This place is great. Super conveniently located on UTC for those affiliated with UCI. I was helped by a Persian optometrist ( I'm sos sorry forgot her name). She was kind and attentive to me. Relatively fast service and quality care. Thank you! read more

They're amazing let me start off with that I just happened to be in the area and the nose pads of my glasses had fallen off so I went in asking if they eyeglass repairs and if so how much it would be. They said they'd take a look at them so I assumed they'd see what they could do and tell me how much it'd cost to have them repaired what they did was hand them back to me about 20 min later literally perfectly repaired and when I asked how much they waved it off and said "no charge just glad we could help" I personally think stuff like this serves as testament to who they are in how they treat others and they could not have treated me nicer or been more magnanimous and kind and places like this deserve all the love and all the business. Safe to say if I ever need a new pair of glasses I'm coming here and believe you should too this place is special. read more

I came in for an eye exam and Dr. Catherine Huang was very rude and condescending. She made the entire visit very uncomfortable after I had let her know I just needed to receive a prescription. After the appointment, she practically threw the printed prescription at me and dismissed me. Both my fiancé and I were shocked at her attitude and behavior. I would not recommend anyone come here. read more

Extremely friendly and great customer service! I used to come here during undergrad, but had to switch optometrist due to my insurance. My experience was fantastic back then and wish i could go back! Recently dropped by because i was in the area and asked them to help my tighten my glasses. They did until it was to my liking free of charge! For some reason my current optometrist wouldn't do it for me and told me to do it myself...kind of makes no sense, since idk what I'm doing. I appreciate how friendly the staff was in helping me with this situation! I will definitely try and switch insurances to get back to this place. read more

Top notch service and care. Love the staff and my doc, Dr. Ghodsi. Always patient, detailed and friendly. I always feel well taken care of here and I appreciate it so much. Thank you team for letting me "see" everything so clearly in my day to day. read more

First time I called here the staff was absolutely wonderful. They confirmed our insurance and we set an appointment for a week later. When we arrived (they are next to Chipotle) the office was beautiful. They had a great selection of glasses and plenty of options. Check in was easy and seen right away. With a thorough exam the optometrist came out for a consult as I was there for my son. The whole experience was seamless and the staff was professional. This was a terrific experience and we now have a favored Optometrist! Thank you read more

I have been visiting this center since 2014. Excellent selection of glasses and contact lenses, with decent optometrists who really care about their patients. I had a wonderful time chatting with the optometrist who recently took over this practice about the most appropriate prescriptions and devices for efficient contact lens cleaning. However, the front desk service was a little bit disappointing since they almost handed me the wrong rebate form, having claimed it would work and then getting corrected by a coworker. I had two prescriptions for two frames I brought in, and the lens prescriptions were reversed on them. The optometrists here are great and very friendly. But front desk and sales staff need better training to deliver customer satisfaction. read more

I've been going here for over ten years. Dr. Ghodsi is amazing and goes above and beyond to make sure my lenses are right the first time. The staff are super friendly and the office is always clean. They have a good selection of frames and they take the time to help me pick out the best option that both looks good and feels comfortable on my face. My kids also see Dr. Ghodsi to get their glasses. read more

Super efficient, professional, and pleasant from the time you call to schedule an appointment until you're done. Loved the place. Receptionist and doctor were all super friendly. I'm a person with high anxiety levels, but I felt so at ease and relaxed. read more

I'm an Ophthalmologist and the optometrists here do a great job. I see a lot of patients who got glasses from here and they are very happy. More importantly they have caught some very dangerous pathology and by referring the patients to me quickly they saved the patients vision. read more

As a student with Medi-cal, I've seen my fair share of lackluster medical professionals, so I was very pleasantly surprised by University Optometric Center. My eye exam was pretty quick. I told Uni Optometric Center I wanted contacts and they advised I'd have to pay out of pocket ($90-$110). The advance notice was helpful, but what was even better was after they did my initial exam and determined if I wanted contacts it would be best to wear contacts for distance vision and glasses to read (to avoid damaging my close-up vision), they didn't do the contact lens exam since it wouldn't make sense unless I wanted to get both contacts and glasses. The woman managing the front area was also really nice and helpful. She adjusted my current glasses for free, and told me the Center has some frames that they offer at $50 for the frames and lenses. They aren't the most stylish looking things, but for students on a budget, it's nice to have that option! read more

