I needed a new optometrist in the Irvine so I found this one and decided to give it a try. I was having a lot of eyestrain with headaches. The problem got specially bad because of all of my work and school activities being in front of a screen. I thought it was just lack of humidity, something that eye drops helped with but it can only do much. I told them about my concerns and they suggested that I take the neurolens test. They have the machine and it's essentially a bulky modified version of the machine that shows the hot air balloon/red barn. Turns out my eyes were straining so much because my line of sight is misaligned. I got the special lenses for my new glasses. They were hecka expensive but it was worth it. The first week was kinda weird, but about a month in, I noticed I wasn't complaining about eye strain anymore! read more

My 4 year old went to multiple vision specialists due to a condition. We wanted multiple opinions and Dr. Mai was recommended to us as our 4th doctor. He took the time to hear the results from our previous specialists visits. Then he ran his own tests and confirmed the diagnosis. Dr. Mai was very professional, honest, and works very well with kids. My 4 year old responded quickly to his questions, which is unusual. She's a very picky 4 year old and only speaks to adults she trusts. Not only are Dr. Mai and Dr. Lam incredibly knowledgeable in their expertise, they are very professional and run their office accordingly. Dr. Valerie Lam is absolutely lovely! Highly recommend. I came here recommended by another friend based mostly on how lovely Dr. Lam and Dr. Mai were and how adorable their new babies were. I was new to the area and took up that offer. Booking an appointment was incredibly easy, since you can do it all online! They'll text or email you to confirm. The fitting itself went smoothly. Everyone was extremely friendly and professional. Dr. Lam helped me with various degrees and accommodated easily for my astigmatism. She also has a really cool drawer full of sample glasses for testing and it's unlike anything I've seen at other doctor's offices. But really the highlight of my visits here happened several months after my fitting. I decided to try Warby Parker. I contacted the office and received my prescription online. Then, when I received the glasses, I realized that it didn't seem to work correctly. Initially, I thought something was wrong with my prescription. I brought in the glasses, and Dr. Lam talked me through why online glasses and contacts companies are not as good as getting fitted in person. She then showed me how the axes were all incorrect on the glasses and helped me write a note to fix this, all at no cost. Dr Mai is excellent with our kiddo (8 months). We brought him in for a baby screening, and Dr Mai was super kind and easy going. He checked for positioning of the eye, checked the optic nerve, and then checked if he was Near or far sighted. I would suggest to entering from Red Hill Ave instead of Airway Ave. Inside the office, you will find a huge open space. Everything looks fresh, new and modern with a wide selection of eye wear. You will certainly be impressed by the decor and feel of this modern practice. I especially enjoy the teal stools that matched Insight Vision Center's logo, it's these little details that gives you confidence the doctors are super diligent and thorough. Can you say SUPER POWERS?! This place is awesome. I walk into this clean, modern and beautiful office only to be met with a warm greeting from the staff. They even offered me a drink! Who does that at an office? The waiting room is great as it had a nice couch, a desk to work at, toys for kids, a TV and FREE WI-FI for guest! I had an exam with Dr. Lam (who is personable, warm and SUPER sweet) and mentioned to her that my prescription keeps climbing and I fear that it will only get worse as the years progress. She recommended orthokeratology (ortho-k) which are retainer lenses that you wear overnight and help retain your vision throughout the day so you don't have to wear contacts or glasses. She mentioned that the ortho-k lenses help to hold your prescription so that it does not climb every year. She was very thorough in her explanation and was patient with all the questions I had. I don't know about you but sometimes I get tired of wearing my glasses or my contact lenses dry out my eyes. After a meaningful, not-pushy, and delightful conversation with Dr. Lam I decided to pursue this endeavor of getting my vision BACK!! I go to the office to get my new contacts fitted and within a week the office calls me to pick them up. I pick them up and Dr. Lam patiently teaches me how to put the lenses into my eyes. I had trouble at first, but she really took the time to instruct me and kept encouraging me. So it's been a couple weeks and all I can say is I LOVE THEM!!!!!! I basically wear the contacts overnight and take them out in the morning and I can see the rest of the day without anything in or on my eyes! I feel like I have SUPERPOWERS and have been telling all my friends about it. In just a few weeks I'm going to Hawaii and will not have to worry about contacts or my vision in the water because of my new lenses. I hated going to the eye doctor as a kid, but my 6 and 7 year old LOVE going to the optometrist. The doctors and the entire staff are so friendly and welcoming the minute you walk in, extremely knowledgeable, and are excellent with children. Their new place is clean and bright, has a waiting room filled with toys, and the kids can "earn" dollars for prizes (and their rewards are much better than the physician and dentist offices, according to my kids). I came here just for a regular eye exam and to get new frames but wow was I impressed. The staff here is great, super friendly and very helpful. Everything here was very professional and the space is great! The design felt modern, everything looked very well kept up, and they had some nice music playing. Their waiting room even had toys for kids which is great to keep kids entertained while they are waiting. I was very excited during the pre-exam when I was told that they use a different machine instead of the puff test to check my eye pressure. Many other places would have to puff my eye multiple times to get the read but they managed to do each eye in one try and I didn't even feel a thing! Overall Dr. Lam and Dr. Mai have a great thing going here and I will definitely be coming back for any sort of vision questions or troubles that I may have. I originally chose this business because I was looking at purchasing a pair of Enchroma glasses. Upon arrival, everything was very sanitary and staff took appropriate precautions. All of the staff I interacted with were some of the most welcoming, personable people you could ask for. Not having much of a fashion sense, they were able to help me narrow down a frame that fit my face and looked great as well! It took awhile for my prescription Enchromas to come, due to a defect the optician found. I'm glad they took the extra time to get quality lenses that met their standard and the staff were communicative with updates throughout this process. Highly recommend this optometry. I came here about a year ago and got a vision check-up along with a year's supply of daily contact lenses. I used 30 day contact lenses for years until Dr. Chelsey Honma introduced me to the dailys. I had a bunch of questions and Dr. Honma was very patient and answered them all. I always thought dailys were bad for some reason and decided to make the switch and I love it. I have a very high prescription and so we had to order in my supply of contacts. Dr. Honma and the staff went out of their way to give me free samples of contacts lenses that weren't quite as high as my prescription but to hold me over until my lenses arrived. I also had my eyeglasses adjusted a bunch of times here and the staff were all really polite and helped me with whatever I needed. I also called one time to get a copy of my prescription and received an electronic copy within minutes. Will be definitely coming back when my supply of contact lenses run out. read more

