Spent a beautiful night up at the Ithaca Beer Company... We opted to sit inside (there are tables outside too) to start and got a comfy table over by the window. Our waiter was lovely and offered up samples of beers before we ordered. I decided on a Apricot Wheat Ale pretty quickly. So so good! Light beer w/ a little hint of sweetness = perfect for a warm breezy upstate kind of night. Dinner was the Smokehouse Burger - beef on an Ithaca bakery roll, green tomato relish, smoked gouda, chipotle aioli --- served with fries and 'taproom ketchup' which is SO GOOD. This ketchup tasted like a salsa and I LOVED IT. I understand this is something that maybe you wouldn't expect to see highlighted in capital letters in a brewery review but this ketchup was for real - so good. After dinner we grabbed another beer wandered the outdoor patio and was surprised to find just how big the back yard to the brewery really was. There's a ton of picnic tables, groups of Adirondack chairs, corn hole and an outdoor bar. TLDR: This establishment will not hesitate to escalate situations involving BIPOC by calling the cops. Very disappointed in the experience I had at this brewery yesterday. I needed a day to decompress and process what had happened to us so I could be able to write this. The same group of us had actually gone there the night before this happened and had a good time so we decided to come back the day after to see it in the daytime and try out their food. We placed orders outside of both food and beer for a group of 6, all of us had tipped and closed out. One of our friends had gone inside to order wine, the same bartender had served her the night before with her recently expired ID. She is 26 years old by using logic we can all figure that no one gets younger even if your id is expired. All that's happened with COVID and the DMV closures in NJ I could see how she wasn't able to take care of it before this. For some context, our group's age range was 26-29 years old, and we are all brown/Latinx with the exception of one friend who is white. He hadn't served her this time around even though he had recognized her from the night before because his manager (Mel) was nearby and said not to serve her adding that she doesn't accept expired Visas, which is racist to say being that no one was presenting a passport/visa as id, we are all US citizens with NJ state licenses. Our friend said ok and went back outside to order the wine at the outdoor stand, the bartender there served her with that same id. Once seated at the table the manager (Mel) shortly arrives to tell her she has to leave and that there is no way for her to know that, that isn't her id even though she hadn't bothered to look at it herself to come to that conclusion. We all live 3 hours away and there was no way for her to leave on her own even if we wanted to stay to eat our food and drink our beer which went untouched as we had just received them (see pictured, not included was my meal that I wasn't able to pick up from the tent). We would not be able to consume whatever we did have on the table if we had to immediately leave so we asked for all of it to be refunded so we can all leave. She agrees to give a us a refund and in the middle of the process of getting our information on what we ordered she (Mel) stops and says "Actually, I'm just going to call the cops" and walks away to make the phone call. Literally, went from 0-100, at no point in time did any of us raise our voices or threatened her in any way for her to reach this conclusion. Maybe Mel also didn't like that we were visibly annoyed but who wouldn't be? The only other people of color who were there, witnessed the whole interaction got up, threw out their food and told to us that they were never coming back and telling others as well. Shortly after, Police arrive to remove us from the premises. Mel had told them that there was an underage person drinking, when again my friend is 26, she didn't present a fake ID or someone else's, it was clearly a very legal state issued ID with her face and information on it which is why she was served the other night at the same establishment. At that point the police told us that she could have us removed from the property regardless of whether or not she was underage she could just say she doesn't want us there and have us removed and that there doesn't have to be a legal reason. It is clear to me that she simply didn't want to give us our money back and could get away with doing so because we are brown. After this experience I will not be returning to Ithaca Beer Co. or consuming any of their products and urge both white allies and BIPOC to not spend your money here, this goes to the stockists as well. There are plenty of other breweries to visit in Ithaca. Edit: I want to note that I'm pretty sure Mel is reading all of these reviews and marking them as funny anonymously. Possibly the worst experience I ever had at an establishment. I came here yesterday and everything was fine. All bartenders checked my ID (which is just recently expired, I'm 26 years old) and had no issues; served me all night. Today the manager/owner(?) Mel was there so the same guy who served me last night said he couldn't serve me. Fine. Whatever. I go sit down with my friends and the manager comes over and told me I had to leave. We all live over 3 hours away so If I left, all my 6 friends had to leave too. I tell her this and she doesn't care and says fine then you all can leave. We thought this was ridiculous