Fairly bare bones with limited staff, no gym or pool, no rooftop access despite older reviews touting this perk, but our room (King Suite) was spacious and relatively clean! Bed was comfortable, bathroom was nice (great shower)! Some of the outlets didn't work, and the iPod alarm clock was from ancient times and didn't work for music sadly. Staff was generally lacking in hospitality (not present at the front desk and relatively grumpy when we did interact). But with that said, I do think we got what we paid for when you look at other options nearby. I'd probably not hesitate to stay again now that my expectations are tempered! read more

We recently hosted our company retreat at Ivy Hotel Chicago and had an amazing experience. Allison Daugherty was incredible to work with throughout the entire planning process and made coordinating a multi-day retreat with lots of moving pieces feel easy. She was always kind, responsive, accommodating, and genuinely helpful. The hotel itself was fantastic, and the rooms were HUGE. Our team was honestly in awe of how nice and spacious they were -- it almost felt like we had somehow been given the wrong rooms because they were so much better than expected. The location of the Ivy Boutique Hotel was perfect for what we wanted to do. We shopped on Michigan Ave, walked to the Bean, Grant Park, State Street, Navy Pier. We visited the Ice Cream Museum, Cultural Center, Apple Store Starbucks Reserve. Unfortunately the amenities at the Ivy Boutique Hotel were lacking. The Hotel does not have a pool, gym or restaurant. The bar in the lobby also doubles as the front desk. It feels awkward to enjoy a cocktail when guests are checking in and out. We were quite disappointed when learning on our arrival that the hotel's roof top deck is only available for private parties. There is a built in TV in the bathroom mirror that unfortunately was disabled. The reason given was the expense and lack of consistency. This business is dishonest and poorly run. I was charged $6 for a Voss water despite not touching a single item from their bar. They refused to refund the money when I called. Expect bogus charges as a matter of course here. It smelled bad in the room. The air conditioner didn't cool, so I cracked a window overlooking a trash dump in the back alley. read more

Beautiful hotel. Aesthetics were amazing in the lobby and in the rooms. I didn't reserve it for us but I would have reviewed the amenities. There was no microwave in the room but there was a fridge. There was no vending machine in the building. They recommended you to go 7/11 around the corner. No ice machine on the floors. If you wanted ice, you had to go to the front desk. The mattresses and couch cushions seem very worn down. The parking garage was also around the corner as well. If you are just in and out for a night, I think this is great but not for an entire weekend or week. read more

The good The staff was so friendly, the room itself was gorgeous and so spacious. The area was perfect, so close to everything. The bad Upon entering the hotel, we were a little nervous. The doors were broken and the bar was empty. The check in counter is at the end of their dark entry. The check in was fine, just a little weird with the constant reminders to give them a good review. The elevators were sketchy, they shook, made weird noises, and did not feel super safe. The rooms do NOT have noise deadening walls. Our neighbors and people above us were so loud. We could hear every word they said and every step they took. With all that being said, we would probably return if the price was right. The ivy hotel was very nice. We got a king suite for a very good price (under 150 per night). The room was very nice and spacious. It had its own living room, desk, huge king bed, bath, and other nice amenities. The hotel let us check in early spontaneously as well which was nice. I called the front and asked if I could pay for a late checkout. I was told yes, I could checkout at 3 pm for a $60 fee plus tax. I called back again to advise I wanted to do that and now the woman said it was $60 for each additional hour. I said she hadn't told me that price originally, and I would expect them to honor the initial pricing given. She kept arguing that she gave me the $60 an hour pricing all along, then back pedaled and said that she was distracted when I first called and didn't say per hour but this was now the correct charge- then she hung up on me! I called back and she honored the lower pricing but what terrible service. She lied when she realized she messed up and hoped I wouldn't stand my ground then acts like a child and hangs up. read more

