We've been meaning to try this place out since it's so close to where we live and finally decided to try out their pho and banh mi for a takeout brunch one weekend. We ordered the pho dac biet, chicken pho, and a combination banh mi to split. The pho dac biet was more expensive than their other beef pho offerings so imagine our surprise when we opened up the to-go box to find 1-2 slices of each meat. The broth itself was very heavy on the star anise flavor, which took away from the sweetness of the broth imo. The chicken pho was decent, nothing too crazy. We were even more disappointed in the banh mi - we've heard from our local friends that this is one of the best places to get banh mi in Baltimore, but we found it to be a miss. The bread was woefully soft (good banh mi should be crispy/crumbly on the outside and nice and pillowy soft on the inside) and the meat slices were sliced very thick, which made it difficult to bite the sandwich. There wasn't any pate in the sandwich and their special aioli tasted like Hellman's mayo to us. It just wasn't a great banh mi overall. I don't think we'll be returning back here, unfortunately. read more

I got the Fresh Garden Rolls (A1) and Grilled Beef Vermicelli Bowl (B3). I LOVED both of them. I have been trying to find a good Vietnamese place because everything has been subpar. Ballin on a budget. I love pho and if you want some good pho you might want to check this place out. It's never super packed when I go during the week. Service is fast and food comes out quick. They won't split your check more than 2. So prepare your large groups to sit at multiple tables or bring cash to settle it up. As you would normally get with your pho, I love the freshness that comes on the side. Drop in as much or as little as you want. A large pho is a lot of food, so come with a big appetite. read more

This place deserves zero stars. Never had such a horrifying experience at a restaurant before. The waiters were nice. However, the boss is unprofessional, racist, and ageist. She tried to make us pay for pho and egg rolls with uncooked chicken in it. The meat was PINK. A professional establishment would take the order off the tab in a heartbeat to satisfy the customer and make up for THEIR mistake. However, we were not going to walk out of the place paying for food we did not eat, we were unsatisfied with, and would of made us sick. What does the boss do in response? Calls the cops on us. Not only that, she harasses us by taking pictures of us and the credit card we used! We felt targeted as young people of color. The police never arrived bc they even knew how petty the situation was. Bottom line is don't go and waste your time there. Total waste of money and time. Spend your money in an establishment that actually cares about their customers. read more

This place is really great. I visited with a coworker during the lunch rush. The waiter was prompt and pleasant and the Pho was amazing. I ordered the small lean beef, which was bigger than expected. I will say this has become my favorite Pho spot. I will definitely return. Only down side is that there are no sharing bowls so dont order a large and expect to be able to share. read more

This is THE SPOT for Vietnamese food. I have had so many things on the menu and each one is to. die. for. I adore the cha gio, it instantly makes my mouth water, and their summer rolls are always so fresh, too! My favorite dish is the grilled pork rice platter. The sweet, garlicky fish sauce with the savory pork is something I could eat every single day. So not only is the food unbelievably delicious, the staff are just the best! They're so friendly and warm, always quick, always smiling. I come to Indochine at least once a week (it's in walking distance from my office) and I tell all my coworkers about it, too. read more

This place has the worst service. They don't provide hot water, fine. Not even an extra bowl? The waiter was extremely rude, he came with an attitude and even gave me the check before I said I was finished. Also the servers there all have hygiene problems. The quest for Baltimore's best banh mi continues. This time we got delivery. The grilled beef banh mi had delicious meat, well marinated and grilled. The toppings were standard and the house mayo wasn't noticeably better than the usual. Where the banh mi fell down was the use of a regular sub roll instead of a banh mi baguette for bread. It was noticeably heavier and got soggier than the correct bread would have. Still, this is much better than a place like Man vs Pho's banh mi. I would rate it in the middle of Baltimore's banh mi rankings, the bread pulls down the awesome beef. read more

I've been coming to Indochine since it opened and it used to be my favorite place for Vietnamese food in Baltimore. It's tasty and was affordable. I just went back and found that every item on the menu's price has increased by 50%. I've worked in the restaurant industry before and can totally understand the need to adjust prices. However, this is a drastic jump and the quality and ambience have remained the same. I feel like I'm being taken advantage of. I don't think the servers are making more money either as the menus now specifically state that prices don't include tip. read more