but what else are we gonna do? We complied with leaving but just asked if we could get our money back for all the food and drinks we JUST ordered. Literally we didn't even touch our food yet and it's not like we can just chug all our beer. It's wasted money. She says she'll refund us our money but ENDS UP CALLING THE COPS ON US INSTEAD AND WE HAD TO BE ESCORTED OUT. Like what??? It did NOT have to escalate this bad. We were obviously annoyed at the whole situation but we weren't threatening at all or yelling or anything. We literally agreed to leave just because ONE of us who is clearly an adult has an expired ID. And we're all brown if you were wondering. ALSO when she told me she doesn't accept expired IDs she said "we don't accept expired IDs or VISAS" huh?????? I was born in America (Pictured is all the food they charged us for that we didn't get to eat because they escorted us out with cops) Edit: I just want to point out that this is not an isolated incident and apparently has happened before. Attached are screenshots of reviews stating similar statements. I also want to mention that she has been going off on FB saying we were refusing to leave. That she said "IF you don't leave I'll call the cops" That never happened. This was once a wonderful place to spend an afternoon or evening. It has changed entirely. While meal portions have shrunken, and prices have gone up, these are the least of this establishment's problems. Customer service is at an all time low. It was my husband's birthday. He took our daughter to out to dinner here, his favorite Ithaca restaurant. The hostess mistakenly typed in his phone number incorrectly at check in; after an hour of waiting, he went to check on their table. It had been given away. These things happen, it's understandable. But the manager's response was inexcusable. He said, and I quote, "If you're going to be unhappy, you can leave." No apology, nothing. He had the chance to make a full recovery from the 1:20 min wait the restaurant ended up creating on this special evening, but instead he was petty and rude. Don't bother patronizing this establishment. It's clear they don't care about their customers, even the long time loyal ones. Addendum: A person who was also dining at the restaurant overheard the exchange and anonymously paid the bill. My husband only discovered this when he went to pay. Incredible kindness. Many thanks. Sadly, we won't dine here again. The food isn't what it used to be, and the management is just awful. They have created a culture where the customer doesn't matter. Our visit on Friday, August 13th was absolutely the worst experience any of us has ever had at an establishment. I use to love this place but quickly realized my experience was mainly because I am white. I wanted to give the business the benefit of the doubt and hoped just the manager is racist but the attempt to silence and hide the backlash shows the business is more worried about being considered racist than addressing the issue of racism within its environment. Weaponizing the police on calm, complying customers is a threat to the community and all customers at your establishment. We were disappointed our friend was asked to leave but accepted and decided as a group to leave together. We stayed in the establishment solely waiting on the refund that the manager offered. The manager refused to discuss the refunds with anyone at the table except me and when I ( the only white person) could not act as a liaison for the group the manager without reason, hesitation, or even an attempt to talk to the actual person she was trying to refund, revoked the refund and told us she was calling the police. Our group has been calm and complied with the rules of the brewery so Mel's decision to call the police was clearly an attempt to provoke or scare us. As customers (with valid IDs) who paid for a service, we did not receive simply calls for a refund, and her actions to ROB us of that and pretend we were not compliant or refusing to leave is ridiculous and untrue. This experience was absolutely avoidable and incredibly dehumanizing especially to those who are of color in this group. The way Manager Mel Romag escalated this situation shows that she is unfit for the position of manager and not the leader a business would want to represent their company. She made people of color feel NOT welcomed here and unsafe with the unnecessary use of the police to scare innocent and respectful people. read more

Stopped in after being recommended. This establishment is not children friendly. We waited for host about 5 +- minutes, which is ok. No tables available and 30 minute wait. We asked to sit at the bar, 3 adults and one well behaved child. We were finishing up our 1st round. Ordered our food and sat another 10 minutes before a person came and said we had to move. Remember we have been there for almost 30 minutes. We asked why. Reason was that we had a child. New York State has no restrictions against children at bar. And the was 2:30PM in the afternoon. We had 2 restaurant personnel say it was ok to sit at the bar. We asked for the manager but was told they weren't available. We asked who he was and said he is the bus boy. Really, they sent him over. We asked to be seated in the dining room since we were being told to move. He said get the host. Again Really! We had to grab our drinks and go sit in the corner with no window or view. We were very disappointed. We will never visit or recommend this establishment to