After my brother saw that this place was highly recommended, we arrived and immediately told they were short staffed - only one server - and limited menu. That's where everything went downhill quickly. After observing two people just chatting away and not helping customers, two other people were seated after our party of 5. We received water for each of us, and looked over the menu. Nothing appeared good to any of us. The corker was the couple seated after us were helped by the server taking their orders. This was after a long wait. It didn't sit well with us - not even a glance from the waiter, so we left just as hungry as we had arrived. The pastries on display looked interesting but I'm not sure I would recommend them. read more

Their rhubarb kombucha was to die for. Very light and flavorful. I felt like there should've been more apple in the sandwich but it was still good! Definitely ask for bread when you come in it's so good! Very chill and cafe like. Was a bit confused with seating but it all worked out! Highly recommend will be coming back! read more

Such a good spot. Food is fresh, bread is made there. Parking is great. Breakfast here is the best but I think it ends at 11am. Mocha is delicious. I usually get the eggs Florentine but decided to try the ham and Swiss omelette. Which comes with bread. Vanilla lattes are very good as well. Not a fan of their chai lattes though. Ate here last week in the evening and service was abysmal. I got water from the counter girl who told me a waiter would be with me shortly. It was NOT shortly Older lady reddish hair waitress took my order and acted like it was a huge inconvenience to take my order. Not nice, no smile, no affect at all. My food was brought out by counter help and the waitress never checked in, or even refilled my water which was empty for more than 30 minutes. I finally asked the kid behind counter water and she was very apologetic and got me water AND my ticket so I could payout. The food was pretty good but the waitress was rude. It wasnt even busy. There were 4 tables being used. I would rather eat at Dairy Queen than spend that much to be treated like crap. read more

I've been hearing about this place for years, so I was excited when we were passing through Palmer and my husband was willing to stop at Turkey Red. Unfortunately, our experience was terrible in every way. When we arrived, we wanted to sit on the patio, but all the tables were dirty- no one offered to clean one for us when we inquired of the hostess. Despite the sign that says please wait to be seated, the very young, very unskilled hostess told us we could seat ourselves. We sat for 10 minutes before receiving menus. We were given water, but never offered drinks nor advised of the specials of the day. The staff was very rude to my husband who is not white- they never spoke directly to him and asked me if he would be eating. We should have left. Multiple staff members gave us weird looks and made us feel unwelcome. When we ordered our food, the waitress didnt even know the difference between vegetarian and vegan. I wanted to order something for my daughter to take home- and i told the waitress i would like it at the completion of our meal. I ordered a vegetarian lentil patty. A few minutes later i was told they were out. So i ordered a large take out Mediterranean salad with no tomatoes. It was the first thing to arrive! And it hand tomatoes on it, AND they had dressed it instead of putting the dressing on the side and it was TINY. Our food was not any better. My eggplant saute looked like something you'd throw together at midnight when you're tired, hungry and need to go shopping. My husband's hamburger was dry, chewy and served without condiments. The best part was the tomato- he was only able to choke down about a third of it. The entire staff appeared to be in the range of 18-21, and they were all equally unfriendly. There appeared to be no supervision over the kitchen or the dining room. It really was awful all around, especially when you factor in the ugly attitude toward natives. Unfortunate because I've been looking forward to eating here for years, but this is a HARD NO for me, not even if someone else is footing the bill. I placed a pick up for 1 item. It took over and hour to make. The staff was beyond rude. I wouldn't go here if my life depended on it.

