One of the oldest hotels in Seneca Falls! The rooms and lobby are elegant for their age. They were well up-kept updated a while back, but kept their old charm. They're across from the Women's rights museum and beautiful scenery of Seneca Falls on Fall St. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. The staff were kind and gave a nice small town feel. Where to begin..... first off upon arriving and saying hello the front desk told us they just had a bird in one of the rooms and another room that the AC broke so she hoped we wouldn't have any issues. Welp! First impression of the room was iffy, the floors were not swept but we tolerated. The AC unit would not go lower than 72 degrees and when there is a heat wave outside, that kind of sucked. "Continental breakfast" was extremely sub par with all unknown brands and knockoffs. After realizing things were just on the downward spiral here we made the best of the situation and on morning THREE specifically spoke to the front desk to have our room cleaned- since we hadn't had ANY room service at all. The woman said sure let me write down your room number..... We came back that night the room was not cleaned or made, therefore we had to ask for a set of clean towels. Finally, every single night we had to have our room cards renewed! We would get to the room and find out that they didn't work. Half the time the one front desk worker didn't even know what rooms were occupied. Overall, I do not recommend this hotel. Two of the front desk people had decent humor about all the "f-ups" but it seemed so common to them. Also FYI- bar and restaurant were not open from Wed-Sun when we were there and during breakfast they don't even have the chairs down off the tables. read more

Both receptionists I spoke with were very pleasant and that is where ALL decency at The Gould Hotel ends. From sheets and comforters covered in black cat hair on both beds to windowsills covered with cat hair to hairballs all over the floor of the room as well as specks of kitty litter in the closet and some form of pill under the nightstand alongside all the dust to the bathroom overbearingly smelling of bleach. I can truly say I have had better sleeping quarters in the Army while deployed in 3rd world country's! Thee ONLY reason I am leaving a review is to better warn you if you are considering a room there... after seeing the room I immediately brought it up to the receptionist. It was supposed to be cleaned while the wife and I had dinner (not at the hotel though... no no no that's all shut down) long story short we get back the rooms not touched hours later still. We start getting dressed for the concert and that's where the most awkward hotel moment of my 48 yr life happens. There's a knock we answer the hotel worker says she'll come back and could she take our desk chair... sure whatever. We go and have a great time at the concert and come back to the door open with our bags inside as well as fresh sheets and a lot less hair but still a disgusting room that now burned the nose from bleach and made the eyes itchy from what I assume to be cat dander? That was enough to leave at 10:30-11 pm to drive 2 hrs home. The hotel declined any refund stating they have a 48hr cancelation policy; I am not even going to try and figure that out or inquire any further. I figure if the Gould Hotel is going to cost me money I will try and reciprocate them and save you the headache of dealing with the place. read more

The devil indeed, is in the details. And I guess I notice the details. This hotel is in a very old building that has been nicely redone. We had to call in our order to the restaurant, as we were coming in later. The front desk person was very helpful. We went to the restaurant and sat there long enough that I got up and went to the bar to get our drinks (after 4 1/2 hours of driving). A nice young lady made it over to us eventually. No introduction. I do like people to introduce themselves, but that may just be me. Dinner itself was lovely. Best roasted Brussels sprouts we've ever had. Like ever. Shredded Brussels sprouts with bacon and onion. Divine. Had a glass of Pinot noir with my Cabernet beef, mashed potatoes and roasted broccoli- nicely done. My husband had the candied bacon burger and loved it. No room for dessert. The check was very reasonable. One detail: The lighting in the dining room was quite bright- not quite like an operating room, but close. They need to add little lamps to the tables and turn the bloody lights on the walls down. We sat at the bar and had a drink. Young bartender was attentive and fun. The lights over the bar felt like an interrogation was about to start, so I asked her to dim them a wee bit. Ahhh, much better! The room was nice, comfy bed, soft duvet and pillows. Slept well. Alarm was set by someone (not me) to go off at 5:15 am. Not pleasant. Note to self: check alarm clock in future. Breakfast was free and...ok. They need to label the water and milk; I poured water in my coffee. They had easy, inexpensive stuff out - it was fine. Cut fruit and a few more option beyond boxed cereal and bagels would have upped their game. NOTHING was recycled and everything was plastic . C'mon people, do better. More like a 3.5 but not a 4 Funky older hotel comfy beds. Our couch was horrible and uncomfortable. We got the suite room so it had an adjoining room with a couch , desk, tv. Small fridge and microwave. Keurig coffee maker. Eclectic is the vibe. Old hotel, modern funky art work. Hot pink snd purple thrown in for fun and chandeliers over the beds. They have continental breakfast. Cereal, cereal bars, bagels, some pre packaged pastries, yogurt ( we were there 3 days they only had blueberry) The great blueberry yogurt sale of 2o23?!? Idk Coffee and tea. Juices. We did have cocktails at the bar which were nice pours and decent prices. The place brings in a bit of a crowd on the weekends so that was fun. The bartenders were chatty and engaging. The room was 95% clean. Bedroom and bathroom were great. The area where couch was skipped in the vacuuming process. Would I go back. If I was in the area I might. It wasn't a terrible stay. We had a nice time There are over 100 wineries in the area and beautiful waterfalls and the finger lakes. read more

