My daughter was in dire need of a massage due to muscle aches and reached out to island therapy to schedule a next day appointment. Maria was prompt in responding and was able to get us a next day appointment. Intake was quick and the massage was well enjoyed. My daughter felt relief immediately after her massage. Maria knew what she was doing and communicated to my daughter areas of muscle tightness, etc. The rooms are clean. This is a simple massage office, nothing fancy but practical and gets the job done. Prices are fair and you truly get what you pay for. I appreciate Maria and her knowledge. I'll be bringing my daughter here consistently for massages. Mahalo, Maria. read more

After trying several different places, I finally found a massage studio that I like -- Island Therapy. It's not "spa-like," so if that's what you're looking for, this isn't the place. However, if you want a solid massage in a studio that's convenient and clean, I think you'll like Island Therapy. I've been seeing Mai for about a year. She's a very skilled massage therapist -- don't let her small frame fool you, she's strong and really knows how to work out knots. She's also an intuitive therapist; she always seems to know exactly where I'm hurting. I should mention that Mai's massages lean therapeutic rather than relaxing, so if you're looking for something more soothing, let her know beforehand. I have an old injury, and her massages have made a real difference -- I used to have a constant, dull ache, but since seeing her once a month, I haven't had any issues. Booking is done through text, and I usually hear back within 20-30 minutes -- very convenient. I also think her prices are very reasonable, especially given her level of skill. I once saw a massage therapist who charged $350 for a two-hour massage -- great massage, but not sustainable long-term. Island Therapy's prices are reasonable enough that I can keep up with monthly massages. As for the space, the office is in a nondescript building, After you book your massage they'll send you instructions on entering the secured building. Parking is free and convenient. read more

Mai is INCREDIBLE. I prefer very strong, deep pressure massage as I carry a lot of tension in my neck, upper back and shoulders. I also have a very tight IT band due to a desk job. I requested this type of massage when scheduling it and Mai was assigned. She gave exactly the type of massage I needed! She is very experienced in Thai massage techniques, which I also prefer. I HIGHLY recommend Island Therapy and especially Mai! read more

Snagged a same day massage the day after I went on an intense hike. Maria was great! Really firm pressure where I wanted it and just enough on my super sore calves (couldn't handle the firmer pressure there). She really worked out a lot of the tension in my shoulders and neck. She hits the trigger points well to get the initial muscle release and then gets in there to work out the rest of the tension. She is super thorough and spent a decent amount of time on my head too, which I appreciated. Basic kind of ambiance but easy parking, clean and comfy rooms. Reasonable pricing, easy booking. read more

I've gotten massages here a couple of times and they never disappoint. My husband and I booked the 90 mins couples massage for trigger point and we loved every minute of it. Honestly wished we were more prepared and booked ahead of time so we could have done the 120 mins instead. They were so accommodating even though we booked last minute. During this time, I got Maria and she was great! She paid attention to the areas I mentioned and worked on them well. I left feeling relaxed. My husband got Mai. She is also great! I always recommend Mai to anyone looking to release those stubborn knots. I booked with her a few times before and she got a really bad back ache (due to carrying something heavy) to go away. Due to that reason, I will never forget her! (: read more

Went for a massage for the first time in this place & I was very pleased with my massage therapist Mei.

I've got multiple injuries from playing sports and getting older they take longer to heal. I've been suffering from a stiff neck from arthritis. Mai was able to unlock my neck. She is quite strong and very knowledgeable on methods to relieve my pain. A chiropractor only made my situation worse. Mai got right down to business. Not a single second of my one hour session was wasted. I felt I got a good value for the money. Highly recommend. read more

Travelled around the world and have had many messages .. this was a gift to me today, last minute, as I was dealing with a pinched nerve.. Maria was completely compassionate and accommodating and she accommodated me with the BEST message therapy I've ever had‼ It was not her and I'm sorry I forgot her name.. but I trust this place ‼‼‼ read more

Great massage! Kind of not friendly tho. Maybe they're friendly to their regulars. If you want a good massage, this is the place.

