Very clean hotel, rooms, wonderful breakfast, great location in the middle of the action - seriously, zero complaints - son met us with his car - car was safe - just had to share because it was a fantastic hotel and I don't understand its "ok" rating - I would definitely stay here again when we return for more time in Chicago

We've stayed here quite a few years and mostly it's a good experience. I am platinum and an IHG ambassador so I do get certain perks. This trip those were def ignored and little acknowledgment was given. Was told no upgrade to suite available even when I offered to pay for it however when I went to the app there were 2 listed as available. The fridge didn't work, the housekeeper would put the soap dish on top of our belongings to clean and leave it there and we had to use our bathtub for storage as there is no shelves or drawers at all. I can't say we will stay here again next year. Michael Jordon's is always good. But it was extra loud this year too. They overbook events and there are proms also in way too much

A big disappointment. We have passed by this hotel while visiting Chicago in the past and have wanted to try this hotel. When we first checked in, we asked for one of the renovated rooms. Diego at the front desk insisted that there was none left and the only room that was available was the older handicap accessible room. There was an upgraded room available so we asked if we could be upgraded. He said it would cost an extra $1500! He insisted we had no other options! He wasn't very understanding, nor friendly. He just made us very unhappy. As we left the front desk, we were left with a bad first impression of the hotel and its service. It didn't get any better once we went to our room. It was an older room, looked dated and just looked bare and cold. The bathroom had a pedestal sink which made everything inconvenient. No place to hang your hand towel or place your toiletries near the sink. We were waken by sirens throughout the night. Only plus was the location and a Starbucks connected to the hotel. I am pretty objective since we travel all the time. I doubt we will stay at this hotel again. There are just too many other options with better quality of service and better accommodations.

Andrew at the desk was super friendly and welcoming! I was supposed to have a city view, but when I got into my room it faced a wall. Within minutes, I called hotel services and was moved to the correct type of room. The City view consisted of the main road and part of the river. Nice I was pretty cold here, even with the heat on 80. An engineer came out to test and said the heat was working properly. It just flows on the ceiling across the wall. He also put in a request for me to get blankets, which were brought up within 10 minutes! Guest services works fast! They also have a text chain that you can message to help help at anytime This hotel is along a very busy/tourist area. Quite a few restaurants etc. Internet access was a hit and miss. As a IHG member, I had free internet. But it would constantly drop from my laptops. I pretty much had to use the hotspot on my cell phone to access internet. Bed was comfy. Room was kind of tight. There aren't any drawers to use. There is an expensive wet bar. And a small fridge. No microwave in the room. Bathroom was nice and spacious. Only quip, there was a bottle of shampoo next to a bottle of lotion on the bathroom sink. Are people washing their hands with shampoo now? Not me! lol Apparently there are different towers for this conference hotel. No issues with wait times for the elevators. Michael Jordan's and an Asian restaurant are located on the property. Room service is also available. I spent $74 on breakfast for room service.... yikes! Food was good tho. $10 auto gratuity which is the same as a TIP per the person who dropped my food off

If you are a fan of classic Chicago architecture -- the Intercontinental is a hit. Well refinanced rooms, with modern touches, but unlike many "chain" hotels this has a sense of place -- a sense of importance in history. I was able to stay on one of the highest floors where there were only a handful of rooms per floor, which made the experience (and floor plan) unique. The service was the best among any luxury hotel I have stayed at in Chicago (which was impressive -- since they had a huge Sales conference going on at the same time). I was definitely treated well -- and they took every opportunity to suggest ways to enhance my experience. Truly 5-star staff, in a beautiful historic property.