We went here tonight for dinner. The food was pretty good. I enjoyed my food, as did my parents. The pumpkin squash ravioli was great. I'm not sure the exact name of the dish but it had a really good (sweet) flavor. The pizza looked good. The chicken sandwich looked really good. Next time I will have to try that. My husband didn't care for his shrimp pasta though. I was a little skeptical at first because the ambiance wasn't great. Blue walls and an uninviting dinning room. They did have a pretty good band playing though (called Major Key). They were a little loud for eating dinner though. read more

July 4, 2024, late dinner, approx 8:30 or so: Husband and I, on a road trip, appreciated that you offered dinner later than most sit down restaurants on Fall St - on the holiday. Most were done at 8 or before. Service was great- I noted two of you working the restaurant? Several options on the entree menu were gluten-free. We ordered two of them. Husband ordered the mid-rare NY strip, grilled perfectly, with blue cheese and bacon bits. I had the eggplant caponata- delicious red sauce and everything about it. I stopped by here for dinner, and while I rarely write a review after a couple cocktails, this experience deserves special mention. The steak was perfectly cooked with bleu cheese, balsamic and fried onions. The bartender did an admirable job in serving over half a dozen parties by herself, including my fussy cocktail orders. When I pointed out that it was unfair for the manager to leave so much work for her to do alone, she replied that the hotel manager himself was backing her up, delivering flatbread and whatever else was asked. The bar was hopping and the restaurant had a few diners. Tried this with my colleague. Theresa our server was pleasant and helpful. More impressive is that she's only been there for two days. She gave good insight into the menu even willing to provide dessert options so we could plan ahead. The chicken French was nicely breaded and baked over thin flavorful artichoke, tomatoes and garlic. Not too heavy but well seasoned. My colleague had a strip steak that he said was perfectly prepared. For desert the chocolate cake was moist, and rich. (I took part back to the room for tomorrow ) He ordered carrot cake and said it was very good. Would highly recommend this restaurant if you're in Seneca Falls. The hotel is a must in the area. The rooms are awesome. Quality craftsmanship throughout. After a long day at work, Gloria was at the front desk and welcomed me back each day with a smile. My boyfriends family and I stopped at the Gould for dinner last weekend and had a great meal! The restaurant is well decorated and seems to be a staple in downtown Seneca Falls. We ordered several appetizers and were very impressed with the arancini and wings! For entrees, I ordered the chicken piccata special which was good but fairly average. The service was also a bit slow on a Saturday night, they seemed to be slightly understaffed. Overall, I would go back for a quality meal. read more

I have no complaints about The Gould Hotel. You can tell the building itself is old, but the hotel has been updated to keep up with the passage of time. The lobby has lots of fun art and colors. Sadly, the restaurant is currently closed - not enough reliable staff to keep it open (a common theme in this area). The hotel manager, Anthony, is a star. Greeted us promptly, was very pleasant to talk to, and got us situated quickly. Made sure to say hi to us each day and made sure we had everything we needed. He's working very hard to keep the hotel going during these crazy times, and we appreciated his dedication to making guests feel welcome. Our room was tasteful, if not a bit small. We found we were lacking the space to spread out a little. It felt very European, but it suited us. The bathroom is spacious, but we found the water pressure was a lacking, and the water takes a while to get hot. Our stay lasted three nights, and aside from the above, there really wasn't much to complain about. It was a great base of operations for our wine-tasting trip to the Finger Lakes! read more

