I don't know. I want to give a higher review. I just can't. For starters, finding parking was difficult and confusing. Then we walked into a very small establishment and were seated immediately. Hmmm, music was like death metal. And loud. And unpleasant. The pancakes and verrrry thick. They must use a mix or a filler or a mold to achieve this. They tasted pretty good but unnaturally thick and unnaturally yellow. The biscuits and gravy? Best I can say is - don't do it. The biscuits were literally rock hard. No exaggeration. The house pancakes are huge and fluffy corn bread style - while I was not expecting this style at all, I enjoyed the texture and flavor. Just be aware if u order for kids. That dish could have been amazing unfortunately we could only enjoy 1 as the other was burnt and hidden on the bottom of the stack. The spicy grits were clumpy and completely bland. Unfortunately, this visit to Aretha Frankensteins was a huge disappointment. My husband and I had loved this restaurant in the past and were really excited to bring our family to experience a place we once enjoyed so much. We arrived early so we could get a table, but the door wasn't opened until about five minutes after the posted opening time, even though the staff had seen us standing outside. From the beginning, the experience just felt off. Our waitress, Alexa, was extremely rude and made the experience even more unpleasant. My mother-in-law ordered the pumpkin spice latte, which unfortunately didn't taste like pumpkin at all and was very disappointing. We were also really looking forward to their famous waffle with ice cream, only to find out they were completely out of ice cream. Since that wasn't an option, I ordered a regular waffle instead. I remember their waffles being huge, but what I received was incredibly thin and small--and at $11.25, the portion was honestly shocking. I understand that restaurants can have an off day and that things can run out, but when you combine that with the poor service and the quality and portion of the food, the entire experience was just disappointing. What an amazing find, well hidden and off the proverbial beaten path! The kitchen turns out some amazing breakfast dishes, the pancakes are huge, the short stack of two pancakes is more than enough, for the very hungry people go for the 3 stack! I had the Italian omelet with the spicy grits and OMG both were fantastic. Prices were extremely fair and that's something that is uncommon today. The interior of the restaurant is something you will just want to check out every wall, the ceiling and corners. There is something for everyone to see . Serice fast so fast when I walked in the door, I lucked up and immediately found a seat at the counter and my drink was in front of me and my order taken in just a couple minutes. The pancakes are the real star of the show here with the ambiance a very close second. The walls and ceiling were lined with vintage cereal boxes, movie posters, skeletons, and goblins. For all the tangible, retro, nostalgia-coated decor that calls back to a time when practical effects were how monsters were made it is so surprising then to see their merch emblazoned with AI slop. I wanted a shirt because I'm a sucker for glow-in-the-dark anything, but not enough of a sucker to buy the slop shirt. The biscuits were so-so, the gravy tasted like Cracker Barrel's (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just not what you'd expect from a place like this), but the fried potatoes and the pancakes were so good. I'll definitely skip the biscuits and gravy and just order the pancakes and potatoes if I make it back there again. Those were the standouts to me. The poor girls working the front of house were short staffed and being run ragged, but they were still very nice and attentive. It also seemed to be one of their birthdays unfortunately. It's a VERY SMALL establishment and parking is limited, mainly street parking since it's located in a residential area. There's maybe 4-5 tables inside plus a bar area, leading to an hour+ wait which was okay since our Airbnb was close by and we had inquired about a table after running in the 7 Bridged race. The service was average but the food was good. The biggest bummer was it was a Sunday morning, popular brunch day/time and we were there around 1030ish and they were out of gravy! Another let down, was they didn't have any nondairy milk option so i couldn't order a latte. The biscuit appeared to look like a grands pillsbury biscuit. Okay, have you ever seen pancakes this fat before? I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm obsessed. I couldn't finish the pancakes, so I took the rest to-go and ate them cold as leftovers right out the fridge. It reminds me of corn bread, which I don't normally eat, but these were perfection. I also ordered the Sod Buster omelette (3 eggs with potatoes, onions, applewood smoked bacon, and cheese). Don't waste your time or money at this place. Ridiculously overrated for bland simple breakfast food. Waited over 50 minutes to be seated, we asked multiple times if the seats at the bar could be used since they were completely empty and there were only two of us, we were told they were for a party of three. We then watched as those seats were given to a group of three people who arrived after us. When we were finally seated at the bar and food was ordered we watched as the couple next to us who might I add came after us received their food before us. I typically try to give a place a shot but this tourist trap is a waste of time, go somewhere else where there is better coffee, food and service. Don't catch a cold waiting outside, you can't order a hot drink while waiting and there is little to no room to wait inside for an empty seat. If you're not going to put in a reservation system and make people wait in the cold put a space heater outside. If I could give this zero stars I would, please I beg you go somewhere else. Just like Aretha Franklins song says "What you want, baby I got it" friends took us there for an amazing breakfast. Did you ever go into a restaurant and realize this place is special? This is one of those places. We went because we heard their specialty is pancakes, and although none of us are big pancake fans I must say we all tried them and we all were very impressed. Thick pancakes and our server asked us if we wanted to try their special blueberry butter. He said we consider it the icing on the cake and we were all glad we did give it a try. The coffee was perfect the servers were fun and friendly and the atmosphere amazing. The first oddity we noticed were all the framed cereal box fronts on the ceiling. The more we looked around the more interesting things we found to look at. The food was done to perfection the only thing that was even a problem was finding parking, since they have no parking lot you must park on the street.
