I've had four sets of glasses over the years done by them. Two Amazon Echo frames. They're not like the medic cameras with cameras in them. However I took them there and the cost was going to be different from the previous year and I was trying to figure out why. I had called them several times went in to find out what my glasses are going to cost and how I could have saved, but they ultimately got frustrated and told me that they don't want to do my classes. Even though I've had him done four times before. They weren't very nice from the first time I called, they were kind of unfriendly. So I am guessing this is more of that same customer service. If you have ANY issues with your glasses, don't expect that Dr. Shea will take care of you as a patient. I've spent 6 months fighting a lab issue with one of my lenses. Office said it was the lab who made an error. Turns out, it was a clerical error at the office when they submitted the prescription for the lenses. If you want to feel like a valued patient, and even more so when you have an issue to get resolved, stay far, far away from this business. I'm bummed to write this because I've been going to NuView for years but recently I had a a bunch string floaters AND a large blob appear suddenly in one eye and I asked for a emergency appt for Dr. Shea to look at my eyes. He got me in that day and after a few tests he declared the blob was a floater and not a retina detachment and gave me a small eye drop bottle and a $4 coupon for a full size. I was relieved then a few days later I thought I should get a second opinion and with the SAME blob in my eye ......wellllllll I'm now on my way to get SURGERY on my eye with the blob because I have a retina detachment!!!! I was shocked and upset when the ophthalmologist said I need the surgery IMMEDIATELY!!! Please go to an ophthalmologist for your eye exams. I will be!!!! read more

Yesterday, I went into NuView Optometric Center to get a year after surgery evaluation. The synthetic eye lense had not given me any trouble at all. I did not have to wait, Dr. Jack Shea invited me in right away. All of the instruments were positioned and ready for me to place my head. Warning: Stay away. Problematic conducts from the optometrist, Jack Shea. I brought my 6-YO daughter here for a vision check, and I deeply regret that decision. The optometrist, Jack Shea, placed his hands ON our DAUGHTER'S thighs during his conversations with her. He didn't just do it just once, but TWICE, within moments. So, I had to stop him in the act. Our daughter is only a child, but that does not excuse this type of behavior. If he cannot do that to a woman, he should not do that to a little girl, either. The above is the biggest issue, but there are also some miscellaneous, lesser issues. For example, when he asked our child questions, he did it with fast, intense energy and invaded her space, frequently bringing his face close to hers. This is very overwhelming to a child. Sometimes, our child could not understand his questions (or perhaps she was overwhelmed by his demeanor?). In those moments, when I, as her parent, helped clarify and/or answer those questions, he often ignored my response and talked over me by moving on to the next question. This type of behavior is unprofessional and irresponsible. As a medical professional treating a young child, it is his responsibility to also gather parental feedback. After the visit, my daughter was visibly upset from the visit and needed a lot of comforting and reassurance from my wife and me. I don't know what was on the optometrist's mind when he did those things, but one thing is for sure--those conducts were unacceptable, unprofessional, and unfit to use on anyone, especially children. read more

I switched insurance and was covered by this optometric center and I had a pleasant experience. Dr Shea is very thorough and knowledgeable. He used a new tool I've never seen before that measures IOP (pressure in eyes to rule out glaucoma) and it was so much better than the eye puffer and the contact instruments. Yea for Dr. Shea! I was able to get an appointment on the actual day that I called. Try that with your optometrist! My appointment was for 2 pm. I got there early to fill out the new patient form, and when I was done at 1:55 he was ready to see me. My eye exam was "quick and efficient", as other reviewers put it. It was also thorough and not rushed at all. Dr. Shea took a look at my reading glasses for a comparison to what my old prescription was. Because my vision hadn't changed significantly, it was just a judgment call for me as to whether or not I wanted to buy new glasses, and I felt no sales pressure. I have been going to a high priced ophthalmologist in Newport Beach for years and then came across this place as a referral from a trusted friend. They are awesome! No waiting like I did in the other place and their costs were unbelievably good. Dr. Shea is thorough and has excellent communication skills. I was in and out in 30 minutes. The only downside is you don't have a fancy office like in the other place, but their prices and excellent service. I highly recommend. read more

As I age and get "older," my vision has somewhat declined. Is used to have perfect vision most of my life. However, I found I needed reading glasses for smaller, fine print. My Optomotrist did a series of tests, with which he was very patient and professional. He finally recommended bifocals or transitional lenses, since I sometimes cannot read the freeway signs. I got a cool pair of clear Ray Ban glasses, which I'll add later. Although I'm still getting used to them, I still feel like my regular/generic 2.0 reading glasses work better for me than my prescription bifocals. When looking through the lenses, my right eye still seems blurry when I close my left one. I also get slight headaches when I wear them. I'm not sure if this makes sense or if it was a mistake, but I will be going in as soon as they lift the Covid-19 distancing lockdown. *Will update at a later time.... read more