I won a 2 night stay including breakfast staycation here in a raffle last year! Due to fur baby circumstances it took me a while to redeem but I finally did it. I picked a weekend, Memorial Day as well, so I would not have to go to work Monday morning after check-in. Not sure I have ever been in here, (I see the Starbucks first, or Jordan's restaurant) but it is a gorgeous lobby with dimly lit atmosphere and a few seats. The high ceilings are a great touch, with a balcony and stairs to the 2nd floor, where the breakfast is located. I don't know which tower my room was, but I got a junior suite on the 27th floor, facing east-ish. I was glad the check-in clerk treated us well and not like 'coupon-redeemers'. I came in on Saturday, the same day as the Michael Jordan Steakhouse reservation, but that's another separate review. I went to the room and it was beautiful! In 1 room there were 2 tables, minibar with fridge, coffee maker, sofa, and tv. The other room had ANOTHER Tv, closet, bedroom, and entrance to the bathroom. It was a room big enough to entertain several people really but I wanted some 'me-time'! Elevators work using key cards when going up and to the pool/gym so keep that in mind. The next day I went to breakfast/brunch. The place is called 'Center court' a basketball term as it is somewhat adjacent to MJ's Steakhouse. It can be ala carte or full buffet which is what my package included. It was slightly smaller than many I've seen but it had a bit of everything: hot and cold cereal, fruit, yogurt, proteins, eggs, bacon, pancakes, and toast for making. I wish they had more pork free sausages and bacon, but maybe they were part of the a la carte menu? Drink service was by the wait staff, as in coffee, juice water, etc. I tried a little of everything and it was good, but the eggs were just ok. The bathroom was spacious but not huge, and I don't love the toilet by the shower, but it was a good break from the tiny one I have at home. The final highlight, besides the location where one can walk to so many attractions and places to eat, is the pool. We didn't use the swim or use the gym but I wanted to sit by the pool and read. It was quiet and active on and off for a Sunday afternoon. We sat in lounge chairs and absorbed the heated room (it was chilly in May) and it was awesome. I liked seeing showers in the locker room, so many hotels have gotten rid of showers these days, it's a shame. It's a good way to save time when you share a room. They enrolled me the rewards program, so I'd consider staying there again to earn points!

Cutest mini ketchups served at business breakfast. Even a ketchup hater like me couldn't deny how cute they are.

Right in the heart of Chicago. Very walkable area - you can get a deep dish pizza, visit the Starbucks Reserve, shop at all the stores (everything from Coach to Marshalls), and do all the sightseeing. Amenities are great - loved the light up mirror, water bottles in the room, Bluetooth connection to TV for music. Bring your bathing suit because the pool will "wow" you. Gym is a bit tight, but there are different areas to spread out. Would have loved fans and small towels (not just pool sized ones).

The Doctor and I wrapped up a wonderful staycation here at The InterContinental. For an old hotel, it is in remarkable condition. We decided on a king size suite in the Executive Tower on the 22nd floor. The room was in remarkable shape and very spacious (about 900 sq ft). There was a full size sitting room well separated from the main bedroom. We also had two full bathrooms and that really made the stay quite nice as we could both spread out our toiletries and not rush to make time for the other person to get ready for the day. There was a mini bar (which we never use) and a nice size fridge to store our bottles of bubbles. The suite had two entrances, one for the sitting room and one for the main entrance to the bedroom. Each entrance had its own door bell and you could set the doorbells to "do not disturb". There were two separate closets, each equipped with its own safe and two working desks. Both showers had great water pressure and there were plenty of towels. The bathroom in the main bedroom area had a separate glassed walk-in shower and tub. The second bathroom off from the sitting room had a shower in the tub. Both tubs had grab bars for those that may need assistance getting in and out of the tub. The suite had windows on all side except the the wall next to the hallway, so there was plenty of natural light. And the bed was so amazing! Not sure what kind of mattress it was, but man when my head that pillow, I was out! It was so comfortable! The Doctor thought it might be one of those foam ones, but we couldn't see the name due how tight the sheets were tucked in, but it was so comfortable! Usually I sleep with music, listening through headphones. Twice during our stay, I fell asleep before I could plug in. The location is ideal as there are a lot of restaurants, bars and shopping within walking distance to visit, but if you want to just hang out in the restaurant, there is the option of Michael Jordan's place downstairs or the Mexican fusion place that has happy hour margaritas from 3-5 pm. The Doctor and I spent part of an afternoon roaming around the floors where the various rooms for events were, just looking around at the stain glass, art work, fountains, etc. There is a lot of history in this hotel, with a lot of Egyptian and Messianic symbolism. There was a lovely green couch I would have loved to have packed up to take home with me. The staff all round was was pleasant and attentive. Everyone we ran into spoke and said good day or hi. This will definitely be a repeat for us as a staycation location, but probably will look to move to a higher floor for a better view. While we did have a few of Michigan Ave, the river and lake, there was a decorative wall/ledge outside that was about halfway up the view of the window. One of the things l like to do is sit and watch traffic go up and down the streets, however with the wall placement, I was required to stand to see traffic on Michigan Ave. But this was not a deal breaker for me, we still had fun. We even got to see a protest about Ukraine in front of the Wrigley Building. If you are looking for someplace to stay that does not require a car and is a short walk to a lot of restaurants and shopping, this is the place to stay.

