The spa is clean and nicely decorated, a comfortable environment to relax in. I have seen Pinky numerous times and recommend her highly. I've never seen any of the other therapists here, but I can vouch for Pinky. She is great at relaxing Swedish massage and also really good at deep tissue. I had to ask her to back off slightly at one point, she is definitely strong so ask for more pressure if you need, she can deliver! Pinky is friendly and has a nice calming demeanor. After the massage, there is no rush to get you out the door, hot tea and water are provided while you relax and enjoy the view. I've never been pressured to give a tip and once was told that I tipped too much and was given money back. Not something you would normally see. On a whim, as I had some time to kill, I went to get a deep tissue massage. I was lucky that I found an open spot that worked with my schedule. I wasn't sure what to expect as its located in a tall office building by Ala Moana. The studio is clean. My masseuse was great as he applied good pressure and even taught me some shoulder stretches to do as he noticed how much tension and knots I had in my neck, shoulder, and upper back. Called to see if we could do a couples massage and they were available to take us in the next 30 mins. I had pinky and my fiancé had Amy. They took really good care of us. My fiancé likes her massage on the hardest side as for me more on the medium soft side we did in our massage and both felt great at the end while the massage was going on. They were soft means of pain in the background and every so often they will check to make sure that we were comfortable and OK with the service they were providing. Came here for a romantic massage. Let me 1st say, the view here was AMAZING!! At first, we were pretty skeptical about this place trying to find the entrance. They text you a bunch of parking spaces you can park in their parking structure. You then go into the elevator (which felt like you were flying up into space lol), and walk down a hallway to their front door. It looked like a random apartment entrance, but just ring the door bell. When you walk in, you are required to remove your shoes. You walk into their waiting room and you can sit on their couch to admire the view of the ocean, Diamond Head, and the Ala'wai Canal. They provide you a cup of water/tea as you wait if you are early. I ordered the decorations for our couples room ($50). Was it worth it, I guess. but it was all for the photos because you are not allowed to take the decorations you paid for with you. They give you time to take in the scenery, take photos and videos before they remove the decorations. Massage... Whoa, very different to the massages we typically get. You just have to experience it. Just suck it up and enjoy the time. They have bars on the ceiling to hold onto while they beat you up, I mean massage you haha! Towards the end, you get the "crack" of your life... It breaks my heart to have to update my review down from a 5 star favorite for Pin Thai. I used to go to Pin Thai frequently when I lived in Honolulu, so after coming back for a work-vacay trip was so excited to try this place again after a long work month. Unfortunately I think they changed ownership or there's been a major downgrade because the bathrooms and amenities are no where as nice as they used to be. They used to have nice little towels for you to dry your hand after washing, tea to greet you, and tea and an almond cookie to bid you farewell. The day we went they served us cold water in a tea cup :(. Massage wise - I specifically requested a female masseuse and the lady whom I spoke on the phone with reassured me that all of their staff were female. But the day of my massage (when I'm already there laying on the table) I'm surprised that a guy comes in the room! I don't have a problem with male masseuses and I probably should have said something right then, but there was a miscommunication problem. On top of that, my massage was one of the most uncomfortable experiences as the masseuse used so much oil I felt like a Peking duck getting tossed back and forward. Definitely no where what a traditional Thai massage should entail. All in all - the view and price is still great. PLEASE RECONSIDER BEFORE BOOKING HERE‼ This was by far the worst experience I've had here. I've come here before and they've gone downhill. I called to book a couples appointment and was confirmed for 1 hour at 7:30pm. We arrived a few minutes early and they greeted us excitedly, walked us to our room and asked us 90min or 60min and when we said 60 the energy changed. THEY WERE ARGUING AMONGST EACH OTHER RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. It was very unprofessional and it made us feel uncomfortable. While we waited on the table we could still hear them outside the room until finally 2 ladies came in. I wish I got the name of my so called "therapist" so others know who NOT TO REQUEST. She was short with short hair and doesn't communicate very well, as the other therapist had to communicate for her. When they walked in the