I had just arrived in Chicago after a 14-hour drive in a huge truck that wouldn't fit in most downtown parking lots. I was exhausted and stressed, but she was incredibly patient, helpful, and kind. She resolved my parking issue within minutes and clearly explained how everything worked. I would definitely recommend staying here, only because of the outstanding service she provided. read more

We show up and they gave us a shoebox room that is their "club room" outfitted with a full bed. The front desk was terrible. Comically rude. I wanted to book a room through the hotel directly but Guest Reservations used very deceptive tactics to appear as the River Hotel. The River Hotel must stop working with these online scam websites that use very decptive practices to lock people into non-refundable bookings. This hotel is the biggest catfish. I booked a Standard King. When I arrive at the hotel to check-in at 4pm, mind you just an hour after the allowed check-in time begins, they direct me to a digital kiosk where I have to fill out all my info, scan my card, and make my own keys. I'm randomly assigned a room, while a concierge stands next to the kiosk and claps patronizing when I finished checking myself in on the iPad. We get up to the "Standard King Room," and there's only one elevator so it takes 29 minutes to even get the car, and the bed isn't a king; it's two twin beds strapped together with a band. There's no fridge, no microwave, and the bathroom is a giant open shower with a drain in the middle of the floor. There's no counter, just a sink jutting out of the wall. I'm told by the concierge that the room is ADA compliant, but as a mobility aid user, I can promise this room was no such thing. There was not enough space to fit a wheelchair all the way into the room or even turn it around fully. Additionally, the AC had no filter and the door to the room was 3ft from the elevator. I request a different room at the front desk, and because all the king beds in the hotel are twins strapped together (even though they do not disclose that anywhere), they offer a Standard Queen - which the concierge PROMISES is an upgrade because it's in a "newly renovated" room. Guys. I don't know w newly renovated means to Club Quarters, but I this place was updated in the early 2000s. I've attached pictures of what the room looked like - because the pictures featured here on TripAdvisor and on their own site ARE HUGE LIES. Our "upgraded" room had a leak stain in the ceiling, stains in the carpet, the lighting fixture in the bathroom was dirty and rusting, the shower was open as well with a line of bricks along the floor to delineate a separation from the rest of the bathroom, and it overlooked an closed-off alley with a dumpster so the room was dark all day. There was dust on every surface. And despite a sign on the door that says to use the do not disturb sign if we don't want the room serviced, we learn that the room is "service on request" only, AFTER we came back from a long day and didn't have towels to use or any toilet paper. When we called down for new towels the person at the desk literally huffed before saying they'd send someone up. On top of all of this, the third floor, where they "upgraded" us to, has open access. Every other floor requires a keycard to gain elevator access, but the third floor doesn't. And since there's no one at the front monitoring anything because they make you check in on an iPad, anyone can just walk into the hotel and go to the third floor. Anyone. And guess what? They did. We found people outside our room just roaming the hall. This is the wildest, most unprofessional hotel l've ever stayed in. Check these photos, and don't trust t photos on their website. Stayed there for one night. I booked the River Hotel but was assigned to a room in Club Quarters Hotel (CQ Hotel). It turned out to be the same hotel as the one I booked, just different names, as the latter was first built. My room was on 15th floor and had a great view of Chicago River. The location was also good: about 6 minute walk from State/Lake station and only 1 minute walk from the famous Michigan Ave. However, I was disappointed to know that the hotel adjust the temperatures of all rooms simultaneously. In other words, I could not adjust the temperature in my room by myself. This is really bad because different people have different preference of temperature. I ended up having a cold night! Not likely to book it again. read more

I knew there had to be a catch! A decent hotel rate in the heart of Chicago and only $33 to park a car overnight seemed too good to be true. Standard parking in Chicago is $55-$70 overnight.. The location is the best part of it and it's literally right across the street from the Chicago river on Wacker Drive, directly across from the Trump hotel . That's the only good news besides fast Internet (AT&T 160x160 Mbps). The rooms are extremely tight and cramped and the walls are paper thin. I'm not sure if this is everywhere or probably just on the 12th floor but directly above there seems to be some kind of either kitchen or laundry room. Almost 24 hours a day you hear movement and something on casters check! The bed is not comfortable and is too soft and you'll find yourself sinking in the middle . So don't expect a restful sleep in addition to the loud sounds. Also, the parking is not in the hotel or anywhere near the hotel... You have to walk about two blocks to a public parking where they have made their special arrangement. Won't repeat, that's for sure. The old adage rings true - if it sounds too good to be true, then it is too good to be true! Caveat Emptor. read more

