I had high expectations after all the reviews and was sadly let down. The place is cute. Downtown and easy parking. Only 5 min wait and a large menu. The service was poor. It felt very rushed and not personable. The Maya drink was mediocre. The burrito was good. They brought my husband drink cold when he asked it hot so instead of remaking they decided to microwave it (terrible). They forgot my potatoes which was fine. Would we back? No. read more

This si a nice little breakfast spot near the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Atmosphere is like a cool coffee bar. I could almost picture people coming in and playing board games. We got in about 1/2 hour before close and ended up with a single table. I would have loved the community tables personally, but it is never lost when you are with company you like. I grabbed my norm with a new breakfast restaurant: Denver Omelet. Nicely done with just enough brownning to get the maillard effect. Hash browns were large chunks and nicely seasoned and browned. Burger Week here in Chattanooga is a bit of an interesting happening. Bluegrass Grill is one of the best breakfast spots in town and here they are, a participant in Burger Week, while some of the best burger spots in town, don't participate at all. I enjoy when a restaurant "plays" outside their comfort zone, and feel a real need to support those spots that do. So today we visited Bluegrass and while I sampled their Burger Week entry, the rest of the table kept with the more traditional approach, breakfast. This is really a funky, eclectic little spot. Family-owned, it's always a beehive of activity, Small, packed inside with even a few community tables, they also have a couple tables outside on the street. Hey, and they even feature coffee from my favorite local roaster, Mad Priest. The flavors they opted to meld together for their Greek Freak Burger, were out there. There was a lot going on and you could absolutely pick up on some of those actual ingredients, starting first with their bun option, which was a Parmesan-sesame crusted sourdough. I liked the burger, it was a brave execution, and I had to fight off others at our table that wanted to sample it. Service is great, though on this particular day, food delivery was a bit slow......it may have had something to being on the Burger Week circuit. This is our favorite brunch spot and we've never left disappointed. Admittedly, you're going to have to wait sometimes to get a seat. But the weight is worth it and it's not too long usually. After a long drive from Florida, we were starving and looking for a quick spot to fuel up before heading over to visit Ruby Falls. Bluegrass Grill offered a decent breakfast selection, and the service was friendly and quick, which was just what we needed. As a breakfast lover, though, I have to say the meal was good but not anything to rave about. It hit the hunger spot, for sure, but it didn't quite elevate itself above the standard diner fare. Everything was cooked well, but the flavors didn't stand out as much as I'd hoped. It was solid and satisfying--just nothing exceptional. All in all, Bluegrass Grill is a reliable stop for a basic breakfast if you're in the area, but it doesn't quite have that "wow" factor I was hoping for. The service was incredible. Our server, Nina, was so helpful and so kind. It was loud but not so loud you couldn't talk. The food was so yummy - truly one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The toasted coconut coffee was recommended by our server in training and man he was right on. It was so good, and giant (pictured with butter and creamer for size comparison). I subbed the sides of the black bean burrito for chorizo and a slice of the Japanese milk bread French toast. I cannot overstate how good it was. We literally ate here 3x in a row, our entire stay in Chattanooga. The food waa consistently good, the service was quick, people were kind and they always got our orders right. The restaurant is casual, it was always alot of people but we ordered ahead. We ordered omelets, pancakes and fruit for our toddler and biscuits. My husband loved his omelet with the brisket. And I absolutely loved my custom omelet with spinach tomato and feta... not to mention the biscuit with homemade strawberry jam/puree- chef's kiss! I had Saturday brunch at Bluegrass Grill last weekend and really enjoyed it. We waited maybe 20 minutes as it was quite busy even before 10am. It's a smaller place but they have outdoor seating and it has a friendly vibe. They have a huge menu of delicious-sounding breakfast options so something for everyone; our server was great and gave us several recommendations. I went with a biscuit with bacon, egg and cheese and it was very good; the biscuits are an unusual mix of white and wheat so they are more dense than the traditional southern biscuit. The cheese grits were good though not overly creamy. The coffee was standard diner fare which is how I roll, so very much enjoyed it. Buttermilk Pancakes from here we're really good and pretty big. It was only two of them but it felt like it was five! Denver omelette what's good. I have no complaints about it. It was cooked very well, and did not fall apart when I tried to get into it lol. Fancy bacon flight: Mixed berry was good, the tart and sweet combo to a science. 