room, I felt her throwing towels on my table because it hit my leg a couple times. UNPROFESSIONAL. The massage was the worst one I've ever had and I've never said that about any massages I've had. I had asked if the lady who worked on me was new to this and she laughed and said "I massage 10 years". Well lady, I think it's time to surrender your license because you really don't know what you're doing. I communicated over and over again to not walk on my back and she still did. I spoke up and asked to not walk on my back more than once. I left there in more pain than I came in with. I've been here previously a couple of times and enjoyed it but unfortunately I feel like this place now lacks its luster. We just got back from a 90-minute couple's massage after a long day of traveling yesterday. We rewarded ourselves with a couple's massage, which we had Ling & Pinky as our masseuses, they found our trigger spots which was so awesome and worked their Thai techniques on us. They are both professional, strong and able to get our muscles stretched out. They kept asking, if we were ok with the pressure, so make sure you speak up if the pressure isn't hard enough or too hard. The room was calming, the music and oils smelled wonderful. I know, there are a few bad reviews recently, but remember you can't please everyone. Go have the experience yourself, as the views alone on the 38th are stunning. Been here twice now. Each time a different masseuse. The ambiance upon walking in, is already so relaxing. The lights are dimmed and there is nice music playing. I'm always here for a couples massage with my boyfriend and we enjoy it everytime! For the price, it's definitely worth it! They do also offer a really romantic couples massage for a little extra money, but we always opt for the regular couples massage. Which is just the same with out the cuteness. We had just arrived in Hawaii the night before and I called around 9am and they worked us in for a 90 minute couples massage with little notice. That alone was amazing. The room was very nice, clean and our couples room had an attached private bathroom. We took Uber but they did offer to provide parking spots. We loved the view from our room. I travel a lot for business and do massages monthly at home. My fiancé said this was the best massage she had ever had! I think my massage was in the top 5. The price was $200 for 90 minutes but half way through the massage I asked if we could extend 30 more minutes to make it a full 2 hours. For me that made such a difference! It was $295 for a two hours couple massage which I felt was super reasonable. Maybe a little cheaper than it costs back home. If this is was at a resort it would be $500 plus tip. She was smooth, applied good pressure for my deep tissue massage, and. hit my trouble spots on shoulder and upper back well. 5 stars for the massage itself. 1 star for service? Did a couples massage. The deep tissue massage was great and the service was pleasant... until the end. The massage was very strong like we wanted, and I had anticipated giving this place 5 stars and coming back regularly for more massages in the future. But the experience after the massage made me reconsider. We were asked to pay in cash, so we brought the amount stated on the website plus $10 per hour per person, about 15%, which I believe is industry standard and is on par with what I usually tip masseurs. When we gave the money after the massage, the masseuses counted it in front of us, clarified the tip amount, and turned cold. They seemed angry/upset, which was jarring because it was a sudden 180 degree change in attitude from smiling, chatting, laughing right before in the living room. They abruptly walked off to the back where they talked to each other in Chinese. It was so uncomfortable. I've never been made to feel so unwelcome anywhere. So we gathered our things and left. They didn't see us to the door, which maybe is just as well given the weird tense atmosphere. We called out goodbye as we left which they sort of acknowledged. Also, we were also told when booking that parking validation would be $2, but when we asked about it there, we were told that there is no validation. Ended up paying $12 for parking for a one hour massage. I really enjoyed the massage and I would be willing to pay more than the stated amount of ~$70/hr/person, but the costs need to be transparent. If a higher tip is expected, (e.g. to make up for low price, if the workers aren't paid appropriately and depend on tips, or some other reason,) then that needs to be communicated clearly, as does the cost for parking. As an old timer, I do truly apologize if 15% is no longer an acceptable amount to tip masseurs. I did not mean any offense if that is lower than standard. But based on some of the other Yelp reviews I'm seeing, even a 20%+ tip has been met with some hostility at this establishment. Again, I'd be willing to pay more for this quality of massage. But if more money is expected, especially beyond industry standard tip, then please just raise the prices and say what the expected tip is rather than put people through this strange angry/cold/uncomfortable experience, which feels demeaning to clients (and probably to the masseurs as well, judging by their reactions). read more

