I visited during a low-traffic time and was able to find decent street parking, which was a nice start. Service was reasonably quick, and the ambiance was stellar. I absolutely loved the décor. The menu is extensive, and it was hard to choose just one thing, so my friend and I ordered two juices (Dope Beets & Let's Kick It Out) and two plates (the Grilled Pimento Panini and the Buddha Bowl) to share. The juices were phenomenal. Honestly, I would go back just for those. I really wanted to love the food, but unfortunately, it lacked flavor. I even ordered a cookie to try to redeem the meal, but that missed the mark as well. I felt especially bad because I brought a non-vegan friend and didn't want their first impression of vegan food to be a disappointing one, but sadly, that's how it turned out. That said, I'd be willing to return and try something different. Maybe it was just an off day, or perhaps the dishes we chose just weren't the best representation of the menu. I'd definitely come back for the juices, and I'm curious to try the smoothies too. Those might be a winner. I really want this place to thrive and wish them all the best! The man serving us was incredibly personable and humorous. He was very enthusiastic about their food and radiated good energy. I got the jackfruit sandwich, the texture was amazing, but I believe it was very salty (I got a mix of buffalo and barbecue sauce mix) and with that I believe getting only barbecue might be better to keep the saltiness level of the sandwich down. My friend was very impressed with how real the cheesy taco tasted, good cheese taste and texture. The Buddha bowl had a beautiful presentation and was very balanced and nutritious. YUM! Great vegan spot in North Shore! The vibes are chill and the food is good at Real Roots Cafe. The person at the counter was welcoming and helpful as it was our first time there. My husband had the Reuben 2.0 and said it was excellent. He also tried the Kingston juice blend and really enjoyed it. I'm a bit surprised that the vegetarian food scene in Chattanooga can support a cafe of this sort, but not unhappily so. I stopped in for an early lunch (noting that many of their salads and food items aren't available until 10:30, which wasn't ideal for me). I ended up with a taco salad; their version of vegan nacho cheese, whatever it was, didn't really hit it off for me; kind of runny and an odd taste, albeit not enough to stop me from enjoying what was otherwise an interesting mix of flavors including a bit of hearty red lentil chili. Their interpretation of hot chocolate has a very natural taste with a hint of spices that made it sing. It was really satisfying, and it was not a small thing for me to try this in a town that has a majestic hot chocolate restaurant. It did take quite a while for whatever process they use to make it, but the result was worthwhile. They had some interesting-looking sweets. So while I had a few negative notes and the portion size for the price was not huge, it was a worthwhile meal for me. read more

Really good vegan option in Chattanooga! So far I've had the Aloha bowl and Hawaiian panini and both were great! Of the two I'd say the panini was a touch better (and the chips it came with were delicious!) My bf had the Smothered Burrito and was a tad disappointed, it ended up being mostly rice and wasn't as flavorful as he was hoping. Overall though will definitely be going back to try more things! I'd give it a solid 6.5/10. now - The serving size of the large buffalo no chicken chicken salad was good, BUT. the greens in the bowl did not seem happy, in fact quite the opposite, they were wilted & sad. also!!!! ASK FOR DRESSING ON THE SIDE, (the bowl was LOADED like it took a bath in the dressing for a few days and just plopped out onto the plate) My friend was not enjoying the bowl, so I offered to trade. One of the bites I took definitely threw my stomach off... I don't know what specifically it was, but I knew as soon as I took the bite. Also, randomly saw a staff member coming in with a modelo, maybe that's who's taste testing it??... Perhaps, I'd also have to be intoxicated to understand what the taste is trying to convey.... After 7 months and a really fond memory of my previous experience I was back in the area and decided to take a 30 minute ride to experience good, tasty and nutritious food. I was extremely disappointed. This was nothing like my original experience! The space was nearly the same. A few less drinks in the cooler (not a big deal). The staff, who was not the owner I had met the first time, was less than thrilled to be here (to be objective she could have been having a rough day). This didn't bother me, as I didn't come for friendly conversation, I came for the food. I'm not a picky eater. Therefore, I have a "when I'm Rome" approach and nearly always go off the suggestion of the staff when I not familiar with the menu. The Island Hopper toast was her favorite, so I went with that without a fuss. Come's in at $6.5, which is more than fair for a meal. Especially a healthy one. Upon the food's arrival my mind did double take at the small amount of food on the plate (it did say toast on menu). I got what I order a a two slice's of toast cut in half with avocado paste. It was not a meal. It was an appetizer. The paste, as I like to refer to it was lack luster in flavor, though it boasted some beautiful ingredients. For the positive part of the review, the hot cocoa was good. And I believe the food is probably the healthiest food in this neighborhood, which is a great thing. However, I wouldn't ever make the drive down here for this again. Only if I was in the neighborhood and I do not recommend the toast for $6.50. The posted picture is of the meal as it arrived. I am not the type of individual to seek confrontation out of sheer disrespect or inability to swallow my pride, but I will always voice matters of unfairness and wrongdoings. I believe this review is necessary given that there are two sides of a successful business- one where the customers are happy, and one where the employees are happy. Personally, I wouldn't want to support a business/work at one if I heard employees come forward with such concerns as shared below. I was an employee of Real Roots up until mid-June 2022. THE FACTS: 1. I put in my 2 weeks (mid June), and expressed my feelings about the occasional "argumentative" workplace to the wife. The husband refused to talk to me about the situation after I stayed later past my shift to discuss the issue with him. 2. He texted me the next day to say he would immediately take me off the schedule and I would not be able to complete my 2 weeks notice. 3. For the weeks I worked in June, I did not receive my portion of the pooled credit card tipouts. He stated he dispersed them between the other employees who worked the rest of the month, and that I had no one to blame but myself (although I fully intended to finish the month of June but he did not allow me to do so). Real Roots, at face value, is a great cafe for the vegan food, friendliness, and aesthetic. I can say many positive things about my experience there as an employee, but there were some not-so- pleasant situations occurring "behind the scenes". I won't divulge them at this time, but I will say that the male owner never apologized to us staff (and nearly all had voiced similar feelings as mine) for the tense work environment... but his wife occasionally did, on his behalf. The texts I received from him in response to my inquiry were not based on professionalism, and his decision to withhold tips for the days I worked hard on, is 100% groundless and unethical. read more

What a bummer. I had driven out to the old RRC when they were in Ft. O many times and they were always so kind and friendly. I went to the new location today and I was kind of shocked at how different the service was. The cashier was not nice at all and then I waited a really long time for my drink. It wasn't the owners who were rude, because they were the ones making the food (I recognized them because as I said... former customer). It just kind of felt snobby? Which is a bummer, bc it seems like vegan places either are so crunchy or so snobby that people aren't into it, but the old joint was neither. An extremely cute and quaint shop off battlefield parkway that caters to vegans and vegetarians! I came for the smoothie bowls and it did not disappoint. I had the small peak bowl with mangos, peanut butter, granola, hemp seed and more. It came out the perfect texture with a little crunch from the granola and it was so yummy. I can't wait to try more of their bowls. I also tried their jackfruit sandwich, and as a carnivore myself, the flavor profile was perfect, with the mixture of bbq and buffalo, but the consistency threw me off. It isn't something I would partake in again, but everything else here I tried was great. I can't wait to come back and try more bowls and smoothies!!!
