They were out of one type and we had a LOT of blocks of a very salty cheddar. We had to leave most of it but the pieces we ate were good with the crackers & fig jam. Portico - Del Lago Resort & Casino (and that star is feeling generous) New Year's Eve. Bad weather. Half-empty dining room. Somehow... still disappointing. Service was fine and friendly. Thus the one star. I ordered beef carpaccio, expecting delicate raw beef. What arrived instead looked like a lonely slice of cold roast beef you'd find sweating under plastic wrap at a deli counter. Not raw. Not delicate. Just confused. The side dishes were served at outdoor temperature, which was impressive considering we were inside. The potatoes and broccoli were so cold they may have skipped the kitchen entirely and come straight from the parking lot. Then there was the steak. Ordered black and blue. What I received was neither black nor blue, but a sad shade of gray, with absolutely zero char. It looked like it had been politely warmed by someone thinking about a grill from afar. And here's the real kicker: Fabio Viviani's name is on this restaurant. If this is what's being served under his banner, someone should check on him to make sure he doesn't have dementia --because this meal looked like it would personally offend him. I can say with confidence: Fabio would not be proud. He might not even admit knowing this place. For a casino restaurant on New Year's Eve--when expectations are already modest--this was still a miss. The room was half empty, the weather was terrible, and somehow the food managed to match the weather perfectly. If you're looking for chilly sides, deli meat carpaccio, and a steak that fears a grill, Portico might be your lucky bet. Otherwise, I'd recommend rolling the dice literally anywhere else. read more

We go to Portico about once a month. We always go for the steak, ribeye or NY strip. Steaks and sides were always spot on, top notch, flavorful and cooked to perfection. About 3-4 months ago we went ordered a NY strip medium cook. It came out small, done well, dry and no flavor. Next time we went said let's give it another chance ordered a ribeye, medium. Steak came out and it was great!! Thick, flavorful and cooked to perfection, and we could cut it with a fork. Tonight we go looking forward to another delicious ribeye. Steak comes out thin cut, small, dry, absolutely no flavor and cooked well done, not our medium order! Needless to say for the price the inconsistency is concerning. This is supposed to be top notch and it's not. Also steaks always came out on a cutting board with a roasted garlic and a lemon, tonight comes out with a 1/4 of an onion and 2 cherry tomatoes on a plate!!! I have only been here once 3 years ago but it was fabulous! They didn't have calamari which was kind of sad because you can't go wrong with that. We had truffle fries and the huge portion was great- we got to bring some home. Tomahawk steak was perfect to split with two people. This place is so amazing! I would highly recommend the carbonara since it is served table sign, and looks absolutely wonderful. I ordered a pasta dish with extra veggies, it came with broccolini. I ordered some red sauce on the side. The person I was with ordered the spaghetti and meatball, which was so humongous and beautiful. If you like spaghetti and meatballs you will absolutely love this. I ordered the wedge salad without the bacon. The dressing was delicious. We went to celebrate a birthday of a family member. The ambiance was very nice and laid back. The service was superior . The food was a bit disappointing. We all ordered drinks and it was the consensus that they were very light in the alcohol. Those who ordered the Caesar Salad were impressed by the size, however the romaine leaves were served whole and took quite a bit of cutting up. I would also swear that the dressing was bottled . Steaks were ok. When we finished , no mention was made of a birthday or any special . The birthday boy insisted we don't make a big deal , but when we were seated the hostess did acknowledge that we were there for a birthday celebration. The bill averaged over $100 a person. It was my first time at the Portico that is located inside the Del Lago Casino. The ambiance is perfect for a date night with light music and decorations were nice and especially the wine wall. Reservations were easy to make on the open table app. When we arrived for our reservation we were seated immediately. Our server, Jude was amazing and answered all of our questions. We started with warm bread that was served with butter and red sauce. Calamari was amazing and cooked perfectly and served with red and white sauce and lightly breaded. The portion was very good size and can easily share with four people. Our main course was the filet and lobster tail. Very flavorful and cooked to perfection. We had the dragonfruit lemonade drink and it was very tasty. Great choice from our server. We ended the night with the chocolate melting cake and the server brought my daughter champagne and chocolate moose complementary for her birthday dinner. read more

