We had high hopes for Iron Chef after reading so many 5-star reviews. But we were less than impressed. We are originally from the east coast and we're excited to see a PuPu platter, egg rolls and crab rangoons on the menu. These items are hard to find in Phoenix. (And crab puffs are NOT the same as rangoons.). The positive - the crab rangoons are the BEST we have found in Phoenix. It was the first thing we tried and we really thought we were in for a great meal. Not so much. The PuPu platter was just ok. The fried shrimp were pretty good, and the tempura veggies were ok, but the spring roll was mushy inside and the egg roll was overcooked and bland. This was not like any PuPu platter we'd ever had before. We also ordered the Rock & Roll sushi roll. It too was bland and lacked texture. As it's one of the deep fried rolls, I would expect a decent crispy exterior, but this was not crispy. It also seemed to be a rather fat roll, more like the size of a burrito not a sushi roll. Service was ok. Nothing outstanding. We actually saw a couple get up and leave because after getting their drinks (think it was just water), their server never went back to take their food order. We probably won't be back, unless we're really craving some good crab rangoons. And even then, we'd probably only order those to go and pick up the rest of.our meal elsewhere. read more

Whenever my wife and I travel,m we always visit the local AYCE Sushi restaurant. So happy we found this one. The service was very attentive and pleasant. Sashimi is included at no extra cost, a limit of 12 pieces per person, but still an incredible bonus. The sashimi was very good. Fresh, large portions, and very tasty. The nigiri was also good. Large pieces of fish over small portions of rice. My only complaint was there was no mackerel on the menu. I also had the salmon Kama. Wow! Normally kama is small with little fish. This one had whole portions of salmon attached, very tasty. The large portion surprised me, so be ready for it, The selection of special rolls was very limited, but the ones they had were good. We always finish our meals with green tea ice cream. Although they were out of green tea ice cream, they had a delicious banana ice cream. Once again, be prepared for large portion. Normally a tiny taste in a tiny cup, here, a humongous bowl of fresh scooped ice cream. Probably enough for three. So, the quality and portions were excellent. How about the price and value? This was absolutely the best value in AYCE sushi I've ever seen. The menu says $32.99 which would be a great price, but they said the menu was wrong, dinners were $31.99. How often do you get a menu error in your favor. $31.99 includes: Sashimi Drinks Huge portions Loads of dessert And, they don't charge for left over food. In fact, they packed an uneaten salmon Kama for us to take at no extra charge. $31.99 Crazy! read more

This is one of the rare occasions that I waited until my 5th is it to write a review. You are probably asking yourself why wait. Well in this case the food is much better than you would expect out of a small shopping center in Paradise Valley AZ. Not only was it good there are so many different ways to try their food. You have got to have balls of STONE to call yourself Iron Chef! We have tried everything from the Orange Chicken to the spicy Edamame which might be the best edamame I have ever eaten! Then there is the all you can eat for $32.50, which includes your drink, soup, appetizer, and desert. Both sashimi, and sushi, roll and Hand rolls. Unbelievable. Lastly there is the service which is next level. So if you are ever in the area of Shea and Tatum northwest corner to be exact on the Tatum side. I'd already been here before ordering off of their regular sushi menu and enjoyed it. I was very pleasantly surprised by the AYCE option. The sashimi was large and the rolls were made well. I've come here for years and the food is great the chefs deserve a raise and the lady always working needs to not be so mean every time. every time I go she completely ignores me and everyone I am with and is just an unkind person. Good luck getting a sentence in and not getting cut off or hoping for any sort of customer service. Also when she fully watches you put your tip on the tab or when you give a 100$ bill for a 60$ meal and she assumes the rest is tip it's super awkward! Hope this helps. read more

10/10 would NOT recommend coming here. The food is okay but the service is completely unacceptable. Not only was my waitress very rude she treated me with zero respect. Forced me to close out my all you can eat tab by putting the receipt in front of me and waiting till I paid. She then proceeded to stare at the card reader as I entered the tip. Then threw my receipt on the table and she said an extremely rude statement to me. Once again, do not come here the staff is horrible and the service is the worst I've ever experienced. read more

Another great sushi meal on the patio at Iron Chef. Our favorite server Sylvia is always eager to please and has our drinks ready when we sit down. Edamame and cucumber salad are discounted to $2.50 before 5pm and with a drink purchase. Always love the salmon skin hand roll here, when I order extra crispy. Although not on this visit, have also enjoyed the dragon and rainbow rolls. Companion has the spider roll every time! Cheap hot sake or bombers, your choice. Happy regular customer here. read more

We always loved Iron Chef. The food is fresh and tasty. We were regulars for years. Over the past year, we have noticed that the main waitress, Cindy, who may be either the owner or the manager, has become very irritable. We can deal with her slamming our drinks on the table and walking away and not even acknowledging us but when she sent over another young new waitress and accused me of stealing food off of my husbands all you can eat plate that's where we drew the line. I am a vegetarian and I don't even eat fish so the idea of her thinking I ate food off of my husband's plate is just ridiculous. And for her to send someone else over who wasn't even waiting on us is absolutely insulting. So sadly, we will never be back. They lost loyal customers that day. read more

Have I found my new favorite AYCE sushi in Phoenix? The vote is still out but damn this restaurant is making a strong case. First things first - the slices of fish are thicc :) Unlike some places that try to get you full with lots of rice, Iron Chef serves generous slices of fish. Another plus is that they offer some popular choices of fish that aren't common at other ayce sushi places. The other places charge a premium for those pieces. Of course, there's a limit on how many you can order with those really popular nigiri pieces but that's acceptable in my book. Fresh, tasty, decently sized portions - Iron Chef checks almost every box I have. Again, I'm only speaking about the sushi. Had the pleasure of discovering iron chef today. The owner was absolutely fantastic, and went above and beyond! I ordered egg drop soup, and chicken lo mein to go. Both were absolutely delicious! Super excited to have found a restaurant with reasonably priced sushi! My favorite rolls are the tuna avocado and spicy tuna rolls. The quality of the fish used is good which is the most important thing. The service is phenomenal and the restaurant is clean. Great ambiance on the covered patio. Highs and Lows. After the great reviews for Iron Chef, my son, a sushi lover and I came to this Chinese run sushi restaurant. Five stars to the service and hospitality. Our server, Cindy was super kind and attentive even though it was busy, she made sure our food came quickly. She filled up our water glasses and was lovely. When we ordered a second round of miso soup and ginger salad for my son, she even brought me a complimentary salad. The miso soup was flavorful with konbu seaweed. My son told me he preferred the crunch of nori sprinkled on top, but I thought the deep flavors in the soup was fabulous. The sashimi and the sushi was fresh and cut well. They were also presented in a lovely way. My son thought that the crab meat in the California roll was a little strong tasting. I just told him that it tasted more authentically like crab unlike most places that served imitation crab meat in their Caifornia rolls. Their rendition of the volcano roll was fine. We are not really fans of deep fried rolls, but prefer the flame grilled finish ones. However, the flavors were fine. Why not 4 or 5 stars? The men's bathroom was not clean. My son complained that there was puddle that smelt of urine in the corner. Next, in my complimentary salad, while eating heartily, I bit into something hard. It looked like a piece of raw lobster shell or a spine of a fish fin. But kudos to Cindy, she apologized profusely and took the charge off for the salad and miso soup. read more

Rat droppings all over the floor. Everything seemed really dirty and not clean. Left as soon as I could after seeing this. They were all outside and inside the restaurant. I'm not sure how no one else noticed this. They were everywhere. I would suggest keeping an eye open once you get there. read more