River Hotel, AKA (CQ) Club Quarters Hotel is located on E. Wacker Dr. near N. Wabash Ave. on the Loop in Downtown, literally across the beautiful Chicago River. The location is perfect! Short walking distance to everything such as the Riverwalk, Millennium Park, Willis Tower, and so many eateries. We stayed here one week and our stay was a pleasant one. The front desk was efficient. The housekeeping service was very prompt when I called, they responded quickly. We stayed on their 29th flr, which made it difficult to get the elevator during check-in/out times every day (so we gave ourselves extra time when leaving during those hrs). There's 2 elevators depending on which floor you stay on (so make sure to get on the correct elevator for your floor). We selected their 'Superior Queen Room', which had a beautiful view of the city, a work desk, a closet with ironing board, bathroom amenities, hair dryer, microwave, and minifridge. The room was on the smaller side, but it had everything we needed. On their 2nd flr, there's an 'Espresso' machine providing complimentary coffee 24/7 for their guests! Also, a living room set-up with plenty of seating and business center with a full sized conference room. They have complimentary water bottles so that you fill them up at the purified stations on floors 11-24. I really liked this because I didn't have to buy my own water. Overall, we had a relaxing and positive experience at this hotel and will definitely stay here again when visiting Chicago. read more

10/10!! This hotel is truly beautiful, when you walk in there is an instant feel of relaxation, comfort and luxury! The architecture, design and style was delightful, glad I took up on this recommendation. My room had an amazing view (photos attached). Everything in the room was neat, clean and easy to locate. Very spacious bathroom, and main room. Streaming services in the room were ideal. The water/water bottle stations located on select floors were very accommodating. Ronnie was phenomenal! He is someone I will always remember during this experience. Ronnie was helpful during the check-in process, room selection and at the end of the stay with checking my bags temporarily and getting a car. He and other staff members had great customer service! This hotel will for sure be on my list for stays when traveling to Chicago. It's in the heart, right by the riverwalk and in walking distance of great attractions. I had dinner at Ocean Prime right next door (great food) and was in a short distance from a historic Blues spot! I got excited all over again writing this review! Highly recommend. read more

The styles of the room is terrible but the view is nice I wish you could have more space to look out the window. I booked through a third party site and once I arrived the had me pay an $100 security deposit. Had a great time staying at the River Hotel for 4 nights. It is in a great location and walkable to a lot of locations or a quick walk to a bus stop or the L train. We got a double double room that had two queens that had their own separate space and two bathrooms. We had a nice view of the river. Staff was friendly and we enjoyed the free water bottle stations. First time staying here and I think it's a solid choice. Not overly amazing but better than some. The location is perfect though. You are super close to many restaurants, bars, shops and other attractions. If you request an Uber you are very close to most things so it won't cost you much. Upon checking in, I waited just a few minutes and they allowed me to check in early which I thought was fantastic since I was about 2 hours early. They have a coffee/expresso bar on the 2nd floor complimentary which is very nice too. Water is also provided at no cost. The rooms are okay. Again not amazing but simple. I had a room view of the city which was super nice. The heater is very loud though, I couldn't hear the tv very well due to it. That was kind of annoying. One other thing, I prepaid with the package that included parking. I assumed it was on-site parking but upon check in I learned it's several blocks away about a 10 min walk. My husband had a bad back and I wouldn't want to walk alone so I opted for valet inside. So essentially I prepaid for parking for nothing. I think they should be upfront that it's not onsite or valet parking you are paying for. Annoying. Otherwise I enjoyed the stay and due to the location I would probably stay again. read more

I recently stayed at the River Hotel. I stayed for 5 nights in June and it was truly the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. First, right off the bat, at check-in the elevators in the hotel were down. While waiting to check in, I watched the manager and maintenance person manually open one of the elevators. They then placed signs in front of all of the elevators stating that they were out of order. Shortly after, they opened up one elevator, allowing guests to use it. I expressed concern about the fact that only one of four elevators were working and how could we be sure that the one working elevator was reliable if the other three had broken down. My concerns were immediately dismissed and I was told "ma'am, it will be fine". The one working elevator was not enough to keep up with the demand of all of the hotel guests and there was rarely room to get on it because it was so full (way over recommended capacity). As our trip went on, the one "working " elevator would not come to the floors when the button was pushed and guests had to call the front desk from the hallway to ask that the elevator be "manually" sent up to retrieve guests from their floor. Despite calling the front desk and asking that the elevator be sent to retrieve us on our floor it never came. Several times during our stay, we had to go up and down the 12 flights of stairs to get to our room. This was absolutely miserable, given the fact that it was the hottest weekend of the year and there was no AC on in the stairwells or hallways. Additionally, during our stay while sitting in our room, someone accessed our room with a key card and began to come in... We immediately screamed and the person shut the door and left. When we called the front desk, they said it was probably just a maintenance person... We advised that we had not called for a maintenance person and that the person tried to enter our door with zero notification and completely unannounced. The front desk did not see this as a concern, although we felt very unsafe after this occurred. I was denied speaking with a manager during my stay and called and left a message for a manager after leaving which was never returned. Last week I sent an email to management as well as to the hotels main email address and still have not been contacted. Not only did this hotel have extreme safety, security, and ADA violations/concerns, they have done absolutely nothing to make these issues right despite my multiple attempts to contact them. read more