1st Thai plum was okay, it has more savory than it needed and was a little overpowered with salty and savory... More than usual bacon. 4th Orange was more salty but the aftertaste was 101% orange. It was pretty sticky so you will have to wipe your hands lol was decent though. Third Ranch was ranch lol it's what you would expect. You have had bacon on a salad so this was akin to that. 2nd I would definitely 100% suggest this place as someplace you stop off if you're needing breakfast or lunch. If you sit at the bar you will get a lot of conversation and they will talk to you and you have a good time as you wait for your food. We were advised to try this place from a waitress at Main Street Meats the night before - MSMs is not open for breakfast but EPIC and right down the street. Anyway - there was a wait on a Saturday at peak brunch time, but it moved quickly. Great advice from the waitress here that resulted in a "bacon flight" starter plate of Cajun candied bacon, blueberry and lemon bacon, nacho bacon, garlic parm bacon. All great. The garlic parm belongs on some pizza because it was so wonderful but our fav was the Cajun. Spices but not hot - was like candy! The Hubby order his brunch fav - French toast and their version is now in his top 5 of all time. I love Benedict, so I got that after the server confirmed it was good and it did NOT disappoint. Perfectly poached eggs and the sauce was yummy. They claim "the best biscuits" but they are different than your Granny makes. Bluegrass Grill wasn't originally on our radar when we visited Chattanooga, but we walked by one day on the way to another place and saw their advertisement for biscuits. We decided we had to try one. Like every breakfast place in the area, Bluegrass Grill was completely packed and super busy inside. People in Chattanooga really seem to love their breakfasts/brunches. We only got one item to go since we had also picked up pastries at another place down the street. Egg & Cheese Biscuit ($4.75) - The first thing I noticed were how small and lightweight the biscuits are here. They are only around 2.5" in diameter, which is definitely on the small side. I ordered the egg over medium and it was done more over easy than medium, with a mostly runny egg yolk that meshed with the American cheese and ran all over the packaging (including on the exterior of the foil which was surprising). The biscuit was very light, delicate, and super fluffy with a very distinct wheat flavor. It's a completely different style of biscuit, one that doesn't really have those super buttery laminated layers. I think overall the biscuit wasn't what I was expecting and wasn't what I wanted in the first place, but it was still executed well and tasted good. Bluegrass Grill seems like another good place in the area to pick up brunch. It's certainly not a bad choice if you're in the area. read more

Wait list started after that and still going after 10 AM. Service was good. Decor was old fashioned cute but food was only a B- at best. Quiche and an omelet were fine but nothing special. Omelet lacked spice and so did the grits. They may have even forgotten the salt! The bacon was excellent though! Southern breakfast that is affordably priced, served by friendly employees in a homelike environment. It's very cozy so not recommended for large groups, a few tables and 5 barstools. I walked in on a Friday morning around 11am and it was pretty busy, not one empty table but thankfully there was a barstool available. This is a no-frills spot which is okay because they're serving up delicious eats which is what matters most. Street parking and a gravel lot behind the building, both areas were paid parking so if you're staying in the area, I recommend walking. I ordered a vegetable supreme omelet with cheese, each omelet is serviced with two sides, I went carb overload and ordered a biscuit and skillet potatoes. There was no way I was dining here and not trying their biscuit! Now my meal was really good, like eating a home cooked meal, I pretty much cleaned my plate. Let me start by saying that I am not reviewing the Bluegrass Grill as a breakfast/lunch restaurant. I do not wish to impugn their reputation as a long-standing member of the business community. I am reviewing their recent valentines day evening