I was pleasantly surprised by this place and don't agree with all the negative reviews. I ordered pho (#5). The meat was tender, the broth was flavorful and not too salty. Overall, I had a good experience and will be coming back again. In fact, I actually thought this was better than Mekong Delta, with the benefit of not being too cramped and crowded. Does it look nice? No. This place looks like more of a work-in-progress, but I don't need a place to look nice in order to enjoy my food. If you're looking for good Pho in the city, check out Indochine. Their broth is spot on! My only recommendation would be to eat in and not get it to go- that was a little awkward. I know pho to-go can be by nature, but I've seen it done well before, so Indochine could improve their to-go game. I'll definitely try this place again for sure! read more

I come here very often, probably 4-5 times a month. It's not the most authentic pho place but it's good for what Baltimore has. My favorites: Garden rolls- a fresh appetizer to start with, not too heavy. Comes with shrimp, pork or both. Love that peanut sauce! I think I'm addicted to these, I crave them all the time! Vermicelli bowls - I usually get chicken. The pork and beef are decent, sometimes over cooked though. Pho - I get the rare steak. The portions are enormous and filling. Everytime I come here I have to take my food to go which is kind of awesome because I'm basically paying a low price for two meals. (Keep in mind I'm a small person so I probably fill up much faster than big dudes). I don't recommend getting the Banh Mi, they don't have the bread right...gotta have a real french baguette, not the cheap junk! The service here is always SUPER awkward!! Why?!?! I used to live within a few blocks of four pho restaurants and if I were willing to drive a few more minutes there were a half dozen more pho joints. But now I live in Baltimore... Baltimore has plenty of sushi and bad Chinese food, but severely lacks in many other areas of Asian cuisine. Beggars can't be choosy. I ordered an iced coffee and a bowl of pho. Whoever makes the broth for the pho is an artist. Their grandmamma would be proud, and her grandmamma is smiling down from heaven. The miraki shines through. I got the large bowl of basic P1, the meat combo, with all the good stuff except meatballs. It was enormous, and so loaded with perfect noodles and tender meats, that I could barely get half way in. (We'll get back to that) There was a reason for that. The Spring Rolls are huge! I ate one, almost thinking it was half a meal, so I saved the other one for my friend. (We'll get back to that too) I also got a fried pork Bahn Mi, to go, because that's why I really came. Ok, break it down time. I walked in a 4:30 pm. I just wanted to check out their Bahn Mi, to find out if it was 'All That", like I'd been told. That's when the smell of the broth washed over me like the best music my nose had ever heard. So I asked for a table, then went out and put more money in the meter. I had the place to myself, and a wonderful, knowledgeable, attentive y muy linda waitress. The Spring Rolls are huge. And they are perfect. They showed up in about 60 seconds. Perfect shrimp, pork, noodles, herbs and rice. The peanut sauce was fully pureed, which was textually odd, but tasted great, but not perfect. The roll I saved for my friend blew up in the heat of my truck, sitting in 95 degree heat for a minute. So he had to eat it like a salad. Oh the humanity! The Pho was sublime. I only ate the broth for the first few minutes, with no condiments. Oh, mama. The Force is strong with this one. Describing it to you is pointless. Then I added a little hoisin and sriracha Then I ate the noodles. Then the meats, especially the precious tripe were plentiful and perfectly cooked. The side wide-leaf basil, mild jalapenos, sprouts and lime were all fresh. Bhan Mi time. The bread alone is worth the price of admission. The fried pork was pleasing in all ways. The pickled veggies were crisp, but slightly less noticeable in flavor than some. Chef's call. Oh, and it's big. Did I mention the bread? Wrap up. The place is clean and tight, especially for a 200 year old Mt. Vernon town home space. Prices for some of the entrees are a buck or two more than you are used to expecting, but the quantity and quality take care of that. ($5 1/2, $6 bucks for the best bahn mi in town? I can live with that!) I was her only customer, but the service was impeccable, and she had a sense of humor. I always get a different variation of their pho and sometimes spring rolls or calamari to start. It's satisfying. One of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore! This place is fast, affordable, and delicious. I honestly cannot tell you how many times I've come here in the years I've lived in this city. This place is alright. I was a bit skeptical seeing as it was a fusion place. Portions for pho were huge and very filling. The bun thit nuong (vermicelli with meat) was alright. The Thai Iced Tea was good here. The Vietnamese porkchop was not very good though. One thing that I really did not like was the service here. I was coming back from a long trip and wanted a quick bite before I headed to the metro and I stumbled here. I ordered the pork banh mi and the shrimp garden roll to go and one word amazing. It was my first time trying a banh mi so I have nothing to compare this one to, but everything was prefect. The bread was soft and fresh, the pork was cooked well done and seasoned well. It wasn't oily but just the right amount of tender juiciness. There was a generous amount of fresh vegetables and pickles. And for about 5 dollars that filled me up. The garden roll was very fresh and the vegetables were crisp inside. I've never tried it before, but I really enjoyed the peanut sauce as well. Yuuuum. When I can't make it all the way to Towson to the best pho place (pho dat thahn) then this place hits the spot. Get the pho with everything on it, crispy taro rolls, or the house banh mi. I love banh mi and this is the only accessible place for me to get them so yay! The food is all quite awesome and Doug, so why three stars? The Pho is really good plenty of noodles and plenty of meat as well. The extra spicy is a little hotter than expected but was delicious perfectly seasoned and still flavorful not just hot. The fried dumplings were delicious. I always find that the hole in the wall type places serve the best food. If you like Pho then this needs to be your go to place. read more

