Great ambiance & setting. Staff was very friendly & accommodating. The food, however, was unfortunately disappointing. For appetizers we ordered the Grilled Octopus, the Croquetas & Patatas Bravas. The Croquetas were tasteless & the octopus dish is mostly filled with beans & average taste. The Patatas Bravas were good. As for entrees, the Porkchop was decent, but perhaps the most disappointing dish was the Pollo Relleno (chicken stuffed with Ham, Gruyere & Spinach). The chicken was extremely dry & bland even a little uncooked. We actually ended up returning it. Overall this place is worth trying out. And the service in general was pretty good. However, our waitress was very inattentive. The runner was doing all the work, taking our orders, making and bringing our drinks, etc. The waitress barely came around to our table. When we paid and left, she followed us outside and, with a rude attitude, asked us if we made a mistake on our bill. We told her that she could've been more attentive and that's why the tip wasn't what it could have been. Wait-staff should NOT be following customers out of the business, trying to get a bigger tip when the whole time she couldn't be barely came by our table. My wife &I stopped at the Iron Vine in Peekskill N.Y. by chance on Friday for dinner . This was our first visit . The greeter(very friendly) informed us all the tables were busy and booked for reservations,but we could sit at the bar, and we accepted . The first bartender ( I did not get his name) greeted us promptly and helped us decide items from the menu. Our appetizers came pretty quick and where tasty , the main meal took a bit longer then expected but the place was packed . A second bartender (Obed)came behind the bar and was informative & attentive to things we asked as the first bartender started to help at the tables . When the meals came they where both very good . So this even was a pleasant surprise , the staff all friendly and pleasant, the vibe was chill, and food good , it's a win win , we will be back ...shout out to Obed! This cosy little Spanish restaurant is quite charming. The decor inside is nice despite it being small which means the noise can get a bit overwhelming when it is crowded. However that does not diminish the restaurants delicious food that they had. The avacado salad and side of black beans I had was truly a vegitarian delight. A previous viewer had said there weren't many vegitarian options and I was skeptical at first. When I arrived and looked at the menu I said why not give the side of beans a try. The quality, furthermore, is towards the industrial end of the spectrum. If tater tots squirted with some pink mayonnaise is to your taste, great, but don't call it patatas bravas. I'm not one to ever put salt on my food however you come here and hopefully you are on a low sodium diet.( PS: no salt or pepper on the tables so I did not ask) Besides the truly bland food, the fact that your feet will freeze off and they use the onion core with the sauté vegetables. The waitress is not trained in how the foods are prepared, she does not know about the sodas other then they are made with real sugar and we don't have coke ( we did not ask for coke or Pepsi we asked what sodas do you have) I will continue . We had to ask for water refills, and then had to wait with empty glasses a second time.( not cool) We were offered hot sauce house made with the steak. First time in Peekskill for a dinner and a show. So happy we were lucky enough to get a reservation for dinner before the show at Iron Vine since it was Valentines day weekend. We were early which was a good thing. We were seated right away with no issue. Service was great! The manager was wonderful. Iron Vine was a great find. We loved the creative mixed drink menu. My husband loved their old fashion. I can't remember the name of my drink but it had passion fruit juice in it and it was yummy! The meal we had was wonderful. We started with the avocado salad and a pork empanada which is one of the best I have ever had. Then came the grilled octopus and ceviche yummy! Then came the the seafood stew and pork chop with mash potatoes and tostones LOVED LOVED! So glad we had enough time to go for a walk before the show so we wouldn't fall asleep during the show. When did Peekskill become Brooklyn North? It's pretty crazy, having grown up in the area, to see a place like Iron Vine pop up 15 yrs later. Met the chef James, and he's awesome. Obsessed with local sourcing of ingredients, the space itself is also outfitted in materials (reclaimed wood, light fixtures and metal works) that come right from Peekskill. That said, the place also feels like a little slice of Seville in Westchester. Food is excellent. Ceviche, meatballs and bread pudding are particular highlights. A real game-changer in the Lower Hudson valley. read more

