Isarn Thai Soul Kitchen is one of my FAVORITE Thai restaurants on the Eastside. They have a second location in Seattle too. My favorite dishes are the PHAD SEE EIW with chicken ($16.25) and the THAI GRILLED BEEF SALAD (cooked medium) ($20.50). The PHAD SEE EIW has the perfect sauce balance of sweet and savory flavors and comes with broccoli and carrot. The noodles are super long and wide so you know they are fresh and not from the box. The THAI GRILLED BEEF SALAD definitely has a kick to it. This dish comes with raw cucumbers, carrots, onions, and basil and is served in a tangy and umami fish sauce vinegar mix. The beef is extremely tasty, tender, and well-marinated. This past visit, my friends and I also tried two new dishes that I've never had at Isarn before- their CHIANG MAI NOODLES (aka Khao Soi) ($17.25) and the MINCED LAMB WITH THAI BASIL ($16.50). The CHIANG MAI NOODLES were beautifully presented with a nest of crunchy egg noodles on top of a creamy yellow curry with soft egg noodles underneath. It was served with pickled mustard cabbage and onions for extra punch of flavor. The MINCED LAMB WITH THAI BASIL reminded me of Vietnamese larb. However, this dish was more savory and less tangy than larb and the basil really shined through. It is quite oily though so make sure to enjoy it with a side of JASMINE RICE ($2.75). Portions are generous for all dishes and I always leave with leftovers. The atmosphere is modern, clean, and trendy. It's a great place for catching up with friends and not too loud. I will say the restaurant is a bit on the darker side, but that's just how they set the ambiance. Service was good and we got our food promptly within 15-20 minutes after ordering. It took a bit of time to waive the waiter down for to-go boxes, but they were attentive otherwise. Note that Isarn doesn't take reservations and it's street parking only. However, they have a waiting list kiosk inside the restaurant and so if they're busy, you can sign up for notifications and walk around the downtown Kirkland shops while you're waiting. Isarn Thai serves up a totally unique menu of Thai food and this location in Kirkland does get extremely busy. Went on a Friday night with a group of 5 and waited about an hour before getting seated. Unfortunately, you can't join the waitlist ahead of time and when your table is ready, you gotta be RIGHT THERE as we literally walked in 30 seconds after they called us and didn't leave a message, but the staff informed us that they had given our table away. Luckily, we just got the next one available, but felt like a needlessly stressful experience. Jumbo Firecracker Prawns (4.25/5): Spring rolls and shrimp had a baby. Crunchy outside with tender shrimp and sweet chili sauce - a perfect appetizer to share. Isarn Fried Rice (4.25/5): A fried rice unlike any other. Was my personal favorite dish of the night. The rice kernels were separated into individual grains and coated in grease in the best way possible. I'm a kale hater, but the combination with salted eggs and the purposefully chewy fried steak pieces was just super delicious! Northern Style Sweet Curry (3.75/5): The curry itself is fantastic: super balanced between savory, fragrant, and sweet. The steak chunks unfortunately were just a bit overcooked and chewy. Durian Sticky Rice (4.25/5): Sticky rice has a super satisfying chew and I appreciated that the sauce wasn't overly sweet. Durian itself was sweet and creamy with just a touch funk. We visited Isarn Thai with a friend after a tea tasting in the area. We've visited the Lynnwood location before and overall had a good meal, albeit perhaps a bit too sweet, but figured this location would continue the trend of higher quality Thai food. Chiang Mai Curry Noodles ($17.25) - This dish has excellent presentation, with a large serving of crunchy fried noodles adorning boneless chicken thighs in a creamy yellowish red soup base. The thin curly egg noodles are hidden underneath all the meat. The taste is on the sweeter side, although they provide a bit of chili crisp and some lime to help balance things out. The chicken is a bit overcooked, although not too far gone, so while it's approaching being tougher in the interior, a quick soak in the broth helps moisten things. One of my friends who ordered the same dish complained that their chicken was still cold. Mine was warm but I guess they keep the pre-cooked chicken in the fridge before adding it in later so it can be hit or miss depending on how long it sits in the soup and how thick the slice is. I took some of the broth home and the next day I found it to be sickeningly sweet without the noodles and meat, similar to drinking dessert soup. (4/5) Phuket Pork Belly Stew ($17.95) - This dish has a strong pork flavor, and as with the khao soi, it's very sweet. It might be a misnomer to call this Pork Belly Stew as