Incredible massage. Went for a 90m trigger point massage and Mai was so meticulous! Very thorough and payed attention to all the pressure points I didn't even know I had. I walked out feeling like a brand new person! Very clean and professional setting, excellent experience. 100% RECOMMEND. Going for a 120m next time!!!! read more

I get terrible knots behind my shoulder blades. Normally I get massages for trigger point therapy because they get so bad i have teouble breathing. I got a couples massage with my husband and I had Maria as a therapist. I don't think I've ever had someone massaging me that knows the body better than Maria. This woman is trained with macroscopic anatomy. She not only got the major knots out, but I wasn't even in pain when I left. Instead I was feeling like a giant marshmallow and I could finally breathe better! Its been about 2 weeks, and im feeling better than ever, more range of motion. I cannot wait to see what other kinds of massages this place has to offer. Plus the pricing was phenomenal! She definitely gained a lifelong customer. I recommend anyone having trouble at the big chain massage places, go see Maria. ASAP. read more

Still my go-to place for a full body massage. I told my parents about this place, and they wanted to go with me. I booked two 90 min massages for both me and my mom. To book an appointment, you can either go online or call . If they don't answer, Maria will either call you back the same day and also text you. She will text you two days before your service to confirm your appointment. When my mom and I arrived for our appointment, there are at least 5 available parking stalls in front of the establishment. I texted Maria and we walked up the stairs to be greeted by our masseuse. There is a restroom inside if you need to use it before or after your service. Also it is always good to communicate with your masseuse what areas are needed to be worked on and what level of pressure you would like before they perform the service. My masseuse was very attentive and also worked out a lot of knots on my neck and back. read more

Awesome massage therapists who actually know what they are doing and not just giving a casual rubdown in a fancy setting. This is a no-frills place but an all-around amazing quality massage experience. We're local residents and are so happy we have found this spot! read more

The two massage therapists that helped my bf and I today were very professional, hardworking, considerate and skilled! I stand by my 5-star review. They squeezed us in despite how understaffed and busy they've been -- mahalo! Note: There was a service dog in today! She was very sweet and quiet, barely noticed her. read more

I wish I could give a better review but I had scheduled an appt on the same day pretty last minute the owner Maria had emailed me and squeezed me and told me to be there at 4:25 and I knocked once as the door says then called the number on the door no answer but then she called me back a couple minutes later to apologize that she never put me in and that the massage therapist was on her way so I was waiting outside sweating for almost 25 minutes. The massage therapist finally showed up and when she had asked me what area to work on I had said my middle/upper back and not sure how she heard shoulders and that ended up being the only place she really worked on so I left with the same back pain I went in with and $48 down the drain... read more

Island Therapy is my favorite spot for a massage! Staff is very professional and attentive to your needs. At the start of the massage they ask if you have areas you want to focus on, which is so important to me since I have pain focused on certain areas I'd like them to pay more attention to during the massage. Parking is limited, but I have never had trouble getting a spot. Maria sends all the information to you which is very helpful. I always feel super relaxed and refreshed after my appointment. Highly recommend to check them out! read more

I reserved a couples massage for me and my significant other, Was able to secure a time slot, price, and directions all within the span of a few minutes. The massages were very well done and was obviously being done by professionals. Our masseuses were Mai and Amy, they both specialize in different things but I would recommend having them if possible. Will definitely be trying to make this a monthly visit! read more

Highly recommend this spot, can't say how appreciative hubby and I are for the great massage both ladies gave. read more

Terrible massage. Just used elbows to dig into any muscle or kidney. Didn't seem like she had any experience. Didn't use her hands to manipulate any muscle or fascia. Spent about an hour digging into my shoulder blades rather than working the legs. Asked for a sports massage. Definitely didn't get one...and will never return read more

Located on the second floor in what looked like an old building on Queen St. Parking is limited but my husband dropped me off. Mia used firm pressure (my request) and used a silicone cupping tool which was a first for me. I liked it so much that i bought various sizes online at Amazon. This appt was serendipitous as i thought i made the appt with another massage place where i got my facial before. Oh well, it was pleasurable and $70/hr. Reasonable as i've paid $80 for shiatsu for years. I requested the appt for a particular day/time on website and got an answer in the same day. Will return as my go to place. read more