We stopped in for a celebratory Valentine's Day dinner. The hostess was nice and greeted us promptly. We opted for the Valentine's Day special four course menu. Cocktails of choice for the evening were the Portico punch and Strawberry Fields Forever. Both drinks were phenomenal. The four course special left us stuffed and most importantly was good overall. First courses were salads from which we the BLT wedge and the Romain Caesar. If you ever have the opportunity to order the BLT wedge, do so! I know what your thinking, a salad, really? While typically a salad is not the star of the show, this one really was. It could use some work on presentation, but the salad, itself, was truly amazing and I am already contemplating its recreation in my kitchen at home. Second course was choice of appetizer. Truffle Mac & Cheese with orecchiette pasta, creamed truffle sauce, and Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail jumbo shrimp, calabrian chili sauce and charred lemon. We both opted for the Mac and cheese. I'll keep it simple here and tell you it was gross and undercooked. My warning to all is do not order that and to keep it moving. For choice of entree we chose the Filet Mignon 10 oz. filet mignon, baby carrots, blistered tomatoes, fingerling potato and the Lobster Tail 9 oz. Maine lobster tail, broccolini with hollandaise sauce, garlic herb whipped mashed potatoes. The lobster was supposed to come with asparagus but instead they plated it with broccolini. There was no mention of this adjustment, they just served the plate. My other complaint for the main entree was that my husbands steak was undercooked. He ordered medium well and it came out rare medium. He's a champ and powered through the bloodiness of it all (feel free to imagine an inserted emoji of your choice here). Last course was the Trio of Chocolate strawberry truffle, espresso mousse, decadent flourless chocolate cake. The flourless cake was good. The others, I had no room for by the end of this meal. It is important to note that Portico has a diverse staff. Management seems to be friendly and refunded the couple sitting behind us their entire meal because they were unhappy. What I found interesting is that I did not see the manager personally check on the tables of other parties even though I heard him personally admit to the couple that the kitchen was having an "off night." Uh, do you think that nobody else could tell that as well? For well over $200 per meal, with drinks and gratuity, you'd think a check-in and thank you would be on the to-do list for patrons. If you are considering dining here for a special occasion, this restaurant is okay and obviously the best option in the area, however if you are specifically driving in from a nearby city, you will easily find countless options that contend, at home, for a fraction of the price. My husband and I recently ate here to celebrate our anniversary. Highly recommend making a reservation, as it's the only sit down restaurant at the casino. We started by ordering a bottle of wine to share. They have a large selection, but wish they offered more NYS wines. Our waitress also gave us some to-go cups since we didn't finish the bottle during dinner. For an appetizer, we got the coccoli. The truffle cheese paired well with the prosciutto and light puff pastry. We were also served fresh warm bread with herb better, which was delicious. For entrees, I ordered the veal and my husband had a shark special. Both of our proteins were good and cooked well, but we weren't huge fans of the sides. My fingerling potatoes had an odd taste to them. Sadly, we did not have enough room for dessert but they had a decent list. Dinner started off with the Calamari -- buttermilk marinated, cornmeal crusted, lemon pepper aioli, arrabbiata sauce. At best, it was okay. It was heavy, a little more greasy than I would have liked, and the serving size was actually too much for two people before the main course. Oddly, the sauce on the side was cold too which is something not only that I have never seen but also doesn't mix well with the warm dish itself. With this start, the experience was definitely headed for an "OK" rating at best... It was something I had never seen on a menu before. The swordfish was just thin enough to make it work really well and the sauce and brocolini made for a perfect combination. No shaved parm to speak of that was part of the description. Also ordered the rigatoni. Yet not enough of a portion for $26. Plus the cost of the salad. Can't remember the exact price but it was around $14. We went because of the $50 for 50+ but was told it was on Thursday only. It is not on the website that I could find. For starters our waitress I wish I could remember her name to put in this review because she was great, an absolute sweetheart and very attentive. Our entrees took a bit longer than anticipated when the restaurant didn't seem too busy. I got a filet and my husband got seabass. My filet was good but the broccolini I ordered as a side was completely raw and cold. My husband seabass was also good and hot but the sides of potatoes and broccolini that were served under the seabass were ice cold. They took the seabass off the bill which we are appreciative of. I am a super fan of Bravo's food competition show "TopChef". Super excited to try this place. Food was delicious! Highly recommend the filet Mignon!! The steak was perfectly cooked, super tender and the flavor was amazing!!! I would put it in my Top 3 steaks that I ever eaten in my life. Up there with Gordon Ramsey and Tom Colicchio's steaks. Unfortunately I've knocked off a couple of stars. I don't like doing this but the experience wasn't nearly as good as last time. The 1st reason is the ridiculous noise level. Because it's all hard sharp angles, wooden floors and nothing at all to absorb sound, everything is unnaturally loud. On top of this, they have music that is also extremely loud and in my opinion, unnecessary and vulgar. Music does NOT belong in a so called fine dining restaurant. You might as well be eating at Joe's Greasy Spoon. No class at all. The service was good but the menu is very unimaginative. Again, I expect more interesting fare from a restaurant that has the chef's name in the title. This was very basic and we weren't even offered any specials. Mistake by our wait staff or laziness from the restaurant just not bothering to go the extra mile? Whichever, not a very good sign. We ordered the shrimp cocktail to share as a starter. Big shrimp and very good sauce but the shrimp were dry and not very appetising. I had the 5oz mignon with Bearnaise. Both excellent and very good fresh fries. My wife had the seabass, also excellent with a very original side dish of potatoes. "Small potatoes" I think it was called. Delicious. So to sum up, cooked food, delicious, service good, everything everything else, sub par. For those prices, I can think of quite a few places I'd rather eat in that are more interesting and more comfortable. read more