The lobby is a cloud of artificial scent, it was hard to breathe, and the room reeked of cigarettes. If you're looking for a cheap place to stay, this is a decent option. Don't expect 4 star service or quality. The lighting in the room has a lot of room for improvement as well, if that's something that matters to you. The hallway was filled with the smell and started coming in our room. We called the front desk and they did come up shortly after to address it with the loud room. Thankfully they were quiet after. This was probably the worst hotel experience I've ever had. The mattresses on the beds are extremely worn, sinking very low into the bed frames, offering no body/back support, and we experienced significant back pain from sleeping in the beds as a result. The room was not the cleanest, the tv screen in the bathroom didn't work at all, the automatic switches to open and close the curtains didn't work. Then, there were some EXTREMELY loud, unidentifiable noises seemingly coming from the bathroom vents in the middle of the night??? This went on for hours, at 2-3 am, and woke us all up. We booked this room for peace, relaxation, and quiet, while my loved one recovered from a surgical procedure, and received everything but. This was honestly a terrible experience. I've stayed here a few times before, years ago, but the quality has significantly declined. I will not be staying here again. This hotel is "aesthetically pleasing" on the surface, but the true quality and "boutique" experience is non-existent. Not to mention we paid almost $300 for ONE night, for this. Don't stay at this hotel. Our first room had a plug in air freshener in the bathroom which we unplugged for health reasons. We found out why they had it--there was a mildew smell which intensified after a shower and was accompanied by black particles (mold?) being loosened when taking the shower. Upon request, they moved us. Interestingly, the next room didn't have the air freshener, indicating they knew the first room had a problem and just tried to cover it up. But I was willing to live with that. However, several hours after checking out, they charged me $6 and didn't send a receipt. I called and they said it was a mini bar charge. I did not take anything from the minibar and told them so. They rely on a manual inventory from housekeeping. Well, it was wrong--maybe they never restocked from a previous guest. Regardless, they refused to remove the charge. I left a detailed message for the manager as well as a follow up, but he did not contact me nor instruct the staff to follow up with me. It's only $6 but I protest on principle. I do not need to steal a candy bar from a hotel and resent essentially being called a liar. This hotel is not worth the risk of their shenanigans, including trying to conceal mold/mildew. Don't believe any response the manager may leave to this review as he had plenty of opportunity to rectify the situation, and after reading through other reviews (good ones likely mostly fake), I see I am not the only one with this issue. I suspect most people either don't notice the charge or don't want to take the time to fight it, and the hotel knows this. read more

This hotel was very spacious considering it was right in the heart of downtown Chicago. We had a king suite that included a king bedroom with TV, a sitting room with TV and push button draperies, a small bar area with a sink, an umbrella in closet to use and return (really helped as it rained two days during our start), and a bathroom with a separate rainfall shower and huge soaker tub. The sky terrace was nice. The staff were very responsive. And again the area was within walking distance of most attractions: Magnificent Mile, Bean, SkyDeck, Architecture River Cruises, Casino, and much more. The only downside was the 59.00 a night parking offered with hotel. We later found out there were some less expensive garage parking in the area. TIP- save yourself 30.00 a night and book through third party. I will update once final incidental charging is done as I see a lot of complaints about the incidental charges. We never used the mini bar and only parked for one night. Hope the billing allows me to keeps this a 5 star review! read more

I love this hotel!! And I love the bar even more. The ambiance is so relaxing. It's also a very clean hotel. It's very intimate and I love the fact that there are only 5 room on each floor. Jillian was my bartender. She was amaaazing! Total sweetheart and she knows how to make a killer drink. I had 3 drinks and all three were really good! I don't usually order Moscow mules but a very merry that she made for me was sooo tasty. It was so good....I told her I would be back for more. And I most definitely will. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to do a staycation this year. Last month he made a reservation here for 2 nights and 3 days. The hotel had a special deal for half of the hotel rooms and of course, he took the deal. When we arrived the young lady was nice and friendly. We check in early and she upgraded our room. We were on the 13th floor facing Ontario. The room was nice. The queen size bed was comfortable for me and my boyfriend. The living room was cute with a purple chair which I love. The light fixture I love is very modern. We both love the bathroom. The rain shower head was sexy and we want one in our studio getting fresh towels was nice too. And the photos all show this cool looking pink chair. We had no pink chair. The location is great. Couple blocks east of the Mag Mile. Plenty of shopping and dining around. It is a tight hotel so there are only maybe 4 rooms per floor. So that helped in terms of foot traffic etc. it was quiet. Saw a lot of reviews about the awesome staff at check in. Yeah they were fine. But it was just a normal check in. The bar/restaurant was closed when we stayed. Had to go off property for that. The lobby is tiny. read more