*This review is for the pool pass only. Me and my mini me decided to get a pool pass during spring break. The concierge & staff were very friendly; although there was some slight miscommunication about locating the locker room & programming the locker. Anyways, it is a gorgeous gym & Olympic size pool. I also made reservations for the Michael Jordan steakhouse which is conveniently located inside of the hotel.

You cannot beat this location on the Magnificent Mile a couple of blocks to the Riverwalk. Beautifully decorated hotel, welcoming staff, clean rooms and an insight Starbucks!

We recently visited Chicago and stayed at the Intercontinental. As soon as I walked in I fell in love with the hotel. I loved the decor and vibe. We arrived earlier than check-in time. Our room was not available, which was understandable, however the front desk agent gave us free drink coupons. Although it wasn't necessary, it was greatly appreciated. All the staff was friendly and attentive. We left our luggage at the bell desk and the gentlemen working there were also very friendly and just had a great demeanor. Forty minutes later I received a text that our room was ready. Our room was clean and the bed was so comfortable. We truly enjoyed our stay here. Next time I'm in Chicago I will definitely stay here again.

little old refrigerator on the way to entrance and bathroom

this place needs a major renovation! carpet smells, a/c very noisy and not very effective the room was already setup to 65 when we arrived but wasn't cold at all. We turned off the a/c and carpet started to smell even more like pets or never been washed. We found a little refrigerator in the middle of the entrance, weird position as easy to trip on that thing, we wanted to unplug it and put it outside the room we moved it next to the wardrobe instead. Telephone didn't work couldn't even call front desk. Noisy street and we were on 15th floor. This is in our opinion a barely 2 star hotel. Breakfast was like $46 after automatic tip and tax for 1 person, no shuttle to airport, parking at $88 a day. The "free" internet worked only the first day. We will never come back here. Hope this helps you... I now need to edit my review and add: but if you complain you get a free breakfast! I don't know why as a free breakfast doesn't change the above facts but that's what we got.

Booked a decent 2 night stay with points but was still charged $32/night in amenities. Room itself was standard, quite small and old - no outlet by the mirror so wife had to do her hair elsewhere. The pillows are the worst - too soft and had no hold, got awful night of sleep both nights, even with both pillows stacked on top of each other. Friendly staff at the check in check out counter, and being a platinum member we were given vouchers for free beverages at the bar. Now on to the good things: - Prime location, very walkable, navy pier less than 20 min walk away, close to shops and public transit - Gym with weights and plenty of treadmills, connected to a beautiful pool (see pic!). Sad we didn't bring our bathing suits otherwise would've taken advantage

Ask the Community - InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile

Is it pet froendly?

They are pet friendly with a $100 pet fee and if there is no pet damage to the room during your stay $50.00 of the $100.00 is refundable. Great hotel make sure to check out the pool!

Is it close to any good sports bars?

Yes it is walking distance to dozens of places! here is a link to help you find some.…

Is the parking free if you stay and are a guest?

No it's not free, in fact it's quite pricey $70 overnight. There are parking places around though, check Parkwhiz and icon parking.

Is there a fee for brining in small dogs?

The IHG app says it's $100 fee, of which $50 is refundable.

Is there a spa? As in a spa with spa treatments?

Yes, there is. And I highly recommend that you try it. You can also schedule massages in your room! And do try the beautiful vintage swimming pool!