Came here because my roommate at the time worked here, thought I'd check out the types of frames and styles they have here and the ones he'd recommend to me. This spot was a little hard to find at first, it's located in a plaza that you may have to circle a few times to get it right (the letters along the building walls help). Inside I received incredibly kind and attentive service. My roommate helped me distinguish the separate brands and styles, and the other staff was helpful in getting an appointment set up for my first exam with the doctor. When I met up for my appt with Dr. Mai, he was really chill and nice to getting me an updated prescription, and he even comped to check my optic nerve to see if anything was wrong just in case! He let me know if any issues arise, to keep coming through to see them and keep track of my eye strength. Overall really loved this spot, the service, and selection they have. read more

*** PROS *** Facility: Clean, orderly, modern. Frames: Not a large selection, but they have some very nice niche glasses (Salt glasses, which are handmade by a local company. They come in beautiful colors). New to Contacts: Staff is friendly and very patient with helping me learn/practice taking contacts in and out... They really made me feel comfortable with the learning curve. *** CONS *** Contact fitting: During my eye exam they asked if I also wanted help getting fitted for contacts. Some facilities include this at no cost (I wasn't aware places charged a separate price for this service)... And no money was mentioned BEFORE getting fitted. Miscommunication happened... But I was really sad to be hit with this expensive miscommunication at the end. I explained my confusion and told them I wish they had mentioned it (I should have triple checked). But my bill ended up being over $100 more with the fitting and after that I couldn't afford the glasses I needed... Which meant I didn't get the full benefit of even getting the exam in the first place. Asking for prescription: I called yesterday to get my prescription information... Which I was informed had expired. Which was totally fine... I hadn't noticed a big change in my vision, but I finally saved up enough money to go buy frames. When you buy frames, they ask for your prescription information so they know if your lenses will fit into the frames (since it's not a one size fits all). So, since I was purchasing the frames else where, I called to ask what my prescription was. "I can't tell you what it was because it expired. No one can fill the prescription." I explained my situation, and said I just needed the prescription so I could have a rough idea if these frames I liked could work or not for future prescriptions. I'd follow up for another eye exam later. I just wanted the numbers. The lady would not give me my prescription over the phone but she agreed to email it to me. HIPPA won't let them email it directly, which means hey had to send me an email link... Which took me to a website where I didn't have login information (username and password) to access it either. *** OVERALL *** I will NOT be returning to this business. I want a provider that sets me up for success... And I feel like between the miscommunication (which cost me extra money!) and having to pull teeth to get my prescription information (which I gave up trying to access after an hour of trying) this whole experience was basically POINTLESS. read more

I have to say I'm extremely happy with my care and Dr. Mai. I have amblyopia as well as other Vision impairments and Dr. Mai was fantastic in my assessment and treatment plan as he told me this is his specialty. He answered all my questions and was very thorough. The staff was fantastic and worked with me to find the right pair of frames. I had looked this doctor through yelp and google for a good doctor OC area. I made an appointment through their easy booking appointment website. When first arriving their staff is super friendly. Their staff welcomes you and takes down information that they need. The office looks so luxurious that I need to post on social media. Later when I was working with Jordan & Jaime I had a great time. These staff really cares about making you feel comfortable and relaxed. They have really high patience when working with patients and meet your requirements. Since it was 2-3 years ago that I visited an eye doctor I felt the need to get out ASAP due to horrible memories as a child. However, this is a different story. This office has the newest and coolest equipments ever!?!? So say good bye to those air puff machines and hello to these ones. While these staff guides me through the machines it doesn't feel awkward to be examined. It's makes you want feel to stay longer at the office. Dr. Mai is very helpful and generous.
