were very soggy and soft. Maybe this is how some people like it, but I just didn't love it. I love a crisp burger- a bun and patty with a little bit of crunch. But this was more soft in consistency. The fries were also limp and just not my style. The ice cream was fine and I enjoyed that it had a bunch of topping options including my favorite, hot fudge. The vibe I got from this place was that it's more of a icon versus actually having tasty food. Probably a great nostalgic spot, but not for the actual food itself. Service was very friendly though and they moved real quick. Parking was easy and they had bathrooms available.
Came for the vibes, I love the retro look! The food was nothing special, but it's a nice late night drunken greasy meal. There's no place to sit so you eat it in the car like a drive in. Apparently, Bill Gates was photographed eating here.
Burgers are exactly what is expected and their burgers have their own personality. They are delicious. Chase it with a strawberry shake perfect. Perfect drive in atmosphere. They had a pop up merch tent.... Nice and nostalgic. FYI Restrooms on site now
Things I love, and have always loved, about the Wallingford Dick's: - Near the U and open late (which was kinda dangerous back in my Greek Row days) - Affordable prices (not as affordable as in my U days but still) - Consistent, delicious burgers; mushy-but-tasty fries; best root beer float in town - It's so easy to get to on my way home in the northerly regions; great stop on the way home from a late night flight into SEA - Friendly staff and almost always lots of parking - Always a small opportunity for a local sealebrity sighting! Add to that the fact they finally take credit cards, and are slowly adding new items to their menu (while still keeping that tight rein on their offerings), means I'm a loyal customer for life. Don't ever change (too much) Dick's!
You can't beat the vibes and prices at Dick's. I got a cheeseburger and a strawberry milkshake this time and they were the simple and old-fashioned flavors you'd expect and hope for. There was a semi-long line when I arrived on a Monday night but it moved quickly enough. The staff are friendly and efficient
It's a landmark and it's hard for me to fight that and the nostalgia I have for Dick's so I'm giving it a begrudging three stars. The wait to order was still as quick as I remember and the efficiency of it was still there. I don't know, maybe in my 20s it was funner or tastier but the deluxe was smaller than I remember, greasier than I recalled-and felt the next day and thankfully I was in a rental car because it was a pretty messy affair. I think in the years since other fast casual burger places have come up, Dick's has just nostalgia to fall back on.
Fast and efficient. It's a Seattle staple. Depending on what time you come you will get a show for people watching. This location is near UW so it can get crowded at night The food is consistent and good. We all have our go to items. The workers are always nice and Dick's treats their employees well. read more

Cheeseburger comparable to that of McD's this is the original location park and walk up only. No jndoor seating. Ate the very ok burgers and warm limpy fries in our car which was fine. Still kind of neat to be able to go to an original location that opened 70 years ago. Kudos to them for maintaining a successful business after all of that time. read more

Yummy bites and friendly staff even at late hours. This place is efficient and tasty. You really can't complain when it comes to consistency and their prices just can't be beat! Of course it has the old timey feel. I wish they had veg options other than fries but it's a crowd pleaser and seattle staple nonetheless! read more

Come here for your bag of Dicks. Leave knowing you'll be satisfied. It is what it is. The deluxes were 4 something and fries were 2 something, which is a lot more expensive than I used to remember years ago but hey times have changed I guess. Food is still great and for some reason this time the fries were like exceptionally tasty and not as flaccid as I'm used to. Guy's behind the window were super prompt and nice as usual. read more
Dick's is a Seattle must try. Besides the lightning fast service and great prices, this is a classically good fast food burger. Not to mention all the great jokes you and your friends will be cracking the whole way home. The Dick's Deluxe is almost a meal, I need to supplement it with another burger to hit peak fullness. Fastest service I think I have ever experienced anywhere! Needed a quick bite to eat (it was very late, after 1 am) and we were starving. Found this Dicks on the way to our hotel and it did not disappoint. Burgers and fries were delicious, service was fast, and it was cheap! All the things you could want in one place! This looked like a place for the younger crowd (college-ish age) or it also could've been because it was already very late and middle aged people my age are already sleeping!! Line had about 10 people in it but everyone social distances, wears masks, and the line moved very fast. Definitely check this place out if you're in need of a quick bite!!! read more