The female receptionist is in need of proper customer service training. Her responses were snarky and condescending. Earlier this morning, I was attended to by the male receptionist, who was professional and polite. Although he wasn't able to check me in early, he advised me why and courteously asked me to return at 9 to check room availability. When I came back at 9:30, I already knew he wouldn't be there, as he had informed me earlier. However, the receptionist I encountered at 9:30 seemed irritated by my request to check in early. She rudely informed me that no rooms were available. When I asked if it was possible to pay for an early check-in to guarantee a room, she dismissively said that option didn't exist. This was clearly untrue, as my husband later checked his email and found we were still being offered the early check-in option. It was obvious she simply didn't want to assist us. read more

I stayed here for my birthday. The Chicago river view was nice. Checking in, there were no issues, the staff was helpful throughout the whole process. I liked the fact that there was an option for self park, in a garage that allowed in/out privileges. Although, it would have been helpful if the staff could inform you that the garage is about a 7 min walk....which is fine since I didn't have much with me. But imagine if you had all your luggage with you & the staff didn't inform you or offer to leave your stuff by the desk for you to go park the car. The room was a decent size and everything was good. I liked how there was a water station on the floor. I think that should be available at more hotels. I had found 2 dirty hand towels that were hanging on top of the shower when I was going to shower at night. Ugh. How can you miss that if you cleaned the room?! I called downstairs and they kind of brushed me off, didn't apologize but then said they would send housekeeping with new towels. I would stay again, but next time, I will have to inspect and go through everything right when I walk into the room. read more

Water bottles and filling stations were a plus and in case you didn't catch it before you absolutely cannot beat this location. We would definitely stay here on future trips to Chicago. read more

Perfect location and the price was right. You are steps away from the River Walk and all of the downtown attractions. The espresso/ coffee machine on the 2nd floor was a nice touch. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. It wasn't a 5 star hotel or a 5 star experience but I don't spend much time in the hotel when I travel, so that stuff isn't important to me! An amazing experience!! We got 3 rooms. When we got there, their system was down and because of that the lobby was full. That didn't stop the customer service and a specially Tony!! He remained calm and did everything in his power to help us and make sure we were happy. Because of the system being down, they offered us free parking, which was so nice of them. This is a prime location for a hotel! It's super close to any mode of transportation you can think of! Subway, bus, l-train, Divvy, etc. all just minutes away! It's also super close (walking distance) to lots of local restaurants and such. The Chicago river is also right outside! The room wasn't super great, but that's more of a me than them issue. Housekeeping didn't come at all during my stay, which led to trash build up (because they had tiny trashcans). No food storage situation, so I couldn't store any leftovers. The bathroom was small, but it had a fun mirror! Not a lot of amenities either, but if you're looking to explore and only use the hotel as a base camp, then this is fine! It was suitable because I spent most of my time outside! The staff were friendly and helpful! They have a "storage" room where you can check your luggage in prior to check-in and after check-out. Overall, it's decent. If you're willing to sacrifice some amenities and space for an AMAZING location, then this would work! read more

I found this hotel through Expedia when booking a trip to take my mom for her first visit. It was an affordable option and a great location. When I first booked, the room descriptions weren't really that detailed so I was concerned with the size of the room - I'd seen a lot of people's photos of smaller rooms, which would be a bit uncomfortable after a few days. We lucked out, though, and got a room not only with the queen bed, but also a pull out couch! yay! The room was clean, not new and perfect, but definitely clean. The first day we were out and about, I left the privacy tag on the door so they didn't clean. The second day, they just didn't clean... I had to call the desk to get new towels and the trash taken out. They ran up ASAP when I called, but I had to call. I'm not sure if I have super hearing or if the place is just a bit noisy, but one night someone was in the hall having a loud conversation at midnight and I could make out almost everything he said. When we got neighbors, they ordered room service or something and the attendant knocked and announced himself - then they came in and out a TON. It was a little frustrating. They should get soft close doors or something. The hotel offers free water from stations on most floors, snacks on the second floor all day and free wine at 5pm. The place is gorgeous - should have taken photos - the marble stairs are just so pretty! Location is great for tourists or those that don't know the city, too well. It's close to everything! We were able to walk around the city and still come back to chill in the afternoons. I'd go back. It's a great deal. read more