My masseuse was really nice but she kept trying to make conversation with me during my massage and I really don't like to talk during my massage because I'm trying to relax. Also the pressure she used was a little to hard and I do have bruises today. The view was exceptional though. Also minus one star because she counted the tip money as I handed to her which was tacky. It was $70 for one hour massage and I gave her $16 tip originally. After she counted it, I felt more pressure to give her more so I gave her another $2 because she was nice so $18 total in tip. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Amy, the magic masseuse and I was casually escorted to my room,(I had NO IDEA what I was in for). Folks when I tell you that I left Pin Thai a fully rejuvenated man, is an understatement. I have never in my life had a masseuse put hands, knees, feet, and elbows on me the way that Amy did. This little lady was (absolutely) phenomenal. Needless to say, I was back the very next day for a 2-hour massage. Pin Thai massage off Kalakaua on 38th floor. Not to be confused for the other massage business on the different floors of this building. So, I have contemplated writing this honest review for a few weeks now. Everyone has an "off day" so, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, I sent in two of my friends to try it out because I thought it was just my experience and had hoped it was a one off, but apparently, it's pretty consistent with some of the "masseuse" here at Pin Thai massage. Maybe not all, but most. To start, I was sat in a chair by myself to wait for my masseuse, there was a couple sitting off to a corner table drinking tea and another couple siting on a couch facing the nice view of the Ala Wai. Small living room setting. It made me feel uncomfortable when I heard the masseuse ask the couple for $200 cash and when they handed her the cash, she quickly replied, "you need to tip, this doesn't include tip". Saying it loud enough to try and embarrass them, perhaps. I have always thought that a "tip" is a gratuity that should only be paid when the service goes above and beyond the normal base rate paid.No onee should pressure you into leaving a tip, if you feel you did not receive what you paid for. That put me on edge, my masseuse was ready and in we went. So at some point my masseuse might have thought I fell asleep because she went to rub both my feet at the same time up and down, kind of like just a stroke of her hands just gliding up and down for about 40 minutes, yes I checked the clock on the cabinet they had in the room. I never actually felt like the actual massage started. It was more of a long stroke of hands gliding oil on you but never actually kneading any muscles or relieving any tension. I can relate this to the "massage" my niece gives me when she wants to make $20 after my yoga classes. There was no kneading, absolutely no " Thai technique massage" used, like the many I have had in other establishments. The bars are placed on the celing but they were not used. I hate to say it but this was the worst massage I have ever gotten in my life. I don't consider having someone glding both hands at the same time on both my feet for 40 minutes and then move to my back to spread oil and gliding up and down without applying any pressure and no kneading, a "massage". I immediately left there and went into the mall at massage palace and paid 60 for 70 minutes massage and boy, it was AWESOME. To have to leave Pin Thai massage and then go get a massage at another place is ridiculous. Like I said, I thought maybe they were having an off day. And I hoped that, that was not the norm. I shared my experience with 2 of my friends and they were so curious that they were willing to pay and find out for themselves. Boy! What a disappointment! They both had the same experience as I did. One claimed they switched masseuse on her right in middle of massage and left the room several times and a lady came in and rubbed her feet "forever" but no kneading and went to back and glided her hands to apply lotion and then quickly rubbed her shoulders and that was that. My other friend asked the masseuse to please knead her back and apply pressure and lady walked out and another lady came in and just rubbed her hands on her as if she was waxing a car on speed for a few minutes and then went to her feet. My friend paid cash and she was rudely asked for 20% minimum cash tip and she said," I paid for a 60 minute massage, lady left the room for 10 minutes while I laid there waiting and did not get a 'massage' and did not 60 minutes". Lady told her she needed to tip as it was not included in her massage price. She begrudgingly gave her $10 dollars and the lady went off speaking in her native tongue to someone in the kitchen area and never came back with her tea. Needless to say, none of us will be back to the 38th floor