A tiny little restaurant located in the heart of downtown Chattanooga, Innside offers a trip back in time. The decor is run down but it only adds to the charm. We were in town and tried Innside for breakfast. The food was just what we were looking for. Think old time diner feel and simple menu. But it was good. My husband and I got the 2 eggs and bacon with the gravy and biscuit as our sides. They do the gravy and biscuit just like you would imagine if you ordered biscuit and gravy as a dish. So if you want them separate you should ask but this is just how we wanted it so it was perfect for us! We also got hashbrowns on the side as well. My husband got a side of a pancake (he was hungry) but the portions were so big he definitely didn't need that pancake! The service was amazing. There were a lot of regulars that came in while we were there and the staff /Owner were friendly to everyone! You know when there are regulars that keep coming back this place is great! Our server was super friendly and attentive! If we are ever back in chattanooga we will definitely come back here for breakfast! If you are looking for a nice simple neighborhood feel diner this is the place to go. If you want a fancy breakfast this isn't your place but you will sure be missing out on some good old like you grandma used to make breakfast. 10/10 for us. A great find of good, home cooked food! Yummy and the prices were great! It is really a small town mom and pop style restaurant in the down town area. The waitstaff were friendly and took time to share a laugh. There are several sandwiches, included a fried bologna (which a friend said was good), burgers and three different grilled cheese sandwiches. (The breakfast menu looked great.) They build the deluxe grilled cheese with mayo, tomato, lettuce and ham. Wow! it was great, and better than I make at home while still being in the same style. Coleslaw is made fresh, and it shows in its great flavor. Across the table, my friend ordered the beef vegetable soup and corn bread. Based on what he said and what I observed, both were fantastic. This is were the locals know to go !! Quaint, unpretentious and welcoming. Like Breakfast at Grandma's House. The staff are very friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was excellent and portions were LARGE, again JUST LIKE Grandma's house. OHH I can't forget the coffee mugs, if you like to drink more than a couple of sips per cup, they have you covered. This is one of those places that you keep meaning to try but never get around to. The Innside is a Chattanooga institution well known to downtown workers for longer than many Yelpers, myself included, have been alive. As someone who doesn't work close by, I was under the impression that they were always closed when I would be able to go there. I was pleasantly surprised to find they are now open until 7:00pm. A friend and I surveyed the menu which is filled with classic diner fair and both decided on burgers. These aren't gourmet burgers, but instead exactly the huge, classic bun, hand formed patty that you'd expect from a diner. They were wonderful! The Innside reminds me of yesteryear and the type of place your grandfather would have read the paper while enjoying his morning cup of coffee. What's different from back then is that the daily specials are also posted on Facebook instead of just a board on the wall. The staff was friendly and attentive while their service was quick. If you're looking for classic diner food in Chattanooga, this; not that other place; is the spot to go. read more

"I'm the kind of guy who'd walk into a greasy spoon and wonder -- Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of grave fries?" -- Demolition Man (1993) Yet another business meal, and who knew this is where we were going in downtown Chattanooga when we left the office in our business attire? My client brought me here after asking if I was okay with grease for lunch. That certainly set the right tone. We walked in and I immediately looked around for Flo and Alice...and up walked an Alice look-alike. The specials were written up on a whiteboard and the paper menus were int he middle of the table. I asked my client what was good and he said "they make a great burger." So when in Rome... I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger all the way (no onions) and tots. Luckily all the way does NOT include ketchup (they have that on the table). The burger came and was bigger than expected, already sliced in half (helpful since I was in nice business clothes) and on a giant sesame seed bun. Now oddly enough, I'm going to talk about the tomato more than anything. This was the ripest, juiciest tomato I have had ALL summer. It could have been sliced as a salad with some mayo and pepper and been perfect. OR served on some white bread. No joke. The burger was quite good for a diner - clearly cooked on the flattop, it had the sear and a little char, and clearly flavored with only salt and pepper. It was juice (so not overcooked) and I could really taste the beef. It was a burger I would eat again. The tots were over fried, so they were really crunchy/crispy, so I could not eat them all and had to use ketchup (which I don't use much). Over all it was pretty decent. It was a bit much for a Friday lunch and it made me sleepy in the afternoon, but it was someplace I would visit again. read more

