Snagged a same day massage the day after I went on an intense hike. Maria was great! Really firm pressure where I wanted it and just enough on my super sore calves (couldn't handle the firmer pressure there). She really worked out a lot of the tension in my shoulders and neck. She hits the trigger points well to get the initial muscle release and then gets in there to work out the rest of the tension. I've got multiple injuries from playing sports and getting older they take longer to heal. I've been suffering from a stiff neck from arthritis. Mai was able to unlock my neck. I get terrible knots behind my shoulder blades. Normally I get massages for trigger point therapy because they get so bad i have teouble breathing. I got a couples massage with my husband and I had Maria as a therapist. I don't think I've ever had someone massaging me that knows the body better than Maria. This woman is trained with macroscopic anatomy. She not only got the major knots out, but I wasn't even in pain when I left. Still my go-to place for a full body massage. I told my parents about this place, and they wanted to go with me. I booked two 90 min massages for both me and my mom. To book an appointment, you can either go online or call . If they don't answer, Maria will either call you back the same day and also text you. She will text you two days before your service to confirm your appointment. When my mom and I arrived for our appointment, there are at least 5 available parking stalls in front of the establishment. I texted Maria and we walked up the stairs to be greeted by our masseuse. There is a restroom inside if you need to use it before or after your service. Also it is always good to communicate with your masseuse what areas are needed to be worked on and what level of pressure you would like before they perform the service. I wish I could give a better review but I had scheduled an appt on the same day pretty last minute the owner Maria had emailed me and squeezed me and told me to be there at 4:25 and I knocked once as the door says then called the number on the door no answer but then she called me back a couple minutes later to apologize that she never put me in and that the massage therapist was on her way so I was waiting outside sweating for almost 25 minutes. Mia used firm pressure (my request) and used a silicone cupping tool which was a first for me. I liked it so much that i bought various sizes online at Amazon. There's a sign on the door that directs you to allow them a 5 minute grace period as they may be finishing up with another client before calling the phone number listed. I gave the number a call and Maria answered but didn't have my appointment on the schedule. She apologized and we were able to reschedule for a later time, no problem! This was my first time at Island Therapy. I heard about them and decided to try out a session through some extensive research that I did for my finacé's birthday gift, who has major back issues. He said he had a great experience, so I decided to book a session. I am a teacher and grad student, so I am on the computer and sitting at a desk for about 14-16 hours a day. I have a lot of tension and knots deep in my shoulder blades and neck area, which I specified. Although I received a full body message (which I didn't know I needed until the very day), the therapist I had (sorry, I wasn't told her name) focused mainly on my neck and shoulders. She was very nice and thorough, and she was gentle when she had to move certain parts of my body. I also didn't know that I would be getting the full experience! She used hot rocks, a suction cup (which I never had before, and it was SO AMAZING), and I got some thai message techniques, which I loved as well. At the end of my 60 minute session, I was feeling so relieved. My shoulder blade had this pinching pain the day and night before, which made it very difficult to sleep, but now I feel like I can sleep peacefully from how relieved and relaxed my body feels. The only "negative" point I would make is about asking about the pressure. She asked me about it in the beginning and not after that. While my body can handle a good amount of pressure, there are certain areas where I'm sensitive. IT'S NOT HER FAULT THOUGH! I know I should have said something (and thankfully she was able to tell right away. I would twitch slightly and she asked if I was okay.) I am the type of person who doesn't like to inconvenience people and feel like an inconvenience a lot, so I didn't want to stop her flow of things! (Silly, I know). That minor point did not, in any way, shape, or form, affected my overall experience because she was so quick to adjust to my needs. Wow I am happy that I have found this place! It's located on the 2nd floor of a walk up building right on Queen street. My therapist was a Tibetan man named Lama. He mentioned to me that during the day he works at a clinic doing massages for people with injuries. My massage therapist was very intuitive and a great listener to my needs. His hands were strong and he applied just the kind of pressure that I needed to release all my knots. I felt like I was floating after the session. I just visited Island Therapy for the first time, and I highly recommend them for a relaxing, relatively