We had a fantastic stay at this Virgin Hotel! This was my first time at a Virgin property, and while it's clear the building itself is older they've done an excellent job modernizing the space. Check-in was smooth, and we really appreciated being able to check in early. The room layout was thoughtfully designed, with the shower and water closet conveniently located near the entrance. I especially enjoyed the small touches, like the adorable hot water kettle--perfect for my morning tea--and the stunning city view at night, which made the stay even more special. read more

The stay was ok. We stayed in floor #20. Everyone was very friendly. The lines to get into the elevators at night time was crazy though! Beds were comfy. We could hear some music, probably from the rooftop lounge. read more

Checking in we asked the valet if we could use the luggage cart since it was out front. He said no problem. We loaded it up. As we were checking in we left the cart behind us and waited at the desk. That's when a bellhop emerged and grabbed the cart and said he could help us take the luggage to our rooms. We said no thank you, we had it, he insisted and asked for our room number. We declined politely again. He asked for the room numbers again. The man checking us in had to tell the bellhop to quit asking. We checked in on a Saturday and it was chaotic to say the least. The clubs were jamming but the hotel elevators were hard to find with room to use and being on the 22nd floor by an elevator we could hear the club music even with our door shut (big club is on 26). We were told they had sold out and we could not get any other room. The rooms door looked rebuilt like someone had broken into the place. It didn't look safe but it did feel sturdy upon further inspection. If you don't ensure the light by the front door is green the housekeeping services won't come. There is no sign for this. One night during our stay someone claiming to be from security rang our bell and knocked on the door. They were not in hotel uniform. They demanded to be let in because we had called for them. We had not called for security. I called the front desk. They said our neighbor must have called them. They hung up to handle it. Then, 15 min later, they called back to say that our TV had in fact called them. Our TV was off. We never turned it on once after checking in and turning it off. When I tried to have valet get our car via text it told me there wasn't any attendant available. I got that text as an uber was dropping me off at the hotel and I needed the car. There were two attendant's at the station standing there. The bathroom had massive dust in the exhaust fan from years of use without being cleaned. The chair had a cigarette burn in it. This stay was more Motel 8 than luxury hotel. read more

I attended a Broadway pop up bar at the Virgin Hotel. We asked the bell hop how to get to the rooftop and he was able to direct us to the elevators. They have a nice rooftop bar situation. It is on the smaller side but it is a vibe. Part indoor and places to sit outdoors. Lovely spot. read more

Had a great time at the here! Our room was clean, and amenities were solid. TV, iron, fridge, etc. all worked well. Wifi was good for the most part. The layout was quite interesting - you enter into a washroom that connects to the bedroom, but the shower and toilet are separated. I liked the accents of red. Appreciated how the hot water came pretty quickly. Besides the train next to the hotel, it was pretty quiet. The location was convenient too! Only blocks away from Milenium Park and easy to get to. Staff were polite and friendly. The check-in process was quick. You have to tap your card to access the elevator. The Cerise rooftop bar had nice views!! It was popping on the weekend! We attended the Mariah Carey PopUp Bar at the virgin hotel. The tickets were $30, which got us a free holiday martini when we entered and a Santa hat. Horrible experience. There were people protesting the hotel early in the morning with drums and megaphone. And when I went to take the kids outside there was a 20foot tall inflatable rat that was part of the protest that scared my kids! We decided to visit Chicago for a week in November and found a great deal on this hotel. We don't normally stay in the Loop, but thought it would be fun and convenient, since it's so easy to hop on an L train to anywhere. We were planning to work half-days from the room, so we wanted somewhere comfortable, and where my wife and I could separate ourselves if we both had meetings at the same time. There is a sliding door between the entryway / bathroom / vanity area and the sleeping quarters, which blocked the sound well enough so one of us could sit at the vanity while the other person sat at the desk by the window. The room was super clean and nicely decorated, and we had all the amenities we could need or want. I was a little worried after reading some of the more critical reviews, but didn't have any problems with noise or anything else. Most importantly, the staff here truly stood out. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. We had a couple of things that "went wrong" while we were here, by no fault of the staff. When things went wrong outside of their control, the staff were extremely apologetic and provided resolutions well above anything we ever would have asked for. That is what excellent guest service is all about, and we can't wait to come back and stay again! read more