there is far more pork shoulder than pork belly included (probably 80+% pork shoulder). Looking at recipes online, it's supposed to be all pork belly, so I feel like Isarn does this to save on cost since shoulder is cheaper than belly. That kind of irks me given the name. If the name were just Pork Stew, I'd be fine, but I definitely expect much more pork belly since it's in the name. (3/5) Jasmine Rice ($2.75) - The bowl is about as large as that the pork stew is served in. The rice is a tiny bit too much on the moist side, so it's very soft and tender rather than giving too much texture. It's decently fragrant and is really needed for the pork stew. I feel like the food Isarn serves is a little too sweet for my preferences. Other Thai restaurants have a little better balance to their dishes, allowing some of the other flavors to be more pronounced rather just puckering sweetness. Isarn also seem to take some shortcuts in the cooking process that are detrimental to the dishes in the long term. I really enjoyed my first meal at Isarn Lynnwood a couple of years ago, but since then I feel like there's been a drop in quality. It's still not a bad choice for more modern American Thai food and I'd happily return to try some other dishes if a friend wanted to eat here. Legendary. We've been eating here for so many years now, I'm surprised I've never written a review. Isarn Thai already has a great reputation so there's not as much motivation to repeat the obvious points tied to great food, very fair prices, friendly service, and something for everyone, including cocktails and vegan offerings. It's a 5 star experience for sure, but if I had to point out any downside, it would be that this location is always busy and there can be a bit of a wait, even during off hours. Kirkland parking in this area is also not ideal, especially during bad weather (i.e. you can always find parking if you're willing to walk, but walking in bad weather makes it that much less motivating to make the trip). read more

This restaurant has just become my new favorite Thai place on the Eastside and it's largely due to one dish, their mushroom fritters! Everything else we tried was novel and amazingly good as well but you can't miss these fritters if you go! The mushrooms at light and coated with the most heavenly crispy and light batter -- heck it's a big plate to share but truth be told, I'd be happy if they were all MINEL! I visited Isarn Thai soul kitchen in Kirkland on Monday around 1:15pm with friends. We were seated by a server named Ploy. Our friends were running about 20 minutes late, so we wanted to order drinks and appetizers first. I tried waving and getting attention from Ploy and other servers for around 10 minutes, but everyone avoided eye contact and ignored us. It made us feel unwelcome and upset. After our friends arrived, Ploy finally came to take our order. I simply asked if we needed the full party present before ordering because nobody came to help us earlier. She did not answer my question, took the order, then walked away and spoke to another coworker while looking at us, which felt very disrespectful and unprofessional. This is completely unacceptable customer service. As a server, talking badly about customers in front of them is not appropriate under any circumstance. Management seriously needs to address this issue because this behavior reflects very poorly on the restaurant. If I don't see any response from management I'll keep comment it . read more

I came here with my friends (group of 6) on a Friday evening and while we had to wait for a table, the food was worth it! We didn't have to wait too long, and the staff was kind enough to combine a few tables together, since it is a relatively small space. They do not take reservations for large parties on weekends, unfortunately. We got an assortment of dishes, all of which were tasty and decently priced. Absolutely love Isarn every single time I go. Service is great; they are usually pretty quick with everything and the staff is really sweet. I absolutely love the ambiance/atmosphere, especially in the Kirkland location-- whether it's winter or summer, Isarn always hits the spot. Food is absolutely spectacular: the classic dishes such as the pad thai, soups, and papaya salad are so so good and never miss. I would recommend ordering a lot of different things for the table, especially if you're with a group of people, that way you can try something you wouldn't normally order. We really enjoy eating here and ordering takeout to go. The food quality is the same whether you eat there or take it home to go. We have been here a few times for happy hour and really enjoyed the happy hour menu and the drinks. My favorite is the mussel omelet. It reminds me of the Banh Xeo at Vietnamese places. I wish they gave you more lettuce though because it is extremely