Visited twice in the same week--once with a group of five (ages 22-58), once with just my wife. Breakfast both times. Was a hit with all ages. My wife has a gluten and dairy allergy, and I've got a tree nut allergy, Alpha-Gal, plus a diabetes kicker. We're usually a solid test for any kitchen. Both visits, the staff passed. Knowledgeable, showed genuine concern, and were able to make accommodations without a lot of back-and-forth. Good selection on the menu meant we weren't working from a short list of options either. Food was good across both visits--consistent, which matters as much as a single great meal. My son particularly liked the Brunch Sausage Burger. Looked good, and seemed entirely appropriate after a late night. Large space, tables well spread out, and located not far from downtown. I have been to the Nashville Frothy Monkey years ago but I really enjoyed this one in Chattanooga. I had the maple chicken salad with a side of bacon and it was delicious. Chicken salad was not overpowering in mayonnaise. It was sweet and had enough flavor. I liked that they paired it with mutigrain bread and chips and salsa. I enjoyed my golden milk latte also. Came here for an early brunch and have been meaning to get here for a while. Located in the famous Chattanooga Choo Choo "terminal" Frothy Monkey is a HUGE "cafe" that serves amazing coffee and really great food! Our party ordered breakfast fare and our coffee drinks were fantastic! I have ordered dirty chai lattes all over the country and mine from here was one of the best! Perfectly spiced and delicious! Our server was super nice but a little quiet. Not a big deal. The only reason for 4 stars was my meal. I got the Lox Bagel Sandwich. It was fine, but the bagel itself was rather dialed in. It actually tasted like it was kept in the fridge. It was kind of toasted but I was not fresh and dense. Everything else tasted great but it was a little heavy on the dill. I also ordered a side of bacon and a side of grits. Both perfect! Everyone else's food was a hit! The coffee drinks were the stars of the show. Definitely try this place!! I honestly didn't know what to expect, I opted for one of the seasonal drinks which was the Iced Log Cabin, it was on the sweet side but pretty good and the service was amazing. I went two mornings in a row. The two visits could not have been more different. The first server was a pro, a delight, while the second morning, the crew was different and really awful, even rude. I ordered the same thing both mornings, and while the food was extremely consistent and nicely presented, ordering coffee that second day was a struggle. It was like the two young ragamuffin servers (who seemed to be switching off) disliked the job. Ugh. read more

Visited here not too long ago when we were in Chattanooga for a few days. It was near where we were staying, so we had breakfast here twice. We wanted something quick and simple before the events we had those mornings, so this was especially nice because it was within walking distance. In a really cool old train station GREAT vibe, Young folks on staff from the front door to inside the restaurant nice big open area with a lot of ambiance. So I went over there to get soup and salad but I found out they serve breakfast until 5:00 p.m. woohoo!!! So the hot sauce that I asked for as a side tonight wonderful omelette is kick butt awesome the guy who waited on me said they use some of their cold brew to make it it's a local hot sauce it's gritty and it's great back to the omelette wonderfully made with fresh eggs from Kentucky and local bacon very yummy and a side of fabulous sourdough bread. My wife and I ate breakfast at the Frothy Monkey while staying at a nearby hotel. It's in the old Chattanooga train station so the vibe is very historic with exposed brick for character. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated. Their menu isn't huge but they do have a variety of options; I went for a standard eggs, bacon, and toast breakfast and shared a biscuit flight with my wife, which was excellent (the variety of butters was a nice touch). The restaurant was busy and I think they were short a server or two as it took 20+ minutes to get my cup of drip coffee; thankfully it wasn't my first cup of the day and they did volunteer to comp it. The food also took a while but it was all very good (including the coffee) so worth the wait. If you're looking for a good breakfast option in the area give Frothy Monkey a try if you're not in a rush. read more