Before choosing to stay at this hotel you had better confirm that you are a deep sleeper who is not bothered by the 'L' train passing through every 5-7 minutes. I inquired about a room switch and was told mine was a 'quiet' room and there was not anything that could be done. Update: Would note that the trains pass through less frequently over the weekend, so would like to give back 1 star. Unfortunately I was routinely accosted/insulted in the elevator by several of Chicago's 'young scholars' riding up to the rooftop bar, making it impossible to recommend this hotel. read more

I had a 4-night stay since this was chosen as the hotel for our work trip. I would've chosen it for a personal vacation hotel for many reasons. The location is fantastic and near so many eateries I frequent. The subway is right around the corner and you can easily go on the blue line in a 40 minute+ $3 (50 cents added for a paper ticket) fee to the airport. The hotel was modern with many helpful touches of pourover coffees (didn't taste good), a hot kettle, full-size bodycare products, and even a TV with good cable options you could cast Youtube to. The gym was fine to use too for cardio and weights. The windows were huge and offered a great view. I did face the subway but got used to the noise. Try to get a room away from the subway. The hotel employees were all friendly and approachable. read more

It's not often that you see a hotel with good Yelp ratings - but my husband and I had truly an amazing experience here and I would definitely come back. We had a 5 day, 4 night stay Friday to Tuesday here last month, total cost was ~$800, but we booked through Amex Hotel Collection and used the $200 Amex platinum benefit, so total was $600. We also got a $100 experience credit through amex platinum that we were able to utilize at the associated restaurant (Miss Ricky's), room service delivery (pizza!), the mini bar, and the coffee shop without extra charges. We also got upgraded to a king suite! Pros - Very convenient location - right in the heart of Chicago, walking distance to multiple attractions including Millennium Park, Wrigley Building (if you're going for the Chicago River Architectural Tour!), Chicago Theater, the Art Museum. So even though the hotel is a little more "pricey," you save a lot on transportation. It's also walkable to a train station! - Dog friendly, but doesn't smell bad at all! Love seeing everyone's pups - Really fast room service in the late evening - we ordered a margherita pizza from our TV and it came up in less than 30 mins. - There's a doorbell outside of each room, and you can toggle if you want housekeeping. - Very easy to set room controls on the TV, including temperature and music. - Easy checkout through the TV - The elevators were always super fast, not a long wait - We didn't interact with many staff, but everyone was super efficient - I was OBSESSED with the layout of the king suite - everything was so minimalist, aesthetically pleasing, and functional. I loved that there was a TV in the entry area, and a TV in the bedroom that is collapsible back into the wall, and I loved that there was a jack and jill sink and clothing storage area. The rain shower with a shower head was so luxurious to use with good water pressure, and the toilet / bathroom area was spacious. - The king bed was super comfortable - I honestly felt safe the whole time. There was always personnel in the lobby and even if there were randoms standing outside the hotel when it was dark late at night, I always felt protected. Cons: - the mini bar and snacks available in the room are super expensive (we fell for the gummy bears, thankful for that amex plat credit) - No microwave in room (which made it hard to re-heat leftovers, and the fridge was so fully stocked already with the pre set alchol and drinks it's not alot of space. - The bathroom has no fan, so hopefully your poop doesn't stink too bad haha - the TV cable had some poor signal where it would freeze while we were watching, so we kept having to restart the TV which was annoying Overall, it was such a positive experience I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Chicago. I had never stayed at one of these, so I was a Virgin virgin. I must disclose that I did not pay for this room, so this review does not reflect price or value, but rather the excellent experience, mostly for location, cleanliness, and service. SERVICE. After walking around the humid city in July, I know Virgin has the biggest blast of air conditioning in the city, so it was always a nice welcome. The hotel staff was everything you wanted: friendly, attentive, professional, personable, helpful, good-humored, and present. LOCATION. The North Loop location is great, only 500 feet from the subway, and walking distance to many sites, so newbies shouldn't buy a multiple day subway pass because you may be walking or riding a bike, as the city is very bike-friendly. Mileage X 20 = minutes to walk. Check my reviews for Cultural Arts Center (0.3 mi), Cloud Gate (aka the Bean) at Millennium Park, the Riverwalk, and Chicago Athletic Club (0.4 mi), Mercadito Mexican restaurant and Art Institute of Chicago (0.5 mi), Relish Chicago Hot Dogs (0.6 mi), Lou Malnatti's Pizza (0.7 mi), Navy Pier (1.3 miles), Time Out in the hipster Fulton Market in West Loop (1.4 miles), plus Lincoln Park Zoo (2.5, perfect for bikes). If you don't want to eat at the on-site restaurant Miss Ricky's or Two-Zero-Three Coffee Bar (separate reviews), the block has many choices of fine dining and not-so-fine dining (Dunkin Donuts, Panda Express, Taco Bell). Now, I stayed in the Rockstar Suite known as "Richard's Flat", a spotless, modern, 750 square foot penthouse, with oversized windows in each room (remote controlled curtains and shades), a dual shower and sink, clawfoot bathtub, sectional seating, king bed, bar, and bookcase full of rock biographies, making a guy feel like Prince. Or Queen, I'm not judging. My only complaints, other than subway noise and a common lack of pool: 1. There is no place to sit in the non-existent lobby while waiting for your bags. 2. The rooftop bar Serice had poor service as weak drinks. 3. The shampoo and body wash don't lather, even though my wife says they are higher end. We went to Chicago for an overnight stay and picked this hotel bc it was dog friendly with no additional charges. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The room was nice, it had a gym, and it was a great location. However, customer service was hit or miss. When we pulled up there was a woman sitting who didn't greet us or even offer valet. We had to say something to her. Additionally, there was no bellman to help with bags so we were carrying multiple bags and a dog with no help. The young lady that check led us in while nice, shared no information about having a pet and offered us nothing it said they had for dogs online. At checkout there was a friendly doorman as well as a nice young lady who I believe was a hostess at the restaurant. I spoke to her while waiting for our car. The coffee shop employees were unfriendly and borderline rude. I'd stay here again if going to the city with my pet but I'd probably choose something else if not due to the poor service. read more