This place is very fast and reasonably priced. Best shrimp garden rolls and peanut sauce. The small lean brisket pho is plenty of food and has a delicious broth. Sometimes I like picking up a bahn mi if I'm really on the go. And I like getting the strawberry bubble tea for dessert when I'm heading out- it's not too sweet and it's the perfect treat! The Pork Banh Mi is one of my favorite things to eat in all of Baltimore--and it's only $5.50. The combination of spicy, grilled, fresh, herbal, pickled... I could eat it every day. I've been to Indochine more times than I can remember. The pho is delicious, inexpensive, and within walking distance from my apartment. I like both the beef and veggie broths, although the former is clearly more flavorful. I had the summer rolls once and I was underwhelmed. They were better at Mekong Delta, although I think the pho is better here. The service is hit or miss, but light years ahead of Mekong. Beware that there is a $15 minimum on credit cards (which is more than even a large bowl of pho) or they'll add a surcharge. Gets me every damn time! read more

This place is a funny converted rowhouse. All the decor is super mismatched but I don't really care about that stuff I've never tried the pho here (because I don't like pho anyway) but the bahn mi! I really like the bahn mi here. Other bahn mi in Baltimore are overpriced and usually not very good but the one at indochine is $5.50 and hits the spot. The bread is the appropriate kind of not-that-great roll that needs to be toasted a little bit. Since this pho place is just around the corner the BF and I were very excited to see it finally open. That's where, unfortunately, the excitement kind of ends. The pho broth was flat/dull and the tendon and tripe tough/ chewy. The worst was a greasy spring roll that had a freezer burn taste and left a horrid taste in our mouths. Yuck! Service was a bit "weird" too, almost creepy, as is the haphazard layout of the place. Might be "okay" as a quick luncheon spot but definitely not up to par with it's neighbor Minato. read more

I went with co-workers during lunchtime and ordered the Hunan Stir-Fry, which I've had before. When it came, it was inedible. The sauce was sickeningly sweet -- it honestly tasted like the chef accidentally used way too much sugar. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I brought my plate to the counter and explained that the dish was too sweet and I was unable to eat it. T he server said, "You ordered Hunan stir-fry." Yes, yes I did, I agreed. But I've had it before and it wasn't this sweet. This is inedible. The manager shrugged and said, "We only have one sauce." I kept trying to work with them. Perhaps I'd ordered something else before since the dish I had before wasn't as sweet? "We ONLY have one sauce," she said. Is there anything you can do to help cut the sweetness? I asked -- trying again to help solve this problem. "No," she said, looking around -- bored with the conversation at this point -- for an escape. Finally, I asked, "Well what do you want me to do? I can't eat this." Again, she shrugged. "Sorry." And then she went on about her business. She literally just turned her back. I've been dining out regularly for the last 25 years, and I can count on three fingers the number of times I've ever sent food back. It's just not in my nature to be *that* person. I wasn't expecting a miracle - just some acknowledgement of my concern about the food and an attempt to make it right. I got none of that. Apparently, the customer is not always right at this place. Great Pho...I was impressed and will come back. Nice service. Fresh. I had a combo large bowl for $9.99 and it was a LOT of food. lots of noodles...ample assorted meats in it including a little tripe!!! Kind of a small ma and pa type shop. Not fancy...which I love...BUT!!!! needs help with the air conditioning....the food can be hot if you spice it up. The restaurant is hot on a hot day. They told me...sit in the back next time near the AC. I am like...I will be back...and I will be sitting there. :) read more