It's rare to have a meal that hits most of your taste buds. I expected Peekskill to be a restaurant desert, but Iron Vine proved me wrong. The paprika-dusted patatas bravas were absolutely delicious, especially with the fruit-ketchup sauce. The falafel and hummus with pickled onions was great. My friend relally enjoyed the Colombian breakfast with an arepa. The wooden and metal interior accents and the copper-topped bar lend to a warm environment. The servers are very friendly. Having moved to Croton not long ago from Brooklyn, my wife and I were very excited to try this place since seeing the write up in Westchester magazine. Unfortunately, we were pretty disappointed in the whole experience. The place was packed on a Saturday night, and we went without a reservation - so we ended up sitting right near the door, as in about a foot away from the sliding glass door. This door was constantly opening and closing letting cold air in every time. Also this table was right next to the coat rack so people were constantly passing right by us to get their coats. While the restaurant space itself is definitely very cool, the location of our particular table made a pretty bad impression. The food was pretty mediocre. Here's what we ordered: 1. The plate of 4 empanadas - the beef was very good, the others were just ok. 2. The fried potatoes were pretty much just triangle shaped french fries with a decent date flavored ketchup - this seemed like it would be fine as a side dish but not as a small plate on its own. 3. Buffalo chicken wings - just ok. 4. Albondigas (meatballs) - these were the best thing we ordered, but honestly they were just ok. We would have preferred them to have more of a sauce. Also, they took forever to come out. When we finally asked the waitress about it, she assured us they would be out momentarily. When they didn't come out for a few more minutes, it became clear they forgot about it, or the order never went in, or something. In any case when it finally did come, the waitress was very apologetic and offered this dish on the house. A few minutes later she brought out another empanada plate, which was also part of the apology from the kitchen. Again, very nice but perhaps a little overkill. We were pretty stuffed by that point and didn't really need any more food. As we were paying the check the owner came over and he was extremely nice - he acknowledged that we were at a difficult table. This would've been a two star review due to the mediocre food and challenging environment of our table, but they earned one more star by comping the meatballs and the owner coming over to say hi. Not sure if we'll go back, but in any case we are glad that this and other interesting restaurants are popping up in the area. read more

After about a 6 month break, we went back to Iron Vine this fall and boy were we disappointed. At first glance it's the same place but the menu has been dumbed down since they opened just under a year ago. There was a better selection before and the menu items were more "special". It's more limited now and when the food came out, it did not live up to the descriptions. This is pure speculation on my part, but maybe they have found their customers and realized that they need to "play down" to them. The service was still very good and I do like the ambience. They've made some improvements to the seating as well, ditching the uncomfortable high-tops for proper tables. The chairs are super ridiculously uncomfortable. It's like a half seat on a slope so that you're constantly slipping down, it forces poor posture. My boyfriend ended up just standing it was so bad. Wife and i came here to try Brunch as we were here before for an early dinner with our teenage children. Luckily we were able to get a table in a timely fashion as i forgot to make a reservation which i advise for the Sunday Brunch.. we arrived an hour after it opened and all the tables were taken and even the bar was crowded so we had to wait 20 minutes.. the food was great when we came for dinner so we were looking forward to trying brunch especially that the had bottomless mimosas option.. the brunch did not disappoint except i wish they had a brunch appetizer even though the food came out fast fresh and hot i was famished and was looking forward to see how they spun a breakfast appetizer..as with the pictures i posted everything was well presented and tasted soo good.. they had about ten different flavors of Bellini/mimosas that you can choose from i had the mango and my wife had the guava..we left there feeling very satisfied and looking to go back as soon as we can. prices are decent and service was right on!! great place to go to Peekskill!! read more