I realize these are trying times but for those of us who have to travel during this pandemic presume that the hospitality industry would remain, well, hospitable. That's not really what I found at The Ivy. I checked in for my 3 day stay to the information that the hotel would not have any food or beverage support (so guests had to go out and forge for literally everything on their own), even though everywhere else I have stayed have supplied simple baseline essentials like bottled water and grab and go foods, here you had to ask the slightly desponded front desk staff "hey I'm not from here, which direction do I go that's less "coronavirusy" to find some water?" When I first got to the room; the bed linens were torn and tattered. They had removed the refrigerator and the television service was intermittent. While the televisions worked, there were only four channels to choose from...when the service was available. Walls of the hotel are fairly thin so hope you like the sounds of your neighbors' coronavirus playlist beats and late night/early morning self procured liquor store find sound effects. Maybe the strangest about my stay is that my "do not disturb" sign was on but housekeeping came into my room while I was there, TWICE! (I said both times that my "do not disturb sign was on" but that obviously didn't matter. I mean, who does that and why?). read more

Just stayed at this hotel for two nights. The hotel was clean, really nice looking and staff was friendly and helpful. My first room had some issues with the TVs and just wasn't working after staff came to troubleshoot. We ended up in another room that night but the second room had no hot water in the room. They couldn't troubleshoot it that night but they offered to let us use the shower in another room. Kinda awkward so I refused. They mentioned they would look into it in the morning but no one came. The IVY was ok but I did not like it as much as I had hoped. The pictures make it look like a 5 but in real life it looks more like a 3. The hotel is starting to show its age and could use a renovation. The rugs and furniture need to be replaced. The couch looks nice in the photo but is uncomfortable and some type of pleather material. Sitting in the chaise was better than the other seats. The bed and living room table are low to the ground, not user-friendly. Cable is an old moving guide and no HGTV or Comedy Central, meh. The room was not very clean and that makes you wonder what was cleaned. Old coffee was left in the coffee maker so it was not cleaned and the floors were filthy. It clearly had not even been swept, a task that should be part of the bare minimum. I was never sent a final invoice, something that should always be at least e-mailed. While it is not uncommon to place a hold for incidentals, I have never stayed anywhere that would just run whatever amount they want without telling you in advance, unacceptable. They charged $100 to my card. I was not asked if everything was ok when I checked out so I didn't bother with any of this. I never have this many little things go wrong and I travel quite a bit so it was a bit disappointing. There were some good things. The bath tub was great and the water pressure was good. The staff was nice. I did not get a chance to go to the bar but the bartender said hello to me when I checked in. You need a key card for the elevator and the front desk is right next to it so the hotel felt safe. The minibar was well stocked and the wet bar is a nice feature. The bed was comfortable. I would not pay the crazy prices you see in the summer to stay here. It has potential but needs a renovation and the staff needs better training. Overall I prefer the Aloft, Moxy, or the Acme, which are usually along the same price point. read more

The hotel itself is fine. Comfy enough, convenient location, affordable. The true value is found in the staff. They go the extra mile, literally chasing you down the sidewalk to see if you need an umbrella. The bartender was great, the cleaning people do a really good job, (even if some of the bedding was stained), and the amazing woman Hoai Le behind the desk is employee of the month in my heart! I'd book another stay there if she was working. The room... could use an update on decor. Pretty cheesy furnishings, tv in a weird spot, not enough sunlight. We had a three night stay here and enjoyed our experience. Our check in was smooth and the desk attendant was pleasant and helpful. We stayed in the Studio Queen, which was very spacious. I liked that there were only 4 or 5 other rooms on the floor. The rainfall shower was amazing! Absolutely the best part of the room. There were two small issues that kept this from a five star review. First, the platform bed is a shin killer. We had to put barriers around the edges to keep from hitting them. Second, the rooftop bar was rented out for private parties two of the nights we were there. I didn't get the chance to check it out. Would stay there again if we were in Chicago. read more