This was the first optometrist I went to after moving to Irvine in 2019. They were close, and I figured I'd save some time/money by walking there. The service was a no-go from the start. 1. I was kept waiting for an hour, and 2. They misread my insurance, so I was charged for glasses, even though it's covered by my insurance. (One of the few benefits of working for the government!) But what I haven't been able to forget was the fact that the optometrist I saw in the fall of 2019, ended up trying to diagnose me with age-related macular degeneration in my left eye. I don't fit the traditional criteria; I was 34 at the age of my appointment. When I challenged the diagnosis, she admitted she "could be wrong" and the scan might have been bad, but she wanted to flag it, just in case. Of course, I freaked the hell out. Since that appointment, I've gone to two other optometrists and one specialist, trying to verify the veracity of her possible diagnosis. Every professional I've seen has told me that I don't have age-related macular degeneration. I have some other issues, but this isn't one of them. I haven't gone back since. The office tried calling me the other day and asking if I wanted to schedule an appointment. It's a hell no from me. read more

They accept GSHIP here for some good deals (I think it's $120 off frames...?). Anyway, I came here for a regular eye appt and got Dr. Fisher. This place is pretty thorough with the pre-appt screening and the staff seems to know what they're doing. Dr. Fisher is amazing though. He's not as energetic as the rest of the staff, but he sure knows his stuff. Thorough testing and scans showed that my vision hasn't changed in three years....LASIK? Who knows - but I got a referral. The only slight downside is the range of frames available. This is my fourth optometry center and I found the selection quite smaller than what I'm used to. Other than that, I'll be happy to go back! read more

I set up an appointment a couple of weeks ago with a friendly receptionist. The appointment itself was great. Dr. Ghodsi has a good bedside manner and the other people on staff are also very friendly. She answered all my questions, was thorough in her explanation of things to me, all my tests were quick and easy, and I walked out in an hour with brand new contact lenses for the first time. Sometimes the front desk doesn't have someone there so you might have to wait to be helped though (apparently they are a little understaffed right now), or maybe your phone call might not get picked up, but they make up for it by being very nice at least. They do accept UCSHIP. I did a full eye exam for contacts, plus retinal imaging (about $39?), a visual field test, got contacts and a couple of bottles of contact solution and I think I paid about $100 at the end of it. read more

doctor is patient；every one working there are so nice. also uci student get a lot discount

BEWARE UCSHIP AND GSHIP insurance holders! For people with the UCI insurance, come here ONLY if you want to get treated like the student that you are. Dr. Ghodsi messed up my prescription because she could not pull up my record from the previous year. I have been coming to this place since I started law school. I am a third year graduating student now. When I came for my eye exam this year, Dr. Ghodsi insisted I came here two years ago and not the previous year. When I got home, I found the prescription I had from the previous year, and I had to call the Optometric Center to correct the prescription they gave me. Totally saved you from a negligence claim there by calling myself to tell you that you messed up my prescription! Dr. Ghodsi gave me a prescription power lower than my current prescription because she was basing it on my prescription from two years ago. I was originally going to exchange my extra contact lenses from last year for a 30 pair of dailies. But the Optometric Center called me to apologize for the mistake and told me that they would be compensating me with "more" boxes of dailies instead. Silly me thought this meant that they would give me 30 trial pair of dailies for free! They originally gave me four boxes of trial pair lenses with the wrong prescription. So I came back to pick up "more" boxes of the dailies I was supposed to get. I returned the 4 boxes of dailies with the wrong prescription, and she gave me 6 boxes of the dailies with the right prescription. Wow thanks for those 2 free extra boxes doc! By the way, it took coming back here twice to get 6 boxes in total where 4 of the boxes are the ones I was supposed to get in the first place on my first visit. Needless to say, it is sad that the business I gave to this place and the potential business I can give because I will be practicing in OC next year, equates to 2 extra trial pair boxes of dailies!! read more