The Iron Vine is a little gem in Peekskill, NY! We went for dinner on a busy Saturday night (the place was packed!) and were able to get a table. The decor is all local materials and a lot of it is recycled materials. The food was amazing. We had the following and every plate was clean! 1) Adobo Chicken Wings - yummy! Perfectly cooked, not dry and the seasoning was great. 2) Ensalada - the beets made a great balance for the cheese. Everything was very fresh. 3) Meatballs - soooo goood. A spicy chili sauce on the outside was the perfect compliment. 4) Chicken Ajillo - Perfectly cooked bone-in chicken with the most amazing corn meal pancake that just made my day. Add broccoli rabe on top of that it was amazing. 5) Churrasco - The hangar steak was perfectly cooked medium rare. Add the puree and veggies and it had great flavor, just a bit of spice to give it a little kick. 6) Dessert Sampler - I didn't personally eat this, but I was told it was amazing. 7) Carmel Apple Empanada - This was my dessert...and it was so good. The filling was sweet, and the dough was perfectly made. Amazing up and coming hot spot. The location looks small, but all the bricks and materials used is early history NY. The bar is incredible, with great margaritas, sangria, awesome bourbon cocktails and very nice beer and wine offerings. Now the food...a bit different, but when is that ever bad. Went on a date night with the wife and was a great pick!! The food was amazing. We had falafel and hummus and some kind of chicken/potato balls dipped in habanero sauce for appetizers. Wow! Then chicken sandwich and steak with potato for main dishes. I had the steak with a chimichurri sauce...think that was in the top 3 steaks I ever had! Atmosphere is a cool vibe and old school decor. A Friday night and on the hunt for something new. Mm Iron Vine, Main st Peekskill. Let's give it a shot, 7:30 reservation and we're seated by our cordial hostess. It's a inviting storefront restaurant with, I'd guess 20 tables and a bar that seats 8 or so. There's no wasted space, but it's not crammed, it's rightly comfortable. Drinks ordered and time to check the menu. They have many smalls, BTW, it's a Spanish restaurant and tapas is a headliner. We take the bait ceviche & Salmon tostada for me and my partner, octopus & fries. Iron Vine is busy, not with diners, but staff is always on the move. They're friendly and engaging, you get the sense they really like what they do and always with a smile. I had a Sangria which was delivered my the bartender, again wit an engaging smile. Our tapas fills our table and the main event is at hand. All our dishes were very fine, but noteworthy in my book was the Salmon and Ceviche, they were exceptional and fairly sizable for tapas. Both my dishes were so tasteful, I felt I had entered a culinary heaven. We shared desert and I had a marvelous coffee delivered in a French press, nice touch, and enough for two, though I was the only coffee drinker that night, I was happy to have a 2nd. We're getting close to 9pm and the ambient sound level raised considerably. So, our timing was perfect and we soon departed, feeling happy and satisfied. Iron Vine was a stab in the dark for us and I'm so pleased we found it. The atmosphere in this little bar/restaurant was amazing. I loved all the decor, the wooden chairs, the bar stools, and even the bathroom. Everything in this place was tastefully decorated. The reason I cannot give a higher rating is that, even though the food was delicious, the prices are ridiculous for the amount of food you get. My boyfriend and I had a drink each, split four apps, and each had a dessert. We mistakingly thought that splitting four apps would be enough food for the two of us, but we were wrong. We got an order of wings, the bacon wrapped dates, an empanada, and the croquettas de chorizo. The croquettas were the most disappointing. They basically just tasted like potatoes. The pork empanada was good but not great. The wings and bacon wrapped dates were the best of what we got and were flavorful and delicious. Everything came in extremely small portions. For dessert, we got the tres leches cake, which was amazing, and the salted dulce de leche sundae, which we didn't care for. Also, the service was not the best. The place was full and the two waitresses that were there seemed overwhelmed and the service was not as attentive as it should have been. Gabriel greeted us with a welcoming demeanor and enticed us with his knowledge of not only the menu, beer and wine, but the history of the architecture as well, which he was personally responsible for. I had two beers, one from Barcelona and another that Gabriel recommended; both were great and reasonably priced. My wife had a very nice glass of wine.