Service is decent. Food wasn't great. Ordered the steak salad but everything listed in the ingredient list on the menu didn't show up on my plate. I got a plate of mixed veggies with steak and parmesan and oil. I couldn't even taste the balsamic vinegar. It was just oily raw veggies with unseasoned steak. The beef stew was tasty. It's more a soup than a stew, it still ate pretty good. Anthony even brought some bread and butter. I guess he recognized old folks and our need to dip stuff in our pot au feu. Mrs. E. ordered the Spanakopita with iced tea. Great fresh brewed tea but reheated Costco spinach pie. That's pretty common, however. The bistro is a warm, intimate little spot right in the downtown area. For a busy shopping Saturday after turkey day, there was a good sized crowd and still plenty of parking. We intentionally sat in the riser, on the window. You might think it crazy, but we really enjoyed just looking out on this tiny, cozy little town with literally no activity. It was in someways comforting, even totally relaxing. About the only drag was this caked on mess on the sides of the table. Even a warm towel wouldn't scrub it off. Gross. Probably should've alerted management. We just tuned it out and moved ahead. Eventually, they'll figure out that wiping the top of the table, alone, isn't enough. On our next visit I'm trying the brisket and a drink called "The Spark". Absolutely bizarre experience. I read many online recommendations for Turkey Red before we visited Alaska, and our visit here ended in regret. We finished a nice hike nearby and came in for a late lunch around 1pm. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly hostess that sat us in the elevated section with a couple menus. We perused the menus and noted the fresh salads at the tables adjacent. We decided on what we wanted, and waited for service. And waited. One table next to us finished their meal, and a young server cleaned up in a couple trips. She didn't look at us the entire time. We patiently sat with our menus down, and peered around. No other servers were around, and my SO noted that everyone working looked very young. After about 30 minutes, she said she needed to use the restroom, so we went to the front to ask about bathrooms and service. The greeter was very apologetic and said someone would be right with us, and provided directions to the restrooms. I sat back down and a server approached me - guess who? The young lady who cleaned off the table next to us and ignored us the entire time. Okay...I politely ordered the Spanikopita, Italian lunch special with side salad, and Portobello Mushroom sandwich with side of chicken and split pea soup. The SO came back and said there was a large group of workers just loitering at the bathroom. Maybe just a break time, no big deal. Our food came out reasonably fast, starting with...gyrokopita? A young man had brought the wrong dish so I let him know: "sorry, I don't think we ordered this - we ordered the spanikopita." He looked annoyed and said "oh, we ran out of that, so she probably put this order in instead." I have NEVER heard of a server taking the liberty of replacing a customer's order without first consulting them. To be fair, he offered to take it back, but I just told the poor guy that we'd just try this instead. Then our sandwiches came out, with the wrong soup - it was a cup of clam chowder instead of chicken and split pea. I didn't even bother asking if they had run out at this point, we just wanted to eat. - Gyrokopita ($10.25, they only charged us $9 for spana at least) - Very mediocre. I love phyllo, but the ground beef filling was dryer than the Sahara. The tzatziki was okay but just couldn't save it. - 1/2 Portobello Mushroom Sandwich, side of Clam Chowder ($8.75) - Pretty small sandwich but SO says it tasted fine. We both liked the clam chowder, it was full of vegetables and had an interesting spice to it. - Italian Sandwich, side salad ($14) - I was originally sold by the description: Italian on Rosemary, with Pastrami, charcuterie, provolone, balsamic vinegar, lettuce and bruschetta. How do you put charcuterie and bruschetta, completely different Italian dishes, on a sandwich? The rosemary sourdough was tasty, but so over-toasted that the roof of my mouth was raw for a couple days. The pastrami was generous, fresh, and really tasty. There was another dried meat (I'm guessing prosciutto?) that was good when it was edible, but more than half of it was a dried, unchewable tendon gristle. Someone slicing the meat was not paying attention. I literally had to stop after every bite to pull a large, inedible chunk of gristle out of my mouth. The salad was fresh and delicious, with red-spined greens that look like a fresh chard, topped with a tangy dressing. We finish eating and sit around for a while. Our waters are long finished. We fight the trend at this point, and I decide to just walk up to the counter and pay. There's no one around except for our hostess, who rings me up quickly, god bless her heart. I love the local, farm-to-table emphasis; it's a great way to help the community and help make people aware of what's regionally available. It's clear that some dishes are significantly enhanced by this aspect, and others are on the right track but need a lot of attention and care. The abysmal service is an absolute disrespect to everything else this place stands for. We should have walked out and saved ourselves the trouble. read more

We really enjoy this place but to raise your price of bread from $6 to $9 a loaf in a week was an unwelcome surprise.

This has been my favorite find while working up in Wasilla/Palmer area. I had a few meals that were catered by this restaurant, and ordered once for pick up. I had the roasted chicken with figs, it was excellent, well cooked served over toasted veggies and figs and green olives in the sauce. They always seem to have a variety of their own breads they make in house to serve with meals. I had the carrot cake for dessert, it was a bit more dense and had a buttercream frosting that was a bit different from how I have usually had carrot cake, but it was excellent. read more