Very nice boutique hotel. Building is old but renovated, so you get a mix of modern and antique. Staff was helpful. Surprisingly good coffee in the lobby in the morning. Not too excited about the pods in the room. We got in early( around 1 PM) and they told us check in is at 3 and our room is not ready, so we had to come back. Check out was at 11, I thought that was too early, but oh well. Overall a good experience and it's 2 doors down from the Wesleyan Church! read more

This review is for the restaurant only. We were in the area for a couple days to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday. On a recommendation from the property we rented we made a dinner reservation at The Gould Hotel as I was looking for someplace special for his actual birthday dinner. To say we were disappointed is a gross understatement! One of the worst dining experiences we have had in a long time! We would have been better off at a fast food restaurant! From the beginning the restaurant was not busy. Just a few tables were occupied. After finally being greeted and given menus we all decided what we would like to order. The waitress curtly informed us that they were " out of flatbreads" as well as 3 of the main entrees because they had a busy Tuesday night! As their menu is a bit limited this was not good news! Now we all needed a few more minutes to decide. Upon returning she informed us "we found some flatbreads" Really!? If you don't know your inventory how are you even in business! As we were ordering we were told another main entree was not available! We should have just walked out at that point! The entrees were brought out, 3 out of 4 at the same time, which if you have a table of 4 guests to only serve 3 is unacceptable! When the 4th entree finally arrived it was lukewarm at best and awful! The worst chicken parmigiana I have ever eaten! Funky texture to the chicken, mushy pasta and the worst sauce! Find a good jar sauce if you can't make one or take it off the menu! My husband ordered the duck and it was so over cooked he could have used a saw to cut through it! Again if you don't know how to cook it take it off of the menu! The only positive part of the meal was the appetizers that we were able to order were edible. It would have also made the experience a little less painful if the staff actually cared about the job they were doing and apologized for the missing items on the menu but judging by the lack of concern Im guessing this was not the first time this occurred! This is the restaurant attached to the Gould Hotel. As we'd arrived later than planned, we opted just to eat in instead of trying to find somewhere else. It was Wednesday, so the place wasn't exactly busy, in fact there was only one other table occupied when we arrived. Needless to say, this practically guaranteed good service from the start and our server Teresa was perky and friendly, making us immediately feel welcome as she explained the specials menu and recommended a local wine for us to try. I can't actually remember what it was called now, but it proved extremely quaffable! I thought the menu was pretty good for this place, and we both ordered the tuna steak. Sadly, Teresa returned to inform us that they didn't have any tuna this day, and seemed genuinely embarrassed and apologetic that she hadn't known that at the start. No matter, the other fish option was salmon so we both went for that instead. The fish was lovely, cooked just right and served with some carrots and cauliflower. I don't know how the cauliflower had been prepared, but it looked like it may have been grilled. I quite liked it, but Herself wasn't so keen on it - but then she is quite particular about her brassicae... Definitely a great and modern hotel that is in the center of everything. It's also near an awesome restaurant called 84 Fall. We spent A week here to go visit the wineries and staying at the Gould hotel was definitely a great location to hit all of them. The rooms are nice and clean the staff does not come and make your bed or refill any towels they leave them outside of the door due to Covid. I will say the ventilation in the rooms were not the best it's actually an older hotel I believe 100 years old, although modern and updated, the ACs were old and made some noise in the middle of the night. And, did not make the rooms as cold as we would like them, but I highly suggest for a location to stay here. read more

