This is the diner/cafe/bar that is included in a hotel package for a 2 day stay...they gave me a voucher for breakfast, and also a voucher for a drink from their bar. After a night of gambling it was nice to unwind and have a drink...I didn't intend on eating anymore as it was it was late but I did end up ordering some food as well. I ordered the poutine..I'm super glad I decided to order it because it was So good! And the portion was huge. A must try if you decide to eat here. For breakfast the next morning I went with their smoked brisket Skillet. A plate full of sauteed onions n peppers with potatoes, cheese...and brisket! How can you go wrong? It was delicious...and topped with 2 sunny side eggs... delicious stick to your ribs home cooking. Definitely a must try!

I had frequency visited the Café at The Sociale for several days. There were mornings and afternoons where all I had was baked goods from The Sociale and Hot Chocolates. The Sociale is located inside the Del Lago Casino, next to the Hotel check-in and right before you enter the casino floor. On the Café menu, there is a variety of baked goods from Cookies, to Muffins, Scones, Cheesecakes, Macaroons, Magic Bars, Eclairs, and so much more! Note though there hours differ from weekday and weekend. Weekday, The Sociale closes by 9:00 P.M. On the weekend, The Sociale closes by 2:00 A.M. If you're getting a Coffee etc, there are only [2] size options, a small or a large. I would get a hot chocolate often during my stay at the Del Lago. I also selected a variety of baked goods, specifically their blueberry scone and their cranberry orange almond muffin. There hot chocolate can be made with Whole, 2%, Skin Milk or Almond Milk. I opted for Whole milk each time with Whip Cream. Each baked good I ordered, I had asked to be warmed prior to eating. The baked goods prices were relatively inexpensive, especially for the quality and size of the baked good. The prices ranged from $1.00 - $3.00. The Hot chocolates were also between $2.50-$3.50 depending on the size. My order prices were never over the $7.00 range. The blueberry scone I ordered was really good, especially for a scone that may had been on the stand for several hours. It was fluffy and had a good combination of blueberries, sugar, and a while frosting on-top. The Cranberry Muffin was good as well! There was sugar crystals on-top of the Muffin. Inside the muffin contained the Cranberries and Almonds. I had my muffin warmed, and with it warmed, enhanced the flavor of the orange and cranberries! The muffin was light and fluffy. Overall, I had a very positive experience at The Sociale and will be back here again if I am in the Waterloo area.

I've been here several times going back to August, 2017 when it first opened and I can't believe I never reviewed it. I even still have some photos to post from a visit in August of 2018. The Sociale is located between the casino and the hotel, right next to the hotel elevators. While our visits have generally been for breakfast, they also serve lunch and dinner and are open 24 hours on Friday and Saturdays. There is a full bar and a bakery display case that might even encourage you to take a casino break for a really good cup of Lavazza coffee and something sweet like their house-made gelato. My photos from last August remind me that our breakfast consisted of The Forager ($8) and Sausage Gravy & Biscuits ($8) along with bottomless cups of Lavazza coffee ($2 each). The Forager consisted of roasted maitake mushrooms, greens, a fried egg, raclette cheese, and black trumpet mayo on focaccia. My wife enjoyed it so much she looked for it the next time we were there, but it is no longer on the menu now. My Sausage Gravy & Biscuits used locally sourced chorizo in the gravy and a poached egg over a house-made cheddar rosemary biscuit. I should point out that Sociale takes advantage of a lot of the local farms to source their ingredients. On this most recent visit, our breakfast consisted of more of that delicious Lavazza coffee, the Salmon Benedict ($14) for my wife and the Sociale Breakfast ($10) for me. Both dishes came with hash brown potatoes that showed the well trained sous-chef's adept hand at perfectly dicing equally sized potato cubes. Mixed with chopped onion and pepper, they were quite good. My wife's salmon was perfectly cooked as was the poached egg. My over-easy eggs likewise showed the attention to detail by the kitchen as they were just right for combining with the sausage patties that I chose over bacon to accompany the tasty house-made cheddar biscuit. With the reasonable prices and portions along with the friendly service in a nice atmosphere, I see no reason for not enjoying breakfast here anytime we are staying at the hotel. The only exception might be if you have a craving for a Zweigle's hot dog, which is sold at a stand on the casino floor. I have yet to do that. Did I mention that they also have a breakfast buffet for $12?

Fortunate enough to attend the launch of the Finger Lakes to Table series at The Sociale and its couldn't have been better. This place has real potential because of the bright minds that are behind it. The chef, local sommelier, social media coordinator, and staff are all top notch and all have a vested interest in the success of this restaurant. The attention to detail from the tables, to the food, the wines that were paired with each course and the professionals in attendance to guide the dining room through this food journey was incredible. Local foods, prepared beautifully and with incredible detail, really blew us away. Hats off to the chef!

Very Understaffed, meat quality terrible (fatty steaks). Forgot my salad. Volume of people too high. Wouldn't go back.

Portico by Fabio Viviani - Apple crumble with vanilla gelato

Stopped in for pre-dinner snacks and drinks. We sat at the bar, the team was very friendly and the…read moredrinks were reasonable and delicious. We ordered appetizers and they came out quickly! We shared the grilled octopus and the charcuterie board. The octopus was delicious! The charcuterie was a nice mix of items, except the cheese. They were out of one type and we had a LOT of blocks of a very salty cheddar. We had to leave most of it but the pieces we ate were good with the crackers & fig jam. We asked for a second drink in a plastic cup to take with us on to the floor and we were accommodated. We would definitely stop back!

Portico - Del Lago Resort & Casino (and that star is…read morefeeling generous) New Year's Eve. Bad weather. Half-empty dining room. Somehow... still disappointing. Service was fine and friendly. Thus the one star. I ordered beef carpaccio, expecting delicate raw beef. What arrived instead looked like a lonely slice of cold roast beef you'd find sweating under plastic wrap at a deli counter. Not raw. Not delicate. Just confused. The side dishes were served at outdoor temperature, which was impressive considering we were inside. The potatoes and broccoli were so cold they may have skipped the kitchen entirely and come straight from the parking lot. Then there was the steak. Ordered black and blue. What I received was neither black nor blue, but a sad shade of gray, with absolutely zero char. It looked like it had been politely warmed by someone thinking about a grill from afar. And here's the real kicker: Fabio Viviani's name is on this restaurant. If this is what's being served under his banner, someone should check on him to make sure he doesn't have dementia --because this meal looked like it would personally offend him. I can say with confidence: Fabio would not be proud. He might not even admit knowing this place. For a casino restaurant on New Year's Eve--when expectations are already modest--this was still a miss. The room was half empty, the weather was terrible, and somehow the food managed to match the weather perfectly. If you're looking for chilly sides, deli meat carpaccio, and a steak that fears a grill, Portico might be your lucky bet. Otherwise, I'd recommend rolling the dice literally anywhere else.