Found the doctor on our insurance website and decided to give him a try. The doctor is very nice and professional and so is the staff. I have Arcus senilis And I was wondering if he would mention it and he did. If you don't know it's a sign of high cholesterol/early heart disease and I've had it at least 15 years and not a single doctor that I saw every year mentioned it. I was recommended to Dr. Shea by one of my friend, and i'm glad i took her advice. he's very professional and personable. funny and friendly. i have not been to the optometrist in over 6-7 years, and i didn't know what to expect. I was scared that my eye sight would be 10x worse than before since all i do is sit in front of a computer monitor all day long. Luckily that was not the case. :) Dr. Shea is one of those doctors who really goes the extra mile. He will tell you what's going on while he is running eye tests on you. He will explain the machines if you ask. As far as prices for the glasses, it ranges from 120ish to 400 bucks for the ultra fancy brand named glasses. Thank god for insurance, which brought my pair of ray bans down to about 25 bucks. They have a decent selection from choose from, but if you want choices, i'd suggest you go to a place in rowlands heights or arcadia. His receptionists are super helpful! They will answer questions regarding your vision insurance if you aren't too sure how much the deductibles and copays are. I highly recommend this place. read more

I do not recommend this place. If you are looking for just a normal eyeglasses prescription come here for the basics. But if you are looking for contacts fitting, go somewhere else. I wanted to save the extra $100 and come here because it was cheap but I ended up getting the wrong prescription for contacts from the doctor and had to waste the money on wrong contacts. He said that he doesn't remember what picture I showed him of my previous contacts and I did not want to argue. The doctor is very friendly and nice but doesn't really take the time to care for patients. Will definitely not be coming back. This is one of the worst experiences I've had with an optometrist so far. They are also very undersupplied with different contacts and will not make sure the contact you try on fits perfectly. read more

Lately, my vision didn't seem as good as usual so I booked an appointment with an eye center that got great reviews on Yelp, Nuview Optimetric Center. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and especially Dr. Shea. He was really nice and gave me a very thorough exam and told me with new glasses he could make my vision much better. After a nightmarish experience with Spectrum Optometry the year before, I was desperate to find a good, honest optometrist who would not rip me off. I dropped in randomly one day while in a neighboring shop to see if Nuview Optometry was contracted with my insurance and made an appointment on the spot. They didn't seem too busy, which was sort of disconcerting, but what the heck, I needed new frames. I walked in on the day of my appointment and was promptly greeted by the very enthusiastic and personable Dr. Shea who led me to the exam room. Awesome - no wait time! The exam was quick, easy, and accurate. While I selected my frames, he was very detailed and transparent about the exact amount/features that my insurance would cover and what my out-of-pocket costs would be. He advised me to maximize the benefits of my insurance (e.g., lens coatings, transition lenses, etc are all covered so I should get them) and even told me that it was not unusual for businesses to mark up frames by 300%. At least he's honest! Before I left, I knew exactly what I was getting and what I would be paying. This is how it should be, but perhaps my past negative experiences lowered the bar somewhat and eliminated any faith I had in the decency of optometry offices. Nonetheless, Dr. Shea sets the standard. His office never looked busy whenever I've passed by, probably because it's somewhat tucked away in a corner of a large strip mall and not too visible from street and not because the business is lacking in any way. I have been coming to this optometric center for 4 years now, I recently moved to south Orange County but decided to make the drive because in the past I have been able to have Ray-bans order and covered through my eye insurance. This year I had the worst experience. First, I called to make an appt, so 2 weeks later I had forgot to write down the time so I called the day before my appt to verify the time, the told me 1 pm so I showed up at 1 pm and then they told me when I got there that my appt. wasn't until 1:30pm even though I called the day before to confirm my appt. time (they did not seem to care about causing inconvenience). So we get our eyes check and then we ordered some Raybans since they don't usually have them in stock, and they told us that our insurance would cover the cost of the ones we ordered. So then 2 weeks later I still hadn't got a call saying that they were in so I called ok the morning on Thursday (the 2 week mark) to check in on the status, they said that they were not in yet and that they would call the manufacturer to see and then they would call me back. So I waited and waited.... 2 days later I still hadn't heard back from them so I called and they said oh yeah we were waiting on one pair but it just came in, so we could go look at them to decide which ones we wanted. So we went in this morning to pick which pair we wanted under the impression that at least the Erika Raybans that we ordered would be fully covered through our insurance (since that's what they told us 2 weeks ago when we ordered them) so I asked her what the price would be for each pair so I could decide which ones I wanted and the price went up $60-$70 for even the Erika pair, I let them know that that's not what they told us 2 weeks ago and that when we were ordering them the lady even showed us the cost on the website. The said no it is what it is and were very rude during this interaction. I will never go back to this place as one person says one thing and another person says another thing. Then I called to speak to the manager, and they wouldn't let me talk to him, and they just kept saying well we think it was a miscommunication. Well obviously it was a miscommunication on 4 different occasions, it doesn't take a genius to figure that out. But when your miscommunication affects someone ability to get eye glasses like planned and the staff here doesn't care about any of the inconvenience that's a problem. I'm a manager and provide customer service daily, so I am very understanding that things happen, but it is also the staffs job to make sure that accurate information is given or to make the accommodations needed due to the companies lack of accurate communication.. very disappointed and will never be back. read more