more affordable massage in Honolulu. Nicole was my massage therapist, and she was fantastic. My shoulders were actually a little less crooked when I walked out compared to when I walked in (no joke!). When you first walk in, they offer you water, and offer to let you use the cute bathroom. The water was crisp and filtered, and the bathroom was cozy and clean. As a first time customer, they ask you to fill out a customer information sheet, including contact information, any problem areas (for the massage), any areas you wish for your therapist to avoid, and a pressure level (1-5 scale; I put 4 to 5). During the massage, I found that Nicole was aware and responsive to these preferences from the start. Speaking of Nicole, she was wonderful. Soon after the massage started, she asked me if the pressure level was OK. It was perfect, and it felt like I expected a "4 to 5" pressure level to feel. Whenever I get a massage, I am always worried that the temperature in the room is going to be too cold (I consider 72°F to be chilly), but it was just right. Admittedly I did get a little cold at one point, but I am on the extreme end of always cold so I can't fault them for that. TLDR; Easy free parking right out front! TLDR Get a massage with Jon Bass it'll change your life. I'm working from Hawaii for 3 weeks and was in desperate need of a massage. To give you some context, I work a tech job, am pretty active, but for some reason my muscles are trash. I've had multiple massage therapists tell me that I'm an 8 out of 10 of worst they've ever seen, for no reason because I'm relatively young and healthy. Might be the way I hold stress in my body, who knows. Appointment was easy to make, they were super accommodating as with time and duration of massage. I got Jon. He's ex-military (strong AF pressure), and skilled beyond belief. I am not lying when I say this was the best massage of my life. He found spots without me saying anything, used a mix of cupping, guasha, and a million different strokes to break up my muscles. It was an hour of pain, but the best kind. Disappointed. As a massage therapist myself, i am very choosy in finding a place to go. On the day that i went, it was a last minute appointment due to a headache caused by tightness in my neck. Island therapy was the first business that showed up with good ratings so i made contact. I specified my needs.. deep tissue or very firm swedish. Communication was very prompt and appointment was set. I was greeted by a friendly staff, introduced to my therapist and was situated for my 90min session. Once ready, my therapist came in and went straight to squeezing and poking at my neck before situating my back draping. My therapist continued at the poking and squeezing on my neck for about 10-15 minutes until i mentioned that my session was for 90min and if this would be a full body massage. He responded yes and stopped working on my neck. My therapist continued to work on me, BUT while sitting down on a rolling chair, so i didn't receive a firm swedish or deep tissue massage. One leg was given detailed attention and the other didn't. It was difficult to relax with the rolling of the chair on the wooden floors. I'm not disappointed with my therapist as we all have different techniques and modalities. I'm disappointed that after my specific request, a service was offered to me that didn't come close to what i was requesting. That's how good the massages are. Her massager, Sandi, did a thorough massage of her whole body. Island Therapy is located on the 2nd floor, there is no elevator, but a nice wide stairs. You will need to knock once you're at the door to inform the ladies that you're here. There are 3 rooms for the massage sessions. A bathroom is also available. If you're a first time client, you will need to fill out a form. Basic questions, and you can let them know of areas that you don't want them to massage. The rates are: $65/60 mins $90/90 mins $130/120 mins $40/30 mins (Plus taxes) Always good to arrive early so that way you can prepare yourself for the massage session. Filling paperwork, taking your clothes off (or leave it on), and getting yourself situated for the massage session. There is free parking in the front of the building. The buidling is like a hidden little gem, so you will need to actually be on the lookout when you're driving down Queen St. if you're not familiar with the area. Found this place on Yelp. Read the reviews and decided to booked an appointment online for Christmas Eve 6 pm (yeah I know, kinda selfish huh) so I thought it was booked. The lady handling the scheduling said she tried emailing and calling me back to let me know there were no masseurs available at that time. I double checked my email spams folder and had no missed calls. So I am not 100% sure if she was telling me truth or BS because she didn't get back to me in a timely manner...I really don't know. I rebooked online for day after Christmas. I showed up to the location (it is a residential apt. complex) this company is renting a 2 bd/1 bath unit and using it strictly for business (smart) since it has the street facing unit upstairs. Parking is available (thank God!) because you wouldn't be able to find any in this neighborhood (mostly auto repairs shops and bars) it