I always through frothy monkey was mostly coffee and since I don't drink coffee, had never gone there. Surprise! It has food too, who knew? While it was just your average brunch time place with typical options, it was pretty good. I will say the portions for what I got were quite small, but pretty tasty. It's a quick walk from the Hotel Chalet where we stayed while visiting Chattanooga. It is massive inside, but they make good use of space. Despite being so spacious & open it's quite inviting & cozy. It's an all day cafe and they seem to have an interesting, delicious variety of coffee & teas. I ordered the blue velvet which looks funky but was refreshing & tasty. It's a mixture of matcha tonic and blueberry mint & not overly sweet. I would have loved to order a latte but we were fueling up for a hike & I didn't want nature calling in too early in the hike. I had the Gail salad which was light & yummy but filling as well. OUr server said the 1/2 salad was a fairly big size, she wasn't kidding. I'm glad I listened to her. They offer an array of pastries, coffee & entrees. Restrooms are clean & stylish & located in the old metro train station. Excellent. Sometimes you find a place that fits, perfectly. We had amazing service and were just enjoying the surrounding Choo Choo train station. Tried one of their signature coffees, Monkey Mocha iced, which I was concerned about too much banana flavor but I was pleasantly surprised as it was just a perfect mix of mocha and banana. Then unfortunately they didnt have pasta but they were kind enough to make the Pesto chicken dish with gnocchi. If they're willing to do this substitute for you, do it!!!! First of all, you can't go wrong with ambience of a coffee shop in an old train station. This place looked so cool. The servers got us to a seat very quickly. They were all super super nice!! We did not eat here but the menu looked great. We did have coffee and that was awesome. I had the Golden Monkey Latte. I wasn't really sure about the turmeric on there but I really loved it. I was so impressed with the food here. And it was over a relatively standard simple dish, the Farm Breakfast -- you know, the eggs "any style" with choices sides. I wasn't too sure where to stand when I entered off the patio side on this lovely early afternoon, but when I figured out where the hosting station was, I was welcomed and seated in a spot I would have chosen for myself. Sometimes people sit single dudes in odd spots because maybe they don't think we care about kitchen doors and dark corners, but I had a really nice table where I could soak up the retro revamped vibe. I doubled the eggs order to four and chose the bacon and added a side of stewed black beans (so glad I did). First, I started with a glass of Beaujolais, which was quite nice. When the food arrived, the first thing that struck me was that I got cold butter in its own nice tin. I can't tell you how uncommon this is, even in finer dining. Usually, you get olive oil instead of butter, and if you ask for butter, it's in one of those wrappers. This was the real thing, not whipped, and I didn't have to ask specially for it. The eggs were delicate and seasoned beautifully, and the bacon was hearty and high-end and crispy. The grits are unbelievable, and the stewed beans are homemade and subtle, smooth as butter. I was amazed; the sides were really at the forefront. The kitchen isn't fast, so don't be in a hurry when you're here. Even the glass of wine took a few, and it was not busy. But it's also a nice place to relax and soak up the ambience, either indoors or out. And I appreciated that the food was so well made that I didn't mind the wait. Hats off to Stafford, who was my server. She checked up on me frequently. She was efficient and personable. They are lucky to have her! I had a beautifully crafted cortado espresso at the end, served traditionally with the fizzy water on the side. This is my favorite espresso as it is a strong pour but has just a bit of hot milk at the top to cut the acidity. It was excellent. Frankly, I was impressed they even knew what it was, so if you're just getting coffee, they'll also be the right place. I obviously recommend this place for its food, ambience, service. The drinks are truly remarkable. One staff member seemed to be carrying the entire restaurant's service. After 50 minutes, I asked if we should be picking up our own food. The person at the counter responded, "When it's ready, we'll bring it to you," as if my question wasn't valid--even though I had seen several "ready" plates stacked at the chef's counter. Thank goodness for the server--just as our parking was about to expire, our simple order of two eggs and skewers finally arrived after nearly an hour. In fairness, the barista was excellent, and my ordering style may have been a bit confusing. However, the long delay before seeking clarification--followed by a dismissive response--left me feeling "meh," despite my initial excitement to return to Frothy Monkey. The location and seating are super charming, quaint, and historic. The waitperson, barista, and chef's quality cooking ultimately made it worth the stop. We were looking for something low key for a light dinner and remembered passing this place as we were exploring the Chattanooga Choo Choo. The progress flag displayed prominently helped too. We are all about inclusive, welcoming spaces. This large cafe is situated inside the old train station and the ambience of the space is very inviting for couples looking to have a chat over coffee or large families having a good time. The service was impeccable and the food was good with generous portions. The only thing I could complain about is the bathrooms. It's a common bathroom shared with all the tenants of this space and while it's fine for me, I can see a single parent out with more than one child, struggling to decide whether or not to pack them all up so one could use the restroom, or trusting an older child to make it there and back safely. I made Frothy my latte choice for years, going every weekend and some weekdays, but recently, they decided to no longer include non-fat milk as an option. no real reason was provided except the manager decided. I know other customers were asking for it and it wasn't sitting in the fridge going bad because the often ran out and I saw other customers ordering it. I prefer their coffee to other places, but having the milk that meets my dietary needs is more important. Please bring back the non-fat milk. read more

I'm not one to leave reviews on places often, but this experience warrants one no doubt, me and my friend had a weekend trip in Chattanooga and this was our last stop on the trip before driving back to Nashville, we walked in knowing exactly what we wanted but still had to wait over an hour for our food, the wait staff was very friendly but the lack of hustle and urgency was horrible. Our waiter after taking our order let us know they'd be going on break and a new server would be taking over our table, but oddly enough we never saw or spoke to that new server a single time, instead we waited the hour for our food and a manager brought our food out and then the old server who had gone on break then checked on us after the food arrived. The food itself was pretty bad my friend ordered an omelet and it looked like a child had made it, the cheese wasn't even melted it looked as if they forgot to put it in while cooking so just decided to toss it in after. My food was alright I ordered a simple breakfast with a bagel, bacon, eggs, orange slices and grits. It was just okay and the grits were cold as ice with literally 0 flavor what so ever, if I were you I'd highly recommend just going 1 door over to stir it's a much better breakfast/brunch option. Oh and forgot to mention after we finished eating and almost all our plates were off the table we had to wait 15-20 minutes before waiving our server down to ask for a check, I paid for 1 hour parking "should be plenty of time" but we ended up spending almost 2 hours inside, which is egregious for a breakfast place, I'm a bartender/manager and it's very rare im disappointed like this because I understand when places are busy/understaffed but this place had literally 0 excuses the place wasn't busy and there were tons of staff walking around management is seriously failing in this place. read more

The building was cool, the ambience was okay but that was just about it, the management must struggle because they were out of three things that I asked to order including items as simple as pasta and condensed milk. Once the food showed up it was alright. The waitstaff were nice however the hostess snapped at my wife when she had mentioned we called ahead, and everything was relatively slow although the waitstaff was very nice. They didn't know how to multitask and there was no hustle. Our server came by our table about four or five times that she could've brought the check or seen how everything was going to clean off other tables without ever bringing the check.