Not knowing that their restaurant closes at 2:30 since the website says 4 o clock, I placed a Togo order around 2:10. When I went to go pick up my order right at 2:30 the door was locked and I continued to wave my hands in front of the window and nobody wanted to come to the door and help me out. This place is great! Looks like a cute little diner and you really get the best bang for your buck here. My co-workers and I came here for breakfast one morning and I got the two eggs breakfast with bacon, also came with a choice of bread (biscuit, white or wheat) and either grits or gravy. I got scrambled eggs which were good and the bacon was wonderful - they cook it in the oven so the fat melts in your mouth instead of being chewy. I wasn't too impressed with the grits though. I'm looking forward to having lunch here sometime...I have heard that the tots are amazing and any place that has good tots is great in my book. read more

Feels like I walked in to a 1980s diner. Hasn't been updated in decades. BUT it's clean and offers good tasting "standard fare" so it get 5 stars for being good at what they do. Don't stop in if you are looking for a kale salad omelette but otherwise stop by and get some stick to your ribs morning fare. Solid. read more

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Awesome home town feel in downtown Chattanooga. My server, "Squishy" was absolutely wonderful, like eating at my sisters house. I've said for 20 years that great gravy died when my Mamaw died until I ordered it here. The only downside is I won't be able to eat their biscuits and gravy daily for obvious health reasons. This restaurant is a slice of pure Americana. Great service and excellent omelettes. I have breakfast at the Innside once per week and the food is always hot and fresh. We were walking by and stopped in for breakfast. Unfortunately we were too late- They stopped serving breakfast at 10:30AM so my wife made me stay for lunch.... I ordered the deluxe grilled cheese & ham sandwich and my wife had a BLT. The food was delicious, you could taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Coffee was also tasty and smooth. I was very happy to find this place. It's a diner with an authentic vintage setting; I say that because it's probably actually old and not just decorated to look that way. That doesn't mean it is shabby, just projects an established look as if it has been there a while. The food meets and exceeds expectations for a diner, and portions are generous while still priced reasonably. The clientele is mixed, it has a local feel to it including some blue collar and white collar folks from nearby offices. It's unpretentious and service is pleasant. read more

This place hasn't been updated since the 70's, but the food is worth a visit, if you can overlook it. It is a "local" place that serves breakfast and lunch. It has a full breakfast menu and people seem to love the gravy and biscuits. Personally, I like their sausage egg biscuit. Their real strength is the lunch menu. They have a "Daily Special" written up on a board and their regular menu(which also hasn't been updated). Their burgers are good(please order it well done for safety), their tater tots are delicious, fries are decent. The turkey club sandwich is decent, but nothing to brag about. One interesting thing, they offer Apple Sauce as a side item! If you are looking for a greasy burger fix around the convention center, Innside is your place, if not, walk across the street to Figgy's and have a delicious sandwich or hotdog. read more

Oh yeah, love this place for lunch! I previously worked at the other end of Chestnut and never walked down this far so I never knew it was there. I work on the MLK end now and was out for a walk and came across this place. My first time there, it was close. Little did I know that it closes at 2pm! Next time I took an earlier lunch break and stopped in. A nice throwback diners feel. I like the cozy layout of the place and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Great menu choices. The first time I had the chicken platter and the next had the hamburger steak. Those come with two sides and rolls/corn bread. Add a drink and you're at $10. Can't beat that and it's very tasty too!. It's closed on weekends from what I saw but if you're in town for lunch during the week before 2pm, it's a must to check out. I think you'll like it! read more

We stumbled upon this jewel of a breakfast place as we were leaving from our overnight stay at The Read House, a historical hotel, that is connected to it (through the back door)! I ordered the $6 and some change breakfast: grits, country ham, 2 eggs and a biscuit. Oh my goodness! The ham came out cooked perfectly and on its own plate because it was so large! It was all crazy good as was my husband's bacon biscuits. And what a deal! Every other breakfast in the area was more expensive. This was my first time at the Innside Restaurant. My family and I were staying at a hotel that was within walking distance. My husband ordered breakfast each morning and walked over and picked up our order. Not only were the prices reasonable, the food was delicious! Everything was hot & tasted fresh. We ordered grits, raisin & spice oatmeal, pancakes, hashbrowns, wheat toast, bacon, sausage & eggs. Of course, we ordered all these items on different days.