First of all, I will start by saying not quite as good as the Virgin Hotel in Nashville but what is. This one feels a little more like a NYC style hotel, but that's okay. Great location, great room. No lobby bar...wtf? They have a Italian restaurant down there which I was told was great but I have a hard time going to places without bar seats so you better be super good looking to get me there otherwise I'm just gonna trust the opinion of others that the food is good without trying it to confirm. Heard that the upstairs bar was great, which maybe it is in the summer, but honestly I felt like it was a weird vibe both during happy hour time and at night. We didn't even finish our drinks up there at night and just brought them down to the room. Luckily, there are a number of solid bars a block or two away so unless you recently suffered a ski accident or froze your legs by jumping in the lake you should be good. As for the room, it had a little dog outside of it so an absolutely perfect way to create a welcoming atmosphere when I brought a girl back the first night. Nothing says great hotel like a dog statue outside your door. The bathroom sink and mirror were great, so was the shower, which had a seat, but also excellent water pressure and felt like a nice rain pouring down from above in the Amazon jungle. I couldn't decide where I wanted to stay more: the bed or the shower. Bed perfectly sized and honestly soooo comfortable. I could have laid there all weekend (and probably should have). It's possible I may have ran thru the whiskey mini bottles, but the front desk replaced them for me at 3 AM so amen for that. read more

The Virgin Hotels Chicago might be my new favorite hotel in Chicago. Everything about the hotel is a win. 1st of all it's in the heart of the city & you can literally walk to wherever you need to go. When I say you can walk that is only for people that like a good walk. All the designer shops are about a mile walk & there are soooo many food options in the area. You will be able to find any and everything that you can think of. One of the cutest things about the hotel is they have little dog statues outside of the rooms. It's like they are sweet little guard dogs . Ok now to the rooms, awwww mannnnn!!! It's so many great things about the hotel room, but I'll start with the best thing THE MINI BAR obviously! It's nothing worse than wanting a drink at 5am but everything is closed. It comes with snacks as well like your m&ms, snickers bar, chips, etc. You are also given an umbrella which I learned later is 40 bucks so DON'T even THINK about trying to take it . One of the coolest things I've seen in the room is the wireless charger next to the bed. You just sit your phone on top of it and it charges, I was VERY impressed with this. The vanity mirror has a huge light surrounding it for all you Instagram legends that need perfect lighting. I absolutely LOVE the waterfall shower, I would have that in EVERY hotel if I could. It's also a sitdown shower for you freaks out there . Did I tell you how amazing the view is from the rooftop bar? The bar is on the 26th floor & as of August 16th you don't need a reservation like you did before. The drinks are good but nothing special, you are mainly here for the atmosphere & to mingle with everyone while looking over Chicago. First I wanna start by saying that I really wish that upon check in that they would tell you that the roof top was open and located on the 26th floor as well as that you needed to make reservations for the roof top as wwll as the dining room on the other stairwell . I didn't find out any of this until I was checking out which really upset me. Front desk: Andrew was nice as he was the only nice person other then the younger gentlemen who greeted me upon arrival. Everyone else had attitudes and when asked them questions they seemed bothered. Jeeshe The rooms are cozy, and clean however, id remove the rugs under the bed and have them shampooed as it was filthy!!! I loved my view, I liked that they allow you usage of an umbrella, yoga mat and use of toiletries that cost $50 a bottle if you take them. The smell was not something I was interested in but it was a great marketing tool. I left all bottles behind without a second thought of buying or taking them. I recommend staying here or at least in this location as this is the hot spot! I love the entrance to the rooms as it offers a great feng shui feeling. read more