just looks like residential parking stalls cuz the way it's set up. I sat in my vehicle for 5 minutes trying to figure out "how do I get up stairs?" Duh you have to be let in It started pouring down rain now. After 10 minutes, a dude parked and ran towards the gate into the residential parking and got in that way. I finally called the appt. line again and the lady said the gate should be open. Sure enough I glanced back up and it was I got upstairs (small, but clean) and a gentleman had me fill out paperwork (DO NOT give your ssn only last 4) on application. They shouldn't be asking for that kind of info for a massage Being female, It would've been nice to be told by the scheduler a head of time that my masseuse was male (but luckily I preferred male) just good customer Svc. My masseuse (Jon/John BASS) was sooo amazingly AWESOME that it almost made up for the chaotic and weird initial "booking and arrival" I just experience. ‍ I choose the "trigger massage" with Mr. Bass. He worked out all my holiday and work stress knots under my shoulder blades. I knew pressure needed to be strong (because my knots were bad) I left feeling "instant relief" in my back. Kalika surprised me with her massage by hitting all of my pressure points and even made my feet tingle when she was massaging near my spine. She massaged my neck and shoulders to help improve my blood flow and also gave me a full body massage to help with my recent mini-stroke. I got a deep tissue massage in Malaysia about a month ago and had been having lower back pain ever since I got back to Hawaii. I was fed up with the pain and messaged Island Therapy via Yelp to book an appointment. Maria responded within 10 minutes and was able to accommodate me for a 6pm appointment the same day. Parking was easy, right in front of the building and free. The entrance is on the side of the building and up the stairs. Debbie was my masseuse. She was really friendly and offered me a cup of cold water. She found some knots in my back that she massaged out. In addition to the bad massage I had overseas, she said my pain had to do with my diet and I shouldn't eat so much fatty foods. I believe it. I had been eating a lot of cheese, bread, and crackers. At one point she was pressing too hard, but she explained that she had to get the blood flowing in that area because it's all stuck and it's not circulating well. She showed me how to do it myself on my arms and said to do it frequently to help with circulation. Honestly, I haven't been doing it. I would rather have someone do it for me. After my massage, I went home and googled massage therapy for better circulation. It does help to improve circulation and some medical conditions such as high blood pressure, which I have had issues with from time to time. My back hurt for a few days afterwards, but it was a good kind of hurt. Maria the owner is pleasant & very communicative about times and if she's not able to get to her books calling you back promptly. The website gives you the option of pre paying or you're able to pay at the location. ONLY COMPLAINT is parking, but really there's no great parking downtown. Arrive a little early so you can find a spot in front or down the street. Once you arrive at the building walk down the alley (looks like residential) and the first stairway on your left is where you ascend into massage heaven. My husband and I have both gone now and had such amazing experiences. I had a 90 minute deep tissue & I'm pretty sure she worked out knots I had for years. Even though it was deep tissue and the pressure I asked for, she constantly made sure I was comfortable and handling the massage well. My husband went in several times for Swedish/medium pressure with Mai (I believe that's the spelling) & was able to alleviate a chronic back pain in just a few sessions. Her attention to the type of massage and stretching that was needed for the best result is just proof of why this business does so well. I've been doing massage therapy for almost a decade now due to injuries from sports and somehow always getting a sore neck and stiff knots in my shoulders. I had two go-to places in Hilo and when I moved to Oahu I had to start my search all over again. Finally found Island Therapy and I've never looked back. Booking is simple: you can either call or submit your request through a form on their website. You'll receive a confirmation that your request has been submitted and then normally a response that same day or the next confirming the availability. The customer service via email and text messaging could be a bit more professional but either way the important information still gets conveyed. Free parking is available out front and limited to 3 stalls but it seems that it's specifically reserved for Island Therapy so I've never had any issues. For first time visitors, the entrance is through the driveway and up the stairs that are immediately to your left, a sign will guide you in the right direction. Check in is simple with a temperature reading and a form to pinpoint specific areas to be worked on. All massage therapists that I've interacted with here have all been professional, courteous, and extremely caring. Fell asleep during my first visit and that's how you know they're doing it right lol.