Don't read the other Indochine reviews... That is, unless you're looking for some menu item in particular that I don't mention. I made that mistake... I skimmed through Indochine's other reviews after I was roped into a lunch meeting here, and quite frankly was dreading the whole experience. That was one of those days where I was thankful to only be an entry level employee, for if my opinions actually counted for something, we wouldn't have been going here. But we did. And we'll go back, even in the swampy Maryland summer. We started with two orders of spring rolls - one with shrimp and pork, the other veggie. Both were pretty average, but enjoyable. And then came the pho. I make no bones about it, I can't explain what makes a good Pho, technically speaking. But this Pho (the number 4 - fatty brisket) made me so, so happy. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting after reading some of the already posted reviews... But I think it was probably along the lines of some beef flavored saline solution with noodle-shaped strands of rubber. And I was so wrong, thank goodness for that. The broth was rich, flavorful, deep and NOT extraordinarily salty - not salty at all, for that matter. The meat was tender, the noodles had that perfect texture, and the condiments were all present and accounted for. The only problem was... these same coworkers that suggested Indochine had also put us on a paleo kick for a few weeks, so our stomachs were... unaccustomed... to delicious starchy things (like noodles). Were our stomachs mad at us later that day? Mhm. Was the bloating worth it? MmmmmHmmm. Indochine, we'll be back... We just may leave all of our noodles untouched (Hurray for Whole30/Paleo/collective office diets). Food: 5 - based solely on the Pho Drink: N/A - waters only, "Paleo," after all Service: 3 - standard Value: 4 - the food was pretty delicious, but the place, itself - a bit awkward. read more

After Mekong Delta closed (temporarily) but for wayy too long and I was craving pho, and then I saw this place from the bus and I had to go! I really wanted to try the taro rolls since the other reviews on Yelp have been raving about it, but they did not have taro today :(. So instead we got spring rolls, steamed shrimp dumpling, and golden crepe for appetizers, and then small and large P1 respectively (the combination pho). Spring rolls are fairly standard, the peanut sauce is creamier than I'm used to, but still delicious. Steamed shrimp dumpling reminded me A LOT of dimsum, like shumai and sorts of deliciousness. The golden crepe was a bit complicated to eat but also very very good (if only it had more of that delicious pork inside). And then the main course, pho! The small is really not small. It's basically the size of "regular" at Pho Dat Thanh in Towson. I eat a LOT and the small was enough to fill me up. The broth is really subtle (I'm not a vinegar fan, and you don't really taste the vinegar until you get to the end of your meal) and the noodles are a bit thicker than normal, but that just means more to chew right? OM NOM. They do stick together a little bit so you have to push it around or just go for it. All the appropriate toppings were standard. They do have a build-your-own-pho option but I'm not sure what the limit on toppings is haha. Service was great. Our waiter was a bit mumbly but he got all the orders right and service was really prompt. The thai iced tea is one of the best I've had (sweet and frothy, chased with the tea flavor, refreshing!). The layout is a bit weird. You walk in and face the kitchen, with a few seats and tables at the window (very close to the kitchen), or you can choose to be seated in the back, which looks more like a proper little dining area, excepting the TV (on the news channel, not sports, sorry guys) and the strange little karaoke machine?? I find nothing wrong with the decor, it's a nice blue color with these beautiful inlaid panels of art. It seems to be family owned, but they did have non-Asian host and waiters (African-American and Caucasians), so there is most definitely no language barrier. And they deliver! A pho place that accepts credit cards and delivers! Dream come true. They do state very clearly in their menu their policies, like a small fee for using credit card for bill less than $15, and that they will only split a check into 2 max. So don't get upset just because you didn't read. I will be happy to keep coming back until I get those taro rolls. read more

Indochine served great pho! I had the steak and brisket pho in beef broth and it was fantastic - it's in a great area too. However, my experience was left lacking when I was denied the privilege of using an extra plate to share my delicious dish with my dining partners. I would have preferred an extra plate with my dish. I ordered the pork spring roll vermicelli and my boyfriend ordered the large combo platter. I enjoyed my food. My boyfriend said his was alright. The broth was a little oily and he had better before. Normally, this alone wouldn't warrant a 2-star review, but the service was the main driver. This poor waitress was waiting the whole restaurant, which had every table full. Obviously with one person waiting every table, there's a lot of waiting... There should be more than one waiter/waitress. Also, weirdly, there was quite a bit of waiting for our food. I've had lots of pho in DC, Baltimore, and NYC, and Indochine is definitely one of the best. Good pho is all in the stock, and the stock here is soooo good. Sweet, salty, and flavorful, it really doesn't need any additional soy or plum sauce - sriracha is another matter. :-) And even when I get it to go, the veggies are fresh and crisp. Mmmm, so good just thinking about it. I haven't strayed too much from the pho, but I have tried their pork and chicken bahn mis and am happy to say that the flavor and crispness is still there. Also the bread is nice and soft inside and crusty outside, which makes for a very satisfying bite. I know some people comment on the atmosphere/decor, but I think it's part of the charm. The food is delicious, the tables are always clean, and the sake is cold or hot, depending on how you like it. Give it a try, you won't regret it. read more