My wife phoned early morning 11 March 2023 to confirm Vegan options were available for dinner that night. They confirmed many of their dishes could be modified to meet our dietary restrictions. Upon arriving at 6:00PM our server stated they had nothing Vegan on their menu and seemed like he just wanted us to leave. My wife asked to see the manager and then all of a sudden he started making suggestions on slight menu modifications. My wife's friend and I decided to just get the penne pasta with marinara. We received our pasta dishes and the noodles were way undercooked by about 3-4 minutes. This was extremely chewy and we each ate about 2 bites and decided just to box it up. We decided upon leaving the 2 pastas we're not worth taking home and left them on the table. The marinara on the pasta wasn't the right consistency. Just looked like miniature chopped up tomatoes with nothing resembling a sauce. The only bright part for me was the Vegan chocolate cake which was delicious. My wife did enjoy her portobello dish with rice. If you don't want to serve people with dietary restrictions just be up front with us and tell us you can't. We don't want to waste your time and definitely not ours. If you can't get a simple pasta dish right this begs me to question the quality of all your dishes. As others have said this is the best restaurant in Palmer, and honestly could also stand in the rankings of top restaurants in the greater Anchorage area. The menu is very well thought out, they have ample daily specials, delicious desserts and baked good. They do several things well here/ I was very impressed with our meal, and definitely can't wait to see what specials they have when I return. Service was friendly and attentive. It felt like we had a few different staff members playing different roles which seems to be their system. We never felt like we were being ignored so whatever works for them! Our entire meal besides dessert was ordered off the specials menu. We started with complimentary bread that's made in house. Their baked goods are excellent, and I'd love to see what they have to offer for breakfast. From there we had 2 appetizers. One of the specials was a scallop appetizer that was mouth watering. My only compliant is that for the price it was a fairly small portion of scallops. The baked Brie is a signature appetizer that we just had to try. I love cheese--it is a weakness/ It came with fresh baked bread that was excellent, and the berry compote was a great accompaniment to the melted Brie. Not a very complicated dish, but they execute it well at Turkey Red. For our main course I had a penne in a rose sauce with grated Parmesan, and tons of different seafood. Rockfish, side stripe shrimp & clams in every bite. My pasta was amazing. The sauce was rich and creamy, and it was a good sized portion. My husband had a rockfish entree prepared with dill cream sauce. His fish was cooked perfectly, and the dill sauce was fresh, lemony and creamy. We finished with excellent dessert that's also made in house. We left extremely full, and very impressed! If Turkey Red wasn't already on your "must eat" list get it on there ASAP!! Turkey Red and the Rockfish with the Olive Tapenade Featuring the Steamed Rice and Veggies It sounded like a band in my head. But it isn't. A couple months ago I went to Pangea and had a less than stellar experience (See my Pangea review for specifics). I ordered the rockfish and it was try and tasteless. I hesitated ordering here at Turkey Red, but I love Olive Tapenade. I'm so glad I did. Everything I have heard about rockfish was confirmed in this meal. I found myself taking smaller bites and chewing longer just to savor the flavor. Even so, the meal was gone far too soon. Everything about the night was wonderful. Great service, appetizer, drinks, and company. I highly recommend this place. It could easily be my favorite place in Palmer to eat. read more

I got the BLCT (I think that's what it's called) my mine got the Philly. My sandwich was so dry I had to ask for avacado and my mom's sandwich was even dryer. She asked for mayonnaise but it did not help. The salad served with the sandwiches was the best part. I would definitely order something different if I returned. read more

We've loved this restaurant for years but our most recent visit was somewhat disappointing. Service was slow, the order was wrong, and my wife and I had to eat at different times because of the delay in getting our complete order. Still love the menu and location, but it seems that the staff, while friendly, are not well trained. Maybe we caught some new guys? Here's hoping they get better but we might not be back for a while. This used to be a favorite date place. Before Covid, it was amazing. Some of the things they did for the community during that time was amazing also and one of the reasons we go there. However we had family out of town stay and took them here for lunch. Our server was unfriendly. Just getting our drinks took forever and she was "put out" when we needed more. We ordered the hummus and it was so bland we couldn't eat it. My daughter had spaghetti and it was cold. Our food was just really unimpressive for what it cost. We came here for breakfast and were disappointed. Service was subpar at best. I ordered an omlette, which comes with toast. When it came without toast, I inquired if I could get it. The waitress just said "no." I asked, "doesn't it come with it?" She told me it did, but she didn't have any bread sliced. Mind you, there were literally 3 tables in the restaurant, so it wasn't as if she was too busy to cut a piece of bread. I asked if she could slice some and she sighed and walked away. She came back with bread - which was good - but wasn't worth her attitude. She also looked personally affronted when I asked what was in the "Wonder Woman" cookie.
