I'm going to call this "Darwin's of the Valley." Slightly less friendly, and no free popcorn. Better speakers and they have a full service kitchen with excellent steak Wednesday through Sunday. In fact, the menu is excellent. Highly recommend. Good service, and great local tap list. Pool table. Red Bull. Four different flavors. Five if you include sugar free as a flavor. Been hearing that the Palmer Bar has the best burgers in town. After tonight I concur. I don't know that there are any "bad burgers" in Palmer. Been going to the Hotel, Mat Su Brewery, Ale House for years. But kept hearing Palmer Bar. Well, let me tell you, we both had the Calison Burger. Best burger I've had by a long shot. It's a little pricey ($18) but it is HUGE! It is DELICIOUS! Comes with lettuce, tomato, pickles, jalapenos, onion rings, cheese (of your choice) and a sauce. I had to take about 3 onion rings off just so it was kind of level. It's a BIG burger. Holy Moly, you will not go away hungry or unsatisfied. Will be going there more often to feast on that bad boy! read more

The Palmer Bar has the best cheese burger in the Valley. I had a homemade hand pressed patty with a light toasted sesame bun, and high quality toppings that made it the best burger I have ever had. I can't forget to mention the tater tots, which are fried in fresh peanut oil. Highly recommend this wonderful food experience you will not be disappointed. The best Philly Cheesesteak I have ever had! The cooking area is in the middle of the bar so you can see how clean the kitchen is, and the care the cook makes in preparing your food. He even used gloves. The steak was seasoned perfectly, as were the onions and green peppers. The ingredients were grilled and seasoned in a way that added depth and character of flavor. It was juicy and tender and not, dry or tough. My husband had the Callison Burger and really enjoyed it for all of the same reasons. I was born and raised in the Palmer area but for some reason never gave it a try. The cook served our food, and checked in with us after a few minutes. He was delighted when I told him it was the best I have ever had. I was clear he took joy in making good food, and hearing customer feedback. Good job! read more

I stopped in a few weeks back with a buddy. It was late Friday afternoon and we had a few beers. I like to smoke occasionally and usually ask the local bartender if they have any singles for me to buy. The bartender said she didn't smoke nor did she "have time to ask any of the numerous men with cigarettes at the bar for me". She was not busy and she repeatedly made us wait while she flirted with some tool. The ugly attitude was reminiscent of fellow bartenders during my days tending bar in Las Vegas and NYC. Those types never lasted and usually ended up in tears after a super busy night. I have had some great experiences here in Alaska but I have to say Palmer Bar is definitely not Alaska's best! We went down to Mooseheads and hung out with Vicky -prompt and super friendly. She even offered a cigarette. read more