Super fast contact lenses appointment. With the UCSHIP insurance it came out to be $65. The appointment was about 35-45 mins or so since I went during my lunch break. What's super cool about this place was that I was considering getting colored contacts. So the doctor went over what colors might look nice on me and she gave me all the colors to try. Not only did she give me all the colors to try but she gave me samples for both eyes. For other places. They only gave one eye which is kinda hard to tell since you really want to make sure they look good before you invest in it. Overall very easy appointment. Everyone on staff knows what they are doing. Would go again. Super convenient location for uci students who don't have a car. read more

Amazing! With UCSHIP/GSHIP you'll get a great deal on contacts and glasses! Staff and doctors are extremely helpful and professional. read more

Dr. O was very helpful and I would recommend him and any other doctors there. They are thorough and thoughtful and will actually have a conversation with you regarding your eyes' health and answer any questions you have. 5-STARS The service from the student staff though could use a lot of improvement. They are slow, not well trained, and need to practice more professionalism. It's not that hard to read an insurance report, but they don't seem to know what they're doing. I recommend getting them better trained. If they are to become educated and prepared for professional work, it should start with their job now. 2-STARS While doctors provide professional and high level of service, the overall experience is affected by their staff. Staff are the ones who takes up most of your time with purchases, insurance, and appointments, so it really dampens the experience when they don't know what they're doing. Will I be coming back? Probably, since I really like the doctors and have been going here for two years now. But train these staff better, and this place would be 5 stars! read more

Don't let some of these reviews fool you. GREAT service with receptionists and GREAT doctor! GREAT deal with UCSHIP insurance. Eye & Contact Exam with doctor: very simple and informative. I'm not sure what the doctor's name was (whoops), but he was very professional and thorough. He gave my contacts that suit my eyes and tested my eyes with those contacts (fitting). Also gave me a weeks worth of contacts to trial! Receptionists: They paid attention to me as soon as I was finished. Very kind and informative. When I came back to order the contacts, they sat me down and explained the entire process and benefits. LOVED it here. Way better than other places I have gone to. Kind staff and doctor! read more

Ok, don't get me wrong, I'm surprised too. I called this place today Jan 31,2022 and the guy on the phone was very nice and he checked my medical insurance and told me that I'm covered. I told him that my glasses broke today and i have a big exam coming up in 4 weeks so i just wanna replace the lenses since the frame is still ok. He told me to come in anytime i want before closing. I went in with my sister and oh my god, i was not expected the rude and disrespectful behavior. First of all there wasn't any guy there so I assumed his shift was over. There were two women, one was a young girl who seemed to be a new hire and the other was an older woman with glasses who was loudly talking on the phone. The young girl took our info and showed us the frames that were covered by medical. The frames were really cheap frames something close to what you can get at the dollar store, but I understand since medical is not a really good insurance I wasn't expecting Gucci frames, just a normal ok frame which didn't exist. When i asked the young girl if i can just use my own frame, the older woman jumped into my conversation and with a very rude attitude told me that if i use my old frame they take no responsibility and also since I'm using medical it will take 4-7 weeks for them to get ready. I have never been in a situation were someone this loudly disrespected me and talk to me in a tone that since I don't have a fancy insurance I don't deserve to be there or get service. I am so sad from my experience that i am telling you should take your business somewhere else. this type of people have no respect for you and they only care about your bank account. I hope someone from there HR read my review and do something about their situation. As a side note, I'm not poor i can afford a 1000 dollar glasses if i want to but since my glasses got broken accidentally today i just wanted a cheap fix so i can go get brand new frame and lenses after my exam. read more

Found this place randomly and had my annual eye exam here with Dr. Kawai. Staff are very friendly and the office is very clean. Did a few test and had them take photos of the inside of my eyes. Slow, unhelpful, didn't deliver the service they assured, only found out upon request.

Dr. Ghodsi and the supportive staff are quick, personable and, most importantly, correct regarding my insurance coverage and any other information regarding my family's health. Found out I'm blind thanks to the great doctor and service. Definitely recommend checking in.

