This was my first time at Indochine, but not the last! Our server Emily was spectacular, always attentive and smiling. We were celebrating our twin daughters' graduation, and the staff made it a very special night. We ordered several appetizers, but the hit was the Spring Rolls. I got the Pork Collar (5 stars on its own), but the Salmon, Shaking Beef, and Vietnamese Barbecue Chicken were also beautiful and tasty. We closed with the Rum Cake and the Chocolate mousse. Our group of 7 visited Indochine on a Sunday night. We were originally supposed to be a party of 13, so because of our larger group size, we had arranged for the prix fixe menu ahead of time. The day of dinner, our group unexpectedly dropped down to 7 people, but thankfully Indochine was very accommodating and still allowed us to keep the prix fixe menu while only charging for the guests who were actually present. The prix fixe menu was $95 per person, with an additional welcome cocktail priced at $16 each. When selecting the menu, we were able to choose 3 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 3 sides for the table. They then brought out two of each selected dish, including appetizers, entrees, sides, and desserts. Our welcome cocktail was a passion pomegranate margarita. It was delicious, pretty strong, and definitely on the sweeter side. For appetizers, we chose the chicken shrimp summer rolls, fried spring rolls with sweet plum sauce, and salt and pepper rock shrimp. I enjoyed everything except the summer rolls. They were cold, very plain, lacked flavor, and the texture just wasn't for me personally. For entrees, we had the spicy shrimp, spicy chicken breast, and shaking beef. The shaking beef was my favorite dish of the night. It was flavorful and stood out amongst the other entrees. For sides, we had jasmine rice, sautéed pea shoots, and shrimp fried rice. Dessert included every dessert offered on the prix fixe menu: coconut crème brûlée, French lemon tart, and chocolate truffle cake. The lemon tart was actually my personal favorite. Everyone else at the table thought it was too tart, but I thought the balance was perfect. It's probably a little intense to eat entirely on its own, but alternating bites with the coconut crème brûlée made it even better. I normally don't even like crème brûlée, but this one had such a nice coconut and vanilla bean flavor. I love vanilla bean flavored desserts! I absolutely loved the ambiance of the restaurant. The lighting was dim, candles were lit at every table, and the entire space felt intimate and romantic without trying too hard. It really elevated the overall dining experience. Now the service? IMPECCABLE. Our waitress, Hailey, was incredibly attentive throughout the night. Plates were constantly cleared, silverware was replaced between courses, and water glasses were refilled without anyone feeling intrusive. There were also several other waitresses assisting throughout dinner service, which made everything flow smoothly despite how busy the restaurant was. The decor is different, but the food reminds me what Le Colonial was is SF many many years ago. And that was kind of a hot spot as well. So we originally made a rez for 4 people, but we had a gf join last min and they happily accommodated. We were seat at a table in the front area. The restaurant is very busy and bustling so if you want a rather chill quiet dinner, this is not the place. Cocktails are amazing. They make them nice and stiff which is totally up my alley. Food was good. I mean for elevated french vietnamese fusion, it was what I expected. I did wish we ordered the sea bass instead as I'm like my fish steamed, but my friend wanted the reg fried fish so we went with that. I adore my green veggies so enjoyed the kale. Indochine has remarkable staying power, especially in a city where fashionable restaurants can disappear almost overnight. Its audience is worldly, fickle, and surrounded by options, yet this place has remained sought after since 1984 because the food and experience have always backed up the scene. My wife and I came during Covid and had an amazing meal, possibly including the spring rolls, sea bass, beef, and rock shrimp, though what I remember most clearly is how cool and charming the restaurant felt without trying too hard. The banana leaf interior has been copied endlessly. However, the original still has a confidence and magic that cannot really be reproduced, and I always smile when I pass it across from Barry's, another Lafayette Street institution where I have spent far too much time and money. read more

In the words of Dylan, this restaurant spits hot fire . There's a reason why they've been around for so long, because they're still killing it in 2026. The roasted duck breast was the best duck dish I have ever had in my life. Similarly, the shaking beef was tender and flavorful. You may be sitting very close to another party, but at least here you don't feel like it's so close to the point where you are actually dining with those other parties. As mentioned in other reviews, all of the staff are tall and could be models. Eclectic playlist, Classy decor and lighting, with white tablecloths. Perfect place for a nice date or small girls dinner. One of those rare restaurants where both the young and the old heads will be charmed by. My friends and I enjoyed our experience, but weren't blown away. Overall, our main issue was that the food was too expensive for the flavor and quality we received. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very swanky, and the servers were kind and welcoming. However, it was hard for us to get their attention to ask questions and it took a while for us to get seated even though we had a reservation. It also seemed like they forgot one of our dishes and we had to ask multiple times before it came out near the end of dinner. The food was all good, and the restaurant is very gluten free friendly. Came here for my birthday... last-minute celebration. They snuck us in, even though we didn't have a reservation, and they had a large party coming in. So I'm very thankful for the staff for that. They were all very lovely and extremely friendly. Very professional, great hospitable personalities, whoever is doing the hiring of FOH staff is doing a great job. Now I can't say the same for the food and beverage. I really wish I could, I desperately want to say I loved everything! But alas, some of it was just generic and overpriced. We shared four apps, the eggplant (divine), the fried spring rolls (insanely overpriced, but delicious), the summer vegetable roll (generic and I'm shocked they charged that much for that little of portion size - it's not Daniel), and the crispy rock shrimp (were mid at best). I got the shaking beef for my entrée, and my friend got the steamed Vietnamese ravioli as a main. The beef was tasty, great flavor, however, there was so much salt and that takes a lot for me to say. I love a salty dish, but it was so salty my gums were hurting the next day from being cleansed. My friend hated the ravioli. We also got a side of mushroom rice that was a special, it was earthy... I can't say much else about it other than it tasted... dirty. The highlight of the meal was the cocktails, which were very well done, and were reasonably priced for the execution. Great bar program. We shared a coconut crème brûlée for dessert, which was also lovely and our server was so sweet to recommend it. Overall, it could've been better. For two people with two drinks each plus the above menu, and tip it cost about $175.00 per person. Not terrible, but a bit of a stretch for what was received. I've had better meals at that price point. I think this place is thriving off of a history, not its kitchen, standards or pricing. My only complaints are that the lychee martini, while delicious, tasted and felt like there was no alcohol in it (and I'm not a heavy drinker), and that our waitress kept trying to upsell items which I understand but it felt a bit obnoxious. read more

This place has been on my boyfriend's wish list for a while - as it should because it is an icon . So on our last trip back to NYC (I'm a born & bred NYer - he's not) we took my mom and daughter with us on a Friday night. We all worried that the history/price point/ambiance would mean snotty service but the staff, all slender and probably models, were nothing but warm and service was excellent throughout. We were seated right away with our reservation. My mom and I I were drinking wine all night, partner the virgin mojitos and my daughter the lemonade. Here is everything we ordered : fried spring rolls : bomb grilled eggplant : so good My mom had the salmon and was very happy. I had the fried striped bass which was not only so artfully displayed but very tasty. My daughter had the shaking beef and it was good. My boyfriend had the pork collar - exceptional. And yes we all tried a different dessert. The list was : pineapple with coco sorbet (refreshing) lemon tart (just ok) coco creme brulee ( I could have eaten 3) run cake with coco ice cream (also could have had 3). It was super loud and there were 2 "owner tables" that were wide open that they won't let us move to because it was an option for the owner discretion. My chair and my aunt's were directly in the path so we were knocked into, busers/food runners constantly running into my chair. Guests had to slide sideways to get to their seats behind us. It was awful. That table shouldn't exist the space they set it up in. Surprisingly easy to get a last minute reservation on a Friday night. My friend and I were looking for something nice in that area. The atmosphere is very nice and classy-- people were well dressed and it was crowded. The first waitress who came to our table told us almost everything on the menu was gluten free and dairy free other than the crab cakes and the shaking beef. But when I went to order the ribs and confirm with a second waitress, she said it wasn't gluten free. They still had a lot of gluten and dairy free options though. My friend and I split 2 appetizers and one main. We got the Asian kale salad and the grilled eggplant to start. Both were good. Solid but nothing special. Then I got the Vietnamese barbequed chicken which was a surprisingly large generous portion. I found the chimichurri sauce on the side to be too spicy so I didn't put it on the chicken which left the chicken a little bland. We had a few bevy's and a couple appetizers and entrees and loved all of it!! Are the tables too close together? Sure, but it's New York. It's expected. Had the Indochine martini and was quite tasty. My partner enjoyed his mezcal cocktail as well. The Kale salad was dressed perfectly, the "ravioli" was basically rolls and were delicious. Shaking beef was cooked perfectly and delicious. The first word that comes to me regarding this place is pretentious... It is it a snobby restaurant on the wrong area, hence high prices, and not much to do about it. Came here for a family birthday dinner! I think that the service is excellent, and the interior of the restaurant is beautiful. You really do feel like you're in a fine-dining restaurant. I will say that the crowd tends to sway older - think 50s+. I do think that the food would be unreasonably priced, but we managed to come here during restaurant week, so an app and entree and dessert were for $60/pp. I loved everything we ate! Since Le Colonial closed, we have been looking or another Vietnamese higher end option. We were pleasantly surprised by Indochine. The food was really good and the service was also very good. The noise level was too high & the diners sitting next to us were nearly yelling at each other to carry out their conversations . Thumbs down. Not to my liking. The appetizer, Vietnamese ravioli was quite tasty but the main menu we had was mediocre . The portion was large enough to share but the staff should have told us beforehand as we couldn't finish the three dinner plates we ordered for the party of three with the price range of $50 per person. Came here for our Valentine's Day dinner this year. The ambiance was suiting for a nice intimate Tuesday dinner. We sat in the perfect corner of the restaurant that was equal parts tucked away while also giving and eagle eyed view of the entire restaurant--the restaurant filled quickly. I was blown away by Indochine. I have always wanted to go - it is a NYC icon. It is now my favorite NYC restaurant. The food was amazing- such great flavors. We had the beef salad, rock shrimp appetizer, sautéed rice with Shrimp and the Salmon. All were DEVINE. The service was also top notch. They were attentive, friendly and beautiful. Recommend doing family style with the table so you can try a bit of everything.