Normally, that would meet my expectations for a four-star rating. What pushes it to a five, however, was the woman working the front desk, and more broadly, the genuine, go-out-of-their-way warmth of every staff member we encountered, from the security guard downstairs to the ladies managing the continental breakfast. We arrived in the morning, hours before check-in time, planning to drop off our bags so we could explore the city. Instead, the front desk agent offered a great solution: 'What if I check you in early for $25 so you can take your bags right up to your room?' I wouldn't have even thought to ask, and it made our morning seamless. Later, I watched her handle a long line at breakfast with multiple guest requests; she was completely unflappable, warm, and adept at putting people at ease. This may well be my new go-to hotel in Chicago.

Hampton Inn majestic will let you relive the Chicago fire!!!…read more Was not a fan of their elevators since they kept jumping from levels 6 and 7 and would randomly stop without being called. The last Hampton inn I got stuck in the elavator and had an off experience with getting help, so I chose to use the stairs. Upon using the stairs we were met with SEVERAL linen boxes blocking our only exit. They were all in different directions and could not be easily rolled out, especially when we were blocked behind them. Instead we had to parkour over it to escape. There was a valet driver sitting at the front and ignored us after I asked for help and continued to say she's just valet she can't do anything. These bins were there for well over an acceptable time, blocking the only stairs and fire safety exit but also for people that didn't enjoy their sketchy elevators. And again, pallets were there days later also blocking the ONLY emergency exit and stairwell exit. Completely unacceptable in a normal city let alone one with history of building fires. Exits should not be blocked and it's clear the building uses this space for "storage" often. Before the fire situation even happened, their breakfast situation was insane. Our first morning was on a Monday. Their service is until 10 am and around 9am we headed down for some fuel. By that time, the dining room was packed, the tiny buffet room was empty of food but packed with people who were waiting for tables, chairs and all of the food to be restocked. One woman was trying to run the whole operation while two men just stood behind the concierge desk and watched the shit show of breakfast service happen in front of them. Someone should have helped her get breakfast together. Even if it wasn't their job, in hospitality, their job as hotel manger or anyone who works in the hotel is to make sure the guest have a pleasant stay, not to look pretty sitting in front of the Hampton inn welcome to Chicago sign. Overall unorganized and not something nice to look at when you first walk into a hotel lobby, chaos. You would think the grievances would stop there. However we were then denied the benefits that we get as gold Hilton members. Previously at hiltons and Hilton branches we have been offered two bottles of water per room per day. Most of the time they would be offered upon check in (which they did not) and given daily throughout our stay. This time the concierge allowed my mom just to go grab them out of the fridge. The next day we did the same and the concierge Robyn gave me immediate backlash even after I said we were previously allowed to take them. She repeatedly said I was wrong and gave no hospitality to hear my side of the story. I didn't want to cause a scene and returned my water. She then slammed them onto our table as I was eating breakfast with my family. Definitely could have been better ways for her to deal with the problem and I did not appreciate the hostility coming from the concierge at 9 am. We were already all crammed at a small table because there are no seating arrangements easily accessible for families or even enough seats in the dining room. One star because housekeeping did great and my room was clean and refreshed when necessary (and because zero is not an option) Otherwise I would hope I never have to stay here again.