Pin Thai. We will however try the people upstairs on the 39th floor and hope for a better experience, on our next visit to beautiful Oahu. Service is a negative 1 star, location view of Ala Wai canal is nice. Expected a Thai massage but instead got a glide/slide motion of lotion on me that I could have received from my 6 year old niece for way cheaper and much better. The first thing we didn't like is the fact that they do not understand "too hard" when they ask about the pressure. When we arrived, the provided great service from the moment they opened the door. I had a shared room with my aunt, whom had just ran the Honolulu Marathon (26.2 miles, wow!) so she had requested with her massage person to NOT massage her feet because of the blisters she had, and later the lady ended up massaging her feet and popping her blisters. 15min into the massage, my aunt asked her lady SEVEN TIMES to go lighter on the pressure. For myself, I asked three times for my lady to go lighter during the first 15min. The rest of our massages went well, but I was worried about my cousin next door because she's not as outspoken and it was her first massage. When our massages ended, they seated all three of us on the couches in the lobby. Upon paying, my little cousin went first and it was her first ever massage, so I knew she was weary on how much to tip. The worker had a handheld paying device in her hand, and I heard my shy cousin whisper, "Umm... 20?" so I give her a head-nod in approval that $20 is an appropriate tip for more than 20%. The massage lady repeated, "$20?" the proceeded to press, "$26.50 tip" as there were pre-set buttons on the device. So my cousin ended up paying $132.50... $106 for the massage (we still don't know where that extra $6 came from) and 25% tip that the lady chose herself. Although my cousin wanted to tip $20, she would've been content with paying 20% but it's the principle that the lady chose a greater amount at my cousin's expense. My aunt was next to pay. At this point, I didn't realize the total amount my cousin was charged. When my aunt pulled her card out to pay, she saw that the massage was $106. I asked for clarification since they said it was $90 for 90min when I called, but the worker denied it, and said it was $100 (...again my fault not realizing the extra $6... weird). I went to Pin Thai Massage on my last day in Hawaii right after Koko crater hike... Let's just say it was an amazing experience with two welcoming, kind, and experienced staff members who treated us perfectly for 2 hours. Best massage in Honolulu! They provide Thai, deep tissue, and Swedish massages for a very reasonable rate. You can park in the garage and the views are amazing! Right over Ala moana and you can see Diamond head as well. I had Pinky and she was amazing. read more

Of course we came back for a second time: Making an appointment was so fast and easy, it's extremely hassle free. They make everything simple so you know exactly what to expect when you go in. I felt bad because we were running late this time, but they called and assured us that it was okay and we would not be faulted. Once we got here everyone was so kind and so helpful. They had our room set up and got us ready so quickly. They even did well with our accommodations we wrote about! We two different massage therapists than last time, but they both were amazing. They check on you and the pressure of the massage throughout the duration. They are quiet and comforting. And they make sure to take such good care while you're with them. This is always such a lovely experience and I can't wait to come back! They even told us the night experience with the city lights is even better, so that's our next feat here. I booked a couples massage for 1 hour and loved every minute. We got the corner room with immaculate views. Awful service was trying to communicate that she was going too hard/getting too close to private areas, but wasn't listening and kept going further closer. I had previous surgeries done on my legs, which are very sensitive, but she did not care and still kept trying to massage me in those places overall the experience was very uncomfortable. I was literally crying the entire time no joke and at the end we had to pay in cash so they followed us to the ATM and we gave them exact cash because you don't get a tip for that, but she made a comment saying no tip and we were obligated to tip her as she watched us from the ATM machine. read more

I have been booking couples massages with my friends here every time I come to Hawaii for over 10 years now, and there is one thing that bothers me every time. The one thing that has always bothered me is the extortionate tipping, even though we pay a 20% tip, the therapist complains that the tip is too small. The reason I am writing this review is because the attitude of the therapist was very bad and she was looking at her cell phone while she was massaging me. That attitude is unacceptable and the attitude of extorting tips is also too rude. Does the owner not pay the therapist a salary? Are tips their only income?