This hotel was very nice! Decided to go on a quick surprise trip with my girlfriend to Chicago. The day of, we found this hotel and it was the nicest and cheapest hotel closest to Millennium Park. It was perfect walking distance from everything even the river walk. Our room was very clean. The view was amazing for being cheap. The front desk people and staff were very helpful and nice. Parking there was easy and cheaper than a lot of other hotel parking. Overall, we would stay again. read more

This hotel was in a perfect location. Walking distance to most places if you're a tourist visiting Chicago. We pretty much booked the cheapest room available and it was still nice. Really great for value. When we arrived, the digital system was down but the staff were handling the situation really well. We felt really welcome with how the staff greeted us and we were able to check-in really quickly regardless of the difficulty. There is a water dispenser and empty plastic bottle for guests to refill their own water on every floor. Could easily miss though. It should be on the left side when you exit the elevator. The ice machine is on the 9th floor and the ice bucket is provided next to the machine. What could be improved: our room AC was really loud while operating. Not sure if that was normal for this hotel. This one is my personal preference. I like to sleep in the complete dark. There was a little bit too much light from the hallway coming under the door. read more

This place is an absolute dump! I tried to check in early and was treated extremely rudely just for asking... Then, for a 41 floor hotel that only has 2 elevators as is, one was broken down. I was on floor 34 so I had no choice but to wait 10 minutes every time I wanted to go up or down. I turn down the covers and there are brown stains on the sheets. There was not even bottled water in the room. Also the thermostat was not working. I will never stay here again. read more

We stayed here for 3 nights in October 2017. The location is phenomenal. We walked everywhere we needed to go and did not take a taxi or use the metro even once. We overlooked the river which was nice. Faced the Trump hotel across the river. Not so nice. We had some maintenance problems in our room that were attended to immediately. Good service. Free wi-fi that is pretty fast. The downsides: -street noise is pretty loud even at night. Takes some getting used to. -rooms are small, but not intolerable -elevators are small and slow (only two if you are above floor 11) -for some reason, staff, especially at check in, is not very friendly -can't adjust temperature in your room Location is the best thing going for this hotel. It simply cannot be beat. I would stay here again just for the location. Price was reasonable, less than $200 a night. read more

Check in staff was excellent and readily gave us recommendations for restaurants and activities near by. Hotel was very nice and we had an amazing view of the city. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in the heart of the city. Our TV didn't work a majority of the trip.. and at one point the tv remote was mistakenly taken up by the hotel staff when servicing our room. Phone in room did not work the whole time either. Woman who checked us out was rude. She explained that the TV issue was ongoing but no one informed us of the issue upon check in. We asked if we could sit in the lobby and she rudely said, "if you want to." Everyone is entitled to a bad day but she should realize we paid good money for our room and was unapologetic about our issues while staying at their hotel. read more

Location is the only reason to stay here. It's right on the river across from Trump hotel and a walk from the riverfront stuff and architecture tours etc. The hotel itself is modest but check in was easy and everything functional. We had to stay within a work budget so this was a good bargain. Upsides --location , refillable water bottles on each floor. Happy hour with wine at 5pm weekdays {didn't go to it but it's an option} Room has small kitchen area with fridge and stove etc in case you need those things. Downsides - we paid for a queen and got two twins pushed together {mattress was so hard on top of a married couple in twin beds } ; room service came around 930 --we were sleeping and hoped they'd return but low and behold we came back to a dirty room still mid afternoon they never popped back over. read more

This is my hotel of choice when I visit Chicago again. Excellent service from check in to check out. Excellent view, excellent location (23 minutes from the Oak Street beach and the Navy pier and 5 minutes from Boardwalk) and excellent communication from the front desk. We were able to check in super early and check out way later which really help. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. My only complaint was the hallways were a little humid but other than that, staying there made our trip much more enjoyable. I suggest you check them out if you plan to visit Chicago. read more

Friendly & helpful staff, nice views of the river, and perfect location! My husband and I enjoyed our one night stay. The room was in the smaller side & clean. We loved that they had a complimentary water bottle station right outside our room. We got a room on the 23rd floor overlooking the river. We were also about a 5-10 min drive to the 360 Observation deck (John Hancock Building), Skydeck (Sears Tower), and the strip of shops. Wouldn't mind staying here again in the future! read more