Wow oh wow oh wow. Thank you very much Nicole. I left there and I still am on a beautiful fluffy cloud. I feel so much better and I will definitely be hitting you guys up again. Your massage was so perfect. I think we will go harder in my shoulders and let it rip on the next session. Now that I have a feel for the pressure we will advance a little more on my next visit. See you guys soon. Definitely before the years up. read more

I made an appointment through their website and showed up but no one answered the door when I arrived . There's a sign on the door that directs you to allow them a 5 minute grace period as they may be finishing up with another client before calling the phone number listed. I gave the number a call and Maria answered but didn't have my appointment on the schedule. She apologized and we were able to reschedule for a later time, no problem! Maria ended up calling me back to let me know my original appointment was confirmed for next month but what really got to me was how grateful she was that I was nice about the mix up (even though it was totally my fault) & didn't berate her earlier. Bottom line, please be kind to others. Mistakes happen and they are easily remedied. My massage ended up being fantastic. read more

This was my first time at Island Therapy. I heard about them and decided to try out a session through some extensive research that I did for my finacé's birthday gift, who has major back issues. He said he had a great experience, so I decided to book a session. I am a teacher and grad student, so I am on the computer and sitting at a desk for about 14-16 hours a day. I have a lot of tension and knots deep in my shoulder blades and neck area, which I specified. Although I received a full body message (which I didn't know I needed until the very day), the therapist I had (sorry, I wasn't told her name) focused mainly on my neck and shoulders. She was very nice and thorough, and she was gentle when she had to move certain parts of my body. I also didn't know that I would be getting the full experience! She used hot rocks, a suction cup (which I never had before, and it was SO AMAZING), and I got some thai message techniques, which I loved as well. At the end of my 60 minute session, I was feeling so relieved. My shoulder blade had this pinching pain the day and night before, which made it very difficult to sleep, but now I feel like I can sleep peacefully from how relieved and relaxed my body feels. The only "negative" point I would make is about asking about the pressure. She asked me about it in the beginning and not after that. While my body can handle a good amount of pressure, there are certain areas where I'm sensitive. IT'S NOT HER FAULT THOUGH! I know I should have said something (and thankfully she was able to tell right away. I would twitch slightly and she asked if I was okay.) I am the type of person who doesn't like to inconvenience people and feel like an inconvenience a lot, so I didn't want to stop her flow of things! (Silly, I know). That minor point did not, in any way, shape, or form, affected my overall experience because she was so quick to adjust to my needs. I don't know what I was doing before in terms of not seeing a message therapist! I will definitely be a monthly regular! read more

I just visited Island Therapy for the first time, and I highly recommend them for a relaxing, relatively more affordable massage in Honolulu. Nicole was my massage therapist, and she was fantastic. My shoulders were actually a little less crooked when I walked out compared to when I walked in (no joke!). When you first walk in, they offer you water, and offer to let you use the cute bathroom. The water was crisp and filtered, and the bathroom was cozy and clean. As a first time customer, they ask you to fill out a customer information sheet, including contact information, any problem areas (for the massage), any areas you wish for your therapist to avoid, and a pressure level (1-5 scale; I put 4 to 5). During the massage, I found that Nicole was aware and responsive to these preferences from the start. Speaking of Nicole, she was wonderful. Soon after the massage started, she asked me if the pressure level was OK. It was perfect, and it felt like I expected a "4 to 5" pressure level to feel. Whenever I get a massage, I am always worried that the temperature in the room is going to be too cold (I consider 72°F to be chilly), but it was just right. Admittedly I did get a little cold at one point, but I am on the extreme end of always cold so I can't fault them for that. TLDR; Easy free parking right out front! Looking forward to another visit! read more

Wow I am happy that I have found this place! It's located on the 2nd floor of a walk up building right on Queen street. My therapist was a Tibetan man named Lama. He mentioned to me that during the day he works at a clinic doing massages for people with injuries. My massage therapist was very intuitive and a great listener to my needs. His hands were strong and he applied just the kind of pressure that I needed to release all my knots. I felt like I was floating after the session. This by far maybe my top 3 massages ever in my lifetime! I'll definitely be back! read more