I was booked a room at the Virgin Hotel for a multi-site meeting. Check in was easy and the front desk staff were great. Getting up to the room required you to hold your card against the keypad before being able to press your floor button, which is a nice bit of added security when you're in the heart of the city. I had a room on the 14th floor right off the elevators, which was convenient. Right away I will say that if you're a light sleeper, this may not be the hotel for you. The nearby train noise comes through almost all night long as the track curves near the hotel, which is the slowdown squeaky sound I kept hearing. Didn't bother me a ton but if you're not used to city noise you may struggle. The room was a great size for one person, seemingly clean and tidy. Where I'm left disappointed is the light things that have gone overlooked. First, wifi is poor, unless you login specifically to your room's wifi, information you only find when you intend to Chromecast a streaming service to the TV in your room. The wall socket near the side of the bed I chose to sleep on was loose; it was difficult to make full connection with the plug. The TV volume was also broken via both remote and the buttons on the TV itself. The table by the window has a rotating top, which could be useful if you could get it to stay in one position without risking major problems with a simple bump. Finally, a very small thing, but one of the lights on the side of the vanity mirror was out. It's the culmination of all these little things (though wifi isn't little, if you're traveling for business like I was) that leave me letdown by an establishment under the Virgin name. Fortunately my meeting took place in another building, but I know individuals attending my event that were staying the week for a subsequent event. Had I stayed longer, these things would have grown irksome for me. But for the short time I was there, I had a comfortable stay with no major hiccups. Our event group had a dinner hosted on the second floor, which was great. The balcony also has a great view of the skyline, though I don't envy those up floors as I'm sure they hear much of the goings-on being so close. Nearer the door was the "vanity" area, which had a wonderfully lit vanity for me to do my hair and makeup before hitting the town, and ample closet space which allowed us to unpack to a comfortable level for our one night stay. The shower and bathroom are both in this area as well, the whole portion of which can be closed off by two sliding doors. On the other side, we LOVED the modern design of the bed frame, offering a couch back to the headboard and a chair-like support at one corner on the foot of the bed. The entire room looked over a gorgeous city view. It was slightly unfortunate that valet parking was unavailable, but this was a small inconvenience considering still being granted the privilege to be pampered during a pandemic! We did not make use of the rooftop bar (this time!) but did enjoy a nightcap at the bar just around the corner. We can't wait to stay here again next chance we get to see what else this place has to offer! read more