greasy. I also really like all the noodle and rice dishes, you really cannot go wrong. My husband enjoyed the snapper and would highly recommend it. Besides the food being good, the atmosphere is fun and the service is fast. The food doesn't take too long to come out and the servers are nice and attentive. It does get very busy during dinner though. If you don't want to wait, I would go during early dinner. ISARN THAI SOUL KITCHEN @ KIRKLAND SHOUTOUT TO THE MANAGER PK! This is always a go-to place. Great service and great people. Today I ordered three items from the menu, Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, and Pad Kee Mao. I had a giftcard from DoorDash so I decided to use it this time, spending about $60. I picked it up the food and brought it home. Everything tasted great until I found a piece of plastic in it. Things happen so I understand. I decided to call Isarn Thai Kitchen and a manager picked up, completely apologizing for this matter and telling me that I can get a full refund but it would be on DoorDash since that was where I ordered. I called DoorDash, one of the worst services I've ever dealt with. Going through 3 different people, they all said "Unfortunately, out of Door Dash's policy, nothing will be refunded or credited back to you". I was so devastated, what do you mean plastic in my food doesn't deserve a single credit back or anything, what's craziest is that the Manager PK of Isarn Thai was fighting FOR ME. I called back Isarn Thai Kitchen, and the manager I spoke back to PK, was absolutely shocked and angry for me, and immediately called DoorDash instead to get them to refund me. After a couple calls, DoorDash calls saying that my items were under review. In the next 24 hours that I must wait, I will get an email whether it was accepted or rejected. A step forward, but still, are you serious? I called the Manager PK back, he was so furious for me and on my side. I plan on giving PK the manager an update, extremely great manager who was on the customer's side and continued to fight to doordash. I hope Doordash fixes this issue. read more

When compared to other two items I would say this lacks the unique flavor. Quantity is adequate. I enjoy Isarn with a passion! It is my go-to spot when I'm looking for a dinner spot to show off to visitors, and it never disappoints. Some of my favorites are: Crab Fried Rice - A big portion of fried rice with crab mixed in served with sauce and sliced veggies. Crying Tiger - Delicious and tender steak that is great for sharing with the table. Pad Thai - A classic and done very well here. I love to get this with the tofu. Isarn Mini Wings - Sticky, savory, and many pieces to share with your guests. All the food is flavorful and filling and never leaves me unsatisfied. The service is very hospitable and friendly as well. Parking can be harder here as it is downtown, but it is definitely worth the trek and effort to eat here for a night out. The only downside is this restaurant location is quite loud and packed so it can be difficult to have conversation. We came around 4:30 for an early dinner and there were plenty of open tables. I expected it to be completely empty but there were still a fair amount of people in the restaurant. We loved being able to sit by the windows to people walk/see a tiny bit of Lake Washington. For entrees we ordered the crying tiger and pad see ew. The steak was delicious and had great flavor! Although I would recommend ordering a side with it if you're real hungry. The pad see ew was nearly enough for us to split so no problem there. I ordered a level 1 on spice out of 0-3 and it wasn't spicy at all. I'll definitely get a level 2 next time. The noodles were delicious but it wasn't the best I've had on the eastside. We started with lettuce wraps and they were unique with the variety of items to use in putting one together. My bride went with the Thai Tropical Curry with Salmon and really loved it. My son went with the Seafood Curry Custard and seemed to enjoy it. Ordered the mushroom fritters appetizer that was supposed to be oyster mushrooms but definitely wasn't. Very cheaply made with lots of breading and skinny pieces of mushrooms. It was pretty annoying not getting the type of mushroom we ordered. Our food came out fast and somehow my red curry was cold with hot sliced chicken on it. I'm baffled that my red curry didn't come with a side of rice and required ordering in addition. Never been to a Thai place that does that. I don't really see myself returning before trying out other Thai spots, but I'm sure it would satisfy a Thai food craving if it were to hit. Food: The steamed squid in the lime soup (HH special): too (?) flavorful. The sweetness and sourness hit you nose-scrunchingly hard, and honestly we couldn't eat too much of the soup. Squid was cooked well. Crispy mussels omelette (HH special): very crunchy, chewy on the inside. The texture was great, but even with the sauce I was craving more flavor. Pad thai: HUGE, but pretty standard. Salty crab papaya salad: the salty crab didn't add too much to the salad, I thought, and I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like the fishy flavors. Hat yai fried chicken: big chonky portions, but it was just... fried chicken? Minced lamb: surprisingly was not a huge fan of this, it just tasted sorta generic and wasn't well-balanced. Chiang Mai curry noodles: probably my favorite dish. Loved the crunch noodles on top, and the curry had good flavor. Wish there were more protein in it, as the dish was predominantly noodle. Service/ambience: Service is pretty friendly, and the ambience is quite lively. There seems to usually be a wait at dinner time and on weekends, and you have to put yourself on the queue at the kiosk in front of the store. The prices at Isarn are unbeatable. Out of all of the restaurants owned by Kin Len, this is the most affordable! Parking is difficult to find but I managed to find a spot a few blocks away. Overall, the food is pretty solid. We ordered isarn fried rice, northern style sweet curry, and isarn herbal soup. Everything was well seasoned and we loved that there were so many unique options other than the usual dishes you can get at a Thai restaurant. We did a walk-in around noon on Saturday and luckily there was no wait. It's right by the road and you can catch views of the lake, with overall chill vibes. Food was incredible, and everything we ordered is below. I was surprised by the generous portions since lunch sets are usually smaller. The Hat Yai chicken was perfectly cooked--crispy skin with juicy, tender meat. The Pad Thai was a bit sweeter than I prefer, but still flavorful. The chicken curry was amazing over rice. We even had enough leftovers to take home! Service was great and super friendly. We did ask for more and they brought us a new slab of lettuce.. the seafood salad was good.. if you like, calamari, squid, etc.... I'm not one to eat it.. my husband loves seafood and said he wouldn't order it again. We took a looong time to order, we just were indecisive. They were patient with us and tentative with us. They have a full bar. They have wonderful gluten-free and vegan entrées. Clean and tidy. There's not a lot of parking on the street so you may have to park and walk. I came because i heard the owner is the same as the owner of Kin Len (which has amazing thai food) but the food here doesn't compare. We wanted to try the prawns but they said they were out of that and recommended the deep fried beef. The deep fried beef was ok. It was just like a beef jerky with some sweet sour sauce. We also got the lamb massaman with roti which was pretty good in terms of flavor. Just really oily. The isarn thai fried rice was also pretty mid :(. The thai tea was a little too diluted for my liking as well. Overall the food was just ok but didn't live up to my expectations. Once we were seated, we pretty quickly decided what we wanted to order. However, 15-20 minutes later, no one came to check in on us. I get your busy, but not to get a drink order or bring by any water or let us know someone will be with us shortly for 20 minutes was crazy. We had to go up to the front area and ask if someone was coming to get our order and they said someone would be with us shortly. In this regard, service was truly lacking. However, once we finally placed the order, food came out pretty quickly which was really surprising, in a good way. We were hungry and ready to eat! We got the chicken pad see ew, khao so, and northern style chicken, all made to the spiciest level. The northern style curry was sweeter than I thought it would be and wasn't that great. We came for happy hour and found seats at the bar. We ordered a sparkling Lychee and a Tuk Tuk Thai Tea for drinks. We like the jelly and lychee in the sparkling lychee and like the flavor profile of the Tuk Tuk Thai Tea. For food, we ordered the lemongrass wings, the papaya salad, and the oyster omelette. This is a really cool spot. 2nd time here. I brought a whole group after church and they took great care of us! It almost feels like you've been transported to Asia. The menu is very unique and not like your typical american-thai cuisine. I've never been to Thailand but I've eaten alot of Thai food and never encountered a food experience quite like Isarn! The servers do not mention anythign but the dishes are set up in a bit of a family-style, sharing type of way. Though the food has a higher price point, the portions are huge. We all shared and I still had a full meal to take home for later. I wasn't feeling the best so I ordered a big bowl of soup and I had 1/2 of the dish left to take home. Bonus, they lost one order in translation and comp'd us another dish for free. Great service! PLEASE BEWARE that the heat levels are F*CKING HOT!! I think I got a 2** and it was literally too hot to handle. I took my spicy dish home and thinned it out a bit for amazing leftovers. I highly reccomend Isarn! read more

