Disappointing service experience I had at Iron Skillet in Waterloo, NY, on May 12, 2026, at approximately 10:00 am. From the beginning of my visit, the service provided by my server, Kandra, was unprofessional and unwelcoming. After being seated, there was a noticeable delay before menus were brought to the table. When Kandra eventually arrived, she placed the menus on the table abruptly and walked away without greeting or acknowledgment. Her demeanor throughout the interaction was cold and dismissive. I ordered an orange juice, and when it arrived, the cup was only half filled. When I politely asked why the glass was half full, Kandra responded by stating, "that's all the orange juice we had left so it's whatever," before walking away. I found this response inappropriate and discourteous. At approximately 10:15 am, I placed my food order for corned beef hash with 2 over easy eggs. After waiting approximately 35 minutes, Kandra returned at 10:50 am with an entirely different meal consisting of pancakes, eggs, sausage, and bacon. When I expressed confusion and explained that this was not my order, she initially insisted that it was. After I clarified that I had ordered corned beef hash and eggs, she responded, "oh well then I mixed it up," and took the incorrect plate back. When my actual order finally arrived, the quality of the food was also disappointing. One of the eggs, which had been ordered over easy, was undercooked to the point that the egg white remained runny. Additionally, the corned beef hash was only lukewarm and appeared as though it had been sitting out for some time before being served. I considered addressing these concerns directly during the visit. However, when Kandra approached the table again, her body language and attitude, including smacking her lips and standing with her hand on her waist, gave the impression that she was uninterested in resolving concerns or providing customer service. In order to avoid escalating the situation, I chose not to pursue the matter further at that time. I finished only the portions of the meal that were edible, paid my check, and left. Overall, this was an extremely poor dining experience. Beyond the food quality issues and order errors, the dismissive attitude and lack of professionalism displayed by Kandra significantly impacted my visit. Customers should be treated with courtesy and respect, and unfortunately that was not the experience I received. I hope management will review this matter appropriately and address the concerns raised in order to improve the customer experience moving forward. read more

The food I could barely eat and I was not happy with how it looked the waiters were great but I hated it.

The service was great honestly, ambiance is alright, the food was nothing but processed foods that I probably SHOULD have made at home. A really good DEEP clean would be great for them. We had planned to stop at the Roy Rogers but exited the thruway too early. I'm glad we did. Iron Skillet is apparently a throwback to Hubbo's childhood. I don't think that I've ever been. This location has a full menu and a full buffet option. If I had been hungrier, I def would have gone for the buffet, even though the mashed potatoes looked a little crusty. It had fried chicken, fish, and lots of sides to choose from. Hubbo got the (No surprise!) Chicken friend steak. It was pretty good and exactly as he remembered it. I thought the breading was good, and the meat under seasoned. I had the chicken quesadilla, which was great. Grilled onions and black beans, under-seasoned but tender chicken chunks. Went here for a quick breakfast between driving. I ordered the country eggs Benedict which was described as eggs Benedict on a biscuit with country gravy. When I ordered she asked how I wanted my eggs? I said I wanted the eggs Benedict. She rolled her eyes and acted like I was a complete moron. She said the country eggs Benedict came with a biscuit and gravy instead of traditional hollandaise (which I understood). I said I was under the impression that eggs Benedict is poached egg, the twist being it's served with gravy & on a biscuit. She told me she didn't care how I got my eggs but I needed to decide. I was taken back by how rude she was. I asked about the potato options and if the home fries were crispy. She said if I wants them that way, I could get them. My food came out and I had about 6 totally raw pieces of potato and non crispy (and largely uncooked) potatos. My eggs Benedict was decent. The country gravy was good but the biscuit not fresh. There were some hard chunks and it was really dry. Only reason I'm not rating a one star is because my husband said his burger was cooked well and was good. Worst food I've eaten in about a month, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The entire piece of lettuce was the hard white part, French fries were soggy and barely warm, I'm pretty sure the burger was cooked last week and thrown on the grill just to warm it up. Basically the meal tasted/looked like something you would have taken from a adolescent backyard bbq in a doggy bag, left in your car over night then eaten 3 days later. Whom ever the chef/cook clearly has no integrity for the food bring served, I'm sure my 11 year old could have made this using a microwave. Obviously, strongly recommend eating elsewhere. Have ate here a quit a few times over the years. I have eaten off the menu and the buffet. Tonight was the buffet. Everything was fresh. Chicken and rice soup was very good. They had a weird item. Ribs with chocolate, tried it not really sure about it. Waitress was friendly, this is saying a lot. Being a truck stop eats they are harassed by lonely drivers all day and night. If you are looking for a place to grab food quick or just sit and take as long as you wish, this is a good spot. They will not hurry you out the door and there is lots of seats. read more

On our way to Toronto, we stopped by here for lunch. Never been to truck stop diner before so I was kind of looking forward to it. I had some sort of bbq pork cutlet sandwich with onion rings. It wasn't overly amazing but wasn't bad at all. The price was very reasonable. I also want to apologize to the poor waitress that had to wait on another member of our party. This woman ordered a Cuban Sandwich from a truck stop diner. When the sandwich came it looked exactly like the picture in the menu. This member immediately sent it back saying this looks nothing like a Cuban sandwich. That's like me going to Taco Bell and sending back my taco because it's not a real Mexican taco. Delish massive late night "breakfast for dinner". Everything was clean and tidy. The eggs, sausage, toast, juice, tea - it was all satisfying and cooked properly. Attentive service. Big bright truck stop atmosphere in the main area made me feel safe, traveling as a single woman. This review would rank as a 5 for service and food, but my silverware was nasty and the S&P was slippery (greasy). I'll be back on my next trip! read more

I worked at the desil station in the back of here On time a coworker wanted me to go pick up their order I had to roll down all my windows and breathe out the window because it stunk so bad They are open 24/7 and never clean the grills you can smell it on the food Eggs smell like fish and so on The magee diner is right next door and within walking distance from the perto lot if you don't want to park you semi in their lot they r open 6am-9pm mo - sa and 6am-3 pm on sun You have to try the Hungry man for breakfast or the brownie Sunday for dessert read more

I was recently part of a group of 50+ students and adults that was stranded at the Petro Stopping Center as our bus broke down. Within 5 minutes of us arriving at the center, the staff at the Iron Skillet went above and beyond to help us out. They opened up a party room despite us not knowing how long we'd be there or if we'd even be purchasing meals, brought us water and accommodated us in every way imaginable. The cooking staff made sure all the food was fresh for when we were ready to eat, and the management even gave our bus driver (who had to attend to the issue) a free meal. Patrons at a nearby table even offered to donate money to help us with our tab. The food was very good, fresh and tasty and everyone really enjoyed their meal. It was heartwarming how welcoming everyone was and I would highly recommend anyone to go there and support this restaurant!!! read more

This place was awful! Food on Buffet had been sitting for hours, bread and desserts were stale, food disgusting! I asked how often the food gets rotated out and the women at the cash register said when it's empty. I said so it can sit there for 2, 4, 6 hours possibly overnight and it does not get rotated out until it's gone, she said she doesn't know what they do over there. I would never recommend this place to anyone! What a waste of time and money. This place could use a complete overhaul! read more