Island Therapy - Massage Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

TLDR Get a massage with Jon Bass it'll change your life. I'm working from Hawaii for 3 weeks and was in desperate need of a massage. To give you some context, I work a tech job, am pretty active, but for some reason my muscles are trash. I've had multiple massage therapists tell me that I'm an 8 out of 10 of worst they've ever seen, for no reason because I'm relatively young and healthy. Might be the way I hold stress in my body, who knows. Appointment was easy to make, they were super accommodating as with time and duration of massage. I got Jon. He's ex-military (strong AF pressure), and skilled beyond belief. I am not lying when I say this was the best massage of my life. He found spots without me saying anything, used a mix of cupping, guasha, and a million different strokes to break up my muscles. It was an hour of pain, but the best kind. I tipped him a lot, as you should too. This guy will forever be my go-to. read more

Disappointed. As a massage therapist myself, i am very choosy in finding a place to go. On the day that i went, it was a last minute appointment due to a headache caused by tightness in my neck. Island therapy was the first business that showed up with good ratings so i made contact. I specified my needs.. deep tissue or very firm swedish. Communication was very prompt and appointment was set. I was greeted by a friendly staff, introduced to my therapist and was situated for my 90min session. Once ready, my therapist came in and went straight to squeezing and poking at my neck before situating my back draping. My therapist continued at the poking and squeezing on my neck for about 10-15 minutes until i mentioned that my session was for 90min and if this would be a full body massage. He responded yes and stopped working on my neck. My therapist continued to work on me, BUT while sitting down on a rolling chair, so i didn't receive a firm swedish or deep tissue massage. One leg was given detailed attention and the other didn't. It was difficult to relax with the rolling of the chair on the wooden floors. I'm not disappointed with my therapist as we all have different techniques and modalities. I'm disappointed that after my specific request, a service was offered to me that didn't come close to what i was requesting. I would've appreciated the honesty and just letting me know that there were no therapist to match my needs. I left still feeling tight and with a headache. read more

Found this place on Yelp. Read the reviews and decided to booked an appointment online for Christmas Eve 6 pm (yeah I know, kinda selfish huh) so I thought it was booked. The lady handling the scheduling said she tried emailing and calling me back to let me know there were no masseurs available at that time. I double checked my email spams folder and had no missed calls. So I am not 100% sure if she was telling me truth or BS because she didn't get back to me in a timely manner...I really don't know. I rebooked online for day after Christmas. I showed up to the location (it is a residential apt. complex) this company is renting a 2 bd/1 bath unit and using it strictly for business (smart) since it has the street facing unit upstairs. Parking is available (thank God!) because you wouldn't be able to find any in this neighborhood (mostly auto repairs shops and bars) it just looks like residential parking stalls cuz the way it's set up. I sat in my vehicle for 5 minutes trying to figure out "how do I get up stairs?" Duh you have to be let in It started pouring down rain now. After 10 minutes, a dude parked and ran towards the gate into the residential parking and got in that way. I finally called the appt. line again and the lady said the gate should be open. Sure enough I glanced back up and it was I got upstairs (small, but clean) and a gentleman had me fill out paperwork (DO NOT give your ssn only last 4) on application. They shouldn't be asking for that kind of info for a massage Being female, It would've been nice to be told by the scheduler a head of time that my masseuse was male (but luckily I preferred male) just good customer Svc. My masseuse (Jon/John BASS) was sooo amazingly AWESOME that it almost made up for the chaotic and weird initial "booking and arrival" I just experience. ‍ I choose the "trigger massage" with Mr. Bass. He worked out all my holiday and work stress knots under my shoulder blades. I knew pressure needed to be strong (because my knots were bad) I left feeling "instant relief" in my back. I drank tons of water and next morning I was sore but good kind pain. It been a couple days and back feels great still. I already recommended Mr. BASS (or bad ass!!!) to 2 ppl. I will be returning to see him soon. $65 for an hour is budget friendly for me. Mahalo much Mr. Bass! read more

