One of the best restaurants in Alaska! To be fair we've…read moreonly eaten in Anchorage and Seward since we've been here. And this food was incredible. The place was small but it's not busy season yet so we were seated quickly and the food was served in a reasonable amount of time. I read another review that said the place smelled like smoke, and while it did smell a little like fry oil, I feel like the smell went away and the food and company far outweighed any odd smells. We had the mussels, crab legs, salmon dip, grilled halibut, stuffed mushrooms and Cesar salad. It was all great!

**POOR SERVICE BY THE OWNER: GROUP OF ARRIVING CRUISE CUSTOMERS**…read moreWe arrived in Anchorage after a wonderful 9-day cruise and decided to stop by Basecamp Eatery with a group of 22 people around 1 p.m. The young lady serving us was very friendly and accommodating. Our group leader had previously tried to make a reservation, but the restaurant advised us simply to come in. To streamline the ordering process, we used the menu on their website to place our orders before arriving but that did not work out. Upon our arrival and after being seated, the initial service from the young lady was pleasant. However, I noticed a change when the owner arrived and began serving some of us. The first issue I encountered was a price discrepancy of about $5.00 between the website menu and the in-restaurant menu. This discrepancy made it seem as if there was one menu for tourists and another for locals. The owner was not friendly at all; he failed to inform us, as most waitstaff would, that there would be an upcharge for certain items offered as part of the meal. When he asked, "Do you want chowder or chips?" he neglected to mention that a tiny cup of chowder cost $5.00 more, which was not worth it. Instead, he acted as if it was included in our meal until you got your bill, which is deceptive. His demeanor was cold and uncaring, and it seemed he simply wanted us to leave based on how he treated us. After delivering the food, he never returned to check on us and simply handed us the bill in a detached manner. When I questioned him about the $5.00 upcharge, he pointed to the small print on the menu without saying a word. Others in our group experienced similar treatment from him. As a managing director for a major airline with over 36 years of travel experience, I have never encountered such poor and deceptive behavior as I did at Basecamp Eatery. It seemed like he truly had a problem with customers like us. I shared my experience with our bus driver and the travel company we booked with, expressing my dissatisfaction with the restaurant. I recommended that they NEVER bring customers back to this establishment. Keep in mind that our group spent over $600 at this business, and this was the treatment we received.

Due to the crush of guests, we couldn't get a table so we opted for take-out. We took a chance on the Bibimap (sp?). It was an appropriate dish for an at home meal, but without the heated bowl it comes in. On the way back from Homer we stopped again in Girdwood, this time with a reservation! Our server seated us in the romantic Garden Room", which we always opt for. This garden room is cozy, beautiful and the guests seated there have always been friendly and interesting. We all seem to treat that room like the proverbial "family" room! We started of with a tasting of a wine we wern't familiar with, and which I still can't remember its name! Our server (Blanca) was a true four star waitress. Intelligent, friendly, observant of our needs, and even those that we didn't know we needed! She took the time, even though the restaurant was packed, to clarify the menu, listen to our bragging about our 59th anniversary. She made the whole evening more joyful that we had even hoped it would be. We ordered the Filet Mignon, as per her Recommendation, and topped it with a bottle of Silver Oak. The meat, Blanca explained to us, was from a specific farm in the US. We've eaten lots of filets in lots of restaurants, but this one was right at the top of the heap. At our age this is "dangerous" as we could opt more often for the beef, than the healthier foods Jack Sprat has to offer. Dessert was the "simple" chocolate mouse. Yep, lieke everything else we ordered that night, it was an excellent topper off. We've had several meals over the years at Jack Sprats. We think, like the Silver Oak, they are getting better with age. Yep, we'lll be back, Jack!