The staff were somewhat friendly until different things started to come up... 1st issue: Friday night the elevators completely stopped working. Big problem due to having a small infant and needing to get the stroller down. We were staying on the 10th floor. But an even bigger problem was that we started to notice floods of people come on our floor and notify us that there was not an exit even via the stairs!!!! My husband got on the phone with the front desk and the reply was "you are just going to have to wait for the elevator." This was completely unacceptable and UNSAFE- what if there was a fire? What if something dangerous was happening and we couldn't get out of the building? This itself would have landed this hotel at a 1-2 rating. The elevator issue didn't fill resolve itself for our whole stay- only 2/3 were in service and they took 5-10 minutes to show up each time. Seriously inconvenient. 2nd issue: they put one of our rooms (we had 3 groups) literally next to the pool. Kids were screaming their heads off beginning at 6:30am and it would carry on until 10pm. When SIL called down to the front desk she was told "sorry that's just how it is and it should quiet down soon." Again, completely unacceptable. We had young children and infants who needed to nap and go to bed early. 3rd issue: we asked for a late check out since our flight was later and we needed to get our baby to take a nap- after all of these issues they said they would extend it to 1:00, which was nice. We did then ask if it could be extended another hour and we were told it would cost $25. Fine... what was not fine was when there was banging on our door and someone walked in at 1:25pm to clean the room. It woke up our baby and completely defeated the purpose of us extending our late check out and paying the extra $25. 4th issue: apparently they don't clean the rooms unless you are staying for 3 or more nights? We didn't know about this and assumed we would get new towels since there is a sign in the bathroom saying "hang towels to reuse" or "if you would like new ones, place them on the floor". We needed new towels so we followed what it said and then were told our rooms wouldn't be cleaned or even checked to see if we needed new towels. Good things I will say: - very convenient area - provided a pack n play - Starbucks in the hotel - hotel room was clean Would have love for this stay to have been better since the Marriott is well known and usually a great place to stay.... but the lack of customer service makes it hard to want to book another room at a Marriott hotel.

I haven't been to the Windy City in years, and wanted to have a great experience. Unfortunately, this hotel didn't live up to its reputation in any way. This hotel is sleek and modern, but doesn't give an impression of luxury. It's minimalist, and I found the service to be minimalist as well. The front desk was polite, as were the bell/door staff, but I did not feel overly welcomed. My friend was staying with me, and when we entered our room, the first thing we did was check out the quality of the beds. I saw another review for this hotel, and the reviewer stated that the mattresses felt "hard and cheap". My friend and I, unfortunately, heartily agree with this assessment. In addition, the pillows were far too soft. We were both expecting an exceptional weekend full of rest- instead we were uncomfortable, and tossed and turned. We both agreed we should have stayed at The Westin, as they're known for their comfortable beds. The room could have also used a deep cleaning. There were splatter stains on the curtains, and a smear of something on the chair. The bathroom had mildew in the shower grout, and an old rubber band that was overlooked. The overall room decor was unremarkable. The doors are very heavy to the rooms, and there is a lot of slamming. This is worth mentioning, if you like sleeping in. Additionally, I had a negative experience with a member of the concierge team. I approached this unfriendly individual, and asked for help booking something specific, and they advised me to "call them or book online". So what is the purpose of employing a concierge when they offer zero value? I am not cheap by any means, but when I am spending this type of money for a hotel stay, I expect an exceptional experience. I would never expect to have a mediocre experience at a 5 star hotel, but that is exactly what I received. I wouldn't stay here again, and I wouldn't recommend it to others.

My room had two huge windows, which I appreciated for light. There is a restaurant on site, as well as a separate bar, and a café for coffee, snacks, and breakfast items. I would definitely consider returning to stay at this hotel when I come back to Chicago.

So the JW seemed affordable within the mix...at $700+ a night... I've stayed at a few JWs across Asia and the US. For whatever reason this one didn't seem to meet JW's normally high standard. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think it started with the lobby and bar. It was always overcrowded and noisy, and just didn't feel very intimate or elegant. That followed with the fact there's only one restaurant in the hotel and both times we visited it was nearly empty. It's tucked on the second floor back in the corner, and just feels like a standard obligatory hotel restaurant. The food was good but the ambience was just odd. The room was well-appointed, including a comfortable bed and soft sheets. And the bathroom had everything we needed. But the service day-to-day required follow up. They forgot to restock coffee, water and cups a few times, and when I called the front desk they delivered in a trash bag. There is a daily service charge that I believe is $50 a night and provides Wi-Fi, access to gym, and a free class. We went to use the gym to access the sauna and steam room, but learned that's part of the spa not gym so had to pay a separate per person charge. The spa was refreshing but fairly standard. Not like the Seoul Marriott with multiple heated baths and a cold plunge. Call me spoiled. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is very nice but for $700 a night and knowing what I know about most JW's this just seems slightly below their standard. I wouldn't pay that much again, but would come back for a more affordable rate.