How does this place only have 3.5 stars? Indochine has the best pho in Baltimore, and I've tried them all. Sure, the place is not fancy by any means and the bathroom doubles as a storage closet, but I will never go anywhere else when I'm craving pho, which happens, on average, once a week. I've never tried the bahn mi or bowls, and probably never will, as long as they keep cranking out that P3. The broth is rich and super flavorful and the portion size is legit. I've never ordered a small, so I have no idea what that's about, but I get the large and I'm always satisfied. Sometimes I get spring rolls too, when I'm feeling decadent, and it's still under $15. My ONLY minor complaint is that eeeeevery once in a while I feel like they skimp on the meat. But I don't care enough to take off a star or to ever stop singing their praises. I love you, Indochine. It's an ok Vietnamese/Indonesian restaurant. I went there for a lunch to grab a pair of garden rolls and a Pho soup. The garden rolls were pretty decent, just as well as the sauce that came with them. The Pho however was a pretty big deception. Broth had a blank taste, just as the noodles, all stick together on the bottom of the bowl. To finish my meal, I ordered a Thai tea, which was quite a deception again. The taste was just off. We asked to separate our bill and the waiter said that was okay only to then bring one check for the entire table. When we asked him to split the check he stated that he could only split it in two for four ppl. When the manger was called to rectify the situation she was very rude and nasty and stated she would accommodate us this ONE time but them mumbled nastily that we didn't have to come back. Waiting for 2 hours in the restaurant after taking the order and they even didn't give us the drinks. And then told us that the waiter didn't take our order, we said ok it's fine but please be hurry. After 10minutes the lady came said they already shreded our order and told us cancel the order and leave. The place is pretty good. I wasn't a big fan of the decor/lighting but in terms of pho, it's better than some other pho places I've been to. The broth is flavorful and satisfying, though not very "spicy", as in not a lot of flavors of anis star/cinnamon/etc. A pretty generous amount of noodles and meat though, which definitely filled me up! I would say that I've certainly had better, but the pho here is still pretty good and gets the job done if I'm in the mood for some Vietnamese and don't want to take a trip all the way out to rt 40. Went here earlier for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. I've been to Mt. Vernon many times for dinner but have never noticed or stopped inside (even though Minato is right next door). I ordered the Char kway teow, which was one their menu specials. The portion was large for the $13 price, with fresh cucumber, lettuce, and pickled daikon with the main dish of flat noodles, bean sprouts, and chicken. I thought it was a little too oily and salty for my taste, but still great since there's a lack of Malay/Singaporean food in the area. Last night was my first time here. Atmosphere was nothing fancy which I prefer, also clean. Was greeted right away and seated. My server was friendly and nice. I had a "33" beer and had the egg omelet that has bean sprouts, prawns, and I believe thinly sliced pork slices in it. I forgot what it's called but it was tasty. Until today, I was a regular customer. While the place is dumpy, but the food was always good and I'm a firm believer in supporting independent businesses in my neighborhood. But, today a friend and I (another regular customer from the neighborhood) ordered an appetizer to split before our entrees. It came to table on a serving plate and we asked for a small plate or two so we could each take our portions. The waitress said she's not allowed to give out extra plates. We asked why and she said she didn't know. This has never been an issue before. We asked to speak to her supervisor. The manager or I believe even co-owner came out and RUDELY told us that they do not provide plates! We asked what the reason was behind that and she said "there is no reason." She refused to give us plates! Unbelievable. We were incredulous since this practice defies all logic. And, the manager/owner was so profoundly disrespectful and rude to loyal customers. So, we left and will NEVER go back. Because of their illogical practice and the mean-spirited nature of the manager/owner, they lost 2 good customers. Outrageous. read more

Tbh I have never written bad reviews cuz I'm lazy but this time I think I gotta warn u guys. This place is getting worse and worse with its environment. All their chairs and tables are very greasy. And the utensils and plates won't make u feel they are very sanitary either. And after all THOSE Indochine still did not cease "amaze" me . I ordered a bubble tea and it didn't come until we were already finished. And when I was drinking it I sucked up a piece of BROCCOLI in my milk tea ...like are you serious . So we asked for a new one to go so we won't waste our 4 dollars. And then the new milktea they gave us is leaking as it's plastic container has a crack at the bottom. Came here the other night for an easy meal. The layout is odd, and the decor/ambience looks more like a place falling apart than a fresh new restaurant. Ordered the vegetable tofu pho, which I found out later was made with beef broth. I was told after the fact that I could have had vegetarian broth if I had asked for it (now I know). Everyone else in my party ordered the standard classic pho. We all agreed that there was nice soup to noodle ratio, but I think that's about it. Went here for lunch today and it was wonderful! Split the shrimp garden rolls and fried pork spring rolls with my lunch buddy - both were very tasty with yummy dipping sauces. I went for the Fatty Brisket Pho and loved it. The broth was rich and the noodles perfect. I was excited to try this place out and was a bit disappointed (since Mekong Delta sets the standard very high). The atmosphere is not great, just a typical restaurant without and flair. The disappointment to me was the menu, I knew going in they had Pho but the rest of the menu consisted of an assortment of unhealthy foods such as fried spring rolls. Nothing unique. My second visit I ordered the chicken pho to go. When ordered for carryout, the dish is divided among several containers to ensure that the meat and vegetables don't overcook in the hot broth: One plastic bowl holds onion slices, noodles and any of the proteins (I like chicken) Another vessel contains a generous serving of the dark broth, deeply fragrant with the scent of anise. Combine these two and top with fixings from a bag packed with bean sprouts, hot pepper slices, lime slices, Asian basil and a small cup of hoisin with hot sauce. Overall, the Pho was decent, but not very complex and had a sweet/creamy taste to it not giving it that fresh taste one expects. And seeing as it is under half a mile from Mekong Delta, I would recomend going there instead. read more