UCI students really lucked out with this one (they take GSHIP). I've been seeing Dr. Ghodsi for many years now and have recommended her to others. She is kind and professional and cares about your eye problems! She's helped me with issues such as poor contact fit (my eyes would get blurry, but not with the new size she changed me to) and dry eyes (she gave me samples of this fantastic gel). Everyone else is in this office is also attentive and competent. I've never been pushed to get unnecessary procedures or to buy extra contacts or glasses. They make it really easy to make an appointment and pick up your contacts, etc. Definitely recommend! read more

Don't be fooled by the reviews: this place has changed its name recently, so you're not seeing the whole picture. They used to be called Insight Optometric Center. Red Flag #1: Why are they always changing their name? Let's get one thing straight first of all: this place has no affiliation whatsoever with UC Irvine. It calls itself "University Optometric Center" because it's trying to capitalize on the student market. It's true that they used to be in the Student Health Center at UCI, where they called themselves the "UCI Eye Clinic." But even then, the name was false advertising, since they were only a private company that UCI subcontracted (no different from Wendy's in the Student Center, for example). They don't have any special credentials or any professional ties to the university's medical center. Red Flag #2: Why were they kicked out of the student health center in the first place? And why are they so desperate to pretend like they have some association with UC Irvine when they don't? These people played a key role in injuring my eyes. They referred me to a Lasik company in the area, pocketed a kickback for the referral, never told me they were getting a kickback for referring me to the Lasik company, and then called the Lasik surgeon the day before the surgery to tell them that they had concerns about whether or not I was a good candidate for the surgery. Funny thing was: they didn't call me to tell me about their concerns, so I had the surgery done anyway. After I had the surgery done and came to them with concerns (my eyes hurt like hell everyday), the head optometrist here, Dr. Joseph Occhipinti, told me that I should get an MRI and that I might have a brain tumor. Seriously! I don't use this term lightly, but I think the man is evil. Others have had problems with him too. I quote from this company's old Yelp page: "Dr. Joseph Occhipinti, that guy is retarded." Another reviewer hit the nail on the head: "Not a honest business. Stay away!" Occasionally, I run into people who have had the misfortune of going to this place. And they always tell me about this or that new thing that the doctors here told them that they supposedly need: prescription sunglasses, reading glasses, etc. And then I tell them my story, and they realize that they've been conned. The sad truth is, this isn't an honest business, and these people just want your insurance money. They'll do whatever they can to sell glasses to you, even if you don't need them. I really hope that someday this place goes out of business, and these sad excuses for doctors will no longer have a chance to prey on the students of UC Irvine. They've already been taken out of the Student Health Center. I hope they'll be gone from the University Center sometime soon. I also hope that the public will be properly informed about the risks of Lasik surgery, so that fewer eyes will be injured. If you're considering Lasik surgery, visit the anti-Lasik websites online and take the people's stories there seriously. We're telling the truth, which is more than people like Dr. Occhipinti can say. read more

Am a surgeon. Need my eyes to be in perfect shape for work. Many doctor colleagues ask me why I go to an OD over an MD. It's because Dr. Ghodsi is extremely good and extremely thorough. She has helped me over the years pick the exact contact lens that is the most comfortable for my eye based on water content and allergies. She always does an extremely thorough exam, testing everything from my lens curvature to pressures. If I feel unsure of the answers to the "is number 1 clearer or is number 2 clearer" questions, she doesn't get impatient and she repeats the exam until both she and I are sure of the results and feel comfortable. She is personable and professional. She explains her thought process for the prescription she's giving and if you're in between strengths, she explains the pros and cons of going with one over the other. She does most of the exam herself instead of handing me off to a student (not that students are bad, we all have to learn somehow). She answers all my questions about eye preventive health, has told me what to look out for at each age, and shows me my images and explains what findings she sees. She doesn't make you get additional imaging at an additional charge unless she feels it's medically needed. She gave me samples to get me through because I was running out and my prescription had expired. And took time to print out prescriptions for all the possible products I was interested in, so that I wouldn't have to come back for a second visit to get a new rx printed. Just a total class act. This is the way medicine should be practiced always. Def go to her, you won't be disappointed. The office is always clean and the students who work there are great and give correct info. They take VSP if that applies to you. Their cash prices are super competitive too and they give UCI alumni discounts. read more

I have been going here for several years and I can tell you that most of them are not students.