This place is trying to be an upscale noveau-Italian fine dining experience in the casino, but does not measure up. The staff is very courteous and responsive, but the food is average and overpriced. I ordered the Caesar salad, which really isn't a salad at all. The menu describes a salad with croutons and anchovies. The croutons were actually just crumbs mixed in with the dressing, which had almost no flavor, not even parmesan. And the dish contained one anchovy! The waiter explained that the anchovies are just a "garnish." Not in any Caesar salad I ever had before. The worst part was the lettuce, which was un-chopped, large, whole pieces of romaine, much of which weren't even edible. Terrible!! ... The entree was scallops, which were chewy and again lacked flavor. The best part was the risotto and the four little pieces of asparagus. The wine pours are tiny. ... I'm done with this place. The menu needs an overhaul, and they must increase their portions if they're going to charge Vegas-style prices. read more

Honestly not my favorite. I was looking forward to a nice dinner and casino night. But what I got was super average. Especially for the price. The service was average and not super attentive. My steak was over cooked. I ordered medium rare and it was very medium... it was a small filet but still disappointing. It was a good steak but nothing mind blowing. I opted to get the truffle butter on it and honestly didn't taste it. The lobster tail was seasoned beautifully but seemed like it had been sitting for a few minutes and that threw off the texture I think. The fries were average and I didn't like the balsamic ketchup they came with. On the positive side the shrimp cocktail was great. My espresso martini was perfection and their house Cabernet was very good! My partner ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and said it was great. And I thought the atmosphere was nice, and well decorated. All in all it was a little expensive for the quality of the steak and overall experience but I would go back again and try something else. Maybe a bigger steak. read more