We did get the dip bread appetizer about 15 minutes after ordering which helped. Then we waited another full hour after finishing it before our food arrived. The food was inconsistent. The chow fun noodles were undercooked. More like al dente pasta which does not work for a Chinese dish. The burgers came with fries that were cold and hard. They did fix that quickly and brought fresh fries which were much better. The wagyu burger was the biggest disappointment. The meat tasted very gamey. That is not what you expect from wagyu which should be rich and buttery. I ended up trying to cover the taste with toppings just to eat it. Not enjoyable. Our child did enjoy her grass fed beef burger and had no complaints. The atmosphere is great. Live music adds a nice touch. We also liked the shop next door and the outdoor wood fire. We like this place and wanted it to be a great experience. The food and timing just missed the mark this time. Hoping they improve because the setting is really nice.

I'd been longing to come here based on highly rated reviews, how it looks from the exterior, with lights strung around the deck, however, we always seemed to arrive on a day when they're closed. Yesterday (a Saturday) they were actually open, so it was a toss up between here, and "the other restaurant in Hope, that also has live music, outdoor seating and a stunning view" come on, you know where I mean. We opted for this as we were pulling a trailer, and the parking lot is bigger, and we didn't wanna find a camping spot then come back to eat, or I would have literally starved. Upon entering the dining room (no-one was eating inside there) it felt much more like a bar atmosphere, which put me off a little. I'd previously assumed it was a restaurant that sold alcohol, but it seems more of a bar that sells food to me now. Anyway, we chose to eat outside. Selected a table, chose what we wanted - Captain's Basket for me, Reuben for him. I asked for Coke no ice, and server told me "oh we don't have any ice anyway" which, frankly doesn't bother me as I'm English. In England, ice does not come as default. The coke can was chilled from the fridge though. Baskets came out quite quickly. There were 2 small pieces of breaded rockfish, 1 was nicely cooked, the thinner piece was a little over. Maybe 7 or 8 battered shrimp - definitely on the bouncy, chewy side, and the batter a little greasy, as though the oil hadn't quite got up to temperature, and they'd been in there a little long. The Crab Cake was divine though, I'd have eaten a whole plate of them. It was big, round, breaded, with a sauce drizzled over the top.mi love crab cakes, and this was my favourite I've had in a long while. My tartare sauce portion cup wasn't very full, and man I absolutely love the stuff, I like fries dipped in tartare, but after I'd eaten the shrimp, there was barely a smear left. Fries were good and crispy, and you know how much I love my fries. The music was far enough away that it did not interrupt our conversation, and provided a pleasant backdrop, on a sunny evening, however there was a woman sitting on the table to the right of me, who seemed to think that everyone wanted to hear the details of her life, and talked loud enough to interrupt our meal. That is obviously not the fault of Creekbend Cafe, and does not affect my rating of them. She was just annoying and obnoxiously loud. I would come back, I'd probably try something else but on the whole it was a pleasant enough meal, in a pretty setting.

This was my first introduction to the Moose's Tooth Pub & Pizzeria, who placed respectably at #24. And I must say, as far as the food, it did not disappoint. We arrived with a large party, and it was extremely busy, but we got seated right away. Due to the volume of customers, the service was a bit slow as expected because of the high demand. However, when the food arrived, it was hot, fresh, and very delicious. I ordered from the veggie pizza section, particularly the Wild Mushroom Pizza, in a 10" and thin crust option. The taste, crispiness, and flavor were in the top 2% of all pizzas I've eaten spanning over five continents. It was portioned into four total slices, but I could only eat two. Most likely, it was because I had a large hummus side order, which was extremely fulfilling but very delicious. I also had a Pipeline Stout from the tap to wash it all down. Overall, these meal combinations priced out to be about $40 before tips. The 10 inch thin crust pizza felt overpriced ($15) for its size but more than made up for it in taste. Moose's Tooth is deserving of this title of the top 25 pizza spots within the United States.

I was really disappointed in the food though - I got chips and salsa because I wasn't that hungry. The chips didn't come with any dipping sauce (for 7 bucks, it seems like it should) - that was charged separately, for an additional 3 bucks. Okay fine --- I had a craving so was willing to pay it... but then it arrived - 15 chips and the tiniest dressing-sized container of salsa... for $10?! Just nuts. The chips are supposedly "house made," but lacked any flavor (needed more seasoning/salt). Just wanted others to avoid my mistake - get something else because this isn't even half an appetizer.