Thank you very much for the massage. My mother really enjoyed it and she said it really relaxed her body. I quote "I've never felt a massage quite like this before"! My mom had a minor stroke on her left side and she was recommended to have a deep tissue massage and this is how i found Island Therapy Massage, because of the reviews on Google and Yelp, i thought we should check it out and we are here for the second time. That's how good the massages are. Her massager, Sandi, did a thorough massage of her whole body. Island Therapy is located on the 2nd floor, there is no elevator, but a nice wide stairs. You will need to knock once you're at the door to inform the ladies that you're here. There are 3 rooms for the massage sessions. A bathroom is also available. If you're a first time client, you will need to fill out a form. Basic questions, and you can let them know of areas that you don't want them to massage. The rates are: $65/60 mins $90/90 mins $130/120 mins $40/30 mins (Plus taxes) Always good to arrive early so that way you can prepare yourself for the massage session. Filling paperwork, taking your clothes off (or leave it on), and getting yourself situated for the massage session. There is free parking in the front of the building. The buidling is like a hidden little gem, so you will need to actually be on the lookout when you're driving down Queen St. if you're not familiar with the area. I highly recommend Island Rherapy massage to anyone who needs a massage. read more

I got a deep tissue massage in Malaysia about a month ago and had been having lower back pain ever since I got back to Hawaii. I was fed up with the pain and messaged Island Therapy via Yelp to book an appointment. Maria responded within 10 minutes and was able to accommodate me for a 6pm appointment the same day. Parking was easy, right in front of the building and free. The entrance is on the side of the building and up the stairs. Debbie was my masseuse. She was really friendly and offered me a cup of cold water. She found some knots in my back that she massaged out. In addition to the bad massage I had overseas, she said my pain had to do with my diet and I shouldn't eat so much fatty foods. I believe it. I had been eating a lot of cheese, bread, and crackers. At one point she was pressing too hard, but she explained that she had to get the blood flowing in that area because it's all stuck and it's not circulating well. She showed me how to do it myself on my arms and said to do it frequently to help with circulation. Honestly, I haven't been doing it. I would rather have someone do it for me. After my massage, I went home and googled massage therapy for better circulation. It does help to improve circulation and some medical conditions such as high blood pressure, which I have had issues with from time to time. My back hurt for a few days afterwards, but it was a good kind of hurt. I'd compare it to the pain that you get after exercising like lifting weights or performing aerobic moves that your body is not used to. Yes, I would recommend this place. read more

Truly, the best massage I've ever received. Maria was so concerned with pressure, air temperature, and trigger points. She focused on what my individual body needs (scapular muscles). She is extremely talented in healing your body if you feel tight in some areas. I can't recommend this place enough. And I've gone to more than 7-8 different places all over SoCal. Island Therapy beats them all. I can't wait to come back. read more

Kalika surprised me with her massage by hitting all of my pressure points and even made my feet tingle when she was massaging near my spine. She massaged my neck and shoulders to help improve my blood flow and also gave me a full body massage to help with my recent mini-stroke. Not sure if it was her massage but my right ear finally cleared after over a month of trying by using the techniques after being in an airplane. I definitely want to come back for a "monthly maintenance massage" and will urge my friends to do so too. read more

Walked in tense and stressed. Walked out like a melted butter. Maria- you are gifted and so talented. Will be coming back very soon.

Been to this location several times and will be incorporating visiting them into my monthly routines! Maria the owner is pleasant & very communicative about times and if she's not able to get to her books calling you back promptly. The website gives you the option of pre paying or you're able to pay at the location. ONLY COMPLAINT is parking, but really there's no great parking downtown. Arrive a little early so you can find a spot in front or down the street. Once you arrive at the building walk down the alley (looks like residential) and the first stairway on your left is where you ascend into massage heaven. My husband and I have both gone now and had such amazing experiences. I had a 90 minute deep tissue & I'm pretty sure she worked out knots I had for years. Even though it was deep tissue and the pressure I asked for, she constantly made sure I was comfortable and handling the massage well. My husband went in several times for Swedish/medium pressure with Mai (I believe that's the spelling) & was able to alleviate a chronic back pain in just a few sessions. Her attention to the type of massage and stretching that was needed for the best result is just proof of why this business does so well. We will continue as loyal customers & are looking forward to our next sessions! read more