We first visited Portico about nine months ago, shortly after they opened. I have no idea why I didn't write a review or even take pictures of the food. But I recall we enjoyed it, certainly enough to visit it again this past weekend. We did not have a reservation at our 5:45 pm arrival and the dining room was fully booked. But the hostess offered us a table in the bar/lounge area, which I think is actually more attractive than the main dining area. The beverage menu is presented on an iPad. From the six craft draft beers available, I chose a Grounded Stout from the Hamburg, NY Brewery ($10) while my wife decided to try an Italian brew that we couldn't even pronounce - Birrificio del Ducato & Fonteinen Brewery Beersel Mattina ($15). Our server Corbin, explained that it was a sour lambic. I've since researched it and learned that it is a blend from two different breweries: an 18 month aged lambic from Brewery Beersel in Belgium which the brewery was forced to sell to Birrificio del Ducato due to a mechanical breakdown; and New Morning Ale from Birrificio del Ducato. I'm not a big fan of sour beers, although I do enjoy fruit flavored lambics, and I found this sour ale to be quite good. My Grounded Stout was full bodied and really overflowing with chocolate flavor. After such a successful initial beverage opening to our meal the pressure was now on for the kitchen to equally measure up. The Coccoli Platter ($13) sounded extremely interesting - beignet-style bread balls, prosciutto di parma, stracchino cheese, truffle honey, and herb oil. It was more than interesting. The bread balls were light and full of air like popovers. I was tearing them apart and adding the soft, slightly sweet stracchino, the almost onion-skin-thin prosciutto, and then skimming it all through the honey and oil. My goodness that was palate pleasing. A special appetizer this night was grilled Shishito Peppers ($10). So simple, yet so delicious. This dish has never failed us no matter where we've enjoyed them. Once again we were thoroughly pleased. Because we had also devoured the rolls and focaccia along with a tomato tapenade served to us as we were seated, we both could have been satiated at this point. But two other specials for the night called out to us. My wife ordered the Striped Sea Bass ($32) with broccolini. The fish was light, sweet and perfectly cooked. That really crispy skin on top was a delight. I chose the Lamb Bolognese with spinach pasta ($17). I believe the pasta was made in house. While my wife thought the pasta was slightly overcooked, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The blend of all the flavors was wonderful. It was not a strong or gamey lamb and the accent of whipped ricotta on top was a perfect addition. Service is excellent, our water glasses were repeated filled as needed from our S. Pellegrino bottle ($6). Note, however, if you are attuned to listening for announcements of events or potential winners by the casino, you will not hear any of that in Portico. My party and I walked in casually on a Friday night and managed to get seated. We ordered the calamari to start and it was delicious, but not the best I have ever tried. We were content. The house bread was great as well (try it with the garlic butter). Our waitress informed us what was on the chef's special menu and I decided to order something that I have never tried before, which was Chilean Seabass. I was a bit nervous but the waitress ensured me that I was making the right decision. She was absolutely correct. I was completely speechless during dinner. It was DELECTABLE! The seabass was PERFECTLY cooked. The top portion of the fish had this wonderful crunchiness to it. A very Well balanced dinner! Served with cannellini beans, tomato, lemon, arugula (Chefs kiss)! I was so content that I decided to order dessert to go. I will forever be thankful for Portico for introducing me to such a wonderful dish! When I go out and I see Seabass on the menu, I order it! I rarely eat fish so that should enlighten you as far as my expectations. I visit Del Lago quite frequently and in the past, I heard it was best to get reservations. Made reservations via OpenTable before dining here (a week+ in advance) noting a preference for booth seating. Finally time for dinner last night, only to arrive and be told they didn't have a booth set aside (though while we were walking through the restaurant, I noted at least a couple... and they stayed empty almost the entire time we were dining, while plenty of other booths turned over). Fine... not a huge deal, I guess, but I did note a preference in advance. The ambience of Portico is enjoyable, with a sense of luxury. The food follows suit, quality dishes with a reasonable price point for the type of restaurant - I've spent similar amounts at high end brunches and whatnot, and so I wasn't surprised with the overall cost for a dinner for two. One disappointment though is that the service seemed oddly slow. While our server checked back with us regularly, getting the actual drinks and dishes to the table after ordering took longer than expected. Ultimately, I found the menu to be the most enjoyable aspect of my dining experience... and there were a couple items that I would be tempted to come back and try. Is it going to be one of my top dining destinations? Probably not. But! It was truly enjoyable. I just probably wouldn't go back on a Saturday night for dinner... and I'm hoping that next time I'll get that booth. read more