meal. My husband showed me the menu they had posted. I thought it was a little ambitious but we decided to book a table for the 7:45 PM seating. They had two choices, one was at 5:30 PM. I thought that was a little too early. So we planned our drive to arrive at 7:30. However, as we were driving an email popped in to my account from the Bluegrass Grill titled important in all capitals. I was not happy to read that they were apparently running behind around 15 minutes. So having received that email, even though we arrived at the parking lot by 7:30 we stayed in the car and waited to walk up to the door until about 7:50. When we walked up, we saw quite a large number of people already standing outside the door. Inside was still completely full of people sitting at their tables. I was dismayed. 7:45 is already a tiny bit late for me to be eating dinner. 8 o'clock was pushing my limits. The next thing that I discovered was that apparently they had been checking people in as they were walking up and it was clear that they were intending to seat people in that order. If you recall, I mentioned that my original plan was to arrive at 7:30 but the email that I received made us wait so basically the staff at the Bluegrass Grill sent me an email and therefore I walked up later than many other people, and then was penalized for this by being one of the last to be checked in, and therefore one of the last to be seated. This was not fair and needs to be rethought. Next, I continued to stare into the restaurant as people continued not to leave. It became clear that the staff at the Bluegrass Grill was going to wait for every last individual from the 5:30 seating to leave before seating anyone for the 7:45. It was increasingly frustrating to watch as people left very very slowly. You would think that while we waited all this time that the staff would be freshening up the tables. We were seated at 8:30, which is really unforgivable considering the over $100 per person price tag that was attached to this meal. The first thing that I took a picture of was not the decoration on the table or the room. It was the stains that were on my tablecloth from the 5:30 seating. So not only did I have to wait forever to be seated, but my tablecloth was not even refreshed. The pacing of the 7:45 that became an 8:30 seating was fine. The food however, lacked many many things. For a celebratory dinner with an over $100 price tag I expect many things. I expect quality food and I expect beautiful plating. The first course was a salad. It was quite small and it was only mediocre. The second course was a soup. It did not mention that the soup would be cold. So I assume the soup should have been warm. I personally do not like any form of soup that is not hot so I tried one bite and put the spoon down. The next course was a fish croquet that was supposedly Thai inspired. It had no discernible Thai flavor that I could detect, but at least it was warm. Then we had a pallet cleanser that appeared to be frozen pieces of watermelon. The entrée and let me stress the word entrée here was a sous vide tenderloin fillet. Typically for a fancy dinner with an over $100 price tag that is a course meal one would receive a minimum of 4 ounces. If this was 4 ounces I will apologize, but I seriously doubt it. It was quite small. The next course was a cheese trio that I am still trying to figure out what the third cheese was. I am a cheese lover, and I hated everything on this plate. Not only was it severely unattractive, but the taste failed for me. Then there was a pallet reset which was a citrus coffee. We received this close to 10 PM so I asked if it was caffeinated and of course it was so I gave mine to my husband because I cannot have caffeine after around 5 PM. The last course was the dessert trio. The plate was so ugly. I hate to even include the picture. I tried each item and they were awful. So to sum it up, it was not a good experience from the beginning all the way to the end and I hope that if they plan to do this next year, they think very very hard before doing two seatings and possibly they should not be as ambitious with their menu. read more

Wow! This place was amazing! I went in at 9:30 on a Friday morning & was surprised by how busy they were. Luckily I was by myself & was immediately seated at the 3 seater bar. I ordered decaf coffee & they made a fresh pot for me & refilled it every time my cup got half empty. The Mediterranean frittata was incredible! I got the biscuit & gravy for my side. I was a little put off by the half whole wheat/half white flour biscuit (we are in the South) but it was great too. Took a while for food to come, but they were busy & delicious looking food was flowing out the whole time I was there. Parking a little sparse, but you definitely want to eat here.
