I went on a Monday later in the evening and it was easy parking in front of the church and most businesses in the area were closed so it was quiet. Highly recommended and very reasonable for a quality massage. My one tip would be, don't schedule your massage if you already plan to go out to dinner directly after. I am new to the massage world and have only gotten a few in my life. I am in my 20's and have only gotten a few relaxing spa massages to treat myself. Recently, my job requires a lot of standing, neck, and shoulder work so i've been more and more in pain/ tense. I wanted a massage that really worked out my knots versus one of those frilly spa massages. The therapist definitely knew what she was doing and where my problem areas were. She was always asking how the pressure was. I really appreciated this because for me, it's hard to speak up but also different areas can handle different pressures. If its your first time, you fill out this paper specifying where it hurts and where you like to be worked on. I got worked on by Vy(sorry if I get your name wrong!!!!) and she was very nice! I talked to my boyfriend after and asked if he had to remove his clothes, because I did, and he said no so that was kind of odd... There was also a point where the masseuse Was working on my calf with one hand while I was face down and it seemed like she got distracted...... (like when you're trying to text and do something) because she was working with one hand and then after a few minutes she started using two again, so that was odd as well... I've been meaning to do a review on island therapy massage, more specifically Maria. I actually found her on yelp. The therapist that I Used to see for years moved to the mainland so I was forced to find a new one. I have been to a lot of therapist and I'm very picky about where I spend my money. Called Maria and got a same day appointment. I was shocked and had to make sure she was talking about the same day. Found her place just fine, parked right in the front, and was greeted with a smile and some conversation. Now to the good stuff. I have a stressful job and do a lot of driving. I always have neck and back pains and that's why I get massages so often. She asked where I was feeling pain and worked everything out. Pressure was just the way I like it. Conversation was great. The atmosphere there is fine just the way it is. It's mot like she is advertising the place as a 4 diamond spa and resort. The place is clean! I have seen her a bunch of times already and would consider myself a regular. She is always willing to accommodate my busy schedule and her prices can't be beat for the type of service you get! I wish I could go more often because I always feel so refreshed after seeing her. To those people with negative reviews. I understand that everyone has an opinion, but you are a paying customer. If something doesn't smell right or if it's too hot. Or maybe the pressure isn't right, than say something. After all, you are paying for a service. I had a migraine the other day due to too much stress & muscle tightness, so Yelp came to the rescue when I went looking for some trigger point therapy. I went to Island Therapy's website, using it to request an appointment, and quickly received an email offering a 2pm appointment--perfect. After I confirmed it, I received a text with address and parking instructions, all of which were spot on. The studio is small but very pleasant and spotlessly clean, including the restroom. A very nice lady, Debbie, was my therapist and she greeted me promptly at 1:45, as requested. She asked the right questions, feeling my back as she went before I proceeded to the massage room. The room was very nice; AC cooled, super dark, quiet but with pleasing music. Debbie got to work and was very sensitive to my reaction to her pressure, asking me if I was okay and telling me to let her know if anything hurt--she quickly dialed in on my needs. I decided to be a bit more brave than usual, asking her to go a bit harder to work the knots out of my back. It hurt in a good way, and my muscles and head are much better for the session. I have been travelling with my wife for nearly 8 weeks and my lack of stretching and proper exercise had resulted in my thoracic spine giving me so much grief I was having trouble sleeping. Had an awesome 60 minute session with Debbie, who was surprisingly strong and I loved the amount of pressure she was able to put into the entire deep-tissue massage. I also liked that she specifically targeted and focused on only the areas that really needed work (I've got a ton of knots in my shoulders and back). To top it off she's really spunky and conversational throughout the entire process so we shared a ton of laughs and stories as well. I really appreciated that after the massage was over she took the time to show me a few daily exercises I could start implementing into my routine to strengthen by scapula area and ideally not need massage work as often. I don't write a lot of Yelp reviews...mostly because I'm busy doing other things. I do use them quite a bit when I travel (a lot) so when I encounter a really great business on Yelp I try and make sure to "pay it back" to the community by making note of it. Long story short, I found this business on Yelp when traveling to Hawaii and had an exceptional experience from start to finish. My work schedule caused me to reschedule my appointment at the last minute and Maria went above and beyond to accommodate me. When I did have my appointment (90min massage) I found her office easily and proceeded to receive a wonderfully relaxing (yet therapeutic) massage. I put the massage I received on par with any I have received at a 4 star resort. If you are traveling on business like I was and don't have a lot of free time I strongly recommend a massage with Maria before you head to the airport. This is located on top of a church off of Queen St right by Ward Ave. Parking