Went to Portico on Friday 9/17 before a concert at the casino. We did not have a reservation but we're seated at the bar, which was fine for us. Beautiful restaurant, great atmosphere, but the food... no. For a starter I ordered the 'nduja and mascarpone flatbread. I expected a flatbread with a soft, spicy sausage spread and followed with mascarpone. What we got was a crispy cracker like texture with a schmear of 'nduja and no mascarpone. The bartender explained that the mascarpone was mixed with the 'nduja. I suppose the fault was my own because I didn't ask for specifics, but shortly after I overheard her telling the couple next to us that the 'nduja flatbread was awful. Wow, I wish she would have shared that with me! Next, I order rigatoni carbonara with Brussels sprouts and a farm fresh egg. After an exceptionally long wait, my dinner arrived in a mason jar. The bartender shook it up in front of me and dumped it into a bowl. What I got was gummy pasta with Alfredo sauce, not carbonara, three Brussels sprout leaves (yes, leaves) and no egg. Again, not what I expected and in fact, quite awful. The sauce tasted like Ragú jar Alfredo sauce and was basically disgusting. I could not eat it. Well, thought I'd try dessert. For $10 I ordered creme brulee with fresh berries. What I got was the equivalent of vanilla pudding with a brulee top (throw some sugar on top and torch it) and about 1/4 of a strawberry. Another failure. This was not an inexpensive meal. I was so disappointed and when I kept asking the bartender for clarification on my dishes when they arrived she was dismissive. I mean, if I read the menu and it says "rigatoni carbonara with Brussels sprouts" I'm expecting carbonara with maybe halved roasted Brussels sprouts on top. If I read "'nduja with mascarpone" I expect dollops of creamy mascarpone, not NOTHING resembling a creamy cheese. Folks, please don't waste your money. Go to Smashburger where the menu accurately reflects the food you are served. This place was awful. read more

Decided to treat myself after a long drive. The place is nice and overall experience was ok. My disappointment came when the meal I planned to get after looking at the website, was not available due to a new menu. The new menu just didn't have the small plate/salad offerings that appealed to me. Ended up getting a salad that tasted good but was drenched in dressing. Good bread served with a red sauce that was tasty. Cocktail menu was again not that exciting. Second time here. Had to try the homemade pasta this time. We started with a Burrata (sp) ball and it was delicious! My carbonara was ok. The pasta was a bit more al dente then I care for. My sister had the bolognese and that was very light and flavorful! The picture is of a half portion which was plenty! read more

I called for 2 days requesting a reservation and no one called me back. I showed up anyways and they told me there was no availability (there was at least 10 empty tables). The hostess said she called but I didn't now answer and I have no missed calls. I just don't understand how you can sit there and lie to my face like that. Del Lago's fine dining restaurant is Portico. Not really much of a gambler, I find myself enjoying Del Lago's touches of luxury throughout the casino. Portico is a zen escape from the loud, clanging slot machines. When you first walk in, you are greeted by an impressive wall of wines. The restaurant has three dining spaces, surrounding an open bar in the center of the room. I enjoyed the main dining space, with sparkling glass light fixtures and a warm and subdued color palette. The service during my visit was pretty stellar. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. He encouraged us to try the coccoli platter: a beignet and prosciutto starter that was adventurous, interactive and delicious. My main course: the manicotti was a classic choice, but the basil in the sauce made it taste authentic. Truly an exciting addition to the FLX, complete with a celebrity chef. Lovely , dark and romantic restaurant in the Del Lago Casino . Menu is varied with steaks , Italian specialties and seafood . Lots of wine choices and full bar. The service was friendly and efficient.! We had the flatbread and the carbonara. The flatbread was fresh and very good . The carbonara had a nice flavor at first but turned pasty as it cooled. Also the Brussel sprouts as well as the bacon were overly chewy. read more

Great meal: presentation, taste, portion. It's certainly not a cheap experience but it's not regretful. The wait staff was friendly and matched our table's humor. The place may have been on point since Mr V was there for a cooking demo. read more