Wife and I stayed August 5th for a long weekend getaway. We prefer boutique properties over the cookie-cutter chains. Booked a queen suite at The Gould and were excited about our weekend. The GM who reserved our room via phone was very accommodating and pleasant and we anticipated the same excellent service. Unfortunatey we were wrong on so many levels. I will preface that the temperatures were in the low 90s during our stay as its germane to the story. First off, if you park in the rear lot, the smell of rotting garbage from the kitchen's dumpsters is intolerable and will ruin any dinner appetite you may have had planned. Secondly the property is 'quaint' which translates to somewhat downtrodden. Check-in process was seamless and they already had my money. We entered the room and it was sweltering. Thermometer on my backpack showed 80F. I was sorely disappointed to see that in a very small two room suite the only functional AC was a portable floor unit on ducted out the window on the right side of the bed. We had dinner reservations and had to leave quickly after our arrival so no time to talk to front desk. After dinner, we get back to the room and still 79F. Head to the front desk and talk to a new clerk as shift change occurred. She states "it's probably the batteries in the thermostat" after I explain there's a portable AC unit running in our room. She grabs some spare batteries and heads to the room with me. We pull the thermostat and replace the batteries. No dice - the wall mounted AC still does not work. I notice a switch next to the unit about 9ft up on the wall and ask the clerk if it's OK to turn it on. I get the affirmative nod and using the ironing board to activate the switch, the unit is running and blowing cold air. Problem solved or so we thought. Head out to drinks (not at the hotel bar b/c after sitting for 10 minutes directly at the bar, we were not even acknowledged and left) and come back to the room which is now 70 F - awesome! About 1130P though, we start hearing a drip, drip, drip. We'll, it's the wall mount AC condensate pan with a crack in it dribbling on the floor. Decision time - we either swelter or listen to the drip. We put a hand towel in the ice bucket and located it under the drip. After an absolutely TERRIBLE night's sleep due to the continuous din of the water torture it was time to shower up and head out. BTW, the shower was the best part of the stay and the hot water was HOT. Well, the bathroom was equipped with a generous 1/5th roll of toilet paper and no spare to rationing was warranted. Additionally, no bathmat and almost went on my butt on the floor getting out of the shower. Also, if you're going to install dimmer switches in the rooms and try to be manage your carbon footprint with LEDs simultaneously, at least spend the extra few bucks and but the dimmable bulbs. Walk the walk as a trendy boutique hotel, don't just talk the talk. I convey our disappointment to the clerk upon checkout and he basically blows us off as "being the weekend guy" who can do nothing. He takes my number and says the GM will call me Monday August 8th. No call - EVER. I then call once a day for the next 2 wks and not one time did someone answer the phone. How the hell do you do business this way unless they knew it was me calling and were ignoring me. I almost called my credit card company to dispute the bloated room rate under breach of contract but decided to keep trying to contact The Gould to speak my piece and apprise them of the dissatisfaction. I gave up after 6 wks on nobody answering the phone, thus the rationale for this lengthy review. If you have a good stay there, congratulations. It may have been just a one-off experience for us, but when they won't even hear your concerns, that is where I have the problem. I'm aware of employee scarcity, but hire some professionals in the hospitality sector, not whomever you can get in from the street. Never will go back and will make sure I give the aforementioned recount when asked for any recommendations in the Seneca Falls area. read more

Our third stay at The Gould. It's a pleasant hotel, which is clearly being managed with care. The staff is accommodating and friendly. The decor has been thought about.  At each stay, there's always just a "little something" that makes the visit not quite perfect. This time, the beds were surprisingly less comfortable than they had been previously. Like a mattress pad or cover had been forgotten? The windows were difficult to get to, one being behind the couch and the other behind the bed. However, there are not a lot of hotels in the area. We are happy The Gould is where it is and efforts continue to be made to make folks' stays as lovely as possible. read more

Really like this place. Quaint little boutique hotel right in Seneca Falls. Super updated, VERY clean (huge plus for me). Only cleaning complaint I would have is the rugs all around need a bit of attention. Beds were ok, pillows were great. All staff were very pleasant and friendly, very helpful when needed. Continental breakfast was small, but a nice layout. Restaurant was great too...town is cool to explore and see the National Woman's Rights Historcial Park and hear about the winter time Bedford Halls weekend from the shop owners. I'd most definitely stay here again. One more teeny tiny complaint...the elevator was insanely slow...which is fine since I believe there are only 5 floors including the lobby. But when you're carrying all your bags in because you only want to make one trip, it's a smidge inconvenient. Otherwise, great experience over all! read more