What can I say about Dick's Drive-In? They are VERY VERY VERY BUSY!!!! We visited close to 11pm, and the place was hopping with customers. Seriously, there were at least 6 people lined up at each of the walk-up windows. I believe there were at least 6 lines. Pretty darn impressive! They cook up some decent food at affordable prices. My Cheeseburger was okay. My Strawberry shake was also alright. Honestly, I was not impressed with the food at this Seattle institution. I would not go out of my way to come here again. Still, I'm happy that I had the opportunity to try them for myself. You should as well. read more
Dick's is to WA as In-N-Out is to CA, and Whataburger to TX. I think it's better than Whataburger's burgers, but In-N-Out has better fries and burgers than both. Dick's is the quickest out of the three with halfway decent burgers, but their fries are a limpier than In-N-Out. You can't customize Dick's like the other two, but I'd come back for a late night bite. Summary: this is Seattle's staple for food that's cheap and fast. read more
It's nostalgia. Of course prefer a heartier burger, but sometimes Dick's can really satisfies with cheap, fast, good enough burgers, handcut limpy fries & thick shakes. A taste and experience from the past with their old signage, building and walk-up window. . Not too many places are opened until 2am. Easy to eat in the car as originally intended or take it to go. No inside seating but can park in their relatively large Seattle parking lot. Iconic Seattle burger chain with 9 locations within the greater Seattle area. This is the site of the original Dick's drive-in that opened in 1954 by Dick Spady with a simple menu that has barely expanded since then. The company is known to be generous to their employees and that alone is worth giving them some business. I'm from Los Angeles where in n out is arguably the king of burgers. Yes, I know that there are great burgers all over but what I'm saying is that I have high expectations. I recently took a trip to Seattle and decided to try this place where all of the locals flock to. I wanted to see what the hype was about and if it measured up to my dear old in n out. I'm happy to report that the burgers, fries and shakes at Dick's are top notch. Maybe it's best not to compare but instead to say that each burger has its own take. Dick's comes out swinging with a tasty patty that is made from quality meat, fresh bun and ingredients. I like how they added pickles and mustard to their burgers which add a nice tangy flavor. Washed it down with a thick handmade chocolate shake. This is a good burger! No complaints and whenever I'm in Seattle I'll most certainly pay them a visit. read more

TLDR; fast food burger joint. It's cheap, opens late, and food comes out really fast. I was a little skeptical about eating here. Coming from California, where we have In n Out, Five Guys, the Habit...how was this place going to compare? It seemed to be a more jank Mcdonald's. But it was late at night, and this was the closest thing that was open so why not give it a shot. First off, this location doesn't have an indoor seating area. Unless you want to eat outside where there's no cover from the sun/rain, then you'll have to eat in the car or take it to go. Second, everything is pre made. At least my burger wasn't made fresh. I was watching the workers prep my order and just saw them grab a burger out of a metal tray. I remember feeling kind of disappointed. i also thought it was really interesting how they charge you for condiments but it's only 5 cents so it's not too bad. Dick's Deluxe: I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, it did look kind of sad when I unwrapped it but the taste was better than its appearance. For the price we paid, it could've tasted a lot worse. Fries: Fries were whatever, it seemed like they were also cooked ahead of time. They were very soggy but tasted fine. Just wish they were freshly cooked. Don't knock it till you try it! Seems like a good place to go after a night out drinking too. read more
Tasty burger, freshly cut fries and a thick, flavorful milk shake - what more can you ask for from a fast food restaurant? My wife and I dropped in for a quick bite during our visit to Seattle and Dick's Drive-In lived up to whatever positive reviews I've read about fast food restaurants in the city. We rolled up to the parking lot surrounding the restaurant and took a spot right in front of the legendary local joint. There was a good amount of people waiting in line already and consistently throughout the 30 minutes we spent there. We both ordered a Dick's Deluxe with a side of French Fries and a drink (a strawberry milkshake for me and a root beer float for her). Dick's made it very easy for us as everything was just 1 size, so there was no small, medium or large. The burger was around $3.40, the fries were $1.90 and the shake was $2.70, so everything was very reasonably priced. The food was ready within a matter of a minute. Since there were no tables or seats, we took our loot back to our car and ate in the parking lot. Although that sounds sad, this is a drive-in after all. The burger was juicy, meaty and a reasonable size. The fries were our favorite from the meal though. They were obviously freshly cut and ohhh so good. Some soft pieces, some a bit crunchy. My strawberry milkshake was exactly what I needed to wash it down. It was thick at first, but quickly melted, and was a tasty fast food milkshake. Like I said, in and out in 30 minutes and on our way. Exactly the way we like our meals - easy to order, quickly served and, most importantly, tasty. read more
Dicks is clearly a staple of Seattle, it's just what you'd expect a good ol cheeseburger would be. There are zero frills here, you get what you pay for and leave satisfied. The service is quick and efficient. The lines look long but go quickly. This is a walk up window service and you eat either standing around or at your car. This location is very close to the college and very frequented by the students. It's a terrific place to go when you've been out having drinks with friends and need to get some grub. Ever since I was in high school, Dick's was a spot you could go to pick up some burgers without breaking the bank. This location is great because it has ample parking and multiple service windows helping people at one time. Even at odd-hours during the day, there is always a healthy amount of customers stopping in to pick up food to take to their next destination. The menu isn't extensive and the food doesn't offer a ton of frills. Just old fashioned nostalgia served in greasy wrappings with the toppings falling out with every bite.The burgers are standard, and though I haven't had them while intoxicated, I've heard they're the perfect drunk food late at night. Though it comes in two sizes, the double pattied version isn't gigantic, so you'll be satisfied, but not carrying it around with you for the rest of the day. Service isn't the warmest, but they get you in and out pretty quick. Though they have limited seating for COVID, it's much more enjoyable to take your food to a nearby park or enjoy from the comforts of your car just to be safe. read more