any of our friends. We are up in the Finger Lakes every month and drove 45 miles round trip for this. Happy Thanksgiving to us all. Don't waste your time and money. And also, please clean up the outside your entrance. Was checking out the college up here and checked Yelp for lunch. Ithaca Beer Company?!? Locally brewed beer and pub food?!? SIGN ME UP! I ordered a flight when we sat down and got the Hellish Lager (very good), Country Pumpkin (very good with a light hint of pumpkin/could drink this one all year), Caskazilla (Red IPA- didn't love it), and Midnight Sun (Porter-home run!)). Wifey's flight was the Apricot Wheat (grew on her and loved it, but only for a summer beer, very light and very feminine a beer), Green Trail IPA (drinkable but just average...malty finish, good forward hoppy), Caskazilla (she loved this one), and the Flower Power IPA (loved it-exactly as advertised-pineapple and grapefruit IPA, summery and not totally girly)...and my son got the draft local root beer. For our food my son got the classic wood fired pizza, Wifey ordered TKO Chicken sandwich and I got the cheddar burger. All the food here is sourced locally or grown outside the restaurant and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. Beautiful views and a great little place. The food? Exactly what we expected-delicious. My hand formed burger and hand cut fries were really, REALLY great. The pizza was quite good for upstate NY and was pretty tasty. Wifey got the last TKO sandwich and we all tasted it and agreed it should be on the menu all the time. As a loyal customer for the past 4 years I will not be visiting Ithaca Beer again. I have watched the way they treat their employees. The last of the best just got fired yesterday. Years of excellent commitment and professionalism to loyal customers means NOTHING TO THIS OWNER. The food has gone from great to disgusting. The revolving door of managers is embarrassing. The greasy large man in the corner hiding behind his computer screens is bizarre at best. It's really sad that this place has gone so far down hill. Was finally dragged here by a friend after refusing to explore Ithaca for the years I was at Cornell, and I'm so glad I finally made it here. I love the Ithaca Beer Co beers and frequently have the Flower Power IPA and the Cascazilla Red IPA, but besides those and Apricot Wheat and Green Trail I haven't had too many strictly because they're harder to come by. The menu at the Ithaca Beer Co is extensive, featuring a lot of limited edition and smaller barrel beers as well as local (1911) cider. Pours are pretty inexpensive, with smaller sizes ranging from $3-$4 and larger pours around $6-$7. You can also do one of three options for flights: a basic one that serves as a great intro-to-Ithaca flight for those who might be visiting for the first time, and a nicer flight that has some of their beers that I had never tried before. Or, you can opt to do a build your own flight and pick any four beers on the menu. When we arrived, slightly past prime dinner time, the dining room was completely booked, so we opted to sit in the patio area where they also serve some smaller bites like pork belly, fries, roasted asparagus, etc. We got the fries (with curry aioli) as an appetizer before we ate, and they were delicious. There's a sprawling grassy area and a couple of cornhole boards for those who might want to play. It's a great option for younger kids or those who might not be drinking. Later on, we were able to get seats at the bar for dinner. The daily soup was cream of mushroom ($4 for a cup) and it was absolutely marvelous - my boyfriend and I agreed it was the best cream of mushroom we've ever had. For bigger plates, we ordered the Pulled Pork pizza ($13) complete with tomato sauce, cheddar cheese, pulled pork, and jalapenos, as well as the charcuterie board ($15 I believe). The charcuterie was lovely and came with a great selection of meats. The pizza was also phenomenal, although smaller than I would have hoped. Service at the bar was average, although it was later in the night and, well, it's still bar service. Total bill per person was about $50, but we had a number of beers throughout the night so that's not entirely reflective of the cost. TL;DR: Great food, although a little pricier than it should be. Lovely selection of beers (would have preferred more with higher ABVs, however - they had one stout on the menu that we were tempted to try but it was only like 5% or something). We came from out of town to check out the brewery. The in-doors bar/restaurant was absolutely packed and so we tried the outdoor tent area. The outdoor menu is very limited outside and the wait was still about half an hour for food (but shorter for beer and much less than the wait for seating indoors). We got chicken, pickled vegetables and portabello burgers and beer of course. Everything was decent except the pickles which were non-edible. Recommend buying tour tickets in advance because they do sell out. There were a lot of families with children at the brewery that day but I don't think that they're allowed on the tour. If you have time, Treman state park is right around the corner with amazing hiking and waterfalls. This was such a fun trip overall, would try again! read more