I've came here more than a few times now for lunch with my team and happy hour with my coworkers. Everything I've tried has been delicious. They have some unique dishes that you don't find at most Thai restaurants. Great deals during happy hour. Service is great; staff is very friendly. read more

Dropped by for dinner on a weeknight and there still was a line. Would suggest to get on the waiting list. They will not seat you until you have your full party. We ordered the eggplant salad- it came with ground chicken? And the salad was the eggplant part. Also order the curry noodle. It was so so flavorful. This was such an amazing dish. The noodles were still crispy and the chicken was fully infused with the curry sauce. The sides of pickle paired perfectly with the curry dish. We also ordered pad see ewe to go. Really appreciate that i wasn't overly priced. Location was great in downtown kirkland which is close to the water. Can't wait to come back. You don't have a single waiter but they are all happy to help if you get their attention. read more

With the density of Thai restaurants in Seattle, each person can pick their own favorite. For me, it's Isarn Thai Soul Kitchen! Walking in, Thai music filled the air, and the decorative wall shelves brought back childhood memories. If you haven't tried Isarn Thai food (from Northern Thailand), it's packed with warming spices like ginger, onion, & garlic. The Kao Soy was amazing! The spicy squid in lime soup was adventurous (warning: it's sour!), Chiang Mai sausage was good (though a bit dry), and the Somtum was delicious! The lamb skewers were okay, but pricey. Isarn Thai Soul Kitchen has been on my to try restaurants for some time, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to pay this place a visit on a nice summer day! We went to to Isarn on a Saturday around 2pm and had no wait time to get seated. Isarn is located near the downtown Kirkland area, so parking may be slightly harder on busier days. We were able to find street parking nearby, around a 3 minute walk to the restaurant. I would say that the service on the day that we went was slow, after we were seated, we didn't really get our waters till about 10 minutes in and had to gesture to a server to get our orders taken. I thought maybe its because the lunch rush was over and the servers wanted a quick break? I also ordered a cocktail, but it never came - luckily we were not charged for it. I thought the service here was pretty mediocre/leaning not good in terms of a sit down restaurant. The ambiance is nice though, there are decorations throughout the restaurant and its neat that on hot summer days that they open the larger restaurant doors so some seats can be laid out halfway outside - it really opens up the atmosphere. We ordered a couple of items, which I'll review down below: Fresh Cracked Coconut ($11): Wanted something refreshing on a hot summer's day, and what is more cooling than coconut water? As novel as having a fresh cracked coconut in Seattle is, I don't think that this should have been $11! I have tried a couple more restaurants since the time of this review and noticed that you can get cracked coconut for $5-$7 at other restaurants. I would suggest skipping this unless you're really in the mood for coconut water. Mushroom Fritters ($11): Pretty tasty Lamb Massamun with Roti ($22): The curry was delicious, had nice deep and strong hitting spice flavor, and good flavor and thickness from the coconut milk. I would say that the lamb was more on the dryer and tougher side than other similar curries that I have tried which wasn't as pleasing. If you were to eat the curry on it's own, it definitely leans on the saltier side. But it is very nice with the Roti, which had excellent flaky crispiness and soft slightly doughiness in the middle which is scrumptious. Though you will run out the roti very fast on a singular order. I would say portion size-wise this will definitely fill most people up, so if you are hungry, I would recommend this entree. I paid about $44 for everything that you see here - which is a decent price given the quantity and quality of everything that you see here. I think my main critique is that I wasn't satisfied with the service at all here - the servers were basically non-existent, and we had to flag them down to order, get more water, pay our bill, etc. I was thinking of ordering a dessert option here, but gave up after the missing cocktail and continuous flagging to order and get what we wanted here. I would say if I were to revisit, I would skip dining in, and just order to-go. read more