Bed bugs. There are bed bugs at this hotel and the management was not only dismissive but negligent to concerns regarding my well-being or that of future guests. I would strongly urge people to reconsider staying here or--at the very least--request a copy of the professional pest report to see if they've been compliant with Chicago Department of Health laws. The reponse from management to my emails about refunding my stay and requesting confirmation that they would be thoroughly cleaning the rooms and completing a pest inspection for future guests was, "I am not offering nor approving a refund for your stay." This is our go-to hotel, but this trip is making us think we'll be staying somewhere else for our next trip. The valet parking is not in service during COVID, so we had to find a garage to park in. This ended up being cheaper, but we like the security of the valet and are willing to pay for that. Not the hotel's fault, but some (drunk?) person tried getting in our room at 4am by scanning their card and trying to open the door for about 10 minutes. The bath tub was dirty, and since housekeeping isn't happing for multiple night stays, we went to the desk to have it cleaned. The first person we talked to said no, they couldn't clean it since we already entered the room and wouldn't clean it until we checked out in two days. Thankfully someone else overheard and sent housekeeping up to clean it and tidy our room. Not sure what happened since the tub wasn't cleaned, but our room was made up. The couch pillows are stained, but besides that and the tub the room is clean. The room next to us plays loud music all day and night, despite hotel staff asking them to stop. Again, not the hotel's fault, but we've never had experiences before here like this. We've only previously been here in winter, and there seems to not be heat in the lobby or front bar. Being here for the first time in summer, there's no AC in those areas either. The rooms are huge and upscale, with an amazing bathroom. Location is perfect, being right by Michigan Avenue and essentially the center for restaurants and shops. I'm hoping this stay was just an off one with everything going on and room prices being lower, but we'll probably be looking around versus automatically booking here for our next trip. read more

Second time here. First time had my Jimmy Choo boots stolen, staff said they knew nothing about it when I reported them gone within 2 hours time. Requested towels, never came. Requested ice, said I had to come down. No deadbolt on lock, had to come up with my own security measures. Security "guard" if you want to call him that, was sitting downstairs on his phone for hours, slouched over with not a care in the world. Complete lack of customer service from front desk even though I was a Hotels.com gold member with certain benefits. If i could give this place negative stars I would. Not what we expected. Priceline made it look much more fabulous that what it actually was. The people at the front desk were all on different pages as to the early check in policy, and they never mentioned its a $40 charge to do so. I called to make sure the bar inside and roof top bar/ lounge was open before booking and they assured me all services were. Come to find out everything was actually closed due to covid and it raining for literally not even 30 minutes.. the blonde kid at the front desk was very rude and un accommodating. LOVED IT. let's get the cons out of the way 1.) The bar downstairs isn't open- which is the bar in the lobby. It's gorgeous, but isn't open. I was totally looking forward to having a drink there. 2.) Call me weird, but the toilet paper was horrible here! (Yes, I care about toilet paper) it was like sandpaper. 3.) Lighting in the bathroom isn't right at all for doing your makeup. You're better off trying to do it in front of the long mirror in the room. Pros: 1.) Beautiful room - loved the clean, modern vibe the room has. The blinds and curtains close and open with the push of a button. 2.) service- impeccable. Our room was ready by 2 instead of 4. I received a text when the room was ready. When we left for dinner, we came back to two desserts and a note on our nightstands. 3.) the Rooftop!!!!!!! Top floor (16th). Cocktails are great and it is spacious. There's really not a "wow" view, but it's a rooftop and it's Chicago- what more do you need? The music was amazing but not loud- house music. True Chicago music. I'll definitely return. read more