I'm glad we got here right at opening as it seemed to be a popular stop. They took extensive lengths to protect both customers and employees during Covid installing several dividers in lots of places. The staff was friendly and welcoming and when we couldn't order a flight due to Covid, the bartender sold us on some half pints which was a good compromise. I was at the brewery today for lunch. To say that the wait staff is indifferent is a compliment. The food was just meh. They are using marinara sauce instead of ketchup, which is crazy. I paid $18 for a SMALL burger and a few fries and couldn't even get actual ketchup. The beer was okay, but not worth the price. To boot, they add 20% gratuity to the bill automatically. Cooled off at this brewery after doing a hike near the nearby gorge in Ithaca. This brewery was packed, but luckily they had a lot of outdoor seating with tents set up so we weren't sitting out in the sun. There's also a bar outside, so it makes getting drinks and snacks a lot easier. The outdoor bar has more limited options than inside, but still way less crowded. I opted for the apricot/fruity beer that was really refreshing and not too sweet. I gave it a 4, but it wasn't for the beer. Their food is way better than any other brewery I've been to in New York, The Midwest, and Colorado. Delicious food with locally sourced Ingredients. We were pleasantly surprised. As for their beer selection, they offer kolsch, IPA, but brown ale, pale ale, wit beer, but no stouts or porters. I get it. I came in the summer, but many breweries offer at least one stout or porter. Their flagship flight is a sure bet for someone not yet acquainted with this brewery. We stopped here on our weekend getaway to Ithaca. Brought a blanket, some lawn chairs, board games; there was a lot of space to spread out and cute string lights when it got a bit darker. The lights only spread so far though, so definitely get closer to the building. There's the cutest spot in the corn fields too but it's a hot commodity so get to it quickly! It did seem like a very "college" space but overall a good laid-back atmosphere. We went on a Saturday and waited about 30 minutes on a long line outside which was a bit annoying but they were trying to monitor how many people were going in I guess. There was also a wait to get food and drinks (as per COVID rules, you have to purchase food with alcohol), but they had a separate line just for drinks which sped up the process after you first order. We each ordered burgers, and it was honestly a bit pricey for what it was. The chicken sandwich was advertised outside and sounded really delicious- , but it came out all blackened and not when I was waiting on the line but it was all blackened. But in the end $12 for a cider was just not worth it for me! The other sad thing was that pets are not allowed on the premises! :( read more

We came on a Beautiful Friday night at 6:00 PM so of course we expected a wait. After 35 minutes we were told to go grab a table in the field. The tables were well spaced out and they are doing a great job following all the Covid-19 rules. We ordered a Flower Power and a Haze Days. We also ordered the Poutine which was served cold and not worth the money. We also went to another tent and order Pizzas which were fantastic. We were pleasantly surprised at just how good the Pizza was. The beers are pretty good to average but we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the pizza more than anything. A hot summer day, a flight to Ithaca with towering cumulus clouds all around; the Ithaca Farmers Market, Ithaca Beer Co and flying back to Buffalo. That was my Sunday and it was pretty glorious. Ithaca Beer Co. is a little outside of the small downtown area, but the area is huge. It feels like you're parking on a farm somewhere, but you walk into a huge building with a large restaurant room/bar, outside patio and the closed off production facility. We asked to be seated outside and there was about a 15 minute wait. They had those vibrating buzzers ready in hand and the wait was welcome, while my friend enjoyed a beer and we played some shuffleboard. Yes, they have shuffleboard! Bars/breweries with shuffleboard definitely get an extra star in my book (and as I wrote this, I just increased Ithaca Beer Co from 4 to 5, because come on -- it's amazing!). When we were finally seated outside, I ordered a soup and a burger. The soup was a summer chilled beet/yogurt mix and it was the most delicious chilled soup I've had all season. My only regret was ordering a cup instead of a bowl. It was so glorious. The burger came fairly soon after. It looked small, but elegant and crafty. Probably 6-8oz. The roll was delicious and locally baked a few blocks away with some farm fresh meat cooked medium rare to perfection. It was a really satisfying burger with lots of flavor and not so huge as to totally knock you off your wits (after all we had to fly back to Buffalo!). The fries were crispy and right and even the ketchup was housemade (it was a lot sweeter and tangier and seemed like it was made with some fresh tomatoes, although I didn't confirm). Beautiful space a short drive from Ithaca, I stopped by after an afternoon hike at Buttermilk Falls. Tons of outdoor seating, 2 different areas serving beer and food (the far one has a smaller beer/food selection). I misunderstood the buy first beer with food and then you don't have to buy food again so I ordered double the food oooopppsss ;) I had the poutine fries with the Raspberry Soirée beer - both were delicious. Then I had the standard cheeseburger and OMG this was without a doubt one of the best burgers I've ever had. I think maybe it had bone marrow in it?! Either way, bb burger.