I'm happy to see another pho shop in Baltimore! I've only been here once, and for me, Mekong Delta is still my number 1. We started with the veggie spring rolls; my partner in crime for this trip has recently become a vegetarian. Boo. The spring rolls were fine. The peanut sauce though, bleh. Way too sweet. I'm not sure whether this sauce is housemade; it tasted packaged/commercial to me. I had the combination pho with tripe and tendon, which were nicely tender. The broth was decent, but I totally missed any star anise and ginger flavoring. The vegetarian pho was pretty tasty though and a nice spoonful of chili paste boosted the flavor factor up nicely. Overall, I'm not writing this place off. I'll be back to try other items, and still have hopes of finding an item or two that I will love. read more

I think Baltimore needs a good pho joint. This is not one of them. The service is good as we were greeted promptly on a Sunday. The food is lacking in authenticity and flavor. We started with the banh mi which was ok, however traditional banh mi doesn't have a fried egg. The pho wAs bland and amount and quality of meat was lacking. I've had good pho in northern virginia and even Montgomery county. The com dia ( rice dish) was paltry at best. The meat was very sparse and it didn't come with nuoc mam. How Vietnamese is that? I wished this was better but they catered too much to the western palate. I will not be back. read more

I have been here about 5 times, I'm starting to be concerned because it ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS smells like Urine in the restaurant. It's very hard to enjoy your meal with that horrid smell creeping around your nostrils. The food is Sub-par, nothing fancy.. Broth was MEHHH The decorations are minimal. Don't expect anything fancy.. Since I've moved to Baltimore, I've been traveling to Catonsville to eat Vietnamese food. When Indochine opened, I couldn't wait to finally satisfy my Pho & other Vietnamese cravings without moving my car. Then I tried Indochine... The pho is good. And the spring rolls are good. But that's pretty much it. I tried the banh xeo (Vietnamese crepes) once but it was just steamed vegetables when traditionally you get pork, shrimp, onions and beansprouts. I might try a banh mi in the future but i'm a bit hesitant. At the end of the day, Indochine is where I'll go when I'm too lazy to drive out of the city and need a pho fix. read more

Disappointing. For two people, one crispy pork spring roll appetizer, two fatty brisket pho (one small, one large), and two thai teas provided more than enough food and came to just over $40, including tip. Not terribly expensive, but more than I've paid for the same meal anywhere. $4.50 for maybe 6 oz of thai iced tea? The spring rolls tasted odd; sort of an overcooked freezer-burnt cabbage flavor. On top of that, they were really dry. The pho was put together well - good amounts of noodles, meat, and broth. Noodles were fine, meat was fine, but the broth... no, thanks. It was like a bowl of salt. It tasted like the broth was nothing but reconstituted beef bouillon mixed with rice vinegar. The thai tea was good. It would have been really sad for a place to screw that up. Aside from the food, the service was just... strange. Not bad, really, but when the staff weren't preoccupied with their friends or the tv, I'm pretty sure they were high. I don't mind that, as long as you have enough of an attention span left to properly do your job. As excited as I was for a new pho place close by, I don't think I'll be back unless I hear of some dramatic changes. Back to Towson for pho at the Best Western. read more

New management and they raised the prices! 14 dollars for small bowel of pho and 16 dollars for large pho ! Wtf that's the most expensive pho I ever seen ! It's not even all that either ! There were zero customers there for lunch ! Even the employees were like it's a rip off lol ! With that price I rather go get a juicy steak ! Or go to nori sushi in Hamden they have good ramen noodles for lunch !! And it's half of the price!!! read more