is really easy, but id expect on Sundays for it to be a little tough. I have been dancing all of my life and currently now in the service industry, I'm on my feet for 5+hrs daily. This is not a little pressure here and there "routine" type massage. You are asked CONSTANTLY if the pressure was ok for each part of your body. Maria was spot on. She asked where I hurt the most and really concentrated on those areas. This review is so long overdue! I've been coming to this place for about a year or so. This is the best place to get a massage on the island! They even won Hawaii's best massage last year! Maria and staff are excellent! They are all knowledgeable on how to best help loosen knots in your problem areas! They do their best to check in with you, make sure the pressure is ok (more or less), if the AC temperature is not too cold. This is not your average feel good massage, but you do feel sooooo good after it's over. I'm a "hurt-me-so-good" kinda girl, but it's worth it in the end. Parking is limited in the front, as they are above a church. Come early, come late, there's usually something available. They have a range of times that they are open. One of the selling points to me, they are open LATE! Perfect for those 8-5, M-F jobs. Also open till 9 on SUNDAYS (where else can you find that?!) Check out the website for exact times. I absolutely love that Maria is available and up to date with technology. You can book an appointment online (even pay online before you come in) email, phone or if you're like me, just text her. I texted in order to check the availability, Maria the owner has answered quickly and accommodated us within the short notice and booked me and my pregnant sister for a 90 minute deep tissue massage. My masseuse Ali was great! She is very knowledgeable, professional and strong therapist. She listened to my concerns and was attentive. Asked me about pressure, my comfort even the temperature in the room. Which was all really good. I'll be definitely coming back, totally loved the experience with this place. For the record, I had Debbie, and I'm wholly certain she untied each knot I had, (which for the record, I never understood why the expression goes like that. How can muscles get tied into knots?) nevertheless I felt renewed. I'd actually go as far to say that it won't be a relaxing experience as you're going through it. I get the idea everyone here has the mindset to correct whatever's wrong with your body, immaterial of how relaxing it will or will not feel during. In some ways it reminded me of the aggressive rehab I went to to get my arm up to speed after I broke my wrist and got the cast off. Another stellar massage at Island Therapy! This place is not your average massage place. No frilly spa things here, just outstanding massages! We come to Hawaii often. Unfortunately, last visit to the islands I waited until the last moment to book with them and I was sad to hear that they were full on our only available night. We've ended up booking with another massage place down town Honolulu that was not as skilled nor professional as Island Therapy. I've learned my lesson and contacted them as soon as I booked my tickets to Honolulu. Today, I had Darilyn. Amazing! She's not only a sweetheart but her hands and knowledge of the body and muscles stood out as she moved to loosen my tensed muscles. Thank you Darilyn. I appreciate you! My husband had Debbie. He is athletic and certain moves puts pressure on very specific muscles. He didn't except Debbie to be so spot on about areas. Made a last minute appointment with Maria on a Sunday night at 8:40pm. She was able to accomodate me for a 9:00pm appointment. I opted for the 1 hour massage, and it was great! I went in because my lower back was bothering me from a lower back injury, and this in turn caused my upper back and neck to also hurt. Maria lets you choose how long you want her to work on a certain area. I chose to have my back worked on for 45 minutes, and the rest of my body for 15 minutes. She kept to the agreed time, and help solve some of my pain. The pain in my neck and upper back completely went away, and I was able to have a good nights sleep. My lower back felt a lot better, I didn't expect it to go away completely, because I am still going to physical therapy for this problem. All in all, it was a great experience. side note: I went on a Sunday night, so parking was not a problem. There are not too many stalls to park in, so I can imagine during the day parking could be a problem. Also the stalls are kind of narrow, my full size truck would have a difficult time fitting into them. read more

I was on island for business and my last appointment of the day cancelled. I had a few hours to kill before my red eye. I didn't have beach gear. So beach wasn't a good idea. Didn't want go get stuck in traffic, so I didn't want to go for a longer drive.....hmmmm what to do? Massage was the answer, but where? I'm not interested in going to a spa, I just want a massage. I moved to Honolulu about 6 months ago and needed a good massage therapist. Maria responded very quickly to my inquiry and went out of the way to accommodate my request for an appointment. She really knew what she was doing and did a great deep tissue massage. I usually request men because they are stronger, but Maria was just as strong and she hit all the spots. About 2 months ago, I got hurt by an unlicensed massage therapist at the establishment across the street, likely untrained and caused neck pain for about 3-4 weeks, until I went back to CA and saw my previous massage therapist/chiropractor who realigned me. Be very careful who you choose, always go with someone licensed and trained properly. If uncertain, ask for their papers and take a picture of it if they pull it out of a drawer. As someone who has had massage therapy for 4 years at least twice a month and know the difference, you will be in expert hands with Island Therapy. read more