Staff will treat you like shit. Absolute overpriced rip-off. I understand now why airbnb is putting them out of business. It doesnt matter how reasonable, steadfast or kind you are, they will gladly screw you over. They could be in economic trouble. Wouldnt be surprised if they start robbing possessions directly rather than just making fraudulent charges on your credit cards. Ive spent 12+ hours reasoning with customer service to make sure because I was in denial that they could be this cruel. The fanciness of this hotel is a thin facade. My partner and I had a staycation here before going back to work on the following week. We booked for a 2-night deal with the Illinois resident discount on their official website. The deal often times would come with a valet parking ($69 value, with an in-out privilege). However, it was good that I read the fine print and knew some days that package wasn't available as stated. I played my combination/permutation game and figured out the days that I could take advantage of the parking perk. As always, a hotel review has much to cover and it's crucial to make it easy for the writer and the readers. Here are the bullet points: 1) location - absolutely convenient to the main attractions: State Street shopping, Mag Miles sightseeing, and a plenty of public transportation options within walking distances - not too loud for a night sleep: had to wake up in the middle of night for fulfilling my lactation responsibilities, but didn't really hear much of noise from our room - use the curtains for the windows if you don't want some office workers to stare at you from afar 2) room tour and amenities - door partition (with the surveillance hole to peak out...slighly creepy) to the bathroom/vanity area and the bedroom - standing shower with a place to sit...pregnancy friendly I would say (harder to bend down when I was pregnant and thought about it) - vanity with a mirror (that was my lactation station and got space to work with) - disposable slippers (only 1 pair included) - bathrobe (only 1 set included) - quite comfy bed - a couple of lights didn't work but not a deal breaker - not enough USB charging stations (forgot to bring my full charger set and had to use the only USB port underneath the desk) - snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic available for fees (don't buy them...common sense...lol) - mini fridge - complementary coffee (LA Colombe) and tea (Taylor's); a small kettle available to make hot water - "Red Flowers" bath products: none of the body wash, shampoo, and conditioner really lather; brought my own because I had my preference - toliet, shower and sink are separate: a creepy large mirror on the toliet room door that would show the reflection of the bed at a certain angle...just FYI 3) hotel features - gym access for the room guests: equipment seemed clean and well-maintained; hot and cold water available (bring a water bottle for refills); clean towels offered - complementary cucumber/fruit water in the lobby: at a random time...but it was delicious! - "Cerise" Rooftop Bar: didn't go and heard that it had a decent review - "Miss Ricky" restaurant: looked posh but didn't patronize...always next time -"TwoZeroThree" Coffee Bar: like an ordinary coffeeshop with chairs; many non-hotel guests there working; entrance through inside the hotel I think "Virgin Hotels" Chicago still was over-priced even after applying the IL resident discount. I liked what I saw, but standard was met at a minimal level and nothing was memorable. I rendered a 4-star because it indeed was a solid choice for those who like to explore Chicago and the location can be where the money is at! Ok so I debated on one and three stars but I wrote this two nights after my incident so my fury would dissolve - so went with 3. I reserved this hotel in October - so mind you I did a lot of homework because I normally stay at the Viceroy when I travel to Chicago. I was planning a anniversary trip and decided to give Virgin Hotel a shot because the reviews were very good and it was in an excellent location. They have an app that you download which made it very easy for check-in and very easy for you to access anything you need from them. The front desk person Andrew was very pleasant very helpful. The room is very spacious, and it was very clean... or so I thought. Spent the whole day in the city enjoying Chicago and then after dinner when we get back to the hotel room around 10 o'clock - and exhausted because we were up at 3:30 in the morning - my husband and I get into bed and what do I discover... our duvet looks completely unacceptable and disgusting. I called the front desk I told them my situation and had them send me up a new duvet. I decided OK maybe I just happen to get a bad duvet, yeah no. The second duvet they bring me is just as bad as the first, if not worse. Now I'm really upset because not only am I tired but what the hell is going on with the duvets? I called downstairs again and tell them my situation and the gentleman decides to tell me that it is not filthy but that the feathers in this duvet are black, that this happens over time. I don't think so. I've had my duvets for probably over four or five years and they don't look like this. I have stayed at other multiple hotels and their duvets do not look like this. I told the gentleman at the front desk that I didn't want another duvet, that he was incorrect and that I just wanted two sheets and a quilt so I can get to bed because I was exhausted and my anniversary had just gone down hill. I waited 45 minutes and they never came up with anything that I requested. I fell asleep and had a terrible night sleep. The next morning I asked to speak to a manager and they tell me that he's in a meeting and that he's going to give me a call back. The manager not give me a call back instead he had somebody else give me a call who pretty much showed no empathy. I will not be staying here again nor recommending this hotel. When you're spending an amount of money a night the least you can do is make your guests stay comfortable after a bad experience, truly it was all about customer service in the end. The bad taste that was left in my mouth could have been completely avoided. I decided to give them a three for numerous reasons, first of all they're in a great location, second of all the front desk gentleman and housekeeping were very pleasant. They have a great little rooftop bar and coffee shop in the hotel. read more

UPDATE: We are being refunded our $560.23 after a complaint was filed. We booked a two night trip three months in advance. Today, five days before our trip my husband was diagnosed with Covid and we obviously had to cancel. I called this morning to cancel my trip and was told their policy is to charge a one night stay of $560.23!! I can not believe a company would implement a policy like this. $560.23 down the drain because of a sickness. I will never book with Virgin Hotels again! Be aware of this "Customer Friendly Policy" the company stands behind!!! read more