Went to All You Can Eat Crab night 10/14. Drove over an hour for this. The good: Beautiful veune. Our waitress Kayla rocked!! She was so attentive. Brittany did great as busser. Price was normal for AYCE which was $31. Rest of menu wasn't badly priced although entrees were a little high. Due to our issues below we got our dessert comped. The bad: the crab was waaaaaay over cooked. Upon breaking shell, meat should be in one piece but upon breaking meat was smushy. Stayed here recently after a holiday wine tour event and ended up staying for dinner at the in-house restaurant. Overall nothing was really wrong with my stay or my meal, but I feel like they could do a few things to make the experience better. Hotel: Check in took too long. Granted there were a few people on front of us but there was only 1 person working the desk and we later saw him working in the restaurant (more on that later). If a line started forming it would have been nice for a second person to check us in. The rooms were really cool - high ceilings and a large comfortable king bed. I liked the decor of the hotel rooms - seemed like a mix of classic and new styling. Everything was clean and spacious. Restaurant: The menu had a nice mix of small plate appetizers as well as some upscale entrees. I opted for a bowl of chowder and the beer can chicken. The chowder was pretty good but nothing special. My beer can chicken dish was perfectly cooked and was served with fingerling potatoes and some sort of veggie mix. The chicken glaze and apple wood bacon went nicely together. The potatoes were unexciting and I tried and did not like the veggies. As a group we tried an acorn squash and sweet potato fry appetizer which was very good and unique to boot. As with check in the service was kind of slow. It seemed like there was only 4 to 5 employees working in the entire place including both the hotel and restaurant - including the aforementioned front desk clerk/waiter. Weird. They also messed up an order but did not bill us for the mistake which was appreciated. I can't decide what I think about this place. It is probably your best option in Seneca Falls but I feel like they miss the mark for a hotel and restaurant which charges a premium and doesn't deliver on service. read more

Both of these stars are for the room. I loved the modern, sleek decor. The bed was extremely comfortable and everything was clean. Plus, every guest gets a plush robe to wear around their room. Now to that bad parts.... My bf and I were in Seneca Falls on a random trip upstate. We stayed for two nights at The Clarence. It's named after the angel in the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life" because Seneca Falls is assumed to be the town that Bedford Falls was modeled after. It's a boutique hotel, there are only 48 rooms. The rooms are more the size of a master bedroom than a typical room you'd find at a chain hotel with a sofa, dresser, etc... These rooms have giant beds, bedside tables, flat screen tv, and a bathroom. This isn't a hotel for kids, they'll have a much better time at a chain hotel with a pool, a free breakfast, and a big room. The first star deducted is for service. We were helped by five different people at the front desk during our stay ranging from a teenager with an attitude to an older lady who seemed bothered that we had questions. The staff seems to have missed hospitality training. I'm from NYC, I don't need to be coddled, but I also don't want to see you roll your eyes at me. Second star deducted for lack of attention to detail. As part of the deal we got on our room we got a bottle of wine and a "cheese plate." The "cheese plate" was a bowl of cheese cubes and grapes that still had plastic wrap on it. They neglected to supply the room with wine glasses or a wine key so we had to run downstairs at 10:30pm to get our wine opened at the bar. Also, the bathroom products are WAY over scented. They smell like magnolia flowers (one of my least fave smells ever). Third star deducted because on our last night the fire alarm went off 5 times between 10:30 and 11:00 pm at night and NOT ONCE was there someone at the front desk to tell us if we should actually evacuate. My boyfriend had to go looking for someone. This place has so much potential but they really need to step it up if they're going to reach it. read more

This hotel was a lucky find. Right in the heart of Seneca Falls this century old hotel is in walking distance from all the local historical attractions. We stayed in a Queen Suite. For being so affordable there is no skimping out on luxury. High ceilings, hardwood floors with well placed rugs, classic yet modern tiling in the washroom, tastefully decorated, and nearly floor to ceiling length windows that overlook the downtown area or Women's historic park (depending on what side you stay on). This is easily the best for value hotel I have ever stayed in. The restaurant on the first level was excellent. I ordered the Chicken French and my partner ordered the Pulled Chicken Sandwich. Both were great. Hand cut French fries were tasty. My chicken was perfectly cooked and lightly breaded. I even appreciated the homemade cornbread croutons in the salad. Even if you aren't staying in the hotel I can definitely recommend the restaurant. We don't make it to New York very often, but next time we head this way we will definitely be staying again. read more
